I learned years back to loose weight one needs to heat lipton tea with 1 tbsp honey and 1 tsp of apple cider vinegar for breakfast before eating anything. Again two or three times a day. From what I remember if you did more vinegar it doesnt help as you only need a total of 3 tsp or tbsps can't remember....

apple cider vinegar for weight loss
oh, my goodness! i tried the acv (2 tsp) in 16 oz of water only one time a day. normally when i wake up in the morning or before i go to bed at night. I lost 5 lbs in one week. unfortunately, i haven't been able to use it this week because i have reocurring bacterial vaginosis and i read on this site that the acv could make it worse. it's not as bad as usual though, but i've also found remedies for that on here!!! thanks so much for the posts!!!

The reason it would make it worse is because of the "mother" bacteria. It's basically like a natural antibiotic. Antibiotics can cause a serious itch in that area because, it too, like antibiotics is indiscriminate in the bacteria it kills, so it could aggravate your situation

Hi! I am Vicky. I have been taking ACV for almost 1 month but I have not losat weight and its quite dissapointing. I take about 2tbsp with a glass of water twice a day. I also take about 2tsp of pysllium husk twice a day. Am I doing this diet correctly? I am desperate to lose weight. I am 5'7"and about 75kilos. My tummy is quite big (waist 37"), it looks as though I am pregnant all year round. This is so embarassing and this is really making me so depressed!!! Please I hope someone out there will be able to help!!!

Hey Vicki, I was 134 lbs and I started taking ACV. I gained weight with that. Gained about 2-3 lbs. Reason being that I took ACV after meals instead of before meals. I have heard that if u drink ACV before meals, then you loose weight and if u take it after meals, then u gain weight. Well, since I had gained weight with that, I lost trust and stopped it. So I believe that ACV only works if u r really over weight, not if you just want to loose a few lbs. Also I started drinking this: take a big glass of warm water, add 3 table spoons of lemon water with 1 teaspoon of honey. Drink that in the morning as soon as u wake up and once before going to bed. I am now 130. Still have 10 lbs to loose, but am not in rush for that. You can either try the lemon water and honey or drink ACV before meals. You will read my posts below, where I was also very depressed that ACV did not work for me, esp cause it worked for everyone else, but me!

Response to Vicky:
I'm not sure what 75 kilos is in pounds, but a 37" waist is NOT that big. When I started the ACV, my waist was 63" and 280lbs . . . so you see why I really think that the ACV works for really overweight people. Maybe you should increase the amount of psyllium you are taking and aerobic exercise will definitely help, but it takes some time. Also, wearing a girdle regularly may help your ab muscles. Don't be so hard on yourself! All the best to you!

Nipa, if you aren't losing weight, then it may be because you are consuming more calories than you are currently burning off. Either cut the calories down or exercise for at least 45 minutes to burn off what calories you are consuming. The apple cider vinegar should help in the process.

I hope the directions were the bit more clearer! I stopped it since a week now and lost my 2-3 lbs that I had gained. Dont think I will try it again now, just lost faith in it. Nipa, I think you need to give it more time. Another poster experienced the same thing and after a month she noticed weight loss, were the two weeks that you did it around that time of month where we naturally gain weight? And you need the type of ACV with the mother in it. I felt like I bloated and gained weight too. then I stopped it like you I felt much better on the ACV as it helps with so many things. Don't be discouraged....

re: SlimFast - the reason it didnt work for me is the 18 grams of sugar in a single can of it. Check the label. I am referring to original, regular slim fast and its competing store-brand products. Check the sugar grams.
To migrate toward healthier shakes and smoothies, switch to the high protein variety, then the same-brand protein mix after that, then step by step toward making your own blender creations at home. It will be less shock in the taste this way, and you will be able to know exactly what is in it.

I would avoid Slimfast. You will probably have better luck with brewer's yeast, nutritional yeast, Borax, cream of tartar, chlorella and spirulina, Lugol's iodine, whey powder, l-glutamine.
I had success with the hunger control Slimfast in the past, but it contains Splenda/sucralose ie sugar-bleach. Bleach is a carcinogen. There are reports that the sucralose does get somewhat digested. The regular Slimfast did not curb my hunger.
There is a concoction of 1 cup each ginger juice, garlic juice, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and honey (directions are under the link for heart blockage) that helps me lose weight.
Slimfast is like fasting, but harder because your bloodsugar keeps getting boosted and then dropping.
Try this instead of Slimfast:
High speed blender mix:
1 glass cold water
1 heaping scoop brewer's yeast (tastes very bitter)
1 heaping scoop whey powder (get the organic, cold process, pasture raised if you can)
1 Tbsp. l-glutamine powder
1 banana
Also, I recently read that in the past people used a recipe as follows (I'm guessing at the amounts, combine all):
1 cup Yogurt
1 Tbsp. Wheat germ
1 Tbsp. Wheat germ oil
1 Tbsp. Molassas
1 Tbsp. Brewer's yeast

