In the beginning of '02 he was diagnosed as having bone cancer, so the cancer had progressed significantly. He was given a year to live. At that point, or somewhat thereafter, he began the Essiac Tea. Throughout that year he had very little pain. We were all so thankful and amazed that his pain levels were so manageable, as bone cancer is supposed to be awfully pain-filled - according to his doctors.
Sadly in the middle of that year he left off making and drinking the tea due to his father coming down sick and needing a caretaker. Within 4 months he was diagnosed with brain cancer. (I had never heard that if you leave off taking the Essiac your cancer will progress with a vengence, but that seems to be the case with my Dad too!) He passed in January of '03.
I must say that I believe in the power of Essiac tea. I think it caused my Dad to have a much more pain free and liveable life during his last year. I mean he was super active until about 2 months before the end.
Please read "Calling of an Angel" by Gary Glum. It's an interesting book that describes the origin of Essiac tea. There are lots of people out there who want to capitalize on Essiac, but they are not doing/selling it the way Rene (the discoverer) would have done it. Never use a tincture. You must use the dried herbs and follow Rene's recipe! Also I believe that this website - http://www.larrywinfield.com/recipe1.htm - is quite informative regarding the actual original prescribed doseage.
May God bless you in your search for healing!

I've been getting "google alerts" ever day on ever article written about prostate cancer on the internet. These average about 15 a day. Many of them write about the same subject, but I believe I have learned alot.
The number one thing I have learned is that you have to become your own avocate and seek your own treatment because there are many different opinions out there for treatment and some of them are not the best for a specific case. ALWAYS get a second or third opinion before proceeding with a treatment!!!. If I had gone with the first treatment offered me, it would have been totally wrong. Trying to find the right treatment is like nailing Jello to a tree.
I also learned from many sources that what we eat has an impact on PC growth. I have stopped eating any beef and beef products like milk because every doctor I saw said they know these over time can allow PC to grow. Also other fats except Olive oil. I've gone to a more PC healthly diet.
General Feedback
This is an update to my prostate condition as I published recently on my website.
I was diagnosed with Stage I prostate cancer on Aug 15th 2008 from a 12 core biopsy. I had a second 32 core biopsy that confirmed the diagnosis on Dec. 12, 2008. My Gleason score is 3+3. I am 75 years old and in good health otherwise. I selected Active Surveillance as my treatment.
Part of the surveillance is to get a PSA test every 3-4 months. The test numbers of my PSA have gone up with each test over the past 4 years, indicating the cancer. I took the PSA again on April 15, 2009 and the number decreased from 5.23 to 3.63, a 1.6 drop. This is the first drop since 2006 and considered unusual, but a very good indicator that my cancer may have decreased.
I credit three things for the decrease:
1. Prayer. I have 6 different groups praying for me and I pray each day that if God has things for me yet to do, He will keep me in good health to do them.
2. Drastic change in my diet.
3. Drinking 2-3 oz of Essiac tea twice a day.
ABOUT ME FIRST
My career for 38 years was as a technical writer or managing technical writers. Another name for a technical writer might be "a researcher" because he spends about 75 percent of his time researching his subject, 15 percent writing and 10 percent doing other things. I learned how to research well and to throw out non valid data. I applied this to my study of prostate cancer over the past 6 months.
Since my diagnosis, I've been getting "Google and Yahoo Alerts" every day. This means I get every new article put on the internet that has the words "prostate and cancer" and "prostate and diet". I average of 15-20 articles a day and read about 5. Many are redundant with different media covering the same subject. These include all kinds of information including the results of new scientific studies. Some articles have some very "twisted" information that is not valid, usually picked up from some old article or something the writer once thought was correct.
A number of articles and 3 medical doctors I've seen agree that red meat, mainly beef, is proven to allow prostate cancer to grow. You can't say it causes prostate cancer but can say it reduces your immune system effectiveness by allowing cancer to grow.
