Hello Deirdre, Thought you might like to read that Linus Pauling agrees with Dr. Jonathan Wright on iodine & fibrocystic breast disease. Guess it would work the same with fibroids of the uterus or elsewhere one might form a fibroid.

Beth: I was so encouraged after reading your post listing "multiple cures." I have been so sick for so long that I am beside myself. I have severe asthma and have been intibated several times and on life support. I take multiple preventive medications. In Nov 2009 I was taken by ambulance for respiratory failure again ~ my poor 11 year old had to call. Anyway, after I came out of all of that, I met with a nutritionist, because the doctors thought I had had an allergic reaction to a food. I had not. The nutritionist asked if I had ever had my thyroid checked. I have not. I have no insurance right now. Ugh. But, my sister had a huge goiter appear on her neck a few years ago ~ so it does run in the family. Yesterday I went to the store and bought kelp. Last night was the first time in almost 2 years that I have felt half way good.

I have also been wrestling with low abdominal pain on my left side that radiates all the way to my back. This started in Aug 2007. I think it involves my kidneys. The severe back and abdominal pain has been so bad, to the point it has been difficult to work. At times the pain is so horrible, I feel like I am being stabbed and it is worse than having a baby. I thought it might be kidney stones and have just started taking the lemon and baking soda. Oh my gosh. I am shocked, shocked, shocked at how much it has helped. I still have pretty bad pain every day and it scares me, as I don't know what the heck it is.

I am going to continue with the kelp, lemon juice, baking soda and I take other supplements. It is so awful to not be really old, but to feel like crud all the time. I just want to have energy, feel good and enjoy life. I actually got stuff done yesterday and today and felt so good for a change! Thanks for sharing and keep us posted on your progress. I will do the same. Janine

For years I have suspected that I was hypothyroid. Since my TSH was normal, my doctor saw no reason to do the T3/T4 test despite my having classic hypothyroid symptoms. It seemed like my symptoms were getting worse, so I decided take things into my own hands and started researching natural therapies for hypothyroidism. All my research led me to iodine and I started taking one 12.5 mg of iodine/iodide pill a day. I also started on a 200 mcg of selenium, as well. What I had read was that the two need each other to properly function.

The change in my life has been incredible. The first change was my energy. I felt completely recharged! I also felt motivated! Like I actually WANTED to get things done. Mentally I felt so much clearer. I have struggled on and off with depression since I was 13 years old and for the first time in my life I felt consistently stable. I researched this further because it was completely astounding to me. There is a known link between low thyroid function and bipolar disorder! In fact, if anti-depressants stop working or aren't as effective in some people, doctors prescribe them a medication that enhances their T3 and- viola! -their medication starts working again!

The next thing I noticed was that my knees were no longer hurting. They had been fairly sore for at least a month and the just stopped hurting completely.

The list goes on and on. The hypothyroid night sweats are gone (I would wake up at least 4-5 times each week with my pajamas, hair and sheets drenched), I am sleeping decently, my acne cleared up, the puffiness in my eyelids is gone, and on and on....

One thing that still just blows me away is that my feet are smooth. For as long as I can remember, my feet have been dry and cracked and the skin was so thick. To get my feet in shape for sandals in warm weather took a ton of effort. I just figured that's how my feet were. Within just a couple of days, I started noticing my feet were not as rough. After a week, they were like I had received an incredibly expensive pedicure minus the nail polish. To get results like this, normally I would have to soak, scrub, moisturize repeatedly and maybe after a week they would look half this good.

The whole thing is shocking and amazing to me. It has helped me beyond anything I could have imagined. I figured so many of my issues were things I had to live with and never dreamed they could even be treated. I wonder how many people are walking around with low functioning thyroids and don't even know it?

Don't take my word for it. Do the research for yourself, there are tons of well-documented studies online. Do a patch test. If you are deficient, try it for yourself and get your life back!

Hi,

I have been researching iodine deficiency in depth for a couple of years. I am very interested in this as it seems to be connected with electrosensitivity and multiple chemical sensitivity both of which I have. I am certain now that iodine is of great importance to health and would love to discuss this further.

