I was browsing the Internet for anything that would help my Ulcerative Colitis. I have had it for about 10 years (I may not have it any more though ;-) ). The thing that worked for me was Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS). Most people are skeptical because of the word "Miracle", but I highly recommend it. "Don't knock it, until you've tried it." It's basically Sodium Chlorite / Chlorine Dioxide. You may want to do a little bit of research, but it wasn't that bad for me at all. I would go into details, but it takes about 20 pages to describe. I have a log online. If you want the log, just contact me and I'll send you the URL.

I can eat virtually anything I want (I'm still getting used to being normal again). The "treatment" took about 2-3 months, but I feel BRAND NEW!!!!

EC: Yep, we're hearing a lot of great things about MMS, especially from Joyce.

Hello Matt, You can google Miracle Mineral Supplement and download the first half of Jim Humble's book for free, it has a nominal fee for downloading the 2nd half of his book. He is a very interesting guy and his long time persistence in trying to get this information out to the general public is to be commended. It is rather lenghy but interesting reading.

For a short summary of how it works and what it does, you can pull up the reference that mentions MMS - "no miracle, just wonderful chemistry". I think this fellow's site calls himself the Phaelosopher.

Have fun reading.

Well, it turns out I may have spoken a bit too soon or went off of it a little bit too soon. I have been having a few issues lately. Either way, I am back on the MMS again and now I'm not sure if the effects are Herxheimer or UC now.

Also, I reread the MMS protocol again and it turns out I never actually finished the entire process. So, I attribute this second coming to that. I only did the 15 drops about 5 times total. It turns out, you're supposed to do the 15 drops twice a day for an entire week.

I'm not sure if the URL will get cut or not, but the log is at:

Quoting myself from 09/09/2008. It turns out the MMS did NOT really do the trick for me. I'm still ailing, but I've further found that most of the time the changes are due to stress. It may be different for many others, but for me that seems to be it.

Hello,

I saw your post and would like to receive your log. I have started mms few months ago on and off after I completed 21 days 1000 protocol. Recently I was feeling that some infection starts so I took 6 drops and after an hour 6 drops again. The next day I took 6 activated drops once and then continued with an hourly 3 drops for 7 doses. Now my legs hurt so much I can barely lie down. Please tell me what I can do to feel good again? Thank you.

Oscillococcinum is very effective for me for any flu like issues and works on headaches too. A bath would help you with some water and lemon, orange or pineapple. You could add some epsom salts if you have them or even a bit of baking soda might help. The bath takes water out of the body and fingers shrivel....so you drink water while soaking. The bath tricks the brain to shrink the pain signals. Get some music and a candle and soak a while. It makes the brain think the pain is coming from the body of water and not the legs. I ruptured l-5 and this was my go to pain relief for over a year. You could use milk thistle or activated charcoal to detox you of your die off symptoms. Molybdenum might help if you have any on hand. ginger with lemon or either or both. I am just giving you tips....not all of the above. Baking soda in water might help you get neutralized. Read the box for instructions.

I was diagnosed with UC 2 weeks ago. I've had this on and off for several years and have done a good deal of reading on this subject and it's causes, treatments, and cures (which so far none is know, but there are lots of things to try). I just started on Lialda a few days ago and have had some really severe cramping with constant "d" which I think is referred to as a flare on most of the internet.

As for the cause of UC, at this point after a good deal of reading on the net and watching a PBS program, I'm inclined to think that UC might just be a case of various severe food allergies as it's basis. I found doing/taking 4 things helped with the cramping, 1)& most important to stop all gluten & dairy & reduces other foods that cause "d" within 30 min of eating them, 2) a(1) hi potency probiotic; 3)30 min later "2" 500 mg of Quercetin & 4) 2 hr later a packet of the Rx Cholestyramine (it's an old Rx for stopping "d", that works for me. So for right now, that regiment stops my cramping and "d"for the rest of the day.

Also today, 2nd day of taking Lialda, my Dr.told me to cut back to 1 Lialda every other day, that they might be too strong for me (Important....I read, do not cut them to take 1/2 half a tablet or half a dosage, that will not work) Also, today, I talked with my health food store, (Sprouts, in east county of San Diego) told me about their client who had used the herbal mushroom Chaga who had very good and dramatic results with this UC. Since I'd researched, read, & taken Chaga in the past I was not worried about taking it and decided it give it a try to see if it would help me with my UC. Today I took 1 Chaga at about 3pm and it had dramatic results within in 30 min, on the physical, energy and cognitive level(fog lifted). I'm not recommending this, I'm just saying that it worked (so far) for me. Hopefully this helps some others.

