Below the updated recipe that Jean gives (tomato tea) for a cold there is info regarding capricin which it alleges is in peppers. That is incorrect. Capricin is another name for capryllic acid. What peppers have (active ingredient) is capsaicin, something totally different. Here is a link that explains it: http://www.cfspages.com/yeast.html
And a quote from the above link:
Capryllic Acid - AKA Capricin. It is a bullet point down the page a bit in the listed article.

I was ready to write a NAY for this remedy, but I'm happy to report that it worked. Yesterday evening I had a head cold so severe I thought my right eyeball was going to pop out of my head from the sinus pressure. I made up the tea per the recipe, substituting organic tomato juice for the V8 (which I think is gross) and bottled lemon juice for fresh (because I didn't have lemons). I also added a few dashes of cayenne. I didn't have high hopes for the flavor, since I don't love tomato soup, but it was quite tasty. I ate it like a soup and used the spoon the suck the brew to the back of my throat, which was sore. After drinking most of the tea, my sinuses alleviated somewhat, but were still very clogged. I went to bed miserable. When I woke up at 4 AM to use the bathroom, I was able to blow pretty much everything out of my nose, but I now had a raging sore throat. I managed to go back to sleep, and when I woke up at 8 AM my sore throat was gone. There's some residual mucous in my system, but my coughs are very productive and it's draining pretty easily now. This remedy's going to be a keeper, I think.

I had a sinus infection (which started on my holidays) and felt like I was in the circle of taking antibiotics, getting better, getting sick. Then I turned to google and found this recipe and I have being feeling better since! In the begining I was having the tea every day, then I easd off when it gets better. When my sinuses get swollen I start having the tea again. I will never forget this recipe ever, its so easy to remeber! I pass it onto everyone who gets sick or whos in my boat, coz I know how annoying it is. Thank you soo much, I am forever greatful and will know what to to the next time I get sick overseas... It will not be antibiotics!

I came down with a horrible sinus infection that started on Monday. By Wednesday I couldn't even use the netipot my nose was so clogged and my face hurt really bad. I came to Earth Clinic for a remedy and thought I would try the Tomato Tea. I prepared the tea as instructed using 5 cloves of crushed garlic and cayenne pepper (as much as I could stand) and drank two cups of the tea hot. I was hoping for some immediate relief but instead went to bed feeling miserable ready to post a NAY report the following day. When I woke up the next day I was so excited; my sinus congestion was gone! A big YAY for the Tomato Tea!

I had a sinus cold with headache that nothing was touching. I tried Jean's tea - 2 cups - and didn't have high expectations but noticed within a couple of hours my headache was gone and I had tons of energy!! I did all the dishes and took the dog for a loooong walk. The cold hasn't returned to the original level but I only had 1 cup the next day and nothing the following day so now I have an earache. Starting up with 2 more cups of tea today!

I'm pregnant, so phamaceuticals are out of the question, and have the worst head cold I can ever remember... so congested that I was starting to know what a panic attack might feel like... I just couldn't breathe, it was worse lying down, and when I swallowed it felt like my throat might not again open... terrifying! The tomato tea worked within one cup (doctored with habanero as well as tabasco sauce and extra garlic). Amazing! Thank you. I might actually get some sleep tonight.

I am soo grateful to have found this site and the Tomato Tea as well as the ACV. I've never had sinus pain like this in my life - facial sinus pain, eye, ear, head; all ached for 8 days straight with NO relief but two hours when I popped ibprophen, which I didn't like doing. I drank hot water w/ACV, oil of oregano(1 dropper full), liquid garlic (9 drops) last night before bed. NO pain! THEN, I did the Tomato Tea all day today and tonight. STILL, NO PAIN! It's my miracle for the day and I'm grateful. I'm sharing it with everyone. Thank YOU!

AMAZING. First of all, earth clinic as saved me so many trips to the doctor, and so much money. I try to avoid pharmaceuticals as much as possible. I have been battling this cold for a week, and finally broke down and bought some OTC decongestant. It did not help at all, just made me lethargic. I didn't have any tomato juice on hand, but i couldn't smell or taste anything anyway, so i put 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper and 1 tablespoon granulated garlic in water with about a tablespoon of lemon juice and popped it in the microwave for two minutes. After about fifteen minutes of sipping/inhaling the tea i could breath again! Fortunately/unfortunately my sense of taste started to return, so i'm going to have to go get some juice to continue. Thank you sooo much for this remedy! I don't know what i would do without this site.

Yea

It works immediately and, with a bit of persistance, for the long haul. I have terrible painful problems with ear pressure and hate the thought of a drive to the mountains or flying. If I have had even the slightest congestion before such a trip, I start weeks ahead with the Tomato Tea until every trace of the congestion is completely gone.

To the basic recipe, I add 1/2 tsp. horseradish. If planning to be sociable, I eliminate the garlic. I also use habanero sauce with great effectiveness. :-)

YEA - Tomato Tea

Wow, incredible results in a manner of minutes. I cannot believe how well this works. I have had 6 weeks of allergies and sinus medications and an addiction to Afrin and rebound effect. Cut the afrin today and had 100% blockage on right side. Did the tea and was 90% clear before I was half done with tea. I am completely blown away at results, hope it lasts. How often do you need to drink tea?

