Have been taking Blackstrap Molasses (BSM) for one month now for heavy bleeding. Today is my first day of periods.. Half the day was ok but just saw some heavy clots again. Makes me worried. Had 3 spoons of BSM today diluted in water every 3 to 4 hrs. Do I need to try apple cider vinegar (ACV) now along with BSM? I'm a 40 yr. old woman and have 2 tiny fibroids.

Hi, While you are bleeding heavily, as a quick cure take Apple Cider Vinegar 1 tablespoon in water, say 3 to 4 times a day, best to drink thru a straw. Eventually you need to address your hormone imbalance x

Hi, After having heavy periods with clots, for quite sometime, also recently having bloated stomach. I decided to search online for remedies to reduce my bloating, molasses was one of the remedies, fortunately I remember I have a bottle at home for quite sometime. However I decided to use a teaspoon, each morning until my peroid came. What I realise with this period I have no cramps, my flow reduced. And less clotting, am feeling so happy that I don't have to be bothered by the heavy flow. I can see and feel the big difference.

Hi, With Bsm it needs to be the non sulpher organic type and most of have to take atleast 1 large tablespoon atleast 3 times a day- drink lots of water too. Another remedy which could be easier for some people is a small glass of water with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it at least 3 times a day (drink through a straw). Honestly these work and it is amazing- I think if you are not seeing results then take more- both of these work for me- I prefer the ACV at the moment and sometimes as baking soda but it works without- good luck

Nicole from Melbourne, Victoria Australia, HELLO! Sorry to hear about your issue. I have suffered tremendously with the same issue and below are few things that shifted this in me...
1. Standard Process Ovex-P (available on Amazon).
2. Fermented Cod Liver Oil several tablespoons upto 4 per day especially at beginning of period. Rest of the month you can do 1-2 tablespoons per day. Get the best quality because it makes a huge difference.
3. Eat raw foods during your period which will cut down the quantity of blood loss as well as reduce number of days. When I eat raw my period last 5 days about medium blood flow. On cooked foods, I will bleed upto 15 days with very heavy flow.
4. Additionally I use dandelion tea through the month 1 cup daily to keep liver clean.
5. Foods with probiotics like homemade kefir, kombucha, and sauerkraut (all with live bacteria) have helped tremendously. Please google how to make these cheaply at home.
6. ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) Raw with mother - 2 tablespoons in 1. 2 cup lukewarm water with raw honey 2-3 times during period (and you can continue rest of the month too) great in balancing PH levels of body and will reduce blood flow tremendously.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Good luck, Tina

Hi Nicole, if you are like me and have heavy mensturation then it is very important that you get your blood checked every couple of months for iron levels. We can deplete our stores very quickly and low iron can lead to continuous bleeding. Coffee, tea, wine, chocolate can all affect iron absorption too whereas vitamin c helps it. I am on iron tablets again but I can testify that unsulphered black strap molasses really works- I take a teaspoon of Bsm followed by a small glass of water then repeat this in the morning then again in the evening, I am sure you could take more, it really does slow down the bleeding. Bsm also contains iron but if you are very low as identified via a blood test take iron and b 50 with vit c as well. Other signs of iron deficiency are cracks in mouth and lips that dont heal and pica cravings headaches feeling exhausted, heart palpitations sometimes pale skin and pale eye lids. Good luck

Hi - I love this site! Once again, you guys rock!
I decided to give Blackstrap Molasses a try after reading all the posts and researching BSM a bit.
My periods have changed over the last couple of years. I feel like they are heavier and cramping is more noticeable. However, they are still fairly regular. I'm 37 now.
Two days into my period and right before bed, I mixed one heaping spoonful of BSM with about a quarter cup of water. I downed it but I didn't care for the taste. I tend to try out these remedies right before bed because I like to think that I am letting my body heal itself while I sleep.
Anyway, I woke up and I could tell the cramping was less severe and my energy level was up. I also noticed the flow was less heavy.
I had a second glass when I woke up, but this time I mixed a heaping spoonful with some soy milk. This was very yummy! All my cramping is gone, my energy level is up and the flow has lessened significantly.
l'm not sure if I'll continue this as a daily regimen (I do have concerns about mineral and Calcium build-up), but I will definitely add this to my arsenal of health remedies.
Thanks again, to everyone!

I had super heavy periods. I had to change my pad 3 times in 1 hour. I tried the blackstrap molasses. It worked almost immediately. Stopped the heavy bleeding. My periods use to last 12-16 days, now they last 3 days. I take a tablespoon every morning from a spoon. I chase it with a tablespoon of yogurt. When I am having a period I take it twice a day, 12 hours apart. Just curious, does anyone have an odor with their period and how do you cure that??