This post is 3-4 days after my above post. 1st I wanted to say that I've been suffering with uc since aprox.2001. Sadly like lots of people I tried to convince myself that this would all go away, given a bit of time. Even after my 1st colonoscopy in 2005 and an expensive trial and failure of Ascol, I had trouble facing this was going to have to be ongoing diet, meds and self care for the rest of my life. I kept lying to myself telling myself that I could eat just a bit of this or that and be OK. Well as I've learned the hard way, that was just my way of "playing like an Ostrich" in other words, just hiding my head in the sand and thinking that if I could not see the problem, it would just go away. Well, as many of us have learned the hard painful way, that is just not going to happen unless we are willing to bit the bullet, so to speak and grab hold of the reins and start trying to work on getting better. That means a lot of reading, research and trying new paths, when the old ones no longer work. That's the background, here are some things I'm currently doing.....

To give a full picture of what is working for me and what is not working, especially for the new person just trying to figure out how to handle uc, I wanted to add that I also am on a specific diet of no dairy, no gluten, no fats, & no sugar.

Basically I eat boiled egg whites and a few berries for breakfast, for lunch I eat low nitrate and low salt white turkey breast with some mustard, some pineapple and some strawberries and baked sweet potatoes and I drink only boiled water with some organic lemon juice and dinner is a baked sweet potato and a few sugar free popsicles. For right now, that's all that I can eat and not have the bloating and instant "d" and severe cramping. But that alone will not work without the other things I'm doing.

Also, due to foggy thinking I accidently took Lialda 1 more day, (even though my Dr. told me not to....goes to show people need to have someone else over the control of your drugs or you need to tape notes to the med bottle & write things down in a notebook as you do them). So sadly, that makes 3 dosages of Liada in 3 days. That's a low amount for what others take, but it was a lot for me. That 3d dosage of Liada brought more sheer misery with severe abdominal cramping, severe pain in my shoulder and neck joints and took away any energy I had to the point I could barely walk from my bed to the bathroom and to honest just felt like I was going to die during the cramping. For 3 days, since the 1st day I took Lialda, the pain, cramping, & mental fog & loss of energy had progressively gotten worse, so I had no question that all that was caused by the Lialda. So late on day 3, I made the decision to quit taking Lialda as I felt it was poisoning my body or at very least my body was reacting severely against Lialda.

I was and am thinking that I can still keeping the UC under control by taking probiotics (2x a day) and Quercetin (herbal inflammatory)(2 500mg caps every 6hrs at the same time I take an OTC allergy meds, "Equate") and the anti diarrheal Rx Cholestyramine (2 every 12 hrs). I am also taking 1x a day, Chaga mushroom caps, as I think that is killing off any infection. Note I do take all of these alone (at different times of the day) when I've eaten nothing for the previous hour. I don't know if this will be important for anyone, but since I'm very blood sugar sensitive, I eat something every hour. As long as this regiment keeps working I'll continue on it without Lialda, until I see my Gastro. Dr. and then we'll see what he has to say.

I'll post again as changes occur.

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis via biopsy during colonoscopy. I am allergic to the drug used to treat UC and was advised by regular MD there was nothing they could do. Dr said if I didn't find a way to get it under control on my own I only would last about 5 years. After bleeding internally for 1.5 years going a D.O., ARNP, DC & acupuncturist, helped me get it completely under control.

Here is how: Chiropractor found I was highly intolerant to wheat, that was the first I eliminated. so no wheat, no gluten.

Further food logs revealed no more dairy either. There are other foods that I found as triggers & I avoid them and the regimen I take daily is:

4 probiotics a day they also contain a yeast cleanse this is crucial. I get them from AST enzymes on line. When I tried to take less I found myself catching the colds and flu bugs everyone else was getting. At this dose I seem to never catch what everyone else is getting.

I tried every other brand of probiotics and was super sick due to the dairy. Also tried non-dairy I ordered on line but didn't work.

