For Tinnitus, try Astaxanthin 2 mg 1 softgel per day. This helped me until I learned that I'm allergic to it. Nevertheless, Astaxanthin can not only relax your inner ear, but it's beneficial to your eyes as well.

Astaxanthin also comes in 2 mg, 4 mg, 10 mg, and upward. I recommend starting at a lower dosage , once a day, because, like I mentioned above, I learned after just a few days that I'm allergic to Astaxanthin. However, I now take Antarctic Krill Oil , and it contains astaxanthin. Each softgel of this Krill Oil contains 200 MicroGrams of Astaxanthin, so I can still consume astaxanthin, but in a lower dosage than with pure Astaxanthin. I now use it 2 or 3 days a week, 2 or three softgels each day , and my intake of Astaxanthin is now .4-.6 mg each day I use it. My allergy doesn't affect me as it seriously did with 4mg-10mg, and I still notice benefits in my inner ear and eyesight.

B12 deficiency is associated with the conditions of , vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss. Though nerve damage can be permanent, B12 can at least stop some of its progression by helping to produce myelin to recoat the axons. I had mild hearing loss, mild tinnitus, and severe vertigo. They are now gone. My husband has familial hearing loss and moderate tinnitus. He hasn't worsened, but he hasn't noticed improvement yet after 5 mnths. of B12 supplementation. I recommend a trial of methylcobalamin, an active form of B12, between 1000 mcg. - 5000 mcg. daily, available in sublingual lozenges. My husband takes 2500 mcg. daily, and I now take 5000 mcg. daily. With these high dosages, we find that we need extra potassium in our diets, but that side effect is what I would rather tolerate than the vertigo, nerve damage, etc. Some people have also found that supplementation with zinc, CoQ10, and vitamin E have been helpful, along with a reasonable amount of B-complex.

Hi Denise..

.The reason that you have tinnitus problems is probably due to multiple factors or causes and not just one core reason.

Here is what Ted from Bangkok has to say about the causes and how to heal tinnitus: "Primarily, the traditional approach to buzzing of the ears is magnesium supplements, but I much prefer powdered form magnesium citrate or magnesium chloride 250 mg taken twice a day. The vitamin B50 is taken twice a day. And most important to reduce stickiness of the blood is the lemon and baking soda, as the simplest, albeit not too effective ways of alkalizing the brain, and will take about two weeks to do that, but the remedy is 2 tablespoons of lime (or lemon) plus 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water or 1 glass of water taken twice a day. A more effective remedy thats been proven for me anyway, conditions do vary with people, but it is 1/4 teaspoon of sodium carbonate (washing soda) plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/8 teaspoon of potasssium bicarbonate (or tripotassium citrate) in 1 glass of water taken twice a day. This one will alkalize the brain generally quickly, usually within 30 minutes and especially taken 2 hours before sleep or 1 hour, to reduce the buzzing. Alkalizing also dilates the capillary circulation of the brain too."

Source: https://ted.earthclinic.com/cures/tinnitus.html

I would also advise that you should also supplement higher-dose niacin -- at least 500 mgs once per day with meals. If you get a heavy or uncomfortable niacin "flush" then just reduce the dose by half. The niacin flush is very beneficial because, as Ted also mentions, thick blood can also contribute significantly towards tinnitus. Niacin(via the niacin "flush") will also safely act to thin the blood. I normally take 500 mgs(once a day) + All B vitamins(once a day) as a preventative now because it both relaxes me and seems to gives me energy as well.

Here are the recommended dosages again for your tinnitus:

* Magnesium Chloride....250mgs taken twice a day with meals.

* Use Ted's stronger Carbicarb remedy(the second alkalizing remedy described above) taken twice a day outside meal times.

* B50 Complex taken twice a day normally with meals

* Niacin...500mgs once a day with a meal.

Bill, What can be used if you have MG & are under doctor advice not to take magnesium as it worsens nerve/muscle response (especially for individuals who have the type that paralyzes breathing)?

Blackstrap Molasses

Hi. I have been diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer (spread to the bones). I have become anemic. Dr. said to take in more iron. I bought blackstrap molasses unsulphured. Took a tablespoon Tuesday evening, a tablespoon Wednesday morning. Noticed Wednesday afternoon I "had energy" & then realized that after a 4 block walk at a fast pace did not leave me winded and fatigued my legs (the Saturday before I became winded and fatigued after only 1 block). Went home from work, took another tablespoon, did heavy gardening until 10:00 that night. Was still feeling energized! Took the same amount of blackstrap Thursday and Friday (today).

Here is the amazing part: when I am anemic, I get tinnitus - sound in my ears. It is a pulsating sound like I can hear my blood pulsating through my veins. The more anemic I am, the louder the tinnitus. I've been through this before. Took blood transfusions and the tinnitus went away. My last treatment regimen for the cancer worked (for awhile) and as I got better from the medication, my blood got better, and the tinnitus gradually went away. Now, since taking the blackstrap (starting three days ago), each night I notice the tinnitus is lessened.

