I have used coconut oil for many years. I learned this from my aunt who was noticing her hair was falling out more than usual so she starting using it on her scalp and hair and it not only stopped her hair loss, but actually made her hair grow strong, abundant and shiny so I started using it myself. Needless to say I have really thick strong, to much hair actually.

Sunburn

I started using Virgin Coconut Oil and I love it. I usually sunburn the first time I lay out in the sun, then peel, then I tan afterwards. I usually lay out without sunscreen or tanning lotion. So, I decided to put VCO on my body and layed out in the sun for four hours. I burnt a little, but nothing compared to usual. I also applied VCO twice a day after that and didn't peel at all, but it turned into a great tan. I will use VCO forever. P.S. I also started taking it internally 3X a day-yummy.

I tried Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil for the 1st time a few days ago and I was okay. It felt funny going down though and it made me feel kinda a weird. I've taken 2 teaspoons with concord grape juice. It was a great combination and the taste was out of this world (very delicious). I will gradually use this product for my thyroid condition, due to reading great articles and other responders of how great EVOCO is for health. With everything I suggest you start off with lose dose. I wouldn't go my the recommended dose on the package. 2-3 tablespoon seems to be too much, unless you are cooking with it. Taking that much orally is too much and you would get sick. I used it with juice and it felt a little weird, because it do not vaporate and I had to swallow a lump of EVOCO, but I didn't get sick. Thank God. I will skip a day and then use it again, but only 1 tsp. Be careful everyone, don't overdo it. :)

Coconut Oil for Hypothyroid patients: I heard that virgin coconut oil was a good supplement for people suffering with hypothyroidism. I went to a natural food market and bought a jar of it. That was 2 months ago and I have gone back to buy more several times. I am taking 3 tablespoons in the morning. It has not helped with my weight although I know a few people who used it and lost weight immediately. It has stopped my hair loss (it use to fall out by the handful) and in fact not only is my hair thicker but my eyebrows are growing back. I no longer have cold hands and feet either. It doesn't cure thyroid problems but it certainly is a great supplement to help with the effects of the disease.

I just want to quickly join this wonderful post and thank you all from the bottom of my heart for sharing your experiences. Recently, I started to use coconut oil internally and also as a moisturizer due to my dry skin and slight cellulite on my thighs. The cellulite disappeared within 2-3 weeks. What a joy! However, I got very ill. From your experiences I know now that the coconut was detoxifying my digestive system. I was miserable for two weeks, not knowing what was happening to me. I realize now how much I needed it. I salute to the coconut oil.

WARNING!

I have been using coconut oil as a moisturizer for about a year now.

I read on numerous internet sites and blogs about how it was a miracle product for all kinds of skin ailments including acne.

So I started using on my face and body--it has been a great replacement for body lotion, and has mildly improved the keritosis pilaris on my upper arms, but using it on my face was a BIG mistake! I am still suffering from the consequences (pimples all over, including places where I had NEVER had them before). I have since learned that people with small pores, like me, should not use thick natural oils on the face, because the molecules are too large. People with larger pores (darker skin usually) can benefit from it, but it can really clog up people will small pores! Jojoba and tea tree oils are the only oils suitable for my delicate face.

Just want to warn others!

I have been taking coconut oil since the summer. I have the symptoms of an underactive thyroid. I was shocked when I read the causes. The coconut oil also helped to improve my skin tone. I feel for everyone that has this problem.

To those of you who have had problems with using coconut oil on the face resulting in breakouts, redness, whiteheads etc. If you wish to try Coconut oil on the face use only a very, very thin layer. I'm talking a teeny, tiny amount. You could also try coconut soap instead to clean the face. There are many good natural brands online from which to choose.

Used many oils including virgin coconut oil in many of my skin care cosmetic formulations. But thats history. My problem has always been cystic acne. In my late forties and it is without a doubt extrmely debilitating. Large cysts would form on my face and it would take weeks for them to subside leaving a purple mark for many months. After My business mail order business went down the toilet due to 9/11. Nobody trusted the mail. I realized I had a klo of virgin coconut oil left in my refridgerater. Literally stumbled on the idea that VCO would help acne. Skeptical about putting straight oil on oily acne skin. I gave it a shot because one of my best sellers of my cosmetic formulations was an oil based, black head removal cream containg organic jojoba oil, actually it is a remarkable oil for rducing large pores. Bottom line is that cysts or leasins would be reduced within 48 to 72 hours. I was stunned to say the least. For two years I have had almost totaly relief from a lifetime problem. I have just started taking it internally since I realized I have had candida, probably for 35 plus years because of the massive amounts of tetracycline, minocin etc. (unconscionably destructive acne anitibiotics) It truly does smooth and soften the skin. My face looks like the moon, from acne scarring, although my wife says I exaggerate but It makes me look younger for sure and for certain. Don't use refined or fractionated coconut oil on your face it must be unrefined virgin oil. It really is miraculous. Cheers all.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
Posted by Pam (Santa Barbara, CA) on 02/25/2007

For people who are not sure if they are using Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. If it doesn't say that on the jar then it's not that. It is much more expensive to make and they will always label it that way. I have been taking coconut cream instead because I love it so much. I found the oil hard to take and there is plenty of fat in the cream to do the job. Pam

i often had a hard time before with my bowel movement. i rarely went to the CR to poop, 4x a week was the most, which i found abnormal. i read an article about virgin coco oil and its effects on health. i learned that it does not have any side effect so i went to a nearby drugstore to get one. The effect was faster than i though it would be. i took a spoonful before going to bed and presto! after breakfast the following day i felt relief because the stomach that was once hard to please voluntarily surrendered itself to nature's calling. i recommend VCO for better health and longer life. see for yourself.

Coconut Oil has cured my arthritic pain, balanced blood sugar, given me energy and reduced lines and wrinkles. After reading all the positive results I found a place in Australia that sells excellent C/oil. I take three tablespoons a day (one each meal) I also use it externally on my skin, with amazing results. I had no side effects, nor has it altered my cholesterol reading. Mixed with a hot lemon drink with turmeric is a good start to the day. Mixed with yogurt or cottage cheese, muesli and fruit is also delicious. I stopped taking Glucosamine when I started the C/oil and have not taken any since.

Coconut Oil and Coconut Milk: Shines hair, soft skin, (c-oil) good for cooking vegetables, meat like chicken or pork (c-milk). Coconut oil has a lot of things for good, you can use it on your hair as a conditioner or use it as lotion on your skin. While, coconut Milk is good for cooking, we usually used it for cooking vegetables or meat for our meals. It's so delicious everybody loves it.