I drink psyllium husk this is a bulking fiber it helps sweep the intestines and keep bowels regular

I take omega 3 every day to reduce inflammation

I take Quercetin 500 mg a day this is to help with the allergic components.

I eat whole foods only and very little processed foods such as gluten free bread. Very little meat as it causes inflammation. Drs. said no pork although I do cheat and eat a small amount here and there. Eating alkaline foods and no acidic foods is very important

It is highly likely you may have a yeast problem which was confirmed for me in a stool sample. In order to get rid of it you have to eliminate sugar and take the probiotic yeast cleanse I mentioned earlier.

A food log is the best way to start. Aloe Vera juice did not help me nor did a lot of the other over the counter natural things. To a speedy recovery!

St: Nice to hear your success! If I may suggest some additions.

First, as for the fiber; it would surely be an improvement expanding your fiber to more types as psyllium is good yet restricted in results. I mix a combination of Psylium-Pectin-Wheat or Oat fiber for full spectrum effect. The pectin will remove any possible radioactive isotopes which can reek major havoc in even very small amounts from sources like dairy foods, iodine deficiency, and radon found in homes particularly basements and cellars. Wheat & Oak fiber have the remarkable ability to manufacture Butyric Acid which is a major fuel source for the cells of the colon.

Second, as for the inflammation, many folks have reported good results for UC by taking Turmeric. Turmeric is particularly powerful anti-inflammatory but also is one of the most broad-spectrum beneficial herbs on the planet.

Third, to increase the efficiency of probiotics, it is advised to predose w/ antibiotics herbs like Garlic, Oregano, Olive Leaf, Neem, Grapefruit seed. After killing gut pathogens w/ these herbs, this frees up the probiotics to "populate" the gut.

Speaking of gut flora, do be sure to get enough Vit-K rich foods like green foods like Spirullina, Chlorella, Wheat & Barely Grass. Many people are starting their day w/ "green smoothies". These vitamin K rich foods help the body manufacture probiotics naturally. FOS is also used as a pre-probiotic w/ good results.

Try slippery elm capsules for all intestinal issues. Take at least 2 capsules with a full glass of warm water about one half hour before all meals. They are not expensive, just make sure its a good brand. Slippery elm will coat stomach and intestines. No side effects.

For UC, I have used probiotics with co q10, turmeric, and many people are dehydrated and don't realize it so pedialyte ( check with your doctor on amount). And, a vegetarian diet. Our diets are very acidic. Hope this information is helpful. Also, peptobismol has healing properties for stomach and intestinal ulcers. A seven day treatment. Again, check with your family physician. Many doctors are not into natural remedies and just write a prescription that has more side effects than worth taking. A simplistic life style with lowered stress if possible.

Hi everyone! I've had this uc for almost 7 years with very severe symptoms. I've been hospitalised for several times and had bood transfusion etc. I tried all the remedies on this website and from other websites and book etc. I was on very strong medications... Now I am not taking any medicine. I am not cured though yet but it is under control. I would like to give you some of the informaiton that I used to treat my UC. I just would like you to let me khow if they work for you then I will give you more information and remedies. These are the remedies I used:

1. Fresh lemon juice with a glass of warm water and a table spoon of honey half an hour before any meal, specially on an empty stomach.

2. Boil 2 spoons of dry deel with 2 cups of water until it left only one cup and then drink it when it is warm with a tps of honey every morning and every night ( do this specially when you have white tong)

3. Cut done all the unhealthy foods, junk foods etc

4. Use zinc in your apple juice drink every day

5. If you buy fruit juice from the market, make sure they are not added sugur or preservetive.

6. Take a one month fresh grape juice diet (drink one cup only grape juice every one hour but nothing else)... I did this only for 2 days and it seemed to be working but I was not too determined to continue.

Plz let me know the result if somebody goes for more days. Good luck

Hello everyone! I've had Colitis/Proctitis since 2005. I suddenly got very ill one day and since then my digestive system has never been the same. Blood, Mucous, Loose Stools, Constipation, Smelly, Cloudy (sorry, just want to be precise). Along with the UC, just my facial skin and scalp have become oily and I get these awful plugs (either keratin or something) that come out of my hair follicles. My skin also becomes dry eventhough it looks oily. It's strange and I hate it. It gets itchy. . . I've also had test done through urine, that showed a toxin for C. Diff and mercury (normal was 3 and I was a 7). Anyways, I do believe my digestive system is the cause of all of this. I've always had alittle dry skin but since my UC problems arose so has the skin issues. My also extremely tired all the time and can't gain wieght like before. My joints and bones hurt, it's weird. So, I do take meds for this. Lialda and Canasa, one is oral, the other a suppository. Does not do much.

