Mouth Acid Remedies

Natural treatments for mouth acid require specific remedies that balance the pH in the mouth. Apple cider vinegar and baking soda help alkalize as well as neutralize the environment in the mouth and offer relief from additional acid in the mouth. Some supplements may also help eliminate acid mouth.

What is Mouth Acid?

Several conditions cause the presence or taste of acid in the mouth. One of the most common is acid reflux, which causes the stomach acid to flow backward from the stomach up and into the throat and mouth.

Excess acid in the mouth presents a number of symptoms including a sour taste in the mouth, bad breath, difficulty swallowing, choking, trouble breathing, irritation of the throat and coughing or burning in the throat. Additional causes may include nutritional deficiency, candidiasis, anxiety, depression, hormonal changes and others.

Natural Oral Health Remedies

The mouth is a complex environment that is susceptible to a variety of conditions. Proper oral health care incorporates proper teeth brushing techniques, flossing, mouth washing and others oral hygiene practices. Eliminating acid in the mouth, however, requires supplemental practices including apple cider vinegar, baking soda and alpha lipoic acid.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a natural, nutrient-rich compound. When taken daily as a tonic, apple cider vinegar works to alkalize and level acidity in the body. This effective home remedy is also effective at eliminating additional acid in the mouth.

Baking Soda

A natural compound, baking soda has been used for years as a safe cleaner and baking additive. It also has found purpose in use as a natural health treatment. Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate rather, helps regulate pH, avoiding an imbalance of acid and alkalinity in the body.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Alpha lipoic acid is natural chemical that functions much like a vitamin. An effective antioxidant, alpha lipoic acid balances the levels of vitamins and minerals in the body and regulates the buildup of other toxins in the body.

Mouth acid is often the result of other health conditions. Nonetheless, natural treatment options can balance the body and eliminate excess acid as well as other comorbid conditions.

I have had a bad taste for about 15 years. Have had 3 MRIs and 3 CT scans and many rounds of antibiotics to no avail. Two days of 1tbsp. Apple cider vinegar/ 1 tsp. Baking soda in a cup of boiling water sipped and amazingly the bad taste is gone!

Sipping ACV might be akin to chewing aspirin or chewing vitamin c tablets. I have read that ACV (with regard to the teeth) should be downed quickly followed up by plenty of water and no teeth-brushing right away. maybe for other parts of the body it should be sipped, but if you want teeth to eat with down the road, eliminate the sipping.

READ THIS: Hi every one. I felt compelled to write in hopes of maybe helping others. I am still quite young but about 4 years ago I started having the worst acid taste in my mouth my diet consisted of basically sugar and I never took multi vitamins. This lasted for over 3 years of much suffering. I had other health issues, such as vaginal infections. I often had fevers and chills, and of coarse this acid taste in my mouth. Finally I figured out I had CANDIDA. wreaking havoc on my entire body.

I started drinking Apple Cider Vinegar in my water. and day and night I also drink 1/4rth of a teaspoon of Baking Soda in my water. I drink it seperatly. I reccomend not mixing them together. Can be drunk at the same time just not in the same cup. I have since been cured of the acid taste in my mouth! But not without getting over 11 cavities in my mouth!!

Acidity in your mouth is part of a bigger issue going on in your body. If you have taken anti biotics before, or have a diet high in carbs or crave sugar you most likely have Candida. It makes you super tired and brain fog I encouage you to please educate yourselves on Candida.

The ACV and Baking soda WORKS, remember disease cannot thrive in an alkaline enviroment. and our bodies our much healthier at an alkaline state. If you have acid taste in your mouth you would benefit from ACV and Baking Soda. If you start to feel tired that means you have Candida, and it's a GOOD THING. This is called a "DIE OFF REACTION" and is the Candida dying off in your body. No worries, every one must go through this but keep at it with the ACV and Baking Soda!

How long do you have to drink ACV and baking soda to cure the acid taste in mouth completely? do you have to drink every day for 1 month or longer?

I have been suffering with burning toungue and acid mouth for ten years and I thought it was from Flouride in water because the month flouride was put in Sacramento water I started burning in my mouth. When I was eating alkaline foods (not knowing what I was doing good) it will be 40% to 50% better but never had a cure. with milk and yogurt my conditions worsens. Some days I will have so much burning and acid in my mouth that I will have canker sores from it. I didn't know what will trigger it since I will eat tomatoes one day and I will be alright with them but other days I will get a bad burning with tomatoes too. Even bananas gave a bad burning to my mouth( tomatoes and unripe bananas are alkaline).

