Hi everyone, I have a 2 year old female pitbul who has generalized demodex mange. Right now the worst part is her muzzle which has no hair and bleeds excessively if the dog is in stress. Other than that she has lost most of her hair on her under belly as well as on her legs. I have been struggling to find a cure for her since the last 4 months since her condition triggered as she went into heat in early May. Before that she had a few hot spots but since May she has had major issues. I started her on lime sulphur dips and they helped to control the mange on her body however since I applied the solution sparingly on her face , therefore that was the part that suffered the worst and lost all its hair. The vets in this country kept experimenting with various medicines including anti fungal tablets, ivermectin shots ( she has received 3 of those with only momentary difference ). She's been on antibiotics. Has had her food changed to check for food allergies. However in the end it has been determined that she is suffering from demodex even though the skin scrapings were negative. The vets dont trust the labs here. I read Ted's post and decided to try the borax and hydrogen peroxide solution. It so happened that after 24 hours of administrating this , her symptoms got so worse that I got scared and just gave her a bath and applied the lime sulphur dip. her face was totally swollen and so was her ear, the borax hydrogen peroxide had actually exascerbated the situation and made me get scared that Ihad to wash out the solution.
I am wondering if anyone else had a similar reacation. I used 3 tbs of borax powder in 500cc 3% h2O2 and 1000cc water.
Can anyone suggest what needs to be done next? I have tried one amitraz dip previously which also made her skin situation get worse and I discontinued.
I thought the borax h2o2 was safe. Then why did this happen. Please advise
Coco from Lahore; I can attest that this method has worked for me and many of my pets, is it possible that you did some thing wrong? or maybe the dog just simply had a negative reaction to the use of borax & peroxide? it takes a lot of care and attention to do these methods. You were very fortunate to have had a great vet to run to as here in the USA they are all money grabbers and meat heads. Good luck with your dog.
The h2O2 3% should be@1%... So H2O2 500cc to a 1 to 3 part ratio. 500cc h2o2 to 1500cc h2o and borax add it until it no longer dissolves. More is better than less. Let it dry and leave it.. The dog can shake but do not wipe it off.

I tried Ted's recipe for my dog Roxie after she was diagnosed with (noncontagious) mange. I couldnt believe it worked. I kept her crate blanket clean, and sprayed it with the vinegar-borax mixture and sprayed her every day with it as well, as teh other posters suggested. I also gave her weekly baths with it. I would shampoo her first and then pour the mixture over her, and really rub it into her bald spots. A natural cure that worked. It was cheap too. I found teh borax at Target, and the gallon of vingar was like $4 at the grocery store. I have to admit it took about a month for it to go away, but it definitely worked.
Hi I just started using this treatment. I used this twice so far. I've read that you Spray it too everyday!! I'm going to try that too. How do I know if it's working?