I've tried many natural treatments. Right now, I'm also taking aloe vera juice 1-2 times a day, lugols iodine (6 drops) 2 times a day, and alot of glutamine 2-3 times a day. Also, I do take the baking soda by itself 1 time a day about 5 times a week. I did it with limes, but it makes me go even more. I tried the magnesium pills too but that does not go well with my colitis and I tried low doses. I do use magnesium spray though. With the baking soda, If I do 2 times a day I feel like it makes me go to the bathroom alittle more. . . However, I notice the baking soda has helped with my ear wax problem. The inside of my ears also get oily and some wax may build up, but the baking soda clears that. Wonder what that could mean? If I stop the baking soda for 2 days, it gets oily again in my ears. It doesn't clear up my face or hair though. I've tried applying directly to my face also, but too drying! So, I think my digestive issues have to be solved for everything else to get better! What in God's name can I do? This is horrible. I can't work out cause I'm to weak and my body isn't getting the right nutrition b/c my UC. I know my immune system probably stinks! Maybe Ted can help or other people! I have tested positive for SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) alittle while back, but who knows how reliable that test is or what it means. There are periods where my UC does get better for a month and everythings perfect, then BAM its terrible again. It's an on/off switch!

Any help please??

Dear Freakzilla154,

Colitis, IBS, Crohn's disease, Ulcerative colitis are just names of infections of the bowels. Like an infection of a kidney can give you kidney failure, an infection of the bowel gives us all what I like to call bowel failure ( Colitis, IBS, Chron's disease, Ulcerative colitis, Ulcers, you name it). To reach your health again, you have to treat the infection causing your bowel failure. The first big bug than can causes those bowel failures is bacterium avium, which most doctors misdiagnose. This bug will suppress the immune system and invade all your body including your bowels. You will feel extreme fatigue and bowel failure. What you can do to treat this bug is to take H2O2 therapy. You can also drink ozonated water 6 times a day to kill the bug. I have read that magnetic pulser can destroy this bug. You have to take also ionic silver or colloidal silver internally everyday in order for you to weaken the bacteria. Ted also said that borax also kills those mycoplamas. Since your immune system is suppressed by this bacteria (AIDS like state is attributed to this bacteria), you have to take selenium, zinc, magnesium, potassium, 2000U VitD3, Vitamin B complex. You have also to ch-elate your mercury by EDTA or some humic acid or chlorella.

Candida also can be a cause, but Candida in many cases is just a symptoms of mycobacterium avium infection. Killing the mycobacteria will definitely kill the candida. Hope that will help you a bit

I have ulcerative colitis (UC) and have to take mesalamines everyday to keep it under control. I agree with Ted from Bangkok that UC is caused by bacteria related to the acidity or PH in the intestine. Thus, I am trying to increase the PH of my gut by increasing intake of magnesium. Things that I find helpful to minimize loose stools include: 1 tablespoon L-glutamine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning along with a capsule of B-complex vitamin and vitamin C to help increase absorption of the amino acid. 1 tablespoon of sweet dairy whey (this is different from whey protein) that some health food stores may carry. The sweet dairy whey helps me to be able to take magnesium supplements without getting the runs or diarhea everytime. I don't notice any difference when I take prebiotics (i.e.: FOS, Inulin) and probiotics (yogurt, acidophilus), but I take them nontheless as I figure it doesn't hurt to supplement them.

I felt compelled to share something that has been helpful for my daughter's U/C. We stumbled across it completely by accident when looking for a natural sinus infection cure. We purchased a box of Nature's Way Umcka Cold Care. We decided to go with the 'soothing hot drink-lemon flavor' option as it was slightly less expensive than the other forms of the product. Within 2 doses she started to show signs of intestinal relief. Initially, she did have one movement of passing a lot of mucous. After doing some reading on the ingredient in this product (Pelargonium sidoides), I would attribute that to the fact that it has expectorant properties to expel contaminated mucous. Within a couple of days, she was starting to have stools that were somewhat formed & only going to the bathroom 3 times a day. It seems that the history of P. Sidoides indicates that it was also used for intestinal ailments as well as respiratory ailments. I don't know exactly which properties (or maybe it's a combination of them all) makes it effective but it's cetainly worth a try.