One analogy is: Have you ever taken a wire and bent it back and forth a number of times until it finally breaks? This is what happens to the prostate immune system when you eat red meat and animal fat over time. It attacks the immune system over and over and the cumulative results is the immune system breaks and allows cancer to grow. Even the "lean" in beef is fat. One study showed that 1 hamburger has as much fat as 12 crisp slices of bacon!
I learned that Asians and people that live in the Mediterranean part of the world have much less prostate cancer because they do not eat red meat or the fatty diets. If they move to America and eat our diet, they get prostate cancer, In Japan, some of the rich started eating fat beef in recent years and they are now developing cancer.
I was raised in Kansas and spent most of my adult life in Texas. In both places, the center of my diet was beef and beef products. At times I ate a 16 oz fat rib eye steak at least once a week and 70 % of other meals were with some kind of beef. I used to drink 1-2 gallons of milk a week.
MY NEW DIET:
Some New Rules
1. I will not eat beef or beef products of any kind, fixed any way. This includes butter, hamburger, steak, roast, milk or cream, etc. This was hard at first but I'm used to it now after about 5 months of it. I was given a small 6 oz steak at a wedding dinner recently, ate only about 1/3 of it, and decided I did not like it.
2. I will not eat fast food because most of it is fried and full of fat.
3. I will not eat BBQ. The charred part of BBQ is known to cause a number of cancers.
4. I have reduced my intake of sugar foods.
5. I eat more fish.
6. I eat more vegetables, whole grains, brown rice, salads and fruit. Fruit and carrots have become my between meal snacks.
7. I drink more juice, including apple, orange and pomegranate. I use these on my cereal each morning in place of milk. Once you get use to this, you may actually like it.
8. I use only olive oil in and on my foods. No other fats of any kind. I now watch the fat content of anything I buy and have eliminated a number of foods. I have eliminated eating peanuts and peanut butter because of the fat content and damage peanuts can cause the kidneys. I do eat about 20 dry roasted almonds each evening.
9. I do not add sugar or salt to any food.
10. I eat two tablespoons of golden ground flax a day, usually in my morning cereal. My cereal has flax added to it and is very low sugar and no fat.
11 . I drink more water
12. I drink two large cups of Japanese Green tea each day.
13. I drink 2 oz, twice a day of Essiac tea that I make for myself. (read about this below)
14. I have a large garden and often eat right out of the garden. I had peas and broccoli and tomatoes when available daily. If not available from my garden, I buy them. I try to eat one tomato a day or the juice of a tomato.
15. My supplements consists of:
2000 iu of D3 (the most important of all) taken at bet time,
500 mg of buffered, time-release C,
500 mg of pomegranate concentrate,
600 mg calcium,
1000 mcg of B-12 every other day,
500 mg of Flush-free Niacin at bed time,
1000 mg of Omega-3 fish oil, taken twice a day.
Essiac Tea
I learned about Essiac from a medical doctor in Arlington Texas where I live. He is taking it for his prostate cancer. He learned of it from a minister. I have talked to the minister and heard his story: In 1996, he was diagnosed with advanced stage IV prostate cancer that had metastasized in his spine. He was given about 6 weeks to live. He announced this to his friends. That same day, a church member showed up with some Essiac Tea for him to drink. He continued to drink it and within 6 months an MRI showed his cancer was gone. He is now fully retired at age 76 with no cancer but still drinks his Essiac tea each day.
I have read a number of articles about the tea on the internet and found others that are using it. There are many testimonials on the internet of its curative powers. I have drunk about 4 gallons of it at 4 oz a day and will continue to drink it.
I have a brother that has stage III prostate cancer and recently had his prostate removed. He is also drinking Essiac tea and following a diet similar to mine. When he went to buy Essiac the first time, he found a lady that was told to drink it by her medical doctor. She had breast cancer. She believes the Essiac tea cured her cancer. I read one testimonial on the internet of a retired Marine officer that has what is known as Agent Orange disease. He had about given up hope that anything would make him better, but Essiac tea did.
Both the governments of U. S. and Canada have studied it to determine if it can harm a person. Both concluded it probably will not harm any one, with one exception. Persons that have a tendency to develop kidney stones should not take it because one of the ingredients is know to cause kidney stones sometimes. The governments have not tested the tea against any diseases.

