Every product in general that is good for your skin is also good for a keloid. My experience shows me that much. I've tried almost everything. Laser operation, corticosteroid injections, surgical removal, silicon plates and gels .... sooo many. I've achieved best results using MAGNESIUM OIL - Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate!!! And TEA TREE OIL!!!

It is also very important that you protect your keloid from sun exposure or use higher sunprotect factor!

Is the magnesium oil still effective?

How often should it be used.

Thank you.

I relized that I have a keloid forming on my left ear. I like to try to research solutions on my own through the Internet and I've found that some people say tea tree oil is an excellent way to help it heal, but I've also heard some negative comments about it. I was just wondering if tea tree oil is or is not good for keloids.

Dear Reshma,

Lavender and Tea Tree are usually safe to use on the skin. However, most find Tea Tree to be a little strong used straight. You could diulte it a little (1 part tea tree, 1 part lavender and 2 parts (or more) coconut oil or olive oil.)

Wheat Germ Oil is supposed to be good for scars, but I haven't done that personally.

Comfrey is also a good herb for the skin. It has been known to help heal old scars. You might be able to find a comfrey salve for this purpose.

I have recently been learning about Serrapeptase, which is supposed to dissolve fibrous (scar) tissue. You take it internally. But I am new to using it, so I do not know if it would work for this, but it might be something to research.

Please let us know what helps you. I hope you find your solution soon.

I would like to ask Ted from Bangkok about keloid scar please

Dear Ted, I had hypertrophic scar on my nose for 5 years, from a cystic pimple. Microdermabrasion 3 years ago flattened it a little bit. Scar was still bothering me, so I massaged it month and week ago with castor oil, which improved and worsened the scar, since there was worsening, I decided to keep the oil within boundaries, therefore massaged it with qtip, which was a bad idea, because it made scar swell up, scab turned on half of it, scar became bigger and wider.

On New Year's Eve (2,5 months ago) I have been observing changes, scar has been raising up a little bit more, and widening more, mainly it grows in line (you could call it either flat or straight keloid I guess), I am afraid that I may have created keloid, because it went further than where damage occured. I have visited dermatologists (2) and plastic surgeons (2), they all said that I have either normal or hypertrophic scar, but believe me, I had some before, and none of them behaved this way. This is definitely something different than what I had previously, and in my opinion it definitely is keloid.

Btw, I have seborrhoeic dermatitis, not sure if it is related somehow to my scar or not (perhaps pressure due to oil is pushing the scar tissue up? Or that oil makes it seem like there is continues damage taking place under the skin?

During last month I have been eating a lot more veggies. In the morning I eat only fruits (mostly oranges and apples, or kiwi, or banana from time to time), and then I have at least 1 salad, where I put ALWAYS broccoli, kale, and spinach (I steam them for couple of minutes of course), carrot, and then rest of the vegetables vary, but mostly it is kohlrabi, red radish, olives (either green or black), cucumber. I also put olive oil or other kind of oil into salad, along with either apple cider vinegar or balzamico vinegar. I also try to drink 1 tea a day, drink lots of water, and take B6, zinc, D3 each day. Scar has still been worsening and spreading unfortunately :(.

How should I treat it please?:(

Thank you.

You could try serrapeptase, a digestive enzyme. I had read about it to minimize scar tissue formation after a car accident, and read it can also help keloid. I was out of my soft neck collar the day after starting it, used 2 capsules twice daily initially, now 2 capsules three times daily.

First of all, thanks to Ted and all of you for sharing your experiences.. I am really fortunate to see this site...
I am 24 yrs old and i have chest keloids(I dont remember how it started, but before i realised that its serious, thy have grown to 6 in numbers) for the past 5 years(adding 2 new keloids every year on a n average). This is my case, step by step:

Keloid Year 1st, 2nd, 3rd year: --- Ignored and i did not go for any treatment

Keloid Year 4 - Underwent Steroid injections for 1 year.. Though it got reduced, i stopped for some side effects

Keloid Year 5 (i)- First 6 months, i applied natural creams suggested by Ayurveda.. No result.. I got new keloids around the treatment(This is because of my steroid treatment earlier i guess). Puss came out of existing keloids too... The most painful period.

Keloid Year 5 (ii) - for 3 months till now -- Taking homeopathy intake(since i heard, it does not have ay side effects) with no diet restrictions. I do not see improvements yet(though my doc said it will show up results in 6 months)

Since i am under homeopathy treatment, i am trying to be patient for the next 3 months.. But meanwhile i want to try natural remedies with external application only.