We have tried so many natural things in order to minimize having to use pharmaceutical drugs & other drastic medical interventions (surgery, immunodepressants). This includes diet changes, acupuncture, supplements, Sangre De Grado, etc. Dealing with any of these horrible digestive diseases is a nightmare. I'm not saying this is a "cure-all" for U/C but maybe it can bring some relief to someone else out there that is suffering from this hellish disease. It's certainly worth a try. Good Luck!!!

Ulcerative Colitis: I have found the best way to safely and quickly kill off gut infections (without killing off the body's friendly bacteria) is to take high dose potassium iodide for a few days. This stuff is sold for use in case of radiation exposure, but potassium iodide safely kills off yeast, bacteria, fungus, viruses, and most parasites like giardia, etc. Take 100 to 120 mg (not mcg) on an empty stomach before going to bed and let it work its way through your intestines. Do for 3 days, once each evening, then wait 8 days and do it again (to catch any eggs that have hatched out). Iodide is very healing to the gut and should not exacerbate any conditions, though you may have a "die off" reaction if you have a massive infestation. I also recommend the GAPS diet for complete healing of the gut. I practically destroyed my gut using Flagyl etc, then restored it using the GAPS diet, and iodine/iodide. Now if I get any gut infection I take one 100 mg potassium iodide pill and it takes care of it in a couple hours. I have had no intestinal problems since. You can buy high strength potassium iodide on Amazon.com. Also, google "Iodine: the Universal medicine" for other good uses of iodine/iodide.

I've had colitis/proctitis for a year now. I got hit after an over-prescription of anti-biotics (thanks doc! ). As most of us know, big-pharma has a lot of shills in the medical field and most physicians are more interested in pushing synthetic chemicals onto their patients than identifying the root cause of a problem.

After I was diagnosed, I took a lot of pro-biotics in capsule form for a few months with no positive results. I tried several brands to see if one was better than another, but nothing helped. It was only after regular use of Kefir and Fage yogurts that I had any real improvement. I now have no more bleeding, firm stools, etc. This didn't happen overnight, but I noticed an improvement after about a month.

I've made my own yogurts and suggest others give it a try. This is a good way to 'test' those expensive probiotic capsules. My experience is that a tablespoon of good yogurt will create a great new batch, but a few capsules worth of the same probiotics won't create a good yogurt under the same conditions. I suspect a lot of bacteria in capsules is either dead or so dormant that it passes out of a person before it does any good. Previously I was no fan of yogurts, but I am now.

Just a follow up on this.......... Probiotics did the trick for four years, but I am having a bad flare up. I have been suffering for slightly over five weeks now, of increaed bathroom trips, blood, etc. I have upped my probiotic intake, but no luck.

I am researching the site now to try some potential remedies. I am trying to avoid steroids at all costs. I checked my pH level(based on my saliva) and it look to be in the high 6's -- hard to determine exactly with the strips that I am using. Any suggestions what to try first?

I am leaning towards Baking Soda plus water, just for convenience.

I've had ulcertative colitis for over 35 years and have been on medications of one sort or the other for most of that period. For about the last two years I've been either off all meds or have taken an off-label medicine (low dose naltrexone), that apparenty has no known side effects. I no longer feel like a colitis patient; my overall health, including my lipid panel (cholesterol) have improved markedly.

My disease has been mostly limited to the distal (towards the rectum) part of the colon. My GI doc treated me with prednisone (oral hydrocortisone), hydrocortisone suppositories (when my symptoms weren't so bad) or hydrocortisone enemas (when my symptoms were not bad enough to justify prednisone and not under control enough to justify the suppositories. I'm highly allergic to sulfa (azulfadine) and asacol and asacol like drugs (which have a sulfa molecule bound to aspirin in the case of asacol).

A colonoscopy in 2009 found that my disease had spread, for the first time, throughout the colon, yet my symptoms weren't all that bad; my GI doc suggested strong immunosuppressive medications which I didn't want to take.

Since my symptoms weren't that bad I decided to look for alternative treatments, which, have completely changed my life and my overall health for the better.

After diligent research on the web I tried these treatments which each has seemed to help. In combination, I now feel like a new person.