Last night it was BARELY audible and was not constant. I expect tonight it will not be there at all. (Night time is when I notice it when all is very quiet). I would bet were I to have my blood tested today, my red blood cell and platelet counts would be either normal or just about normal. OK, I am truly amazed. Is it the blackstrap? Ok, next thing to try: hydrogen peroxide. Then apple cider vinegar!

God bless you all for sharing!

My grandfather had tinnitus for many years, he was told to put drops of fresh mothers milk (breast milk) into the ringing ears for several days... it worked within a week and never recurred.

One possible reason why breast milk works against tinnitus is that it is a rich source of lauric acid, a fatty acid which is an immune system booster. Coconut oil is also rich in lauric acid and can be placed in the ear to soften wax and heal earaches. I don't know whether it is effective for treating tinnitus, though.

I wrote in a few weeks ago about my whirring right ear. I can only lay on one side without hearing it. I think my back or neck may need to be adjusted. This is my 3rd day taking the magnesium and it may be working. I've tried the peroxide and my ear is very tender on the inside. Do you have any other suggestions? I really don't want to go have a doctor dig in it if there's something i can do. I found a link from your site (i think) about chinese herbs for tinnitus and ear problems. do you recommend this? Please let me know asap. Thanks for the site!!

check to see if you clench your teeth at night. I had the same thing with my left ear. Alot of pressure like an inside earache. The doctor said it could be the jaw bone pushing up on the ear canal. Suggested I go to dentist and get plastic teeth guards to prevent me from clenching and grinding teeth at night. Also wants me to get an MRI. Going to wait and see first and do alot of praying that it goes away first. The doctor put me on steroids for a week for the imflamation, even though anti inflamitory drugs can make it worse, same as alcohol, salt and caffeine. Still have the ringing but noticed the pressure is lightening up. Hopefully the ringing will reduce but for now it's still there- not as bad as 5 days ago when it first started. I am going to try the Apple Cider Vinegar tonight! I feel for everyone here. I know what you're going through!

Chelated Magnesium

I trawled the net in search of a remedy for my sudden onset tinnitus (noise induced trauma). Reading between the lines of some medical sites I noticed that trials were being undertaken to test the efficacy of chelated magnesium and the role of beta and anti histamines to alleviate the symptoms.

Figuring I had nothing to lose, I bought some chelated magnesium and started taking the maximum recommended dose. I also took some Polarimine (old style anti-histamine which can cause drowsiness...)according to the recommended dose. Within 2 days my tinnitus symptoms improved remarkably during quiet periods. It is still loud in areas of high background noise but even that seems to be reducing somewhat. My hearing also seems to be returning to reasonable normalcy after the initial trauma. I hope this anecdote helps others.

Citronella Essential Oil

Editor's Choice

I had been suffering from tinnitus for about 2 years. I used to hear a roaring-booming noise like "ommm, ommm, ommm, ommmm" mostly in my right ear. Even stroking my right chin towards the right ear aggravated it. I thought it could be phlegm becoming lodged in my inner ear cavity because in the past during a cold or bout of a runny nose I did encounter this issue to a lesser degree and expelling the phlegm by inhaling forcefully and spitting out the phlegm brought about relief. But not anymore. My tinnitus had become chronic and I was desperate and troubled. In enclosed spaces like a restaurant with poor acoustics when family members and many other people were chatting away close by I felt "drowned" and kind of tormented, being bombarded by so much noise even while others were enjoying themselves. I reckoned it could be phlegm stubbornly lodged in the inner ear cavity caused by a runny nose for some time. In Chinese medicine, tinnitus is often traced to phlegm. Yes, so I consulted 2 TCM physicians but to no avail. I also tried other methods like stretching my earlobes, massaging them with essential oils, using a pharmaceutical nasal spray for blocked nostrils without much avail. I also drank Atractylodes decoction to fight internal dampness. That resolved the tinnitus for a time like a few months and I was elated. But the problem returned. Then one day because of sneezing and runny nose I decided to stop it with Citronella Essential Oil instead of taking Chlorpheniramine an anti-histamine pill that although could help my sneezing and runny nose had the side effect of making me drowsy.

This is what I did.

I folded a handkerchief into a 1 and a half inches width and poured a few drops of Citronella Essential Oil on it. I laid down on my bed and placed the handkerchief over my nose in contact with the oil. I breathed in and out through the handkerchief for half an hour. I felt the sting of the Citronella fumes in my sinuses, so I controlled my inhaling to prevent too much pain. But other than that there was no harm experienced by me by inhaling this oil. Anyway, after half hour of such inhalation, I experienced a discharge of watery mucus from my nostrils like having a cold. I sensed something good about it. I cleared my nose. After that my tinnitus of 2 years was gone for good! Imagine after despairing for so long and searching here and there on the Internet for a cure, I bumped into one myself. And this happened like 10 months ago and the tinnitus has never returned. I am completely cured.