I wanted to clear the point that after ten years of suffering I, by chance came to "EARTH CLINIC" site and I am so thankful to God that I found it. I read about baking soda 1/4 teaspoon and water 8 oz. drink it for two weeks on empty stomach 2 to 3 times a day. Ted also said just take this to alkalize your mouth then after two weeks start on applecider and baking soda both. Sometimes (with some people who have low magnesium and low potassium) they will need a pinch of potassium bicarbonate and magnesium citrate 250 to 300mg in the water also and I remember Ted also said that if you have Thyroid problem (which I do have) then do not take too much potassium just take a pinch in your water for few days and quit. Ted also said to avoid any sugar products even honey, white breads ( sometimes all wheat bread because you might be allergic to Gluten) and avoid all dairy products. then you will get good results.

That's exactly what I did. First thing I did was I quit taking sugar ( watching all the ingredients in products with " OSE" in the end like fractose, lactose, Maltose, textrose, and the list goes on and on with syrups and artificial sugars) then I took baking soda and water 2 times a day on an empty stomach for 2 weeks and WOW my burning mouth was gone. I realized if I take any thing with sugar the burning comes back. I am trying not to take suger at all for atleast six months. I am so happy with the result that I also started doing some other things on this site. I started to OIL PULL, Take LECITHIN with my dinner ( since I had my gallbladder out I always had bloating and Lecithin granulated helped with gas and bloating it helps breaking up the fat in digestion) I am also doing yoga for my legs pain since I can not take too much of potassium. I took Magnesium for 5 days a week leaving two days and it has helped me a little but I only take one 150 mg to 200mg in water. I am afraid to load my body with all the things at once so I will try this later. I did buy me some EPSOM SALT to soak my feet to get some Magnesium. I am getting towards a healthy me. By the way I am 51 and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism recently but I do not want to take the medication (methimezol) it was making me lethargic. I am trying to find VIRGIN COCONUT OIL here in Miami ( I don't see alot of health food stores in Miami) But I will go to Sacramento California soon I know some health food stores and co-Ops over there.I am visiting my daughter here in Miami.

Thank you Ted and others who give us their precious time to support all of us and give the best remedies to try. Good luck to all of us who are in sufferings and pains.

re: Apple Cider Vinegar Dose. About tongue and mouth acid issues! Two tablespoons [ACV] and baking soda!!!! It doesn't work that way... Ted thinks that because the human body works best in a slightly alkaline condition then his food should also be alkaline. In fact this is patently false. Some foods actually alkalize the body when consumed in their naturally acidic form. ACV is one such food. A little research on this subject would quickly settle this issue for you. His main problem is dosage. Some people think 'more is better' but in this case it is not true. The correct dose is one teaspoon per cup! So forget the baking soda, its proper use is to make baked goods lighter.

Baking Soda and Tea Bag

My son's mouth was very sore. He had little white spots that looked like irritation but not thrush or even canker sores. Turned out the soreness started after he ate some beef jerky the other day.

I had him put 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in a couple of tablespoons of water and rinse his mouth. I gave him two moist black tea bags, folded up, to hold in the back of his mouth between the molars where it was the worst. He went to work and I forgot about it. Later I asked him about it and he said it was mostly better.

I am guessing that his mouth got overly acidic and irritated. The baking soda helped reduced acidity and the black tea has astringent and healing properties.

You don't always always have to know exactly what is wrong to help a situation. Baking soda and tea will work well for so many mouth issues and is generally a safe place to start if you don't know what to do.

I am using oatmeal/steel cut (cup) morning with cinnamon and soy milk. Lo fat chicken broth with instant Barley (1/2 cup added to soup) for lunch. When I get hungry I have plain yogurt. I take udo encyme 2 capsules before each meal, and 1/4 cup aloe before all big meals. I have suffered all my life with GERD and acid mouth. This has not been easy because I like white wine. I have 2 glasses at least 3-4 times a week. This diet has soothed my sore stomach. I tried everything and this works. It is inexpensive and healthy!!I also had hpylori, and there is scar tissue from 2 ulcers.

It cured that rotten taste in my mouth. I have had to go on a food regimen because I know that everything I eat sends me to the moon with the burping. If you took a match to me I would blow sky high. I got several books from library and found the food we eat today and the additives in them are not good for we who have stomach problems. Barley is used in most of my meals. Enzyme capsules and aloe drink helps so much also. My dad died from stomach cancer when I was young. We think that this may have been his problem too.

I do not eat candy I did not like the acid taste in mouth. The candy would increase discomfort!! Eating right is the key. After reading comments from people, many of them are taking too many drs prescriptions that is damaging to the liver. Barley, oatmeal, fat free soup, rye crisp (snacks) Aloe vera drinks, and Enzymes at least 2 before each meal. I also take a 1/2 lemon juice and 1/2 tes baking soda and glass water, to stop belching.. It will not cure the Gerd, but it will ease any stomach problems. I was tested in Lenox Hill Hospital to measure the acid level in system, it would help to run my car for a week, that is how strong. You fight the disease, do not let it fight you!!! Ulcer cures and foods are the way to go.