Probiotics - more is better. The ones you buy at the health food store mostly don't cut it. Look at VSL#3 (can be special ordered with a Rx at most pharmacies) which has 250Billion colonies per packet (I find the packet more effective than the tablets for some reason). VSL#3 has been clinically proven in peer reviewed studies to help colitis.

I also take Probiotics (search google) 11 strain probiotic powder and for a year I took a probiotic (hard to get in US but is sold over the counter in Canada and is manufactured in Germany). I found an alternative medicine doc who recommended and wrote an rx; a pharmacy in the US purchases this expensive probiotic from Canada where it is sold relatively inexpensively.

I took multiprobiotic in the AM before breakfast, VSL#3 before lunch and Probiotics before dinner or before bed.

I also saw an alternative care physician who recommended I eat a diet she called an 'anti inflammatory diet' where you consciously try to avoid sugar spikes in the blood. A book called 'Beating Cancer Though Nutrition' discusses the concept and many web sites are available to discuss what to do.

Briefly: eat protein first and avoid high glycemic carbs (see www.nutritiondata.com), avoid sugar, fructose etc.

My waist size dropped from 36 to 34 on this diet and the love handles that I lived with since my 20s on prednisone disappeared. My HDL went up (the good cholesterol) and my LDL went down (the bad cholesterol) and I looked and felt great.

With diet and probiotics I was able to significantly reduce the slight symptoms I had.

After about 6 months I ran across a diet called SCD diet (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) which I understand has helped thousands if not hundreds of thousands with colitis problems. I incorporated some of the ideas from this diet and made the decision to eliminate wheat from my diet. I believe I was getting a sub-clinical reaction to wheat consistent with what is called Leaky Gut Syndrome.

I lost more weight and felt even better after eliminating wheat. I would cheat a little bit, once in a while, but overall was wheat free.

I ran across the work of Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who promotes a diet similar to the one I was on for people with heart disease or who want to prevent heart disease proactively. I joined his Track Your Plaque program and read his book (today he has a book you can purchase from Amazon). I also embraced what is called a Paleo diet and the advice of a blogger named Mark Sisson. I don't eat as much meat as most Paleo people or Mark Sisson seem to, but otherwise am now on a Davis/Paleo/Sisson program.

My waist went from 36 to 32; I have a six pack. I weigh the same today as when I graduated college. I am fit, healthy and I eat as much as I want, whenever I want and I don't gain weight and I had almost no colitis symptoms.

In February 2011 I started to have some mild colitis symptoms; I wasn't taking any Rx meds for any condition at this time; strickly the program described above.

I sought out a local doc (San Francisco) who has incorporated a very small (one tenth the usual dose) of naltrexone, called LDN or Low Dose Naltrexone. LDN shows tremendous promise for treating MS, Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis, several cancers and basically any autoimmune disease; search google.

I started LDN in April of 2011 and my remaining colitis symptoms simply dissapeared and have been gone ever since. LDN is not something you take by itself; you need to employ other lifestyle changes; to me it was the last boost I needed to feel completely disease free.

In February 2012 I had another colonoscopy and the doc said I had very mild inflammation in the distal part of the colon and the rest of the colon looked normal. He said the inflammation I had was no big deal and I should keep doing what I'm doing.

As they say in the automobile advertisements: your mileage may vary. Overall, low glycemic eating is helpful for any autoimmune disease, weight loss without actually counting calories.

Hope this helps someone else.

Thank you for your extensive, informative post. The last 4 funerals I attended were of slim, athletic people so it got me thinking "what went wrong"? Hereditary disease? Stress? Inflammation? Dehydration? Artery Plaque? Colon malfunction? Yes, dietary change is paramount. I have begun my journey back to good health, discovered Earth Clinic, family think I'm crazy BUT I'm sleeping like a log, suffer fewer headaches and manage stress better. Thanks to EVERYONE, your posts change lives!

Dr. Atkins had good results w/ Pantothenic Acid or Pantothene (Coenzyme A) for U.C. I read that Glucosamine Glutamine is also good for repairing the gut.

What is your dose of LDN? 4.5mg was making me feel too weird.

