Dear Zubda,

I agree with Mmsg that hydrogen peroxide may be the best thing to try.

There is a lot on this site by Bill Munroe about hydrogen peroxide inhalation therapy.

If you would be able to get a nebulizer (the kind that people with asthma use) you can dilute hydrogen peroxide to a 1% solution and your mother can use that in the medicine cup of the nebulizer. She could use 2 or 3 ml of 1% hydrogen peroxide (you can get 3% hydrogen peroxide in the store and mix it 1 part peroxide with 2 parts water to get your 1% hydrogen peroxide solution.) She would then breathe with the nebulizer 3-4 times a day. The first time she should try it for just 15 seconds or so and then work up from there. My son used this and it made him cough a little bit but was so helpful for him.

If nebulizing the hydrogen peroxide does not suit your mother, consider nebulizing Colloidal Silver, the same way. 100ppm. Or you could try one of these one week and one the next and keep alternating. But don't mix the two. We have found nebulizing colloidal silver to be excellent for lung problems.

Comfrey and Mullein tea would also be excellent to try. Both are very good for the respiratory system. You can add peppermint for flavor. So, you would mix equal parts of comfrey, mullein and peppermint leaves and store it in a jar. Put 2 Tablespoons of the mix into another jar and pour 3 cups of boiling water over it and let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain out the leaves with a coffee filter. (Don't use a mesh strainer or you won't get all of the mullein hairs out and they can be irritating.) She should drink 3 cups a day. It can be sweetened with honey.

1, 000mg of vitamin C, three times a day would be good.

1 teaspoon of turmeric (or 4 capsules) would be another great supplement to take daily.

2 teaspoons of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar an 2 teaspoons of honey in a glass of water twice a day would also be very good.

I would only add one of these things every few days so you can monitor any reactions and make sure each one of these suits her. And I guess it will depend on what you can find where you live.

Dairy products, excepting perhaps kefir, can be hard on the lungs because they are mucous forming. It might be best to limit these if possible.

I am very hopeful that some of these things will be helpful to your mother.

Please let us know how it goes.

I was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) in 2009 and have flared episodes of coughing and phlegm and shortness of breath. I found this website and I am interested in this Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide. Can you please give more info on how this works? Thank you.

Dear Maria,

I would definitely try the hydrogen peroxide for the ILD. I am not sure if you are asking why it works or how to do it.... I would encourage you to keep reading posts on the how to part and hopefully someone else will share why it works. But, do try it. I have been meaning to post and share that I have recently started Hydrogen Peroxide inhalation therapy for my daughter who has asthma. It IS helping her. But I am trying something else with her that is helping also, maybe more. I wish I had known of these things a few years ago when my elderly father in law had ILD. At that time I felt so helpless and didn't know what to do, but now I am finding many things that help with lung problems and wish I had been able to help my father in law.

For my daugther, I am using a nebulizing diffuser (it was not cheap- maybe $70. But so worth it! It diffuses essential oils into the air so she can breath them. It diffuses without heat or water, so it is the pure oils. ) After weeks of being up with her several times a night (before the diffuser), she is finally sleeping all night and doing so well. We bought an essential oil blend that is called lung healing from heritage essential oils. We diffuse it 15 minutes out of every hour from 11pm to 7 am.

Keep reading earth clinic for other ideas on diet and such that may help your health.

And please keep us posted on what helps you. I was not able to find information on natural cures or helps for interstitial lung disease a few years ago. God bless you!

Dear ~mama to many~

My mother was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) last year. Doctors started her on steroids but that didn't seem to work. Now she's taking homeopathic medicine only but that too is not very effective. Can you please share more information about the natural remedies or anything that may help her? Please.

Zubda, I'm not the famous Mama to Many here on EC, but just wanted to mention the cheapest remedy to try first: have her breathe VERY watered down Hydrogen Peroxide. The simplest way is to squirt a little into a humidifier or similar machine, near her bed.

I have the same problem. Is there anything that can help with the coughing, shortness of breath and dealing with so much mucus?

Deena,

Try Iodine.

Jim Crow's Lugol's 2% solution on Amazon.com

Selenium 200 mcg. to 400 mcg. a day,

4 drops on 8 ounces of water a day

as daily dose = 10mg. iodine/iodide. Maintenance dose.

Therapeutic dose can be 180 mg. to 800 mg. for once a day for two days to kill any respiratory disease. Expect to expectorate!

Dear Liz,

The diffuser for essential oils diffuses into the air. It is not the same as what you use to get medicine directly into the lungs. Essential oils should not be diffused directly into the lungs. But it sounds like you may not be able to get the essential oils anyway. It is only my theory that they would help. And they are a more expensive option.

I actually wonder if the best thing to do is Bill Munro's hydrogen peroxide inhalation therapy. That, plus a good diet (quality whole foods).

There is discussion here sometimes about using hydrogen peroxide in a humidifier at night. This is something that your friend wouldn't have to "do" anything to benefit from.

Mullein tea is gentle and a good lung herb. (Be sure to strain out the herb completely with a coffee filter and not a traditional strainer to get out any of the irritating mullein "hairs.")

Your friend is blessed to have you looking out for them.

Mama to Many,

I have a very skeptical friend soon to lodge with me who has Interstitial lung disease. Is the 'lung healing' from Heritage still seen as a good remedy. Thought I may try and convince them to use a diffuser at night. And if so how many drops do you use in the diffuser? Just how big a bottle will I need to buy.

Saying that, I am in the UK ...have looked online the remedy seems only to be available from the USA.

DMSO

★★★★★

You know, DMSO is approved by FDA for treatment of hemorragic cystitis. I about died when I confirmed this, as DMSO has be characterized as quackery by the medical powers that be. I don't understand why lesser forms of cystitis are not being catagorized as treatable with DMSO. My suspicion is that the hemoragic cystitis is so crippling and so evil that somebody with a heart at the FDA couldn't igonore the clinical research suggesting efficacy for this horrific illness. Cystitis has been called "autoimmune," naturally! By now many people reading this can predict that I will associate it with a virus or elusive infection.

How does DMSO work? Many, many theories but very few pertaining to viruses. It would be too simple and easy to say that DMSO best known as oxygen donor, attacks anaerobic viruses by depriving them of their anaerobic environment. This would be too easy! Too cheap!

Baking soda, I was skeptical at first about this broad range therapy. But, after reading so many, many testimonials from people not promoting themselves or selling anything, hell, I am about to write something about this cheap, simple remedy on my own research website. I will of course try it myself as I too am battling a chronic illness, a confirmed infection of the prostate.

Ted, in this regard has been benificial by taking the time a providing the chemistry to me which explains Baking soda's relationship to CO2.
More on that later. Baking soda, higher urine ph, is in fact anti viral as viruses just love slightly acidic environments. Alkaline ph actually prevents viral transcription of RNA for replication. Base pair matching cannot happen at certain ph levels. Even in cancer. Whatever we believe causes cystitis one thing is for certain, once again, higher oxygen and higher ph are god sent remedies.
