When the human papilloma virus infects the mouth, including the tonsils, it must be addressed. Untreated oral HPV can lead to oral and neck cancers. Natural remedies for oral HPV include herbs, vitamin C, and hydrogen peroxide.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C supports your immune system and helps you to fight viruses and recover from them. Sodium ascorbate is the best form of vitamin C to take. Sodium ascorbate powder is inexpensive and free of added chemicals and fillers. You can safely take as much as your body will tolerate. You will know when your body has reached its tolerance when you begin to have loose stools. At that point, cut back a bit on your dose. Most adults can tolerate 1,000 mg of vitamin C several times a day. Many people, when they are sick, can tolerate as many as 20 to 40 grams of vitamin C each day!

Vitamin D

Vitamin D also supports your immune system so that it can effectively fight viruses. If you are not getting much sunshine (especially in the winter) a vitamin D supplement may be appropriate. More is not better with vitamin D. Too much vitamin D can cause vitamin D toxicity.

Herbs for Oral HPV

Herbs can be taken in capsule, tincture or tea form.

  • Echinacea
  • Astragalus
  • Pau D’Arco
  • Turmeric
  • Cayenne Pepper

You can also use herbs as a mouthwash or gargle for Oral HPV.

Spicy Oral HPV Mouthwash

Mix together:

  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper powder
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric root powder
  • 1 tablespoon clove powder
  • 1 tablespoon slippery elm bark powder

Keep your mix in a container. Use 1/4 teaspoon of your mix in once ounce of water. Gargle/swish this twice daily. It will be spicy at first because of the cayenne pepper. However, you will adjust to it. Do not swallow the mixture after you swish and gargle.

Mild Mouthwash Recipe for HPV

Mix together:

  • one dropper full of echinacea tincture
  • one dropper full of astragalus root tincture
  • one ounce of water

Gargle and swish with this mouthwash for 30 seconds twice a day. Do not swallow the mixture after you swish and gargle.

Hydrogen Peroxide

A bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide from the drug store is a great virus fighter. To fight oral HPV, put 1 tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon of water in a cup and then use this to swish in your mouth and gargle. Do the mouth swishing and gargling twice a day for 30 seconds each time. This is an excellent oral habit to continue even after you cure your oral HPV.

Coconut Oil

Extra virgin coconut oil has amazing antiviral properties. It can be taken internally to fight oral HPV and it can be used for oil pulling. Oil pulling with coconut oil will be especially soothing if you have active sores in your mouth from HPV. To “oil pull,” put 2 teaspoons of coconut oil in your mouth (if it is solid, it will melt quickly in your mouth) and swish the coconut oil around for 15 minutes. Do not swallow this coconut oil. Spit it out into a napkin and put it in the trash. Do not put it down the drain either. Coconut oil will become solid in the drain pipes and could cause a clog in your plumbing.

Dietary Considerations

If you are dealing with Oral HPV or any virus, a good diet will give your body the proper food to support natural body processes, including infection fighting. Plenty of fruits, vegetables and other whole foods will support your health. Processed foods, sugar and soda will be empty calories that do not support health and can even depress the immune system. If you do not already consume raw garlic, this would be a good time to take up that habit. Raw garlic is a powerful antiviral. It is easy to add to soups, salads and even sandwiches.

General Feedback

Hi! Can you please create a new topic on Oral HPV? It's very different from other HPVs as topical treatments can't be applied with this form of HPV (when tumors are in the throat) and unfortunately these treatments are most commonly used with other HPVs. Thank you! Xx

EC: Created, thank you for the suggestion!