Heavy Metals

Mary Louise,

I have been detoxing with iodine and my understanding, and what has seemed to be working for me, is to take the vitamin C at least an hour after taking the iodine. I generally do an hour and a half to 2 and a half hours. The C then can mobilize the halogens the iodine has been displacing. Then an hour and a half or so later, taking sea salt in water 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon, helps to flush the halogens through the kidneys. The C as I understand will halt the iodine's working, if not taken at least an hour after the iodine when the blood levels peak.

For extreme gum pain and inflammation after serious dental work, nothing works like turmeric and curcurmin.
I'd give that try - as much as you need, for the pain you describe next time.

Goiter
Posted by Nuri (Tacoma, Wa, Usa) on 01/04/2010

I grew up in the 1940S and 1950's in what was called "The goiter belt" of Northern Minnesota where many elderly ladies and men had huge growths protruding as much as 6 to 10 inches from their throats. Dad put 1 to 2 drops of red iodine into our 8 ounce glass of milk every morning for more than ten years. I do not know if this prevented us from goiters, but we are all goiter free and there were no apparent side effects as we are all physically healthy. A little wacky psychologically but I don't know if that had anything to do with the iodine.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

What I tried was iodine and firstly looked up google to find out whether there was a connection between liquid iodine and the removal of heavy metals, and guess what, there is!!!

SO, after taking 3 drops of iodine in a glass of purified water with a half a teaspoon of vitamin C powder, I found that I was getting a bunch of pain in my gums where I had mercury fillings removed. What astounded me was that the dentist and I could not identify which tooth was suffering the pain. After taking an x-ray, it was found that 3 teeth in the upper right quadrant were very deep, yet nothing that indicated any serious problem that may be causing me all the pain I was feeling. What I believe was happening is that after 6 weeks of taking the iodine and Vit C powder, that residue (if this is the right word to use, someone out there maybe help me on this one), was being removed out of my gums! After 5 days of pain wavering in and out, it completely went and there is now no more pain. Does anyone have any suggestions of what else may have been happening or who may support this experience/theory? I would be interested in hearing your points of view.

EC: Hi Mary Louise,

A few follow-up questions for you:

Are you taking Lugol's iodine or another type of iodine?
What kind of Vitamin C powder is it, Ascorbic Acid?
How much vitamin C are you getting in that 1/2 teaspoon of powder?

Thanks!

Side Effects From Radiation and Chemo
Posted by Roger (Branson, Mo.) on 01/02/2010

Use of iodine

I basically have pretty much finally somewhat recovered from stage 4 cancer of the mouth, & tongue. The last few months have noticed at times I get like feeling cold or guess chilly. Weather here has turns cold, and now seems like that has make it worse. Now I am planning to set up an appointment with the gland doctor. However, thinking in meantime trying iodine to see if that may help a little. I see I am not alone with this problem for two other people with same problem reporting it on the internet. I never had this problem before severe radiation & chemo so now thinking this appears to be a side effect from treatment to a few people. They may be able to kill the bad cells with radiation & treatment but it does seem to result in a few other problems. However, I am lucky to have made it this far so guess considering not to bad. I have a cardiac arrithymia since childhood. I am 54 now. I have researched and researched and researched after going to alot of cardiologists and trying mainstream remedies. I have tried magnesium, B vitamins, salt, potassium, etc. They all helped but did not cure my palpitations. My heart used to skip, and beat incredibly fast. I stopped going to the emergency room because they immediately wanted to do surgery, etc. The whole thing was terrifying. I cured this condition with one drop of REAL elemental iodine in my orange juice in the morning. Sea kelp and drugstore iodine did not work. Dr. Brownstein has written a book about it. You can tell if you are deficient by putting any iodine on the inside of your arm and watching to see if it lasts 24 hours. All my thyroid tests were normal. Every person I have told (who has arrithymia) has had a similiar experience!!!! One itsy bitsy drop of elemental iodine changed my life COMPLETELY. (I also paint my arm with it sometimes.)

