While treatment of angina and hepatitis remain the most common clinical applications of salvia in modern Chinese clinical practice, the herb has been shown to have other valuable applications, based on its effects on microcirculation.

Concerning the pain on left side/ chest to left armpit. Of course this may very well be the heart. Don't take chances. Go to ER now.
Seriously, don't take a chance. You need EKG ... could be critical any time.
I don't mean to alarm you but really consider getting assurances this is not a heart issue.
I had an employee in my office suddenly develop tacky skin and became a bit disoriented. In thirty minutes we got him to ER and determined he was having a heart attack...So....the point is, take no chances.

After eliminating digestive issues I agreed that his chest pain sounded like angina. So my suggestion was to immediately get on the fllowing suppliments:
400 iu daily of natural vitamin E. Drug stores only carry synthetic E, so go to a health food store and make sure by discussion with the clerk that you are getting good quality natural D-alpha tocopherol. It cannot say "DL-alpha"... the L means it is synthethic.
- 500 mg of magnesium daily
- 500 mg of potassium daily
- 500 mg of the herb Hawthorne daily
- 500 mg of Co Q 10 daily
- 1, 000 mg of Vitamin C, in a non acid form daily
- 1, 000 mg of a good fish oil (taken with meals) daily
I warned him that any hard workout where he was breathing hard could easily kill him... That he was severly depressed in oxygen to the heart and possibly blocked in his arteries in the heart. I emphatically warned him that he was a time bomb. And not to do activities that made him out of breath... Cardio exercise for at least four months. Only after four months could he gradually do activities that caused him to be out of breath. Every month I'd check to make sure he had not run out of nutrients. After 4 months I suggested he up his E to 600 daily.
He did. His wife reported to me after he had been on the program for five months that the transformation was amazing. A year before he had begun coming home and plopping down on his recliner and sleeping after supper whereas throughout their marriage his energy was usually boundless. But now, she reported he had energy as before.
It has now been ten months. No more chest pain. Energy back to normal. He is doing great.
The combo is really important. Some of the items work synergestically so all are better than one or two.
I have personally been on this formula for nearly thirty years. I have 108/78 BP. I take no prescription drugs. I use colloidal silver to ward off infections. Also I do consume other helpful nutrients for the heart such as arginine in large quantities which is an addition in the past five years. And the remarkable Calcium AEP. Go on line and google Calcium AEP and find a report from "Nutritional Review. " AEP (not just any calcium) accomplishes about 20 different actions, many on the cellular level.
I am 63 years old. Have never been in a hospital as a patient. I'm not a good natural foods eater. I do eat sugar deserts. I don't exercise enough and am overweight but one thing I do right, even with my eating "sins" is take a lot of nutritional suppliments.
My new year's resolution: More exercise; less sugar; more jucing. By the way on exercise, I am into the idea of less is more. When I work out it is on an eliptical and I make sure I am breathing to the point that I could not have a conversation with the person next to me. That level for 10 minutes, then the backwards movement for one minute getting other leg muscles, then back to normal for two minutes; then I end with a sprint for 30 seconds. Then three minutes on the stair master. I want to see my heart rate hit the 170 level. Then on my way home I check my Blood Pressure at a local pharmacy (the only time they ever see me) and make sure... Even after a brisk cardio hit, I'm normal. My theory about that workout is that it pressures the leg muscles as well as pressing the heart to remind it that it is working for a young guy, not an old man. And the exercise pushes the lungs to make sure no atrophy is taking place. If I do live to be 85, I want to have mobility and capacity to participate in activities such as hiking etc. I can positively feel the difference with a mere once a week workout. I would like to add one or at most two more days a week but in the past... Years ago I could not really feel the qualitative difference with a four workout week versus a once a week but intensive cardio workout. I'd love some empirical info on longevity and heavy workout routine but my google searches have not really provided me with strong evidence that that amount of exercise in double blind studies confirms the theory that intense (five times weekly) workouts actually help with longevity. I have seen studies with rats relative to weight issues. That the leaner animals lived longer than fat ones. That is not the exercise question. Some one direct me to a definative study please. If I'm going to torture myself by intense exercise five days a week I'd love to really know that it is helping achieve more than the weight issue. I have seen theories that robust exercise on a heavy weekly schedule can wear out the "parts. " So am I right that less is more?

I've read studies where it appeared synthetic vitamin e actually had a negative impact on the human body. Unfortunately many studies do not tell which form of vitamin e is used and this probably helps explain the discrepancies and contradictions associated with vitamin e studies. One study using a specific dose will have a positive effect and then a similar study also using the same dose will have no effect or a negative effect.