I purchased Organic Molasses manufactured by Wholesome Sweeteners from The Food Co-op in Cleveland(on sale $3.98/31 oz. bottle). This version is unsulphured. I have only been taking it for one week, but the first day I used it was 2 days before the start of my menses. I noticed that the flow decreased in duration from 6 days to 4 days. I am 47 years old, do not have fibroids or any other complaint other than some gray hair and ocassional stiff knees. I am in general good health. I swallow two tablespoons in the mornings straight down. I will take note of the duration of my cycle next month as well. I am not expecting to see any changes in my hair color for at least 4 months. Will keep you posted. Thanks to all who have shared their input. Peace, health, abundance & wealth to all!

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that you should look into Ted's remedy for white hair. He recommends vitamin C in alkaline form, that is, Sodium Ascorbate in crystalline powder form. I take one teaspoon in the morning and one at night. Look up Ted's entry on white hair and read how he got rid of his white hair! Thank you for your Black Strap Molasses entry! Good luck!

I haven't tried the molasses remedy yet but I found it odd that for some reason I bought some Blackstrap Molasses at the store the other day without ever reading this site! I decided to use it in my baked beans last night. I wasn't sure that I liked it but it was a taste I could probably get used to. This evening I Googled a cure to slow down menstral bleeding and came upon this site. I was immediately drawn to the blackstrap molasses feedbacks. What a coincidence that I just happen to have some. I think the body must tell us what it needs if we listen to it. For some reason I bought ginger root too. When my mother was dying from cancer she kept asking for blueberries. One of the last things we did before she got sick was make blueberry jam. I know the body sometimes craves sugar and fat and things that are not good for it but if we listen to it, it will tell us the good things it needs as well. It was too late for my mom but her body was looking for something to fight the cancer with so she craved the blueberries. I believe there is something to learn from this in preventive measures to assist the body. I am going to try this blackstrap molasses and the ginger root and I will report back. I am so glad that I found all of these testimonies. It is very encouraging. Thank you!!!

I tried blackstrap molasses (the Brer' Rabbit brand) to try and lighten and shorten my periods. I took one tablespoon daily (in the morning), dissolved it in a little warm water, and topped off with 8 oz. of milk. I actually enjoy the taste, so keeping up with it was not a problem. When my period started, I took the aforementioned concoction twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). The first thing I noticed was that I began spotting. Not a lot, but faintly at least once each week between my periods. When my period started, it was heavier than normal. What is really strange is around the second day, all flow stopped, and I believed that the blackstrap was working. Then, a whole day passed without any flow, but by the next day, my period had returned with heavy flow again. I was really hoping that blackstrap would work for me. It seems that the other posters here had almost instantaneous results.

I've read that blackstrap molasses helps with menstrual cycle. I need to knew if it will help my 13 year old. She skipped Aug & no signs for Sept. other than pinching in sides . This problem started last year. Dr gave her med that helped but side effects troubled me. Also, I cann't find BLACKSTRAP, but did find UNSULPHURED. Is it the same?

I think it's very normal for a 13 year old to skip periods. I have an older teen, and although she began menstruating at the age of 12, it was about 2 or 3 years before it became a "regular cycle." I, too, was concerned since I run just about like clockwork myself. But I did some reading on the subject, and it's very common, in fact, more normal than not. Really, I had forgotten that I, too, as a young teen didn't have a predictable cycle. Other than that, blackstrap molasses certainly shouldn't hurt your daughter, but it may not "regulate" her either-- just a growing thing, I think.

Hi Vee - What really helped my heavy (and I do mean HEAVY) flow was drinking apple cider vinegar throughout the day on the "bad" days. I put two tablespoons of ACV, a pinch (1/4 tsp) baking soda - add water and top it off with a little orange juice to taste. I drink it slowly, all day long. It really does work for me. I also have fibroids, and have had doctors offer more than once over the years to operate on me. I am so glad to have found this site, and the cures here! Best of luck to you. . . Carly

I have been taking Apple Cider Vinegar pills since May, and I didn't notice a change at all and I am almost done with the bottle of pills. I didn't like the taste of just the Apple Cider Vinegar. I guess I'll try your suggestion, and decrease the amount of the blackstrap molasses I take. I really don't have anything to lose. My condition has worsened over the years & if this doesn't work, I've already decided to go ahead & have surgery.

Chasteberry Extract, 100mg, 2capsules, 3 times per day. I started having heavy menstrual flow shortly after the birth of my first child. Mind you not, I use to flow 3 or 4 times per year which I was very happy with. I was flowing heavily with globs non stop for about 3&1/2 months wearing 6-7 overnight pads per day. I kept going to my doctor and all he would script was different hormone pill, that kept making me gain weight. I prayed a lot and God answered my prayers. I went to my local health food store and explained to a female worker my non stop bleeding menstrual problem. I asked if she can recommend something for me to take. She said, yeah a customer told me that she tried this herb and it worked for her. I was DESPERATE and I bought it, the cheapest brand available in the store (nothing fancy). The directions said to take 2 pills 2 times a day (morning & night), I added an extra dose in the afternoon & took it 3 times a day. Upon the third day of taking this herb, my period stopped completely. I was praising God with joy and excitement. So a week before I'm about to have my cycle, I would start taking it following the directions on the bottle 2 pills 2 times/day. It would lessen my flow to 3 days(non heavy flow). In my opinion you don't have to buy the standardized one because it cost a lot more. Just buy the regular one, it will do the job just fine.