WATCH what you eat.

I've been looking for remedies for mouth burns on the net for several days and what came up was on consumer{advice or alert.com or something like that} and there are pages of people complaining about a very common and popular toothpaste that causes them to have mouth pain from possibly the chemcial used for bleaching or whitening the teeth. And this chemical is also present in the other leading toothpaste starting with the same letter of the alphabet. The only one I've bought is (cant disclose this info cause of this websites issues with it) the leading and most advertised toothpaste in California it starts with a c, the next letter is an r next is the 5th letter of the alphabet the next is the 19 I believe and ends with a t. Hope this is helpful to others with the same painful problem. I hope to find a remedy for this soon as it is diffcult to eat. Haven't had problems with skin sloughing off just lots of pain in the gums and initially on the throat and esophogus which some pain has subsided after 1 and 1/2 weeks.

Oatmeal is an acidic food item. I don't think that would help your mouth acid any.

Oil Pulling

Oil Pulling 2x/day (morning & evening) does wonders for Mouth Acid.

I put a spoonful of organic extract extra-virgin coconut oil with a strong essential oil (i.e tea tree, clove, peppermint, or even lavender). At times, I'll mix two essential oils together with the coconut oil but mainly will only try one essential oil.

Swish in mouth continuously for 15-20mins (don't swallow it), then spit it either in an empty bottle or outside (don't spit in the sink or toilet bowl), and then brush your teeth.

Anyone with GERD needs to stay away from peppermint/spearmint/cinnamon. they can aggravate symptoms.

Why can't you spit the oil in the toilet bowl? A lot worse goes down that drain.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Hello, I tried the remedy for sour acid stomach and sore tongue with coating plus GERD intended for Ted, which was 1/2 tsp baking soda & 1/4 tsp Potassium Citrate plus Magnesium Citrate, B vitamins, & amino acids. My B vitamins come from a multi-vitamin that I am taking. I started yesterday and got immediate results! However, I now have diarhea with mucus. I wonder how long I should take this remedy safely. Also, I have candida, so when I tried a store bought veg juice, I seemed to suffer from hypoglycemia and brain fog. I am only eating home made chicken broth. Any idea how long this could last? It has already been a week. Has anyone had this experience? One more thing, I am currently taking 1/2 gm of Progesterone 2x/day, but was advised to go off because it is causing fatigue and feeding the yeast. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks.

In Jan of 2011 I went to my internist for burning mouth hyper salivation, sticky (gross) and he sent me on 4 refills of Nastin thinking or diagnosing "thrush" Since this antibiotic did not clear up my burning tongue, I went to a ENT speacialist and he took several blood test mouth culture and prescribed zinc... That was in April and I still have burning mouth worse in the evenings. This condition along w/the sticky, hyper salivation gives me concern; however, I will try the ACV treatment and go from there..... Open to other helpful suggestions.

I believe that your doctor put you on Nystatin (a fungicide) to kill the thrush which is really just yeast of the mouth. I have had it too recently for the first time ever( and this is most likely due to yeast throughout my body), and the buring tongue for 4 years on and off, lost all of my teeth suddenly one year for no forseable reason, and after much research on my own and with my doctor, I found I have not just' Burning Tongue Syndrome', but Sjogrens (pronounced Show-grens) which affects mostly middleaged women(I am 56 and through with menopause) and I also have most of the other symptoms as described by those who are also diagnosed with it.

Surprisingly, I also have hypothroidism which changes every so often to hyperthyroidism which causes me other problems. I just started wtih the horrible taste in the back of my tongue which won't go away. I will try some of what is offered here on this site. Oh, by the way, the problem with most toothpastes that cause your mouth to be on fire, is the 'Sodim Laurel Sulfate'. Try all of the products (including toothpaste) by "Biotene'. They do not burn and made for those with dry mouth and burning tongue.

When my diagnosis of Sjogrens is official from my rheumatologist (who study and diagnose autoimmune diseases, which Sjogrens is), I can then be put on some special medicine that is supposed to really help with the dry mouth and burning tongue. The cracks that open on the side of my lips (where your mouth opens)I don't think it helps with that. Good luck to you and look up burning tongue and Sjogrens on Google on the computer. That is where I started wtih all this mess, then read books about these issues. Certain drugs and not enough sleep make my burning tongue /dry mlouth symptoms worse-much worse.

Go to the nearest dentist that does oral dna testing. There is a new test that will tell you all of the bad bacteria in your mouth. I caught this bitter tasting mouth from a kiss when the bacteria transferred with his saliva. It is terrible.

R-lipoic acid can help alleviate the burning mouth symptoms. I take one Life Extension 240mg capsule per day and notice when I stop for even one day. Omega oils, l-carnitine and mixed amino acids are also beneficial. I got my burning mouth syndrome as a result of dental anaesthetic. Lingual nerve damage.