I love this website! My husband has always loved organic this and that, and I grew up on store bought chemicals. I don't know if it's a midlife crisis hitting me at 32, but he's getting ready to teach me how to make homemade soaps. I have got most of the stuff I need for shampoo/conditioners; and today, I went the Health Food Store and purchased the Organic ACV and bunch of other stuff. I hope the ACV works for me in weight loss; I could stand to drop about 30#. I am going to start with a low dosage then increase as I adjust to it. And I am hoping that the ACV with BSM will eleviate my chronic reflux or whatever it is.....I have been so uncomfortable for months now and don't want to go to a bland diet. I will post at a later time with any results whether positive or negative! Thanks

A couple of things from me...first, if anyone has csid reflux, please quit buying the otc tablet stuff and the bottles. Just take about 1 tsp. and if in about 5 min. the acid reflux persists, take 1 more tsp. It does work...no doubt.
My question to all....Can I buy ACV in any grocery store, or do I need to get @ health food store? In the future, could all who read this, please say where to buy? This is important, for some products are not absorbed into the body.
Also a side note, if any folks would like to learn how to grow very healthy veggies and fruit, I will gladly show how to build a healthy soil system. thanks a lot I love this page, God helped me find you!

In response to someone's question about what kind/where to get ACV.... I read it should be "unfiltered, unpasteurized, and not distilled". I use one of the most popular brands and it just lists "raw and unfiltered" on the label.
I buy it at Whole Foods but I know my dad used to buy it before WF became prevalent so check your local supermarkets or health food stores.
Someone else said the regular Whole Foods or Trader Joe's brands are good. You can even ask your local supermarket if they can carry _____ brand.

I just wanted to let people know that they may be able to find the "Popular" brand of ACV in their local supermarket if it has a "organic/healthy" area... that's where I get mine at my local Fry's/Kroger. You probably won't find it with the regular vinegars, but check in the area that offers organic foods (like organic baby foods, and other natural foods) you may be surprised what they have there!

I've been using apple cider vinegar for about 2 months now, and I have to admit that it does give you glowing skin. I drink one tablespoon of organic unfiltered ACV in a glass of water once a day and use regular filtered as a skin toner on my face twice a day. I'm in my late 20's and have acne, and I saw immediate results in 2 days. My skin glows, even when I have a break out. I use other products for acne, but I have noticed that break outs are reduced.
Additionally, drinking ACV has helped my acid reflux. I do not exactly understand how consuming an acid helps, but it does. I suppose it is possible that my stomach does not have to produce and excessive amount of acid if I am ingesting one.
As a side effect, I did notice that I had the constipation problem other people mentioned. I found it was worse the more ACV I drank, so I just restrict myself to 1 tablespoon per day and give my body a break from ACV at least one day a week.
Weightloss-wise, I've not noticed any results, but I think this is because I am not significantly over-weight and eat a healthy diet in the first place. I'm a 5'8'' 155lbs woman, so even a 5-10lbs loss from drinking ACV would be a bit drastic. I may, over an extended period, lose a bit, but I think that ACV helps more if you have not been taking any weight management measures. I think it might be helpful if more people describe their lifestyle pre-ACV in the weightloss section so that people will have a better idea of what results they can expect.

Hi Ekta, you may be gaining weight because your fat might be converting to muscle if your clothes are not getting tight because muscle weighs so much more than fat. if that's not the case then, u may have another problem, mine was "sleep apnea" (i'm sure i didn't spell that right) for some reason it kept me from loosing weight. Now I combine 1/2cup Acv & 1/2 cup raw honey in a 2 quart pitcher. that, for me, is a two day supply. good luck

I have been taking two tablespoons of avc 3 to 2 times a day with four ounces of apple juice or grape juice, for about four weeks now (I usually drink 6 to 8 ounces of water after). I orginally took it for acid reflux and it began working immediately. I read more info on this site and continued to take the same dosage and just last Monday, I have lost over two inches in belly fat, fat from back and upper arms. I usually eat raw and steamed veggies with low carbs, but never had results such as this. My hair is growing faster and my nails are growing like never before. Thanks for this site.