I have been sick with cold for 7 days now. By the 5th day it got much worse - with low grade fever and chills as a result of sinus infection. I found this website quite late in my malaise, when I was very congested, with strong headaches and pressure around my eyes and temples. So I decided to give a try to the Tomato tea. I used fresh chilly peppers (1), fresh garlic (2 cloves), as well as juice of 1/2 lemon for it. After the first cup the help wasn't immediate. But there were moments of my badly congested nostril to allow some air in and out. It was at 7 pm. But I was still of course worried about how I would sleep that night with no real help from the one cup of tea. So just before going to bed at 10.30 I made myself another cup. This time real hot (much more chillies, and of hotter temperature). I barely could swallow this so it was hot. I went to bed being as congested as before. But to my surprise the tea started acting while I was already in bed. Suddenly I could breath freely. That was so incredible. And I fell asleep happy and relieved and was able to breath throughout the night. By the early morning, however, the effect wore out and I again was clogged. But I nevertheless had a good 6 hours of sleep.

Tomato Tea worked great for me on my sinus congestion! I have Graves disease and can't tolerate decongestant pills anymore. Along with my saline wash, this actually worked better anyway and without the side effects. THANKS!!!!!

Hello, I think the sinus problems is a result of inflammation. From what I've read recently, the inflammation causes graves disease in the first place. I'm hyperthyroid and recently was having problems with a sore throat and being hoarse, I'm sure it had something to do with my recent detox and perhaps my body was trying to heal. Anyway, I was trying to get more good bacteria into my body and purchased some Kombucha, instantly, my thyroid started to drain and the symptoms subsided. I would suggest trying to add more fermented foods to your diet, Kombucha is a great one, but so is organic kefir and apple cider vinegar, organic! In my search for information recently, they stressed the B vitamins as well, I use the liquid vitamins so find one that has everything in it. I love these because we can add it to juice or smoothies.

HI - Would it be possible for you to tell me what kind of detox you did and where you got your liquid B vitamins?

The detox program that I am doing is personal but involves sea vegetables and fermented foods that have really helped my thyroid and energy, etc. The liquid vitamin is Nature's Way Alive Energy Vitamins and it has all the B's! A similiar program is the one that Donna Gates recommends in The Body Ecology Diet.

It was probably the worst case of flu I've suffered in my 78 years; I was miserable for 7 days, and none of my home remedies had helped. My tongue and throat pain were severe; nasal and bronchial passages severely congested; one ear had pressure; pain in joints and fatique had me quite down. This a.m. (just 14 hours after drinking the first of 2 cups of the tea during the night), i spoke words of praise & thanksgiving for leading me to your website and receiving your helpful recipe for the flu symptoms are conquered!

Jeannie, I felt compelled to write to you and thank you for posting your wonderful tomato tea recipe.

I am an American vacationing in my wife's hometown of Punta del Este, Uruguay. For whatever reason I somehow started to get very congested over a period of three days to the point that my chest started to tighten up, my head clogged up and my ears backed up and shut down completely. I had tremendous pain in my ears as well as my head. Knowing that I would be travelling on an airplane in a few days was somewhat upsetting realizing that the plane would pressurize and depressurize several times during the flight and that my ears would not be able to compensate for the differences in air pressure. Being in this small South American country doesn't lend itself to modern American medicine so I started searching the Internet to find some remedies and came across your tomato tea.

Amazing is all I can say. Last night I made a batch and drank two cups one after another. Almost immediately my head started to drain and my right ear started to clear. I went to bed last night, slept great and when I awoke my head was 90 percent clear and my ears are draining. I have never been much into natural homeopathic remedies but your recipe has made me a total believer. The change in my condition is nothing short of a miracle and will allow me to fly back to the states in comfort.

Thank you so much for sharing this with the rest of us.

I had been horribly congested for the last 4 days and my deviated septum didn't help the situation. I don't like sleeping with my mouth open or just being with my mouth open in general, so I came on this website to find a cure. I am so, VERY happy to have come across this cure. The Tomato Tea truly works!! Almost instantly! It is very yummy too. I followed the recipe almost exactly, I just added extra hot sauce, lime juice, and extra garlic (about a 1tsp and 1/2tsp). I can breathe again!

AAAAAAMAZING!

My 2 year old caught a cold. Last night was rough, as he didn't sleep through the night - which means no one else did either. Today I found your Tomato Tea Recipe. I used Organic Jarred Tomatoe Puree (I read a list of the 7 foods you should never eat - and one of them was canned tomatoes as the acid in the tomatoes leeches the BPA out of the can's lining), 4 cloves of Smashed Organic Garlic, the juice of one organic lemon, and about 1/4 tspn of Organic Cayenne (IDK if it was African or not).

I gave him maybe 3 spoons of it and he immediately started hacking up phlegm. His nose started running like crazy, I'm assuming because his sinuses were draining. I had some too and right away felt my sinuses dry up and felt as though I could breathe more clearly.

The second time I gave it to him, he wasn't happy. He didn't want it - he was crying. But I made him have it, and he hacked up MORE phlegm. Poor baby... I know it's making him better though.

I also rubbed a combo of olive oil, peppermint essential oil and Eucalyptus essential oil on his feet and chest. I have a humidifier going in his room with Eucalyptus oil in the dispenser. I'm adding a little bit of Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar to his sippy cup of water with a bit of Organic Juice to mask the taste...

He's not eating much, but I'm loading him up on Organic Fruits and veggies. I'm making Chicken Soup from scratch using only Organic ingredients for dinner (what a mission).

He seems to be better today than he was last night, but the true measure will be how well he sleeps tonight.

Thank you all for your insight and input. I will report back tomorrow!