I saw the following suggested by Ted, which are simple to follow:

1. ACV
2. Hydrogen peroxide(3 %) Baking soda... Please let me know how should i mix 3 %.. Shall i do a mixture and apply daily (or) should i mix them on a daily basis and apply ?
3. 50 percent Tea tree oil and 50 percent Lavendar Oil
4. 50 % water 50 % DMSO solution.

I will try the above one by one(giving each 3 weeks to notice the change before shifting to next, if it does not work)

Hope by god's graces and Ted's advice, everything will work out well. It has been emotionally draining and stressful to see keloids growing, itching, paining, restricting movements, not being able to do something normal person would do freely(like swimming or any other upper body exposure activities)....

can somebody suggest any other effective external application(after having tried the above 4 with little effect).. Kindly help me in this regard...

Ted - I am ready to meet you in person in Thailand, if you are fine with it.

A web search of the word enzymes and keloid will produce information regarding taking proteolytic enzymes (without food) to dissolve scar tissue and fibrin build up. Dr. Wong wrote the articles about enzymes that I'm familiar with. In his and his wife's experience some enzymes work much better than others. There are brands made in Japan and the U.S.

This is something that I didn't understand until fairly recently. People with certain blood types tend to have less enzymes than others which may explain something about scar problems.

I think that a web search for appropriate research will produce helpful info. I hope this helps.

Ted from Bangkok's keloid cures

I used 3% Hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip and dotted it on a round keloid formation on my left shoulder and then dipped it in baking soda and rubbed that on top to make a very light paste 2-3 times a day.

The first couple days it bubbled from the peroxide and it lightened significantly in an instant. Over the next number of days I could tell it was completely dried out and the top was a crispy white. It didn't bubble anymore either and it's almost completely flat. I'm starting to believe it was some sort of infection/fungus that was being fed by moisture. I've tried everything and even got rid of it several times completely using garlic and olive oil just for it to return again. I hope this works, thanks.

I tried the baking soda peroxide. How long did you leave it on each time? I bought some potassium carbonate, but there was some warning that came with it that said to seek medical attention if it comes in contact with your skin. Not sure if I should still use it with the peroxide. Any suggestions? Oh, one thing I noticed, the first time I used the baking soda peroxide mix, and left it on for 30 minutes, it bleached the really fine/invisible hairs on my face blonde. On brown skin, that looks a little weird. Just be prepared for that.

Do Not Use Hydrogen Peroxide on healing tissue!! It will break the new tissues down!! Also it has to be Food Grade Hydrogen peroxide, not store bought or Pharmacy bought, as these contain additives. You dilute the Food Grade using only DISTILLED WATER, do not use any other water, dilute it to 3 percent. You do this by putting one measure of Food Grade to Eleven equal amounts of Distilled Water, that will make 3 percent. Be careful to avoid new tissues, and I certain ally would not recommend putting it on scar tissue, 3 percent is ok for carefully cleaning a new wound out carefully avoiding any area's that are not damaged, I prefer to use Lugol's iodine for wounds. You can Purchase the Food Grade and Distilled Water, or buy a Distillation unit and make it yourself. Hope this help's you, Love Andrea C xxxxxx

I have a 9cm wide and about 1/2 to 3/4 cm high keloid across my chest. I have had it for about 25years. As keloids usualy go it grew from a pimple to this after steroid injections. I have just made a mixture of 1/2 tsp 3% hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 tsp of baking soda and placed it on the keloid 4 times yesterday. I would like to know how long do you think it will take till I see some visible flattening. I am so desperate for it to go away.

Hi All,
What I have read about Keloid scars - that is the raised scars is that topical injection of novocaine makes them flatter. I have not tried that because I did not have to. I have had good results with strong copper peptide cream made specifically for getting rid of scars. It hurts sometimes when I put it on but from my research the copper peptide helps stimulate collogen to grow. I noticed it makes my scar flat and slowly over the last couple years my scar is still getting smaller. I use it once a day, at night only as it is green. I wish you well.