A stay in my backyard with my showpitt scared me because it was unreconizable as every inch was covered in mange. I moved my baby and shut the door. For the next three days I just kept hoping it would go away. I dont need to tell you it didnt leave... I feed it..... Kids named it...... Petted it with garbage bags on thier hands. I couldnt afford a vet so I found this site. Tried the cure I am amazed the difference is night and day we are ten days 2 treatments later she now has hair on her face and is feeling like a puppy. I appreciate this site that gave a puppy a chance to be a family member.
Thanks Ted for your advice our dog has had mange on and off for a couple of years, the vet treatment hasnt really worked , the last time the pour on stuff seemed to make her ill.!! Anyway ive been trying your formula, ive learned its best to find a good hand sprayer as sponging ect not as effective, vegetable oil seemed to help it moisturized the skin, and is non toxic I used this a couple of days after the borax treatment. Ive also changed her diet, adding two fried eggs, and rice to her tinned meat, before she had the complete dry food. Ive also put her on allergy tablets, at the moment she seems alot better, mange is such a difficult thing to shift, one thing I know is the borax treatment definitely helps, we will have to wait and see whether it works long term. i have tried hydrogen peroxide and borax solution to my dog's mange, it works for my german sheperd in just three wks, all of his bald spots are now covered with hair(but not totally grown long).. Lately ive discovered that his head is tilting and shaking his head most of the time (signs of ear mites)... So im just wondering if I can use this as a spray into his ears? is it safe?
I AM AT WITS END WITH MY KITTEN; I NEVER NOTICED THAT SHE HAD MANGE AS BAD IF NOT WORSE ON HER TAIL, IT SEEMS TO BE THE HARDEST PLACE TO TACKLE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE SHAVED HER TAIL.
THESE MITES ARE LONG/PROTRUDING AND APPEAR SHARP WHEN I RUN MY HAND OVER HER TAIL TO SEE IF ANY TREATMENTS ARE TAKING EFFECT IF ANYTHING. I THOUGHT HER UPPER BODY PARTS WERE TEDIOUS BUT THEY NOW SEEM EASY IN COMPARISON TO WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH RIGHT NOW.
I WAS JUST READING WHERE WE NEED TO DO THE SAME TREAT. AS ANIMALS TREATS. ALSO HUMAND AS WELL AS ANIMALS EYE LASHES AND EYE BROWS HAVE TO BE DONE? NOW THAT IS A NIGHTMARE IN ITSELF. I FOUND THIS TREATMENT BUT NOT SURE OF IT'S RESULTS(?) http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1203895-treatment
AGAIN I WAS READING UP ON DMSO WHERE YOU NEED TO WEAR HEAVY RUBBER GLOVES WHILE USING IT. THERE WAS A WOMAN THAT USED DMSO IN 1965 FOR A SPRAINED WRIST AND SHE DIED, BUT NO REAL OR ABSOLUTE THAT DMSO WAS THE CAUSE(?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_sulfoxide;
NOW THE REAL ISSUE IS WHAT CAN I DO FOR MY KITTEN? SHE HAS ALL BUT GIVEN UP, AND AS I SAID I'M AT WITS END. I WAS SERIOUSLY THINKING OF USING KWELL WHICH IS NOW OVER THE COUNTER ITEM.
I'm sorry for the extra large print on my other post, I didn't realize it was on caps.
Well here I am again still at wits end with my kitty, she still has mange plus an upper respiratory condition, her eye is always runny and closed most times, she coughs and sneezes constantly, one right after another, almost like seizures. I was thinking of giving her back to the owner as he has many other cats, I don't feel this cat has a whole lot of a chance much less time, I have two itchy dogs. Two cats that are segregated from all the pets, but that will not prevent the spread of this mange. I am having severe illness issues myself where motivation is becoming weaker & can no longer walk unless I use a wheelchair. I cry at the thought of having to give her up because I know she is happy here and has shown some improvements as to her continued vomitting when she ate, she no longer does that.
I am hoping against time & hope that some one can give me some input? Thank you so much in advance.
The kitty with the URI its called the herpes virus "cat Flu" I found that the cats response great to lysine. I use the powdered kind. An eighth of a teas twice a day sprinkled over their food. She may need some silver for infection also. You can this to her eyes bc the virus affected the eyes with infection.
This is Feline Herpes, but it is not cat flu. I never heard of that one. Feline herpes is not curable but it is managable. Any stress will make your kitten have an episode of this. I once had a cat with this. All of the cats that that man had are infected. It is spread very easily. A vet can prescribe some things for helping through the episode. Once your kitten gets stressed again it will happen all over again. And since he already has mites on top of it... it's not looking good for him right now.

Mange: can I apply borax and hydrogen peroxide to my dog when her forehead is so bad that its pussy and bleading? I'm scared that the borax will burn and open wound like salt does?
totos tribe; i found that my kitten was cured for months and i thought she was doing well, today i find she has more mange where i had missed her tail;this time i shaved her tail as she is very fluffy and i gave her a good dose of straight peroxide and borax, the saddest thing is she has an upper respiratory infection where it's almost impossible to treat therefore it makes her an easier opponent for any type diseases, i feel bad for her because she sleeps a lot and does not get the real quality time to be a kitten and play.
there are others using essential oils(peppermint oil--lavender oil) on their pets which is a severe case of not good for any animal it does severe damage to their liver. i'm sticking with ted's remedy because it does work well. in the past i have used mineral oil in my pets ears an haven't found any negative results as of yet. i wish you the best of luck and i do hope you don't give up on your pet. in the end the rewards are even greater. good luck ;o)