By all means try the cayenne; and I presume you're doing the saw palmetto and all the other herbals that can help reduce prostate size.
Consider mild infection possibilities too. Cayenne might help with infection but colloidal silver taken over a week, twice daily, about a tablespoon per dose could help with a possible infection.
Don't take too much time with remedies on that kind of PSA jump. Right there in Manhattan is Dr Nick Gonzales. Google him just using his name and his web site appears. Gonzales will test to see if there are any indications of tumor growth and would treat you with nutrients/ glandulars and enzymes... Part of his program but the most important is he'd put you on "pancreatin" to deal with the tumor (that is part of the protocol). And a lot of it. Gonzales is non invasive but if you have the results of a needle biopsey that would help. The more info the better. But if this were me, and in fact it was me, six years ago, I'd forego the regular medical and go to Gonzales. And his program does not only deal with the single issue. What he does for you will help the entire system... I mean "whole body" system.

12/10/2006: D wrote Ted again: "My father has been taking your lemon-bicarbonate formula for 20 days and also some (little) potassium bicarbonate and citric acid. You remember that the doctor told him he had prostate cancer, his PSA level were extremely high. He also has been taking for three months some pills that the doctor gave him and an injection every three months, a sort of hormone suppressant. Well he just tested and his PSA is normal. The doctor was surprised and told, I quote: "so it was not cancer but just an infection". What I understand from his word that their medicines are not supposed to do this, so I really think it was the lemon-bicarbonate plus potassium that worked, we hadn't even started the cesium yet! Thank you so much Ted, D.
Soy
If you don't believe me that soy is good for you, you don't have to! You can prove this for yourself! I will tell you how! The secret is here.
Do this: go to www.pubmed.org and do a search using the following keyword as follows:
- soy cancer
- soy dht
- soy testosterone
- soy estrogen
- soy osteoporosis
You will then learn the truth and you don't even have to believe me. I have done this for you already, and here are the summaries in case you don't have time! True information that I will post the research citations verbatim directly from research studies as follows:
1. DHT hormones (dihydrotestosterone) are the major cause of male hormone baldness. When lack of testosterone does not generate that much DHT stays on your head. The only known substance to reduce that is DHT.
2. Phytoestrogen has no effect on estrogen levels or hormone levels or even testosterone.
3. Soy helps with osteoporosis.
4. Soy reduces cancer and is used to treat cancer victims.
I will post the medical abstracts verbatim below.
Now the reason why such a relentless attack on soy is that there are ulterior motives from certain interest groups such as
1. Decreasing milk cows sales.
2. the use of genetically modified cows
3. the use of bovine growth hormones injected into cows which we drink and may cause obesity
4. The prevalence of mad cow's disease
5. The findings of a chemical toxins and toxic vaccines and might be found in cow's milk.
I am an Asian, here where I live we actually consume more soy milk then even fermented soy products. And it has kept us relatively low of osteoporosis.
Because of so much bombardment against soy, I will not put any thing here besides research abstract below. Ted"
Nope: soy does not effect testosterone:
Serum prostate-specific antigen but not testosterone levels decrease in a randomized soy intervention among men.
Maskarinec G, Morimoto Y, Hebshi S, Sharma S, Franke AA, Stanczyk FZ.
1Cancer Research Center of Hawaii, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI, USA.
Background: Low prostate cancer incidence and high soy intake in Asian countries suggest a possible protective effect of soy foods against prostate cancer. The goal of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility of a randomized, crossover soy trial among men and to investigate the effects of daily soy intake on serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and testosterone levels. Methods:We randomized 24 men to a high or a low soy diet for 3 months. After a 1-month washout period, the men crossed over to the other treatment. During the high soy diet, the men consumed two daily soy servings; during the low soy diet, they maintained their usual diet. During the entire study each man donated four blood samples and five overnight urine samples. Dietary compliance was assessed by soy calendars, 24-h dietary recalls, and urinary isoflavone excretion measured by high-pressure liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection. Blood samples were analyzed for serum testosterone and PSA by radioimmunoassay. When necessary, variables were log transformed. Two sample t-tests compared the two groups before each study period. Mixed models incorporating the repeated measurements were used to evaluate the effect of the soy diet on urinary isoflavone excretion and serum analytes.Results:Twenty-three men aged 58.7+/-7.2 years completed the study. The compliance with the study regimen was high according to self-reported soy food intake and urinary isoflavone excretion. No significant between-group and within-group differences were detected. During the high soy diet, dietary isoflavone intake and urinary isoflavone excretion increased significantly as compared to the low soy diet. A 14% decline in serum PSA levels (P=0.10), but no change in testosterone (P=0.70), was observed during the high soy diet in contrast to the low soy diet. Conclusion:The high adherence as shown by three measures of compliance in this pilot trial demonstrated the feasibility of an intervention based on soy foods among free-living men.European Journal of Clinical Nutrition advance online publication, 14 June 2006; doi:10.1038/sj.ejcn.1602473.

