Gripe Water for Babies

I visited this web two years ago in search for remedies for excessive burping and I read that gripe water works. I tried and it relieved my symptoms immediately, so thank you very much Rebecca (2007 post) for sharing your experience.I have suffered for 5 years before using gripe water, I talked to my family doctor, who recommended antacids. I tried all kinds of them with simethicone or without it but none worked.
Another thing that worked for me were probiotics, but they do not work immediately.
In fact the cause of excess burping in my case was caffeine. I used to drink 3-4 cups a day, medium or large size. After I reduced the amount of coffee to two small cups a day, one in the morning one in the midday I have no problems any more, burping is gone.
Now I have handy gripe water, probiotics which I take once a day and less coffee.
Hopefully this might help somebody out there having the burping problem.
Cheers

I found when I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I got the sulphur burps really bad (both ends) in the final month of my pregnancy. Got rid of it by taking 2 teaspoons of baking soda in a big glass of warm water twice a day kept it at bay. I burped out all the gases in the mornings & stunk out my house! By the end of the day it wasn't so smelly. By the 3rd day, it had subsided. Baking soda water works better than those off the shelf tablets that just upsets my stomach. I drink baking soda all the time now for indigestion. Give it a try, it may work for you....Cheers

I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. It's really starting to look like a low carb diet is good for heart disease, weight loss and even panic attacks!

Try to eat olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, and personally, I think butter and cream are OK, too, for fats. Avoid potatoes, grains, breads, and of course desserts with sugar. I say this after extensive reading and research, but admit I have a difficult time doing this myself, but keep trying!
The first medicine that should be used for MS and is 89% effective in stopping disease progression is low dose naltrexone. The website is www.ldninfo.org. There is a link to join a Yahoo LDN Group where the members (over 11, 000) can answer any questions you may have. It is very low cost, FDA approved and has no side effects except disturbed sleep for some for a week or two. It is taken in pill or liquid.
Best wishes for feeling better in the days ahead. Let us know how you are doing.

@Mike: 300 Grams of Honey and Sucanet a day is a lot of sugar! Diabetics and pre-diabetics should be careful with that dosage. I was eating 2 Tablespoons of raw honey every day and my blood glucose levels soared into pre-diabetic levels, so I can't imagine what eating 300 grams a day of honey plus another 300 grams of sucanet would do!

Arsieiuni: I understand. I had 0 income for 15 years. I've eaten day old donuts for breakfast in homeless shelters. I was 50 lbs. Over weight. I had stormy chaotic thoughts and uncontrollable emotional outbursts from being poisoned by toxic fumes. Folk medicine cured everything. The most important remedy is home made water kefir. Google how to make water kefir in 2 minutes or less and watch the video. Go to amazon and get the grains for $10 shipped and some organic whole dried cane juice to feed them and you. Take the sugar and raw wild honey when you are hungry. Also take 15g hawaiin spirulina, 10g non defatted dessicated liver, 10g absorbable colostrum, 10g raw whey, 30g raw organic cocoa powder, 30g black chia seeds, 10g cold pressed organic sesame oil, 20g expellar pressed coconut oil, 2 caps skate liver oil, 10 tabs icelandic kelp, 4g sun dried sea salt, and cayenne. This provides all the carbs, oils, proteins, phytochemicals, and special substances in their most bioactive state the body requires. Put the powders, salt, and cayenne in 1 gallon of water and drink 1 cup every hour. Take the powders, water, oils, and sugar or honey together at the same time. When you wake up in the middle of the night take another dose. Get 30 minutes of sun on the arms and legs around noon.

Arsieiuni, while you're eliminating things from your diet, make sure you increase your vegetable intake.

Thank you guys for your suggestsions! Mike, can you tell me where to find those things? It sounds wonderful.
I figure a lot has to do with my diet. I'm dirt poor but I still struggle to have a good diet as much as possible. Which isn't as much as I'd like. Also since I'm the one with MS and other debilitating conditions and also the cook in the house it's rough because some days I don't have the energy or ability to cook so we just eat frozen dinners or canned food. I hate that, but I don't always have it in me.
My current thought has been to avoid too much protein in one meal (as my food diary would suggest that these started after a huge protein meal and there was also a large protein input last time I had them) and I'm starting to consider a gluten-free diet to see if it helps with my overall digestion and health. I'm very overweight and have not been able to lose more than a few pounds here or there for years despite much trying.
Truthfully, I'm a mess right now. I had a major panic attack again last night. I'm tired of feeling scared and like I'm going to die any moment. I'm tired of feeling terrible. I want to be healthy. I'm ready to make major changes for that. I just hope I can afford it... I will prioritize it, but there is still an ultimate limit to how much money I have to spend on getting healthier food no matter how high it is on my priorities. :/

Hi Arsieiuni,
Activated charcoal powder may be helpful for when you have this problem. You can take 1 teaspoon of charcoal in 6 oz. Of water when this occurs. Charcoal helps with gas and odor and many different digestive difficulties. You can try taking this before meals or after meals or twice as day or as needed. You may need to experiment around to find what helps you the best. If you prefer, you can take 4 charcoal capsules or tablets with a glass of water. Charcoal does cause the stool to turn black and can cause constipation if you do not drink enough water. Do not take within two hours of medication as it will adsorb the medication.
Raw Unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar may be a good preventative or even a cure. If you add 1 teaspoon (or up to 1 Tablespoon if it agrees with you) of this to a glass of water and drink it when you have syptoms, it may help, or you can drink the vinegar drink a few times a day.
Liquid Chlorophyll may also help as it helps to deodorize. It will also help wit your anemia. You can take 2 teaspoons of this twice a day.
A cup of warm or room temperature peppermint tea may help an acute cause of this. Peppermint helps with gas.
I agree with Mike that you will want to look at your diet. You will want to make sure you are getting good nutrition and avoiding the foods that aggravate your condition. It may help to keep a food diary to see what is aggravating you. You may find many health problems improve as you adjust your diet.
I hope you get relief soon. Please keep us posted on how you are doing!

