Tonic Water

I had an annoying upper eyelid twitch for 3 weeks. I read on here to try tonic water. I can say it definitely worked for me! While it never stopped it completely, after drinking a glass, it would give me reprieve for a few hours and then when I felt the twitch, I would drink more. I drank a litre a day on and off for 2 weeks and then dropped it back and then I woke up one day and it stopped. While I don't know if the tonic water cured the twitch, it will definitely stop the twitch for a certain amount of time, which really helped my anxiety as the twitch was really impacting my daily life. I would definitely try this miracle drink and go for the diet version (less sugar).
Potassium

Next time, try cream of tartar. It is a natural form of potassium - 1/4 of a teaspoon twice a day 😄😄👍
Lower Calcium Intake

I had an annoying eye twitch for months. Tried supplementing with Magnesium (tablets and transdermal-lotion) and increasing my potassium too, neither seemed to help. Finally I gave up, but recently realized the twitch was gone. I've recently gone low-carb and have cut out all of my daily glasses of milk (still eat plenty of cheese though! ) I think that for me, I had an overabundance of calcium caused by all the milk I drank, and supplementing with magnesium & potassium still couldn't bring it into the proper ratio. So my suggestion is to try cutting DOWN on your calcium if you tend to ingest alot, like I did.

OMG! I had an annoying eye twitch for three or four weeks and read about the tonic water. I had one small bottle one night and it was way better the next day. Had a second small bottle the next night and it is completely gone today. Thank you for the tip!

My sister-in-law suggested plain water for the twitching of my eyes. Apparently it comes from dehydration. Two days later (after a regimen of a liter a day), my twitching stopped, not to have returned. My last episode of eye twitches was five years ago.

Rapid eye twitch in left eye for 2 days.
Further to this 2007 suggestion of tonic water. I went looking for a tonic water (shudder) without sugar or corn syrup. Even the high priced one had sugar. And was almost $4 for one lousy soda.
It was recommended to me to try JUST Quinine which is the ingredient in tonic water that the OP was talking about. A supplement called Leg Cramps with Quinine was $23 for 100 caplets. I bought those to try and dissolved 3 immediately under my tongue.
I don't know how it works, but it worked. And in record time. I have also been overdoing the work outs the past week and my persistant leg cramps went away as well. I am amazed.
Doing a search for Quinine online made me a little uneasy as there are side effects for some. I will report back if the twitches return. But in a nutshell. Quinine stopped the eye twitch cold!
Thank you so much for that suggestion of tonic water/quinine.
I was ready to stick a lit cigarette in my ear (above) lol, Sam

Junebug,
A lack of potassium and or magnesium can cause eye twitching and muscle spasms. Figs are a good source of potassium.

My left upper eyelid twitched for 6 weeks and I thought I was going to lose my mind until I found this thread about people having great results with tonic water. I went out and bought several liters and drank 8-16 oz a day for a week. The twitch is 90% better! Amazed and thankful!

Castor oil cured my eye twitch.
I applied a drop of castor oil in my eye before bed. It itched a little at the site of the twitching. It took about 3-4 days before the twitching stopped completely.
Calcium and Magnesium Supplements

Just a note re: the comments about magnesium/calcium and potassium for eyelid twitching.
Magnesium and calcium are regulated by a cellular "pump" and your body needs them at a 2:1 (calcium to magnesium) ratio. If you over-supplement with one or the other, your body will try to correct the imbalance (calcium is also related to iron absorption; if you take too much calcium you can give yourself anemia!). So those reporting cures are perhaps taking them in the correct ratio, or they are taking in adequate amounts of one or the other in their diet to offset the supplement.
Potassium levels are also regulated by a cellular pump that takes in potassium and removes sodium (or vice versa). Magnesium deficiency can affect the function of this pump. That's why only taking potassium may not help with eyelid twitch or other muscle spasm problems.

I had an eye twitch that would happen many times throughout the day for about a month. I went to the eye doctor and he also suggested tonic water with quinine. I went right to the store and bought a bottle. Had only a few sips that night, as the tonic water is very bitter. The next day the twitch was completely gone. It was amazing!

I was suffering from an eye twitch on the upper lid of my right eye for over a year. I tried magnesium supplements and eliminating caffeine, without any effect. Then I started snacking on figs to curb my desire for sugar. Within probably less than a week of eating about a cup of dried figs a day, I noticed my eye twitch was gone and I was sleeping much better. I missed a day of eating the figs and my trouble sleeping returned that night, but my twitch did not return. I have since continued eating the figs daily. It's been about a month now that I have been eating this way and still no return of the twitch. I imagine it's the magnesium content of the figs but also perhaps something in the balance of that with other minerals in them because mag supplements and other magnesium-rich foods that I tried like hemp and pumpkin seeds had no effect.

Suzie, you could try supplementing with magnesium oil - transdermal is probably best. Magnesium calms muscles.

I have sat where you sit and still have my battles but between Earth Clinic and Dr. Batmanghelidj information on salt and water ratios (because he believed histamine was a dehydration signal from the body), I have overcome many things, you may also need a bit of kefir, if you use it start on low dose of 2 TBSP and work your way up. Blessing and good health to you. Love, Charity

Coconut water is a great source of potassium and it contains less carbs than a banana.

I've had a persistent eye twitch in my right eye for about 3 months now that's driving me crazy! Yesterday, I drank a glass of tonic water. I was going to have a gin and tonic, but I didn't want to be buzzed, so I just had a glass of tonic water and noticed that night (and this morning) the twitch had dramatically stopped by about 80%. I took a bottle of tonic water with me to work and have drank about about 16oz and the twitching has almost stopped completely. I have some of that powdered calcium/magnesium stuff at home. Might give that a try, but it seems like tonic water is the magic bullet.

I tried the tonic water after reading these posts and experiencing over two weeks of constant twitching in my right eye. My condition improved so much with just under a liter of tonic water in 24 hours that I almost forgot to write in to thank you for the suggestion. I am grateful for a simple and effective remedy, and for the generosity of the poster to share the info. (also glad to hear cigarettes have a potentially useful purpose, and that I didn't have to go that route).

YES! Magnesium works for Eye Twitches! Magnesium citrate is the best magnesium, the stuff from the pharmacy does not work well.

The tonic water works! I had an eye twitch for about 1 1 /2 weeks. I drank around 3 oz. of tonic water (nasty stuff! ) and about 1-2 hours later my eye started watering. It twitched just a few times more throughout the night and then felt dry and itchy. I put on a brewed tea bag for about 20 minutes and woke up good as new the next morning! It has not returned since (about 2 weeks age).