Hi David,

With LDN, the least effective dose is the best. The higher the dose, the longer the endorphins are blocked. It is when the LDN leaves the system that you get the beneficial rebound effect of your body increasing the endorphins. You want to maximize this time by taking the lowest effective dose that will remain in your body the least amount of time and give you the longest time to benefit from the LDN after it has done it's work and left the body. Many people take 3 mg but I believe the least amount that can be effective is 1.5mg. You can even take it every other day with good results. See www.ldninfo.org and then join the Yahoo group mentioned on that site. There are many in that group who have the same problem as you, and can advise you about the dose, but I believe it is based on what works for each individual, and changing the dose to see what works best. For this, making the liquid version and withdrawing the amount you wish to take is more convenient than the capsules, and the group can advise you where to buy it in tablet form online from which you can make the liquid. You can also dissolve the contents of the capsules in distilled water to be able to control what dose you want to take. Best wishes.

I decided to try the raw vegan diet after years of nothing else working. Mostly fresh fruits and vegetables, sometimes steamed. Salads, smoothies, nuts, seeds, berries, srpouts... I'm pretty sure we're all talking about the same author, the one that comes up if you search for vegan and ulcerative colitis.

After a few months it was like I never even had UC. It was crazy, I hadn't felt so good in years, if not better. I only ate like that for about four months, then I adopted it into my own diet. It's been a year and a half and I'm still doing great. UC doesn't really affect my life anymore. No more medications, no more pain, no more being confined to an area with a nearby bathroom. If I do get a flare up, it's because I ate something I knew I shouldn't have. There are rare occasions where I will suffer for a food I miss eating (like fried stuff). I still eat a vegan diet, but maybe 60-70% of it being raw. I just love cooking too much. I see the raw vegan diet as a great way to heal your body, but I don't think it's sustainable for most people. You can use it to let your ulcers calm down and then incorporate large amounts of fresh, raw, organic produce into your own diet, which is much more doable for most people.

Recently I started having symptoms of Colitis (diarrhea, blood in stools, upset stomach, nausea, etc.) I did research on the net and found a web site where a man had colitis for 8 years, in and out of the hospital, almost had to get a colostomy bag. He decided to go "natural" and has been symptom free for 24 years. His secret: a raw foods vegan diet!!! I started the diet and my symptoms have gone away!! within 4 days I felt and looked better. I have lost 17 pounds in 1 month and feel great. I truly believe that a raw foods vegan diet is the answer to ulcerative colitis. Give it a shot and see for yourself!!!

Tamara, could you give me an idea on what you eat on your raw food diet? Also, what kind of protein do you substitute for meat? Thanks, Angie

I started a raw foods, vegan diet that is comprised of mainly fruits and vegetables. I will eat almond butter, brown rice, and almond or soy milk. I probably eat 80% raw vegetables and fruit, but I will steam vegetables sometimes. I also juice fruits and vegetables. The more you cook something, the more you are killing the nutrients your body needs. I also eat what is called an "organic food bar". These have 14 grams of protein in them, and I eat one of those a day. I also take an amino acid complex (derived from vegetable sources) daily, in the morn. on an empty stomach for better absorption.

If you can make it to a natural foods market, or even the library, you will be able to find info on a raw foods diet (also try online).

I just know this, that I have never felt better in my life than I do now after being on this diet. Hope that helps, and I am sorry that took so long, my computer was messed up and just got fixed.

I followed the same diet and my symptoms left me in about the same amount of time after a year of suffering. I ordered a book from a website (not sure I can post it here). The author claimed 100% success. It sounds like the same book.

Mohammed, I am sorry it took so long to get back to you. I haven't been on the website for quite a while. A raw foods diet has worked perfectly for me. As long as I continue to eat whole foods (fruits and vegetables) as the majority of my diet, then I am free from any symptoms. When I try to incorporate other foods into my diet (bread, sweets, any fast foods, etc.) my symptoms reappear. Staying on this raw foods diet is quite a challenge at times, but it is truly worth it. I can almost guarantee that your symptoms will disappear if you stick to it! Happy eating and God bless!

Ulcerative Colitis: I really wanted to let everyone know about the amazing benefits of following a raw juice plan for curing this condition... I recently watched a documentary where Jason Vale from super juice me spent 28 days with a group of people, all with chronic illnesses and diseases, ulcerative colitis included.... the guy who suffered with this had lost all symptoms by the end! Absolutely amazing... would urge anyone to watch the video, google super juice me...