I have been taking iodine for over 5 years. Before I started taking iodine, I had very large saliva glands, I had very bad pimples on my face, back, arms, ect. I had bad problems with my reflux, pain in the stomach after meals. I would be out fishing on the river and all at once I would have a gush of saliva out of my mouth, like a huge release of water at once. I would run a high fever over 102 at least once or twice a every year for no reason. My gums would hurt and bleed all the time. But after 3 years of high doses of iodine every day, ALL of the things ive just told you have gone completly. I feel better every day. My saliva glands ARE NOT swollen anymore. My throat does not sting with pain. No more high fever at all. My gums nolonger bleed or hurt. All of this due to iodine only. I will now extract iodine from black walnut trees here at the house, as our wonderful government has taken most all iodine out of salt, bread, and when you buy iodine liqude at the store it too has been reduced to povidone. (worthless). But black walnut trees are the place for the best unaltered iodine naturaly .(dryed powder),(iodine liqude)ect. After seeing all of the good effects of iodine, I will stay on it forever. You must watch food that rob your body of iodine too. Also watch your MSG intake. MSG will also cause very bad problems also. A back door to bad health---->>>>MSG. Iodine will not see MSG and that MSG will kill the good iodine effects.

Excessive Sulphur

Iodine balances sulphur overload

I took Alprim a well-known drug for urinary tract infection which occurred due to food poisoning, my body unbalanced with the sulphur content of this drug, giving me stinging eyes, headache, over active thyroid and pains in my body....too much acid forming.

I took a teaspoon of organic kelp iodine, within 5 minutes the pains in my body near my neck and shoulder went, the heaviness left my head, it felt like the fluid in the brain begin to flow (odd but yes), my eyes slowly began to loose the sting although it took a day.

I have heard Iodine is great for getting rid of sulphur burps as well.

Anyone had this type of experience?

John W- Regarding your Lyme Disease - have you tried using Colloidal Silver (CS)? I have been using since 1994 with great success for many ailments internally and externally. I am retired and a full time RVer and we don't have time for being sick. CS has been reported to kill up to 650 different pathogens including the Lyme Virus, MRSA, H1N1, etc. I have used recently for flu, food poisoning, head cold, boil, etc. I bought a CS micro-particle DC generator machine from Phoenix, AZ recently . It is very small and I can carry in our motorhome. It makes a micro particle 7-10 ppm solution. I take 1-2 oz per day when sick (sometimes more). I swish under tongue for 30 seconds or more and then swallow. I am currently using on the dog internally and externally for skin rash and health issues. I am a great believer of CS and its benefits. When I am taking CS I also do a probiotic to replace good bacteria which might be affected. Be aware that if you have a lot of a virus or bacteria, that when you take CS or an antibiotic, you can go thru a Herxheimer Affect and feel worse before feeling better. I realize there are pros and cons regarding CS as I have studied and read all about them for 15 years. I believe the PROS only because I and friends/relatives have had such positive responses (and none of us have turned blue!)

I would like to add, Lugol's is found at the drug stores in Canada, If it is not on the shelf as the Pharmacist to order it for you, If they ask what you want it for, tell them it is for your pet or horse that has some ailment, and want to get rid of the problem asap, I didn't have a problem then. I have had friends that had a problem with pharmies in that respect, GOOD LUCK

well i have a bioelectric unit with radio frequencies and wands that do rare earth gases... it is supposed to work really well with lymes and alot of things. I think in general they are called violet ray machines.

you could hunt for that since I am not supposed to tell you what it is!!!

Kind of crazy.

It should balance your body to NORMAL frequency and so you kind of sleep with it etc.

jcrow prices of Lugol's are more than you quote on your (Wonderful!) website. The small bottle of full-strength Lugol's is $26 including shipping, just thought you would want to know,

Thanks for your great work. I am battling Lyme disease and seeking the silver bullet cure which is apparently non-existent. Any assistance most appreciated!

Thanks Again

Thyroid Issues
Posted by Samlaunch (Knoxville, Tennessee) on 09/27/2009

I had hyperthyroidism. The area around my throat (thyroid) bulged out my eyes bugged out. Then, I took three vitamins (1 of each per day) and everything shrunk back to normal: Selenium, Co Q-10, L-Lysine. From using myself as a human guinea pig, salt seems to reactivate my thyroid condition. Baking Soda is sodium bicarbonate so you'll notice sodium (Na). The vitamins would fix the problem and the baking soda would bring the problem back. I don't have cancer so I don't need to use baking soda. Then, I stumbled onto hot cocoa (flavanoids) which reduces blood pressure. Cures won't work if you misuse your body by staying out of shape and eating junk food. I don't have hyperthyroid these days and sleep soundly every night, all night. My doctor in Tennessee said that everything looks good, throat looks normal, eyes look good and heart sounds nice and calm.