Arsieiuni: I was so bad at one point that even my numerous diseases had numerous diseases. I spent 6 years experimenting with a variety of herbal remedies and folk medicines. They cured everything except fatigue. I always felt like a donkey in one of those 19th century miner movies struggling up a steep slope with a heavy burden. Then I began to watch raw food videos. There were a couple of 70 plus women who had more energy than I did. I wanted to be like that. I went to the natural grocery store and bought organic produce, grass fed hamburger, and pastured eggs. This was not convenient and cost too much. Then I discovered concentrates. Every day I take 300g raw honey, 300g raw organic sucanet, 100g raw superfood powders, and 40g of various oils. I always have plenty of energy even after walking 10 miles a day. I feel like a fun loving teenager who plays all the time.

I need a cure for sulfur burps! This is driving me crazy. It's sick and awful and I can't stand it anymore. It comes up randomly but lasts anywhere from a few hours to a couple days. The burps are awful. They taste of rotten egg or more like a fart. It's so gross it makes me sick and I can't eat. My stomach usually feels really sour while it happens.
My situation:
This year has been really rough on me medically. I have a long list of new conditions that all started getting significantly worse after a storm hit my house and my PTSD was made many times worse. My doc started me on Wellbutrin 150mg 1/day then changed it to 2/day. I was taking ferrous sulphate 3/day for anemia but have slowly stopped taking them then stopped altogether because initially, I thought that was the cause of this. It's not. I am still having the burps after weeks since the iron pills.
My current meds are 150mg Wellbutrin 2/day, attarax 50mg 3/day and cetirizine daily but I've taken that one for years with no trouble.
I am beginning to suspect the Wellbutrin may be causing it. But I am also without a gall bladder and have read that this could be related.
Help please! This is making me so ill.
Baking soda in water doesn't always get rid of it, only sometimes. Alka seltzer helped once but not every time. I've tried drinking oil (as a laxative) to move my system so it might go away, and that doesn't work. I am not constipated or dehydrated that I can tell. Just this awful boiling feeling in my gut and sulfur burps. (I feel it just bubbling in there like the gas is moving or something).
Please please help.

I had been burping every other minute for the past two days and it was driving me crazy (not to mention how embarrassing is) and then I read Rebecca's post from 2007... Had to go to three different drug stores but I found gripe water, took two tablespoons as indicated on the box and have not burned since... This is miracle water!!

I was sick and lethargic from my freshman to junior year of college and had these rotten egg burps. After much of my own research and NO help from doctors who diagnosed me with everything from depression to ibs to stress, I realized that I had all the classic signs, plus more of food intolerance. Particularly gluten and dairy intolerance. I started a gluten free diet and have never felt better. I lost weight, have energy, have rid myself of depression and anxiety and best of all, no more rotten egg burps. Many time the tests come up wrong... I think the best test is to cut out all sources of gluten or dairy for a week and see how you feel. You will go through a craving and withdrawl period because both gluten and dairy contain sedative opiod molecules (that's why you feel so content after eating them!) I think the rotten egg burps happen because your digestive tract has a hard time breaking them down, and ultimately that food just sits there. For me, after I realized I was intolerant, it was plain as day. I took a hard honest look at my diet and realized that more than half of it was comprised of gluten or dairy containing products. Toast or cereal with milk for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, pasta for dinner. Not to mention all of the sneaky places it hides (soy sauce, anyone?) American culture leads us to believe that we need more calcium and more whole grains (from these two sources) when in fact, they fortify these foods with vitamins wheat and dairy are coating and destroying your villi, making you unable to absorb any nutrients! They just pass right through!! And don't think that just because you aren't Celiac that you are immune to the effects of these. We've been lead to believe by doctors that so many bodily functions are "normal" when in fact they are a sure sign that your body doesn't like what you are putting into it. Gas and bloating are not normal, nor is brain fog, or extreme tiredness after a meal, nor is just peeing out your vitamins (among many other symptoms that can be cured by going gfree and dairy free). During the healing process, it is very important to supplement nutrients. But until you rid your body of these sticky, inflaming proteins of destruction, you will not be absorbing much.
I hope this has made sense and I hope all of you who are experiencing what I experienced and have been cured of (by my own doing) are looking for. The gluten free diet is definitely a learning curve but once you get over it you will be so much happier. I would not give anything to go back to the way I used to feel for a piece of bread or a pastry or pasta. There are amazing resources for going gluten free out there!

I read years ago that burping and indigestion can be caused by insufficient stomach acid. I had always suffered with chronic burping after eating ANYthing! It was very embarrassing. The article suggested eating a small amount of fresh pineapple before eating, preferably 15-20 minutes before meals because FRESH pineapple has the enzyme bromelain which breaks down food for you. It works beautifully! I keep a fresh pineapple cut in the refrig and eat 1 or 2 small pieces before meals. I never burp anymore unless I am away from fresh pineapple.

I had a horrible, embarrasing smelly belch! It only happened about twice a week, but it smelled like sulpher,ie: rotton eggs! I checked the internet for what horrid diseaes I may have and found a recommendation for coconut oil. Two meals of scrambled eggs cooked in coconut oil cured me! Permanently! For the last 6 years I only use coconut or olive oil for cooking, not more "smelly burping" ever!