My father's angina went away after using this in two months... Completely. He'd had triple bypass but still suffered from angina after the surgery. I got him on the natural E and the angina went away. Also after ten years his bypasses were still clean, which amazed the heart doctor who was certain that after ten years, they would be closed which is the norm. Of interest, another five years after that (15 years after the triple) he began having some issues so again they looked inside and some clotting had begun. Not even a stint was necessary at the time but they warned him it was coming. I then checked to see what kind of E he had been using and found he'd quit getting the E at the health food store and started buying it a a discount drug store... He had started using synthetic E a year earlier. I got him off the synthetic and back onto the natural. Never another heart problem until his death ten years later... 25 years after his heart surgery with no stints or other heart issues. He did not die of heart related issues.

So where exactly do u get a "speaker magnet" (yeah, I'm a girl) and should I ask where u put this magnet.
Also thank u for the wealth of info... I'm trying the hawthorn, vit c, Magnesium and potassium. Lets see how that works for now... Take care. : )
Supplements Causing Chest Pain
First I use Magnet Therapy occasionally for maintenance. I use a speaker magnet as it gets down deep into the heart muscle, 1 hr is good maybe once mo. Supplements include: Hawthorn, Ginger/Cayenne, Ginkgo, CoQ10 or Ubiquinol, Carnitine, Coenzyme 1 (NADH), Magnesium.
Consider other detox methods along w/ Oil Pulling as toxicity is very likely. Infections can stress kidneys and Heart if they enter the bloodstream. I had to take 1gm Vit-C before and after O.P. As I had too much toxins released into blood; am down to 500mg now. Try some antibiotic herbs like Neem, Echinacea/Goldenseal, Olive Leaf Extract, Grapefruitseed Extract. Zinc is critical for immunity (take with Vit-A, also works w/ Vit-E)
Use the best form of Vit-E you can afford like Full Spectrum Mixed Tocopherols and be sure to take at least 200 mcs of Selenium plus the CoQ10; these three together are a powerhouse lipid antioxidant and heart protector.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I've noticed whenever I take any sort of vitamins with oils, like a very lowdose Vit. E or Flaxseed oil or Cod liver oil, (liquid) or even oil pulling, I get severe chest pains around the region of my heart, ( I've written to u before about the OP and chest pains) I just never put it together, that most or all oils cause this. Is there a way to strengthen my heart muscles, without taking these oils? Or would u happen to know why this is happening, what is causing this? When I look back I realize that I've been taking vit. E since I was a teenage off and on, now I'm in my late 30's and I still can't take these much needed beneficial oils. I do have a mitral valve prolapse, which was diagnosed about 10 yrs ago..... Thank u.. : )

Hate to tell you Doctors, but this man died at a good young age of 96. He was baking bread himself till he died. He outlived his wife who was in good health. Don't see too many old guys in his shape. He was also a vegetarian.

I took the nitrogen pills for years, even after my by pass surgery, which turned to be a waste of time and money. It also put my like in danger. Someone told me to try Tabasco sauce to relieve the pain, and I did. It worked, the pain went away. So now when the pain starts, I put a little sauce under my tongue. This has been going on for over ten years. I am very satisfied with this remedy. Respectfully submitted.

That's fun that you have a gift certificate to Pure Food. They have pics of the patio in their raw books and on their site and it looks great! One day I'll get to go there. I have used their books too and love them. When I first got one of their books I was so excited and enthusiastic about what I was discovering that I wrote Sarma Mengailis, the owner and was thrilled to see that she wrote me back a really great email. She's very funny.
As for wheatgrass, no I don't grow it because my juicer won't do wheatgrass. I do a lot of sprouting though because of Brian Clement's advice. Right now I'm sprouting quinoa and it's delicious! It's my new favorite. Also, I haven't purchased anything from his site. Since you live in NYC you'll understand this- we can find anything here in LA and reasonably-priced as well. So for instance, I recommended Ultimate brand because it is high quality and reasonable but I can find it in our local health food stores for the same price pretty much. Often, I'm the kind of person who wants it, and wants it now. Donna Gates has amazing products products on her site but I can find them in our health food stores which I'm sure could be hard to find in lots of parts of the country. If you haven't listened to her or gone on her site, that's a must if all of this interests you. She highly recommends quinoa.
I know what you mean about finding kindred spirits. We now have a monthly raw food fest here in LA and the place is packed with them! I have found a couple of them here on EC and we now email each other on a regular basis sharing ideas and encouragement. It's been fantastic.
One thing I want to add in regards to wheatgrass and Brian's site. One of my "email pals" went to his site so excited after I sent her links to all his video. She immediately ordered the hand-cranked wheatgrass juicer and is growing her own wheatgrass successfully. Anyway, she had me howling because of her description of her husband and herself juicing with this thing. She said it takes her 20 minutes to get the smallest amount of juice and she's in a full sweat and completely worked out by the time shes's done. At first I was envious about her getting a wheatgrass juicer since I go buy a shot every couple days but her response to me was, "Somehow I think paying for your wheatgrass juice is worth it after this!"
I wish you the best on this journey! Lisa