Thanks Ted!!! I tried the 50-50 hydrogen peroxide & baking soda mix and it reduced my keloid scar which was the size of a garbonzo bean to a pea size within 10 minutes. I have had this scar for 5 years after a mole removal gone bad a the dermotologist office since he did not allow the aenestitc time to kick in. My skin does not have any other keloid scars and I have been embarassed of the scar since its in such a visible area. I went back to the Dr.s office and he wanted to inject or remove the keloid yet it may leave a worse indentation. I decided to search for a natural remedy as an alternative and it worked. Thanks again DAK!!! ; )

I have one chest keloid which started as a pimple that wouldn't go away. I went to a dermatologist who injected with some steroid and it grew very quickly (I don't believe I am a natural keloider, I have only one). I later found another doctor using a Kenalog and anti-cancer drug mix/injection which flattened the scar immediately and took away all the pain, but it seems to only last for a year at a time only to come back at the tail of the injection site. so it has actually moved and I have been looking for a natural remedy ever since so I hope Ted's suggestions work. the other injections are very expensive and although it works, it's heartbreaking to see it come back.
It's now comming back red, has not itched yet so I will start the Apple Cider Vinegar and I am going to change my diet and try Ted's topical suggestions I do believe Ted is right about the wheat and sweets because I did eat allot of fried foods, wheat and sweets. Any other suggestions I'll try them all. Thanks.

A doctor once told me that it's a heredity gene carried. My family on the side of my mother, they practicially all some at least 2 or more keloids. My mom has it as well. She had 8 children and out of those 8, I was the only one that has some too. They are horrible and I hate them. All the types of food someone has mentioned that causes them, I love to eat!!! What will I eat if I stop eating those certain types? Hehehehe!

I thought that putting baking soda/peroxide on my keloid scar helped flatten my scar, but i was also drinking 1-2 TBL apple cider vinegar in water at the time in addition. After reading someone else's posting, I believe it is actually the apple cider vinegar that has helped flatten my keloid scar.

I have had this raised scar for ages and it has never healed. I try not to bother with it. Anyway I started taking a capful of ACV straight everyday for a few days after reading this site. At the same time I also started doing a fasting cleanse for detox and weight loss. (I'm not overweight but I want to lose a belly.) Today I noticed that my scar was suddenly much flatter! It actually looked "deflated" and a bit wrinkly. The scar is also much softer to the touch - when before it was a really hard nub. I don't know if it was my fasting cleanse or the ACV but it could have been both. I would love to know why it helps if anyone or Ted knows!

Ted recommeded treatments for keloid scars. I tried the apple cider vinegar treatment first without any noticeable effect. Then I tried the teatree oil/lavendar oil treatment with very little effect. And now I am trying a third suggestion. Ted actually said to use a potassium carbonate/hydrogen peroxide paste on the keloid. I didn't have potassium carbonate so I substituted it with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and made a paste with the 3%hydrogen peroxide. I notice a change in less than 2 hrs. My keloid scar has almost flattened now and is fading a little. I have been using this treatment for 6 days now. This treatment has done as well or even better job than the steroid shot injections I have endured over the years trying to get rid of this darn keloid. It's interesting that keloid stings and itches for about 5 minutes after applying the soln. but does nothing when applied to my normal skin. Thanks so much Ted! You're the best! I will share your suggestions with other keloid sufferers! Thanks Earth Clinic for your website, too.

If you can't find food grade peroxide in India at a health food store, try going to a beauty supply store and buy 30% peroxide that you'd use for coloring hair. Just don't drink it!It may very well be the same thing they sell at 35%, but much much cheaper. I am using 30% peroxide from a beauty supply store to treat nail fungus (on a q-tip) and it appears to be working.

I have plantar fibroma. I tried vitamin e for the last 8 weeks. 400 iu of pure E which supplied the complete E family twice a day. I poked a hole in the gel cap and applied it to the plantar fibroma. I then rubbed on some vicks vapor rub and applied the vapor rub to a band aid and put it on top of the fibroma. After 8 weeks, I see no change and I am ready for another solution. Surgery is not an option because these fibromas come back twice as large. Has anyone ever gotten rid of a plantar fibroma? I would like to try topically applied remedies. I would like to hear from someone with a success story and how they did it or any advice.

Hi Achraf,

I have tried electro-acupuncture (12 treatments total so far) for my keloids on my chest, shoulder and arm, and did notice some very interesting results.

My keloids are very old (20+ years) but responded in the following ways:

--almost completely stopped itching

--started to flatten

-- color started to turn skin-colored in small patches within the keloid

the change was gradual, over the course of the 12 treatments in 2 months, but also noticed more tissue flexility and nervous system reactions in those areas due to the treatment.

However, it requires a lot of patience and is somewhat painful (at needle insertion), and somewhat expensive considering the number of treatments required -- but not as expensive as steroid injections or laser treatment of course -- so I would try the home remedies first if you can.

I had to leave my acupuncturist for travel that I'm currently doing, so now I will try the home remedies while I am away.