Follow up from my previous post... It is now a month and I have had NO WEIGHT LOSS though my clothes do feel a little bit loose. I tried taking the ACV with baking soda and it tasted like rotten raw potatoes! I drink 2 tsp ACV with 475ml cold filtered water, and sip it through the day. I increased my water intake because you do feel thirsty for water. Even though I havent lost any weight, my hair and nails are really growing fast. It is true that you do feel energised. It is also true that the cravings for sugar and FAT SALTY junk foods are curbed.
Just in the last 2 weeks I noticed that I was eating less and that I cant tolerate some of the fried fatty doughnuts or chips! Now that's an accomplishment!
I'm still going to take ACV regularly because I'm addicted to the taste :)

I was having severe knee pain. One of my friends asked me to take apple cider vinegar. I started that while I was in Singapore. Until now I finished 3 bottles. Doses : two teaspoonful with one glass of cold water. My knee pain has not been cured, but I reduced extra fat of my body & lose weight. But some of my relatives cautioned me that ACV will increase acidity, as well as may be harmful for kidney. It may be mentioned that I have given away my one kidney to my husband & am now living with one kidney. Bangladesh's nephrologist couldn't answer my query whether ACV would be harmful for kidney. And can I take this dose for life long? Would appreciate your respond & suggestion in this regard. Regards.
EC: Apple cider vinegar is said to alkalinize your pH, not make it more acidic, but the only way to know for sure is to check your urine with a pH strips, bought at your local health food store or pharmacy. (Even garden supply and pool supply stores will have pH kits.) We'll pass your questions on to Ted for response!

I prefer a moderate approach where a both baking soda and ACV is added to the remedy so that the pH is between 7- 7.5. This beats me worrying whether the ACV is going to make my urine pH any more acid because of possible acidity in the ACV. Certainly the pH strips and pH meters of measuring urinary acidity or alkalinity will decide it, but people with low levels of bicarbonates in their system may not have sufficient metabolism to metabolise the ACV to be alkaline in a few cases. The usual remedy to get a fairly neutral or biologically friendly pH is 2 tablespoons of ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water at least. This can be taken 2 or 3 times a day. The pH is between 7 - 7.5, which is fairly close to the pH of the blood. The ORP (oxidation reduction potential) has a -150 millivolts, indicates its healing potential in a solution, while most of the foods and drinks we take actually is a free radical and steals electrons from healthy cells where it's ORP for a typical processed food to be between +200 to +300 mV, which is oxidative kind of food and tend to accelerate aging process, and hence greater kidney damage because of its oxidative nature. Exposures to hydrocarbons and aspartame, Sweet n' Low, and other artificial sugars tend to accelerate metabolic acidosis and kill the kidneys by causing the kidney to be bathe in high acid environment much like our stomach digesting our own kidneys, as an illustration.
Sour foods in general is the major problem, but more bitter foods are generally more alkaline. To help protect the kidney monitoring pH is one of them, but other diets that are too high in beans can result in high calcium oxalates too, so moderation is best and by that I don't mean eating beans everyday. Certain Indian diets I have noticed are quite high in beans where they might consume this almost everyday. Without sufficient alkalinity the oxalates creep into the body as oxalic acid and form calcium oxalates, which clogs up the kidney. The other issue is high blood pressure, and high blood sugar which tends to kill the kidney too. A blood sugar can be held stable if water was drank before during and after a meal so that there's no blood sugar spikes occuring between meals. In fact kidney is often congested after eating if certain people do not drink sufficient amount of water causing a cloudy urine, which is one possible effects of dehydration from insufficient liquids during the meal. In certain foods that I have found to interfere with kidneys is alcohol, potato chips, and many salted products, of which these salted products used common table salt, which raises the blood pressure. A sea salt is substituted and kelp is taken as an iodine supplements instead. Since potassium is above average in an Indian diets from more vegetables the biggest problems appear to be the high oxalate diets found in beans, spinach for example which tends to intefere with kidney health.

Before ACV, I suffered from being over weight and acne prone skin. I discovered ACV from a good read and decided to give it a try due to its many benefits. I drink a tspn before each meal (except breakfast). The results are wonderful! My energy level went up, and I also lost weight. It wasn't an overnight success, but it worked! Just recently my husband suggested I put some on a cotton ball and use it for a couple of flare ups I had. And that was last week. Today, I can stand here and honestly say, my pores shrunk and my face is glowing. Needless to say, I've used it as a toner. I've never felt so confident.