It does sound like we are on the same track. I have been to a few raw food restaurants in the city and have a gift certificate to Pure Food, which my son and daughter in law gave me for Christmas. I'm waiting to use it until the weather gets nicer because I'd like to sit in their outdoor garden. I'll let you know how it is but - my daughter in law is also very interested in raw foods and she has prepared many dishes from their cookbook - and she raves.
Thanks for the info on the superfoods - I'll start investigating. It's fun to read the postings of so many kindred spirits.
Oh - I have another question for you. Do you grow wheatgrass? I know you are interested in Brian Clement - if so, do you purchase supplies from his website? Thanks - Lee

I'm so glad you took the time to watch David Wolfe- he is a very informed person with cutting edge info and close to many of the pioneers of changing the way we see food and how it can change our body/life. I try not to create any rules/laws/isms for myself as I've done that in the past in my life. This time I told myself I would totally tune into my body and listen. I know how it can be difficult as so many people live differently and we want to be social. I have to say the holidays were truly a challenge. Sometimes, we had 3 different meals on the table! I "chose" to eat a small piece of turkey on Thanksgiving but honestly I found I didn't really want that. At Christmas, I ate all the veggies and had a very small piece of prime rib and again did not find it that appealing.
Since the holidays, we have mostly eaten raw and since we're here in LA there are plenty of fantastic raw restaurants to enjoy. We have tried some of our favorite old standby restaurants that we used to frequent but, since changing our eating habits/ lifestyles neither my husband or I felt they were very good anymore and let them go. We find the raw foods more vibrant, you feel very alive and energized rather than that heavy feeling after eating a "gourmet meal". And let me tell you, we were quite gourmet in our cooking having spent a lot of time studying all the top chefs and their recipes! So, it was a radical change for us but one we now welcome because the benefits of how we feel are so different and much improved for both of us. And yes, my conclusion is eat as much raw as possible and maybe you can't do it for a bit- don't beat yourself up about it! Just start again. We juice every morning and that really charges us up. BTW, you are in one of my all time favorite cities. I lived there in the 70's and love visiting there! Are you aware that there are some amazing raw food restaurants there and have you tried any? Pure Food and Wine is highly praised! If you try it, let me know what you think!
As for superfoods, check out the company Ultimate. They are very reasonably priced with very high quality products. Check them out. You may be able to find them in your Whole Foods there in NYC. We have them in ours but a limited choice. Also, rawfoodworld.com has a lot of very good products on their site and the owner, Matt Monarch is a very informed and critical guy. Hope this info helps.
Peace, Lisa

I just watched the You Tube videos of David Wolfe. Wow. I agree - most informative. It's kind of an interesting dilemma. There is so much information out there and I sometimes find it difficult to decide which path to take (and still have a somewhat "normal" life) without totally changing my lifestyle, social life, family dining, etc. The whole subject intrigues me and I have been studying for years - yet I must admit that I still enjoy a great meal in a great restaurant (not entirely raw.) I've decided that incorporating as much raw food as possible is still the best way to go - even if it is not perfection. Have you found any good sources of superfoods? Thanks so much for all of your helpful comments. Lee

L-lycine - 1000 mg -2 in the am and 2 in the pm
L-Proline - 500 mg -2 in the am and 2 in the pm
Vitamin C - 1000 mg -non buffered -2 in the am and 2 in the pm (must drink lots of water with this or take Cal Mag to combat possible kidney stones)

Yesterday he ran 2 miles straight, we take 2 martial arts, we have hiked 11 miles at one time, he has NO pain whatsoever and just past a EKG with flying colors. We keep on a maintenance program but it is much less than above. Definately SEE YOUR DOCTOR, but I just wanted everybody to know that this worked for us.
