Thanks Ted!!! I tried the 50-50 hydrogen peroxide & baking soda mix and it reduced my keloid scar which was the size of a garbonzo bean to a pea size within 10 minutes. I have had this scar for 5 years after a mole removal gone bad a the dermotologist office since he did not allow the aenestitc time to kick in. My skin does not have any other keloid scars and I have been embarassed of the scar since its in such a visible area. I went back to the Dr.s office and he wanted to inject or remove the keloid yet it may leave a worse indentation. I decided to search for a natural remedy as an alternative and it worked. Thanks again DAK!!! ; )

Hello people,

Looking for some help. I have some 20 big keloids on shoulders and chest. These are 12 yrs old now.

I just bought DMSO liquid and lugol iodine(5% iodine and 10% Potassium Iodide). Can someone tell me how to apply these on keloids and how often? Has anyone seen results using this combination?

Ted recommeded treatments for keloid scars. I tried the apple cider vinegar treatment first without any noticeable effect. Then I tried the teatree oil/lavendar oil treatment with very little effect. And now I am trying a third suggestion. Ted actually said to use a potassium carbonate/hydrogen peroxide paste on the keloid. I didn't have potassium carbonate so I substituted it with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and made a paste with the 3%hydrogen peroxide. I notice a change in less than 2 hrs. My keloid scar has almost flattened now and is fading a little. I have been using this treatment for 6 days now. This treatment has done as well or even better job than the steroid shot injections I have endured over the years trying to get rid of this darn keloid. It's interesting that keloid stings and itches for about 5 minutes after applying the soln. but does nothing when applied to my normal skin. Thanks so much Ted! You're the best! I will share your suggestions with other keloid sufferers! Thanks Earth Clinic for your website, too.

From my notes:

Put Apple Cider Vinegar solution on keloid for about 5 days where I soaked a cotton with ACV and keep it on my Keloid from the time.

A great home remedy for treating keloids is apple cider vinegar because it helps minimize the size and redness of the scar.

  1. Apply diluted apple cider vinegar to water ratio 1~10 directly on a gauze the affected area so the vinegar is well absorbed into the skin.

  2. Bandage it in place in order to expedite healing.

  3. I've seen this treatment resolve keloids in under one week.

If the apple cider vinegar causes any skin irritation, you can dilute it with water even more.

Hi - I just was reading about ACV as a cure for keloid scarring. I had surgery on my chest 4-5 years ago now. I had massive keloids across my whole chest where the pec muscles lay.

They started out fine and over time got really raised and hurt. I ended up going in to get steroid shots. It helped flatten them 95% from what they were. There are a couple tiny spots that are a little bumpy yet, but I am not concerned about that anymore.

My question is, since they are so pink and have been since I had surgery, would ACV help bring that pinkness down to a more natural skin tone? Or does anyone have any suggestions to make the color fade? I just want to be able to walk around without my shirt on outside, and it's killing me that these scars are so prominent that I am going to get nothing but stares, whispers and points from people.

Dear Alejandra,

Perhaps some infection got in during the scab formation? I would clean it with some iodine or hydrogen peroxide.

If you can get some activated charcoal powder, you can make a poultice to put over the area overnight. You would put a little plastic wrap over the poultice and use a bandana to attach it to your head.

Here is how to make a charcoal poultice.

I would use one each night until all infection is cleared. You can use one during the day, too, if you like. The longer the charcoal is on in a day, the more quickly it will heal. Use a clean poultice each night, and a new one for the daytime if you use it then as well.

It sounds like you are moving in the right direction. I hope you are all healed up soon!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Hi all,

I'm currently using raw apple cider vinegar (actually, it is turmeric vinegar, made the same way as raw ACV but using turmeric root -- it's only available here in India where I'm currently traveling) on my keloids and have experienced the following over the past 5 days:

- burning and itching on the scars when vinegar is applied

- dark scabbing. Some of the scabs have come off, revealing bright pink tissue underneath -- it's still the keloid though, and I'm wondering if it will actually flatten and lighten up with continued application? It's only been 5 days.

I've been putting the vinegar on in 2 ways: (1) made little patches out of a cotton towel and taped them on for longer periods, up to overnight and (2) apply every vinegar few minutes with a cotton swab when I'm not using the patches. The patches keep it on longer, but they're big and inconvenient, and the tape irritates my skin a lot.