EVE; MY NUMBER ONE FEELINGS ARE VERY MUCH AGAINST GOING TO ANY VET PERIOD, THATS WHY I AM IN TED'S FORUM. I'M SORRY TO SOUND SO RUDE BUT I LOST A KITTEN BECAUSE OF A VET. SEVERAL FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAID THEIR ANIMALS WERE PUT TO SLEEP WITH NO ILLNESSES OR CAUSE TO DO SO, "VETS'HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXPERIMENT ON OUR ANIMALS/IF THEY DIE SHOULD THE VETS'OR GOV. CARE? THERE CAN NEVER BE A LAWSUIT. I HAVE FOUND THAT TED'S REMEDY IS HARMLESS OVER THE VETS. DECISION TO IGNORANTLY AND WITH INTENT TO EUTHANIZE OUR LOVING HARMLESS PETS. I'M NOT SURE WHAT KIND OF DISEASE AND/OR MITES MY KITTEN HAD BUT SHE WAS CLOSE TO DEATH WHEN I FOUND HER ROAMING THE STREETS AS A STRAY AND TED'S RESULTS SAVED HER LIFE, SHE HAS BEEN THE KITTEN SHE DESERVES TO BE, PLAYING ETC. I RECENTLY FOUND I HAD FAILED TO DO HER TAIL BECAUSE HER FUR IS SO LONG AND THICK BUT I PROMISE TO KEEP HER SAFE AND FREE FROM ALL DISEASES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO VETS. I SURE HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIND OUT THE SAD AWAKENING AS I HAD TO..... R.I.P. TO MY LOVING INNOCENT ZOEY

with all the pages ive read on this site I do pray that teds remedy for mange helps my poor dogs, especially the 16yo yorkie. she has been itching, scratching, pacing the floor, crying, barking almost non stop for over a month.
ill keep yall posted as to whether it helps her and my fiest and my 4 dogs outside. wish me luck.
Has anybody figured out what this guy's measurements mean?!! What the F?!!! Please make the measurements understandable. This is insane. Who's figured this out?!!!
I also do not understand these instructions. Please clarify: how much peroxide to use in tablespoons/cups.....and do you add the peroxide to the borax and THEN the water? Also, doesn't the peroxide bleach the hair?
Posted by Middlebunny (Jersey City, New Jersey) on 09/30/2011
I agree. I've had some difficulty interpreting Ted's instructions as well; however, I do eventually figure them out and can use them. It helps to read some of the other posts. People who have used Ted's remedies successfully sometimes clarify the instructions.
To the reader who questioned whether this remedy would bleach a dog's hair: I don't believe it is supposed to bleach it. A 6% H2O2 solution is typically used to bleach human hair so 3% hydrogen peroxide thinned out to a 1% solution should theoretically be fine. Despite this, I used a 1% H2O2 solution and I still had a problem. I mixed the 3% H2O2 with distilled water in a ratio of 1 part H2O2 to 2 parts H2O or 500ml H2O2 to 1000ml of H2O. To this solution, I dissolved 3 tablespoons of Borax. The day after using this on my black cocker spaniel; I noticed that his jet black hair had started to turn red (auburn). I've asked if this is supposed to happen; however, no one has responded to my post yet. I've concluded, on my own, that a 1% H2O2 (3% thinned with 2 parts of water) can still bleach pet hair while a 6% solution is necessary to bleach human hair. I deduced this because I tried spraying my own, dark brown hair, with the same solution used on my spaniel and could not see a color change on my hair. On my dog, the color change is dramatic. Clearly, reducing the 3% H2O2 to 1% by adding twice as much H2O, was insufficient to prevent the hydrogen peroxide from lightening my dog's hair. I'm now substituting the H2O2 with Apple Cider Vinegar using the same ratio: 1 part ACV to 2 parts Water. I just started this today. I hope it works without any side effects.
yes peroxide WILL change the color of the fur with regular usage. I had to use it on my cat and on the area I used it is a lighter auburnish color, she has all blavk hair, , but id rather a littlehair coloring than bugs on my baby.

I was thrilled to find Ted's mange remedy. My pet dog has mange and I think it's sarcoptic as I was getting the itchies also. I tried the rememdy and it is working. HOWEVER, in the first part of Ted's instructions, it says to use the solution "daily. " Later it says, 1X/week. Which is it?
Also, I found that it takes a lost less Borax to form a precipitate in hot water from the tap. If I first boil the water, it takes a lot more Borax to form a precipitate. Should I not boil the water first but just use hot water from the tap?
Another thing, my dog likes to lay next to me or on me when I am in bed. I have been finding what feels like grains of sand on my skin. It's not the Borax. Could these be eggs? They are very hard and very tiny. I don't know what color they are as I have yet to see one they are so tiny.
I'd like to thank you Ted for your most innovative and helpful remedy for mange.