To Lawana:
09/20/2007: lawana from grayson, ga writes: "I was reading the comment from Rosemary regarding the use of ibuprofen and its side effect of acid reflux. I am a 27 year old woman and I have been taking ibuprofen since I was about 15 for period cramps. I believe that you are right in that ibuprofen has something to do with my acid reflux. When I first started taking it I was younger and my body was a lot more youthful. But as I have gotten older the attack that ibuprofen has had on my body over the years has started to weaken its defenses. I am going to stop taking it but does anyone have any suggestions as what I can take for painful period cramps that won't irritate my acid reflux or cause another sympton to come up?"
Hey, if you want my opinion, and want to see what others have said too, look up the wonders of molasses on this site. It seems to be helping lots of people including myself with very painful menstral cramps. (1-2 T. full a day is what I've read.) Much as I'm sure the birth control pills would probably work, they too are a drug! They mess with the delacate hormone balance and tend to cause estrogen dominance, leading to mood and other physical problems. Not to mention, if you're like me and want more "blessings from above", that is a really bad suggestion. No offense to the person who said it, but it just may not be for everyone.

Hi Lawana- I'm 47 years old and I too have always taken pain killer for intense period cramps. I haven't tried the molasses yet but years ago I switched from Ibuprofin to plain old fashioned aspirin. It works just fine to kill the pain and I find it never bothers my stomach.

I had excruciating cramps with cold sweats (lifeless for the first two days) for 25 years, and relied on muscle relaxants and painkillers (could not remember the names). I only know that I could not use Ponstan because it stopped my flow on the same day.
Five years ago, I decided to do away with synthetic painkillers (strain the kidneys), and go for natural remedies and tried to bear up to my pain tolerant level. One massage of clove Franch oil or Tea tree oil on my lower abdomen twice a day helps about 20%.
Swedish bitters was my best natural painkiller until I ran out of supply. It's expensive and not easily available here.
I tried black molasses with either ginger powder, cinnamon powder, turmeric or a combination of all. Didn't work for me. 30ml Dom liqour (for mothers after births) every 3-4 hourly kept my body warm.
Just last September, I discovered that black ground coffee (Aik Cheong - a local brand here) by accident, which did wonders for me. [I only take coffee when I feel lethargic or unwell during travels. ] No pain, no chills except in air conditioned places and I was lively. Heavy flow for the first two days to light ones over the next two days.
I use 1 satchet to make a cup after breakfast. Then, reuse it to make another cup after lunch when I am home. Normally, I would take fish oil, nutritional yeast (Vit B) and Calcium/Magnesium tablet. For some reason, I had lots of blood clots last month. Incidentally, I started 2tbsp ground flaxseed with cereal drink for breakfast. [Ted mentioned in Cancer Diet that Calcium causes blood clots. ] Let's see what happens if I omit Calcium/Magnesium for this coming one.

I am 51 years old and for the past year I have been experiencing very heavy menstrual bleeding.February 29th I was taken to the hospital by ambulance due to how heavy the bleeding was. I was diagnosed with anemia and the ER doc did see something resembling a cauliflower growth on the cervix. I am going to be having pelvic ultrasound and probably other tests this week. During the lapse of time between that ER visit and this apppointment next week I have been out of state taking care of a sick parent and put off tests which I know is bad. I found this website when trying to figure out what I can do to get the bleeding under control until I this is diagnosed. I have been taking 1 tablespoon of unsulphured blackstrap molasses per day from the day my period ends until 10 days beofre another one is due to start. At that point 10 days before and during the period I take 1 tablespoon in the morning and 1 in the early evening. I take it straight and just drink lots of water after. I am pleased to report that the bleeding is probably half of what it was. I have had two realatively easy periods now. The only down side I can report is that my stools are slightly loose and very black by the time I have doubled that dose for 10 days. I am assuming this is from the mineral content. My stools return to normal as soon as I go back down to 1 tablespoon. I would also like to add that long before my periods became so problematic that I had become housebound for the duration I had seen eraly symptoms that there is something wrong. Three years ago I started to have night sweats. Over a period of 3 years I lost 10 pounds without trying. My body composition changed dramatically from very muscular to flacid. I went to my physician who ran tests and found nothing to be wrong. In the years to follow I was going through a very difficult time in my marriage and the stress was unbelievable. I develped a tic in my eye, I started having anxiety attacks. I have had mysterious aches and pains all over and finally my periods became very heavy. I sought help from physicains 4 times over a period of 3 years and all 3 physicians thought I looked too good to be sick and ran just a few tests which did not show any problems. They concluded that it was due to the severe stress and suggested leaving the marraige and getting professional counseling. I know my body and my intuition was telling me there is something wrong but I ignored it probably because I wanted to believe the physicians were right. Now I hope this is not cancer and strictly due to either perimenopause or fibroids. I have periods every month right on schedule every 28 days.
