Holistic treatment for photophobia can be very effective using home remedies and natural supplements. While most cases of photophobia can be managed using home treatments, some more severe instances may require medical treatment or input from a medical professional.

What Is Photophobia?

A fairly common condition, photophobia is the sensitivity to bright light. Most often photophobia, or eye discomfort in bright light, is actually a symptom rather than a disease itself. Individuals with eye problems or extreme sensitivity may experience extensive eye pain even in relatively low light.

Eye discomfort or pain experienced in specific light levels, typically bright, is the characteristic symptom of photophobia. Additional symptoms may include squinting, headaches and nausea. Discomfort may range from minor squinting in bright light to severe eye pain.

Several factors contribute to the development of photophobia. One of the most common conditions that causes photophobia is a migraine. Triggered by a number of factors, light sensitivity caused by a migraine may also include a severe headache, nausea and vomiting. Brain conditions are another group of factors that contribute to light sensitivity. Encephalitis, meningitis and subarachnoid hemorrhage may cause photophobia. Additionally, eye certain eye conditions may trigger the onset of photophobia. Such eye conditions include corneal abrasion, scleritis, conjunctivitis and dry eye syndrome. Drug use, excessive wearing of contact lenses and eye dilation due to eye testing may also cause light sensitivity.

Home Remedies For Photophobia

Most cases of photophobia can be managed using home remedies or lifestyle changes; however, some more severe instances may require medical treatment or input from a medical professional. Avoiding sunlight, closing the eyes and wearing tinted glasses can help manage light sensitivity due to a short-term condition. Additionally, vitamin B2 may help reverse eye sensitivity as can certain foods including wolfberries. Carotene in carrots and vitamin A also support eye health and may help manage light sensitivity. Vitamin E and l-carnosine are additional supplements that help treat more pervasive eye conditions.

From computer, tv, etc the blue light causes some people problems. I now use yellow lens eyeglasses and it's helped a lot.

I'm curious how it has helped you. Did it reverse any of the photophobia? My left eye has been giving me trouble since Feb. 2016