Osteoporosis prevention education programme for women. Chan MF, Ko CY.
School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Hong Kong SAR, China. [email protected]
AIM: This paper reports an evaluation of a nurse-initiated education programme on four specific osteoporosis prevention behaviours which led to their adoption or to positive attitude changes.
BACKGROUND: In the past, osteoporosis was a serious health concern that most commonly affected women in Northern Europe and the United States of America, but was less commonly seen in Asian women. However, in Hong Kong, osteoporosis is currently among the top five conditions causing disability and prolonged hospital stay for older people. From an economic perspective, the most cost-effective approach is to focus on primary prevention via education, and nurses often have the responsibility of providing such educational programmes.
METHOD: A randomized controlled study was conducted from July 2004 to March 2005 with 76 women (38 cases and 38 controls) recruited in two private beauty clinics in Hong Kong. Pre-, post- and follow-up education data were compared regarding attitudes and adoption frequency before and after the education programme. RESULTS: The results showed statistically significant increases for each behaviour: consumption of soy foods (P < 0.001), milk (P < 0.001), more exercise (P = 0.01) and vitamin D/exposure to sunlight (P < 0.001) for the case group compared with the control group. Most participants either disagreed (n = 15, 39.0%) or strongly disagreed (n = 23, 61.0%) that there was not enough information provided in the education programme to motivate them to change. They rated the nurse's performance as either satisfactory or very satisfactory on presentation, ability to answer their questions and ability to describe each behaviour clearly.
CONCLUSION: Although positive results with a nurse-initiated education programme were demonstrated, future research examining the effects of education and occupation on these four adoption behaviours should focus on more diverse populations with respect to age, income or ethnicity. The findings suggest the value of creative approaches in future health education for the prevention of osteoporosis, and the need for a critical appraisal of current strategies and a re-evaluation of services and funding.

A rat study confirms improved bone when fed with soy
Soy affects trabecular microarchitecture and favorably alters select bone-specific gene expressions in a male rat model of osteoporosis.