About Theresa
Theresa from Minneapolis was born and raised in the inner city, always wishing she had been raised on a farm.
Her love for creatures great and small began at an early age, starting with caterpillars - which continues to this day, along with an interest in all insects and 'creepy crawlies'.
Theresa's interest in pet health started with a bird keeping hobby at age 14, where she learned from another hobbyist that the simple addition of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in a bird's drinking water kept fungal infections away; she was able to share this with her avian vet who in turn prescribed it to her own clients; Theresa was surprised to learn that she could teach her vet a thing or two. This important lesson - that each of us can be a teacher - was a turning point for Theresa, and fueled her quest for the knowledge held in lore, and remedies passed by word of mouth. That quest for knowledge continues to this day, as new and old remedies alike are explored. She may not have experience with a particular issue, but she will research it to the best of her ability and share what she finds freely, in the hopes that you can heal or improve your pet's health.

Borax laundry booster - the plain stuff with NO scent. 1 -16 oz bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide I get both of these from the grocery store.
Process:
Empty hydrogen peroxide into larger bottle - I use an empty 1 gallon vinegar jug. Add to this 32 oz filtered or distilled water - I just refill the hydrogen peroxide bottle twice - and dump into the jug. What this does is change your 3% hydrogen peroxide into 1% hydrogen peroxide. Next add 1 cup of the borax crystals and shake. There should be some undissolved crystals in the mixed solution - this is just right. I try to use hot water from the kettle on the stove, that or sit the jug of mixture in the sink full of hot water while I bathe the dog.
NEXT:
Bathe the dog - use whatever shampoo and rinse well. Squeeze out excess water and make sure the tub is drained. I then plug up the tub. Now pour the mixed up solution over the dog. I use a small sponge to soak up the solution from the bottom of the tub and squeeze it out onto the dog again and again, making sure I get the head and underneath. Keep squeezing solution over and over onto the dog for about 15 minutes - 30 minutes is better. Then pull the stopper from the tub and let the excess drain. DO NOT DRY THE DOG OR RINSE THE DOG. The solution has to remain wet as it is still working. Allow the dog to air dry. I just pop mine into their crates and I remove any absorbent bedding.
If you are worried about poisoning your dog keep in mind that borax has the same toxicity as table salt. The solution doesn't seem to hurt the eyes or sting any sores on the skin. Some dogs feel instant relief!
Dip the dog once per week for 1 month and up to 2; 8 dips should resolve the mange and if it does not, then you likely are not dealing with mange.

my 4 year old dog has demodex canis around her one eye. the vet has prescribed a months treatment of Iverkol taken orally, as well as Bovitraz solution topically around the eye for one week. Will the borax and hydrogen peroxide work in this case? can it be administered around the eye area?

Hello to everyone... I've been having problems with my dog too.. Me & my husband got our pug when he was only 5 months old & we named him pogi which means handsome in English... After a month, I noticed that he have a bald spot on his back. I wasnt worried at 1st but it got worst as days goes by.. Long story short, I found out that our pug have demodectic mange. He is now 8 months old. I took him to 3 vets already and spent a fortune on medicines and his medicated dip every week. 1st week after his medicated bath, he was looking better. But after 3 weeks, his red spots came back and he starts to scratch like crazy again and its making me worry so much so I got him a dog cone & he looks miserable. His body is full of bumpy red spots like pimples. His skin turned black too. I didnt wanna see the poor dog suffer anymore & spend a fortune visiting the vet and his medicines that doesnt seem to work.
I went online to research if there is a home remedy for his mange & I came across this website and read Teds mange cure. I went out and had to find borax but couldnt find it anywhere so I just ordered online and hopefully it will be here by tomorrow. I already bought hydrogen peroxide & a measuring cup. I read positive feedbacks from people that used the solution.. & I will definitely gonna try it to my dog and have our whole house disinfected using the solution.... I will post again soon...
does anyone knows how to post before & after picture here?
If you go to page 7 under this topic you'll see my before and after pictures of Ruff. It's been a while back but I believe I had to submit them to the owner or cantacted her first and got permission. As you can see it really helped him. The sad thing is he came back from the vets with this. I just took my mini border collie two weeks ago and he's never had one flea or chewed himself. He now has both. I so wish I'd never taken him for his shots and allowed them to put chemicals inside his little body. Rabie shots are all that's required and all he'll ever get again. That's why I'm here looking for a remedy for this. I feel so sorry for him. Good luck with your dog.
To enhance the exterior treatment of the Mange, strengthen the dogs immune system. The best way to do this is to take your dog off dry kibble and feed them strictly raw food diet for a few months. There are some very good suppliers who deliver the food frozen. You can make your own, but strictly follow a recipe designed by a vet, because the fat and vitamin balance is critical.
When I rescued my dog.... she got a raw food diet for 4 months and it converted a sad looking dog to a well muscled gleamingly healthy dog that looks much younger than she is.
Dear Ted, please accept my apologies for not being able to comprehend the exact formula/s. Could I ask that you would post them more plainer and no metric system involved. If you do not want to do this here, please email to me. I would be very thankful.
Secondly, is borax toxic to humans, such as your formulas here?