How bad is glutamic acid in nori? When the glutamic acid isn't added, but is simply a part of the food, is it equally as harmful? Nori is mysteriously delicious....

EC: Excerpt from a NYTimes Dining & Wine article: "Professor Kirshenbaum responded that nori contains a high concentration of glutamic acid and inosinate, two molecules that create umami flavor. And since two ingredients rich in umami flavor used together can produce a synergistic effect, cheese and truffles, which are often good sources themselves, may not be such odd partners for nori after all." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/09/dining/09nori.html

Atomidine
Posted by T (Maryland, USA) on 06/28/2009

I must post about my recent experience with Atomidine (iodine trichloride) as it's been nothing short of amazing for me. I'd been intending to try Lugol's (after dithering due to reading some things warning thyroid/Hashimoto's patients off taking supplemental iodine). But so far I've yet to buy some. While browing online I ended up buying some Atomidine as it wasn't too expensive. I started taking a single drop most days in my usual water+ACV a few weeks ago, and it has made a seriously remarkable change for me!

After becoming very ill by the end of 2007 due to Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease), and finally self-diagnosing and spending a painful 2 grand to wring some meds out of appallingly ignorant and uncaring doctors (a rant for another time!), I've spent the last year or so greatly changing my diet, starting Levoxyl, taking supplements and researching like mad, trying this and that. I did improve some, but it's not been nearly enough to get me back to normal...until the Atomidine. I've hardly had the chance to haunt EC like I normally do because I'm off and out getting so much done! Not only do I have more energy, I have MOTIVATION (that's been a very elusive thing!). I do still have 'down' time but it's not anywhere near like it was before starting the Atomidine. I am so very grateful to God for this miracle and I hope it continues on.

I've had swollen glands in my neck for years, and they are mostly gone now. I've also been putting Atomidine on a suspicious mole on my arm that I was supposed to get removed long ago (I chickened out!). It's flaked over twice now (pain-free), yet the skin around it is fine, like the Atomidine is affecting only the suspicious spot. I'll report back with any more changes on that; I do expect it'll take some time if it's really going to get rid of it.

This has been my own experience so far with Atomidine. As always, research for yourself before trying anything.

I'm hoping to see some more discussion on the various types of iodine, and also hoping someone else has experience of Atomidine and can advise if I should continue taking it as I have been (single drop most days, with days off here and there) or should I be changing something. I'm afraid I'll somehow cause its effectiveness to fade...and I can't bear to go back to the way things had been! I don't usually take it on the days that I take my tiny dose of Levoxyl (I only take half of a low-dose pill every few days now).

On a side note re: the Hashimoto's, I've been taking chlorella on and off after seeing someone here post that their antibodies disappeared after taking that for awhile. I'm going to try to take it more consistently. I hope to have the funds to retest in a few months and see where my antibodies stand after these measures - and I'll report that here too :)

Answers to those confused about uses of SSKI or Lugol's solutions (both potassium iodide solutions:

An excellent article on the use of SSKI can be found and printed off the internet by typing "potassium iodide" (omit parenthesis) in search window. Pull up reference from Tahoma Clinic which is an excellent article telling you what to use it for and how much to use. SSKI & Lugol's solution are both potassium iodide solutions for oral use, but of course most anything you can use orally can be used externally also.

Hello to Mrs. McBear and all who are confused on iodine.

The only two solutions usually used internally are SSKI (Saturated Solution of Potassium Iodide) and Lugol's solution. I believe the Lugol's solution is a little stronger than the SSKI (but you can research the formulas for both to make sure of this. You should also be aware that either of these should be taken in unchlorinated water, as the chlorine will cause the potassium iodide to revert to iodine.

Povadine and Betadine are usually used for pre-surgical scrubs and/or handwashing.

You can paint the tincture of iodine on the skin, but I would hesitate to take it.

So much has been said about iodine, but here's where I get confused. It seems there are three types of iodine: tincture of iodine, povidone iodine, and Lugol's iodine. Which is used for what? It seems most of the posts don't say. For example, which iodine do you paint with? Can you paint AND take Lugol's iodine drops in water? Can you drink drops of povidone in water like you can with Lugol's, or is that not to be taken internally? I'm really confused and need a little clarification.