Does anyone know if vinegar can actually restore the scar tissue to the texture of normal skin, or does it just flatten it slowly by process of erosion?

I'm also wondering if hydrogen peroxide is a good option, and if anyone has done both at the same time (alternating)? How does the hydrogen peroxide work? The vinegar makes sense to me (like a peel facial! ), but the h/p is confusing.

Greatly appreciate any and all responses! I've had my keloids for 15 - 31 years (almost my whole life) and would love to see change. Thanks!

Dear friends,

One of the biggest problem of people suffering from keloid and my..is the way ortodox medicine and social background treat you. As the medicine have not, or do not want to search for right answer and disturb pharmaceutical capital , you are mostly case for psychiatrist .you are not able to work but your diagnosis is your fantasy, why? Because you are danger for doctors authority because you know much more about your problem than they because you was alone in it but have to survive and you use much more information from internet and your head, I am not prone to keliid as i am not black and I had a lot of skin injuries as it is normal for children.but i have never had keloid on such places. I have keloid on skin place where i got vaccine as a child .and i do not believe in being prone. It is obvious that my immunity is disturb by vacine as happened to many people and place where i got vacine injection is body part with start with fight against toxic and unfamiliar material in vacine. Thanks to my intelligent body that start with inflammation trying to move out enemy from me. I realy have objective feeling all my life that something strange and uncomfortable is in keloid. But i was young and my parents were not informed and we were manipulated by propaganda and brainwashing .my keloid was quiet for years and repeat inflammation after 25 years as I got more toxin from teeth covering. The point is....it is obvious that my and other keloids should be result of 2 variables immunity problem and toxic ingredients which have critical line to show bad symptoms. I want to tell you my very dramatic experience to be public for discussing and feed back. I have started with some kind of drainage beside dieting as i have seen that it helps me in detoxifying and helps me to breath normal and lost of lot dramatic symptoms. Whenever I left some little amount of blood to poor out of keloid I felt a strong metal smell in blood but I felt much better, after one year i have not metal smell .my blood from keloid was nearly blue violet at the beginning and now is normal red. My keloid still exist as my body use kelod to move toxin from many part of body system out through limpha and blood. I do not want to tell other people to do this because of possible infection . I did it with sterile needles and have not infection .but i want to say for those people who are thinking ...the point is detoxication and moving out toxin .all strategies that helps are good but do not use more chemical stuff that doctors give to you as your problem is that your blood and body have more toxin and specially chemical toxin that we can adapt to and that are not biocompatible with human. So, detoxifying is the point..you are not special rase or prone to keloid . You are full of toxin from experimental medicine like vacine, from food, global and local pollution and so...your problem is very objective and you are not psychiatric case. And please doctors leave your internet fobia and read and read and be more informed as this is the way to use medicine in human way because you and your children should be the victim. This is also appel for society to help people who are victim of mostly intended pollution by understanding problem as very objective. Remember people who has not keloid as a sign of body fighting on skin level maybe are full with cysts and other somatic changes and they ignore it as it should not be seen before they get problems with health "without obvious reason.

My daughter's keloid was probably 6 months or older. Her room mate, as I have stated, was very prone to getting keloids quite frequently. It was her doctor who recommended the Tylenol. It was approx. The size of a dime. She would make a paste of tylenol with a few drops of water and leave it on for a short period of about five minutes. It would start to feel like it was burning but started to immediately feel it changing. The colour went from dark to red to lighter as it started to respond to the Tylenol. On about the third application it broke open and oozed a pus like substance and than scabbed over and shrunk about 2/3s.

If some puss came out and it scabbed over and healed, it was not a keloid scar. Keloids are fibrous scars, not infections. I've had keloids for 50 years and the only thing I have found that fixes them is eating soy products, like soy veggie patties over several years.

Doctors have tried a number of things to deal with them, like cutting one off, which only resulted in an infection and a worse keloid when that healed. I also endured 300 injections of cortisone into the scars themselves when I was young, in college. You can imagine how painful that was, with no results.

Vitamin E is the only thing that makes a difference at all. I imagine that the soy patties have a lot of Vitamin E, and who knows what else. But it makes the scars go flat, and has even reduced the discoloration to the point where many of them have become invisible.

Acetaminophen
Posted by Lloyd (U.S.) on 08/03/2021

The soy probably worked because it has nattokinase in it which might break down scar tissue. They also sell it in capsule form. It's mostly used as a natural blood thinner and to dissolve blood clots.