Now let me try to conjecture why I got that kind of tinnitus and why the said treatment worked. I believe in the past I had not nipped my frequent runny nose in the bud by taking medicine (like anti-histamine pills which I was not aware of in those days) to suppress it but had allowed it to fester so that phlegm had collected in the inner ear. This, in turn, promoted the rise of bacteria and/or viruses of whatever kinds I cannot tell. And like the BIOFILM which some scientists have found in intestines of IBS sufferers, BIOFILM (aka mucus or phlegm in common lingo) becomes a very strong castle-like habitat of bacteria and viruses.I believe it is the same with phlegm lodged in the inner ear cavity. So when I inhaled the Citronella Essential Oil it penetrated the phlegm and effectively killed these bad bacteria and inactivated any viruses. I write this in the hope that some sufferers might benefit from this testimony. If your tinnitus is caused by a history of rhinitis (runny nose, sneezing, mucus, cough) then it is possible this method might help.

Good Luck!

I put a pea size of coconut oil in each ear ( daily or as needed) and it has DRAMATICALLY REDUCED the ringing in my ears that has been non stop for many years. PEACE

I read you can use a Q tip with a bit of hydrogen peroxide prior to putting the coconut oil in there, if that helps you....

I used Similisan Homeopathic drops for ear wax removal in the morning. In the evening, before bed, with a rubber ear syringe, I gently squirted Colloidal silver in one ear, laid on the other side for 5 minutes, then absorbed the colloidal silver with a clean wash cloth as it drained out when I sat up. Then did the same to the other ear. The next morning, I used the same treatment with just the colloidal silver but leaving it in each ear for approximately 30 minutes per ear. This has reduced the loud ringing/tinnitus approximately 90%.

Hey guys I "HAD" severe tinnitus in both my ears. I suffered a hole in my ear drum when I was 12 .Then I played hard rock in a band from 17 to 23. I changed my diet (mainly staying away from alcohol sugar and salt)Stopped playing in my band and started going to accupunture and my tinnitus has gone from a rating of a 9 out of 10 to about a 2. I am so thankful this helped for me. And im sure if I start using a supplement or Appler Cider Vinegar it will completely go away. I hope my testimonial could help someone else with a similar situation.

Hi, My mom has suffered from ear tinnitus for over 20 years. Me being a long-time yoga practicioner and instructor, I adviced her to change her food choices, as tinnitus in combination with vertigo (her case) are often a result of something called unbalanced vata dosha - one of three main governing principles in ayurveda.

I'm not sure how you all feel about alternative approach, but where conventional therapy can't help, this is your only chance - and it worked for her!

She started eating as I suggested and in one month the ringing noise was gone:

- eat warm food, moderately heavy textures, added butter and fat; preferrably salt, sour, and sweet tastes

- use foods such as: warm milk, cream, butter, warm soups, stews, hot cereals, fresh baked bread.

- vata is a cold dry dosha, therefore warm, nourishing foods such as these are good for stabilizing it

- have a good nourishing breakfast is very important (hot cereals, cream of rice or wheat, warm oatmeal etc.)

- spices: cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, ginger, cloves in moderation.

- avoid: cold meal (cold salads, iced water, raw vegetable, greens), caffeine products, bitter tastes, sweets.

If taken a holistic approach - trying some effective treatment methods as suggested above together with change of food choices, I am sure it's possible for anyone to start enjoying a true silence soon (unless the condition is associated with permanent damage of inner ear..).

DMSO

Tinnitus and DMSO:

DMSO used together with vasoactive drugs was administered by injection, and DMSO in combination with anti-inflamatory preparations was applied externally.

The treatment consisted of one daily intramuscular injection of Ipran (a Chilean drug), a preparation based on DMSO in combination with buphenine and aminoacids. The investigator was in this Chilean study was Dr.Aristides Zuniga. In addition to the injections, the external ear canal of the particular ear hearing the irritating sound was treated with 2 ml. of a medicinal spray containing DMSO and anti-inflammatory drugs described as Plus-Par (a Chilean Drug. The spray applications were made every four days during the entire period of treatment. In nine of the fifteen patients, the subjective discomfort and head noise disappeared completely after one month of treatment. In two others the noise diminished considerably in intensity but did not totally disappear. Four patients retained tinnitus but described it as changed and sporadic, especially when they were exposed to the cold in the morning. Patients who had complained of nausea and positional dizzinesss from the condition before treatment didn't have these sensations after it. They also lost their persistent insomnia, as well as headache, neurotic anguish, and ear pain.

Regarding DMSO: I think it may indeed be helpful as I experimented with it in the early stages of Tinnitus when I was desperate and before I habituated with the hiss noise. I had some liquid DMSO I used for general aches and pains on the body and since I was sticking all kinds of remedies I could think of in the ear, I just poured the straight DMSO liquid into the ear and there was instant silence. I thought I had cured it! But it did come back. I have not tried this again as knowing the DMSO is a solvent I was worried that applying things topically, I might do more damage than was already done to the inner ear.

Over time, the conditioned has lessoned and become bearable with other remedies and watching diet. However, I wanted to share that one moment of total silence might mean something, that I can try this again perhaps once or twice a week, and see if I'm helping it further. Thank you for the report.