We have recently reported that soy isoflavones particularly when provided in the context of soy protein are capable of preventing loss of bone mineral density due to orchidectomy in F344 rats. We hypothesize, that soy isoflavones also exert beneficial effects on bone microstructural properties, in part, by enhancing bone formation. Therefore, in the present study, we examined the dose-dependent effects of soy isoflavones on femoral bone microarchitectural properties and select bone-specific gene expressions in the same rat model. Seventy-two, 13-month old rats were either orchidectomized (ORX; 5 groups) or sham-operated (Sham; 1 group) and immediately placed on dietary treatments for 180 days. Four of the ORX groups were fed either casein- or soy protein-based diets each with one of two doses of isoflavones either 600 or 1200 mg/kg diet. Rats in the remaining ORX control and Sham groups were fed a control casein-based diet. Soy protein at the high isoflavone dose, and to a lesser extent with the lower dose, reduced the magnitude of the ORX-induced decreases in trabecular bone volume (BV/TV) and trabecular number (Th.N) and increase in trabecular separation (Tb.Sp) at the femoral neck site. These modulations of trabecular microstructural properties by isoflavones may be due to increased mRNA levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), collagen type I (COL), and osteocalcin (OC), which are associated with enhanced bone formation. These findings confirm our earlier observations that the modest bone protective effects of soy isoflavones are due to increased rate of bone formation.

Soy reduces dangerous DHT that causes you to go bald But yet had no effect on good hormones!

Soy protein isolates of varying isoflavone content exert minor effects on serum reproductive hormones in healthy young men.

Department of Human Biology and Nutritional Sciences, University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario N1G 2W1, Canada.
Inverse associations between soy and prostate cancer and the contribution of hormones to prostate cancer prompted the current study to determine whether soy protein could alter serum hormones in men. Thirty-five men consumed milk protein isolate (MPI), low-isoflavone soy protein isolate (SPI) (low-iso SPI; 1.64 +/- 0.19 mg isoflavones/d), and high-iso SPI (61.7 +/- 7.35 mg isoflavones/d) for 57 d each in a randomized crossover design. Twenty-four-hour urine samples indicated that urinary isoflavones were significantly increased by the high-iso SPI relative to the low-iso SPI and MPI. Serum collected on d 1, 29, and 57 of each treatment revealed that dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and DHT/testosterone were significantly decreased by the low-iso SPI [9.4% (P = 0.036) and 9.0% (P = 0.004), respectively] and the high-iso SPI [15% (P = 0.047) and 14% (P = 0.013), respectively], compared with the MPI at d 57. Other significant effects included a decrease in testosterone by the low-iso SPI relative to the MPI (P = 0.023) and high-iso SPI (P = 0.020) at d 29; an increase in dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate by the low-iso SPI relative to the MPI at d 29 (P = 0.001) and relative to the MPI (P = 0.0003) and high-iso SPI (P = 0.005) at d 57; and increases in estradiol and estrone by the low-iso SPI relative to the MPI at d 57 (P = 0.010 and P = 0.005, respectively). In conclusion, soy protein, regardless of isoflavone content, decreased DHT and DHT/testosterone with minor effects on other hormones, providing evidence for some effects of soy protein on hormones. The relevance of the magnitude of these effects to future prostate cancer risk requires further investigation.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the effects of diets rich in soy and linseed compared with a control diet on biochemical markers of prostate cancer in men diagnosed with prostate cancer. METHODS: Twenty-nine men diagnosed with prostate cancer and scheduled to undergo a radical prostatectomy were randomized to one of three groups: soy (high phytoestrogen), soy and linseed (high phytoestrogen), or wheat (low phytoestrogen). A bread was specially manufactured to incorporate 50 g of heat-treated (HT) soy grits or 50 g of HT soy grits and 20 g of linseed as part of the study participant's daily diet. Baseline and preoperative levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), free PSA, testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin, free androgen index, and dihydrotestosterone were measured. RESULTS: Statistically significant differences were detected between the HT soy grits group and the control wheat group for the percentage of change in total PSA (-12.7% versus 40%, P = 0.02) and the percentage of change in free/total PSA ratio (27.4% versus -15.6%, P = 0.01); and between the HT soy grits group and the HT soy grits and linseed group for the percentage of change in free androgen index (16.4% versus -15.5%, P = 0.04) and the percentage of change in free/total PSA ratio (27.4% versus -10%, P = 0.007). CONCLUSIONS: The data from this study indicate that a daily diet containing four slices of a bread rich in HT soy grits favorably influences the PSA level and the free/total PSA ratio in patients with prostate cancer. This work provides some evidence to support epidemiologic studies claiming that male populations who consume high phytoestrogen diets have a reduced risk of prostate cancer development and progression.