Keloid Remedies
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 02/22/2013

Hi Teegurl... The remedy I would use for keloids is Ted's lugol's iodine and DMSO (Dimethylsulfoxide) in a 50 - 50 mix. Apply this twice a day to the keloid area. The DMSO helps the iodine to efficiently penetrate deep into the sub-epidermal layers which is where iodine does its best work by helping to regenerate new skin while pushing off the old keloid scar. DMSO is also useful for the skin. Your pain or inflammation problem may well also be caused by pathogens -- this is where lugol's iodine is also highly useful -- because it kills most pathogens in less than one minute.

After topical application of the DMSO/LI mix it would also be useful to apply aloe vera oil afterwards -- this will help heal the skin too. If you have difficulty finding lugols iodine then potassium iodide is fine to use as SSKI (Saturated Solution of Potassium Iodide).

Dear Radhika, I would be very careful with the application of undiluted apple cider vinegar on your skin. It can burn your skin if you press it onto your skin for more than a minute. I know because I held a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar onto a pimple for about 10 minutes and it turned my pimple into a painful wound that was much bigger than the pimple. It scabbed over and took 2 weeks to heal! Be careful!

@Amanda is OH -- I clicked the link from earthclinic.com to your site and was hugely disappointed. You and your husband are on a mission to get rid of keloids? I don't think so.

It seems as if this site had real 'valid' information on anything. You have 1 only 1 before and after shot and you don't say anything about it, nor do you say they used one of the home remedies. It would be great to know - what they used, how long they used it - and how long before they began to see results. Did they use more than one?

You also have Mederma on there - when Mederma is from onion extract and has not been proven to remove scars - let alone reducing keloids. Which is why so many companies clearly state that their formulation is not from onion extract (scartreatmentassociation. com, 2012).

While Mederma is certainly one of the most inexpensive and well-known scar creams on the market, our review staff believes that it is not the best product available for reducing the appearance of both old and new scars. This is because Mederma uses onion extract in their formulas. This ingredient was shown to have the same effect as using petroleum jelly.

See: http://www.scartreatmentassociation.com/scarring-removal/mederma-scar-cream.html

But, what you do have on this site is - is affiliate marketing. It's quite obvious that you are trying to draw traffic from Deirdre's site to yours for affiliate dollars. This is quite evident after visiting your site and strictly MY opinion.

You definitely have your ads running.

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know that i had a hypertrophic scar which is same as keloid but doesnt extend beyond the site of injury . i used tea tree oil on it (100%), please be patient and you will see results, it took two weeks, when you first start using tea tree oil you will think that nothing is happening but after a couple of days, the scar starts to shirnk and scab. Just exfoliate when that happens and keep putting tea tree oil. Tea tree oil doesnt burn healthy skin as bad as apple cider vinager, turns the hypertrophic scar into a white color after it has healed OR if you dont put too much of it. I put too much of it because i wanted to get rid of it, so it shrunk it then scabbed and peeled , now i have lighr pink color that im sure will feed with time and constant honey and aloe vera application. Try it and let me know how it does. Soak a cotton ball , the size of your scar in tea tree oil, put it on your scar and keep it over night then remove it the next day , if there is too much irritation, take a day off or continue if you want results faster. I hope it works for you, i tried everything from ACV, to scillicon sheets, nothing worked except tea tree oil. Use aloe vera once the scar scabs and falls to minimize the burning effects.

Good Luck to you

ok. I went and purchased DMSO last week finally. for myself and a couple of friends. I have been using it for about a week now. First couple of days I mixed it with povidine iodine. It was the closest thing I could come to potassium iodide. I sent some articles about sski as to why I mixed the two.

Side effects. awful taste in your mouth. supposedly your body smells, I didn't notice, but I do taste it in my mouth for days after using it. Supposedly less than a teaspoon a day won't affect your body odor but who knows. my breath is awful! I'm thinking a drop of peppermint oil.

I used it on some varicose veins, a scab on my leg, that's been there since the end of Sept., a muscle on my other leg that needed some serious stretching, I believe I had permanently strained it a while back, I also used it on some scarring, some with raised keloids on them.

So far, besides the taste in my mouth it's all good. Within one day the muscle in my calf was better, within a few days the varicose vein that had been there for 20 years is kind of fading, the scar keloids are dissolving, the scabs and scars appear to be fading.