Hi ted few simple questions, you mentioned that one can use vinegar to replace hydrogen peroxide 1% with the Borax treatment for mite. Do I dilute it or use it as it is , and if so how much do I need. Is it as effective as h peroxide 1%. Ps would the h peroxide not slightly bleach the hair. Also can I may be use about 1/2 a cup of borax in the bath for the kids, may be with some lavender to ease possioble irittations , or would the borax be too harsh for their skin
We were infected few times over the years. The different treatment that worked from homeopathic (it was sulfur and cant spell the other one personium or somethinglike that), triphala , and permethirine , they would not work the second time round even at one point with a 3 year gap. this time we tried more permethitrine x 7 times , chinease tea and spregal spray and I became really ill after that treatment I did use that spray a few times on me
We also tried lot of other things like neem tea tree, salt, bleach( but only on me) , some indian oil , rosmary , mint, ext they only ease , however the lavender is great at stopping the itch.
alas this time round I have a severe allergic reaction to them, I have been suffering from urticaria and odiuma (swelling of eyes, mouth )ext great and taking lots of different anti histamin with marginal success , thats all my dermotolgest gives me. by the way has it effected anybody else like that.

Please help, My teacup yorkie has been suffering from mange for far too long.
I am familiar with benzolyl peroxide cream to treat sarcoptic mange and have used this successfully on my German Shepard in the past. I am reluctant however to use this on my little dog. She is only 3.5 lbs. I always want to make sure that anything I put on her body or in her body is not going to be more than her little body can tolerate. I am also familiar with food grade hydrogen peroxide and It's benifits. But 35% is way too much and I know all I need is over the counter diluted 3%. What I need to know is the portion and strength of borax to use to hydrogen peroxide. I know peroxide alone is not gonna solve this little dog's problems. So a recipe please and feedback to its effectiveness.
The peroxide is one part then two parts water, so if use one cup 3% hydrogen peroxide, you use two cups of water to dilute, then tree tablespoons of borax, this treatment works, wash everything constantly in borax, I used half a cup to a load. Sprinkle carpets with half and half borax and table salt, and just leave it on carpet for a few weeks, don't let animals walk on, keep them on a tile floor, which you wash also with borax and water as a cleaner. If its really bad, talk to pharmacist about a sulfur dip, I was told it really stinks. So I tried borax treatment, in one article it says to put mineral oil in eyes, do not, it burns there eyes, just clean with eye cleaner from your vet. Don't forget to deworm, I'm using a holistic blend natural wormer, as my two dogs are on heart medications. To find out where a store near you, heres their 1-800-954-1117, I also noticed a liquid parasite remover at the superstore. Hope this helps! Will have to repeat treatment, I also put a few drops of olive oil in their ears everyday or every other day untill they stoped shaking there heads, this drowns the mites.
I think I'm confused. I rescued puppy, bottle fed her. We est her about 4 months old and now above her eye is going bald.
I mixed borax, peroxide, and water to treat mange. But I think I mixed it wrong. Is it suppose to be paste, or feel like "salt water" when I pour and rub it on her? I mixed allot so I could make sure her whole body was covered. Am I doing something wrong