Genistein and daidzein downregulate prostate androgen-regulated transcript-1 (PART-1) gene expression induced by dihydrotestosterone in human prostate LNCaP cancer cells. Yu L, Blackburn GL, Zhou JR.
Nutrition/Metabolism Laboratory, Department of Surgery, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02215, USA.
Epidemiologic investigations and laboratory studies suggest that bioactive soy phytochemical components may be used as an effective dietary regimen for prevention of prostate cancer. Studies designed to identify new genes that are responsive to androgens and are sensitive to the prevention of prostate cancer using soy bioactive components have become a research priority. In this study, we determined the effect of soy isoflavones on the expression of prostate androgen-regulated transcript 1 (PART-1), a newly discovered androgen-induced gene that may represent a novel androgen-dependent prostate cancer tumor marker. In an androgen-depleted cell culture system, 5alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) induced expression of PART-1 transcript in androgen-sensitive LNCaP, but not in androgen-independent DU 145 or PC-3 human prostate cancer cells. The soy isoflavones genistein and daidzein dose-dependently inhibited DHT-induced expression of the PART-1 transcript. Genistein at 50 micro mol/L completely inhibited expression of the PART-1 transcript in LNCaP cells induced by DHT at 0.1 and 1.0 nmol/L. Daidzein was less potent than genistein, whereas glycitein at the same levels as genistein or daidzein did not inhibit DHT-induced PART-1 transcript expression. Our studies suggest that use of the PART-1 gene as a biomarker for evaluating the efficacy of soy isoflavones on androgen-dependent prostate cancer warrants further investigation.

Relative to your uncle's cancer and the use of baking soda to treat; go on line to "Youtube Dr. Simoncini baking soda cancer" and you'll find some sites that can describe what he does and others do to treat. As I understand, the baking soda must be applied to the site of the cancer. In one case a doctor who used the protocol already had a port to be used to feed chemo into and the doctor replaced with baking soda. The spread of the cancer to hard to reach places will be a problem. But I don't know if drinking the soda in water is going to be enough to turn around the situation. Best is to find a doctor who does this protocol...Simoncini himself, for instance.

Next test 4wks later 4. 1Sent me to a oncologist who says I must have a few cells left behind. Will this soda and molasses remedy kill off the last of the cancer cells since the doctor is not sure where the cancer cells are right now? Can you use something besides molasses or is there something with better taste. I'm also diabetic. Thank you Bob

How are you now?
my prostate cancer has metastasized locally.
P SA kept doubling this year after a biopsy. From 75 to over 1000. So I decided my five years of alternative remedies weren't working so am now on hormone therapy. I would like to give the soda and molasses a go.
What is the difference between soda and powder?
I have bicarbonate of soda in a 10 kg drum.
all the best.

Chilli definitely helped me, and was working very well for roughly 2 week, after that the affect wore off :'(. My body seems to have become accustomed to it now. Perhaps I should have been more aggressive!
The pains have been moving through my abdomen, and now into my hip.. that started after a big flare up from eating ripe bananas. It really loves the sugar. No matter, my Kombucha is still working well, and I am getting better at identifying foods that feed this (sugar and cheese are the worst). I have also learnt by observation that the Kombucha I take needs to be nice and sour, and that the first ferment stage works best.

Anyway... I would think that being a tyrosine inhibitor, it would do exactly what it did to your dog, but the curious thing is that a medicine called Gleevec (anti-leukimia and other types of cancer treatment) did the opposite to the patients being treated, it darkened their gray hair---this drug is precisely a tyrosine kinase inhibitor---
Sorry if I got too technical!!! LOL but I just thought it was pretty interesting... And I don't now if supplementing with tyrosine would render the turmeric mute :S
Redhead lab sounds pretty cool anyway :) good luck!