Then I added oregano oil in olive oil. Why? it fights yeast. In alternative medicine yeast is the root of all illness. I got sick as a dog within hours. Try to remember when you use this stuff that it boosts whatever you are taking into your body. That means if you are enjoying mouth amusement? ie. something with alot of sugar or not particularly good for you? you will pay.

The supplements I am taking along with this is MSM, vita c, wild yam, black cohosh, chasteberry, magnesium citrate, st. johns wort.

I've stopped craving coffee, although I still drink it. I didn't have chocolate until yesterday after going 24 hours without coffee. I also neglected my magnesium supplements for a day. Chocolate cravings have to do with a Magnesium defficiency. :)

I just put it on my doggie's hot spot on his paw as well as some scabs on his back from his extreme flea allergy.

I'm psyched about this stuff :)

Posted by Lisa (Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa) on 10/15/2012

Hi San, I have written about this on here before regarding MSM and keloid scars. We started using MSM many years ago before anyone really had even heard of it. It was my dad who introduced me to it for body pain due to exercise. He insisted I try it and I hesitatingly agreed to it. It was absolutely amazing! Both my husband and I continued to use it on a regular basis taking it in powder form since it seemed to be more effective than the capsules. It was well into the second year of regularly taking it that suddenly we both noticed our scars had diminished dramatically. I had one on my foot from an operation from many years before and my husband had a very large one above his shoulder from a childhood operation. His was even itchy. At the time we both agreed it was the MSM because there was nothing else we were doing back then on such a regular basis. Several years later we would read about MSM for scars.

Now you could try MSM internally but also use MSM cream topically. It certainly can't hurt to try. Hope this info helps. Lisa

Potassium Iodide (SSKI) and DMSO
Posted by Earth Clinic (USA) on 10/01/2008

From the following site:

http://www.tahoma-clinic.com/iodide.shtml

"Keloids" are abnormally thick scars, sometimes as much as an inch thick, that can form after injury. Although anyone can get a keloid, they're more common among blacks than other ethnic groups. Rubbing SSKI into a keloid at least twice daily will ultimately flatten them down to a "normal scar", but it can take many months to a year for particularly bad ones. The treatment goes faster if SSKI is mixed "50-50" with DMSO.

Someone told me that using Gum Spirit of Turpentine helps dry out keloids completely and they won't come back. She told me to find it at my local pharmacy (or who ever carried it) to see if it worked. I just started and I'm only a week in. It seems to be drying it out very slowly. I have three keloids on my ear. The biggest one is about as big as a pencil eraser on the back of my ear. The second one is on the front side of my ear and it's half the size of my biggest one. And the smallest is where my second ear piercing was. It's about half the size of the second. I tried asprin soulution. I tried using vitamin E as well. None of that was working, in fact my keloids seemed to feed off of it. Not sure if this "remedy" is working either but will see what happens in a month or so.

Hi,

I have severe keloids on my chest and right and left shoulders. I had one single keloid on my chest around 13 years back and then they have grown over time. Few of them have split, few have horizontal lines over them and they are just spreading. I have tried cortisone injections, aloe vera, baking soda and none of them have worked.

I am having keloids on my right and left shoulders and upper chest and they are slowly spreading over my back and on the upper arms. They start as acne and keep on growing. I had only one keloid on my upper chest around 13 years back and they kept spreading. Few of them have split into two and few have horizontal lines over them. I had taken few cortisone injectons, and few of them reduces, but I have got a lot of new ones and they are just spreading. I have tried aloe vera, baking soda and none of them have worked.

Kindly help me identify the cause for these spreading keloids and remedies. I keep applying crushed garlic which dries them and peels off the upper layer, but the process is very slow. Kindly help on how to prevent them from spreading and clear the existing ones.

I have read in a previous thread that it could be because of fungus and some energy path.

Posted by Lilia (Sofia, Bulgaria) on 01/12/2016

I wanted to ask the contributer of the post about castor oil removing a large keloid-which is also the Editor's choice- of when did he start using the castor oil, how long after the keloid has developed., and whether the scar is entirely gone, I.e. Is it still in any way visible, or gas the skin regained its normal colour and texture. Thank you very much. My daughter has a keloid from a 3 yr old surgery on her stomach and I am considering to try the use of castor oil... When I heat it -do I put it in hot water or just warm water-wouldn't the heat damage the qualities of the castor oil? Once again, thank you very much!!!
