Below the updated recipe that Jean gives (tomato tea) for a cold there is info regarding capricin which it alleges is in peppers. That is incorrect. Capricin is another name for capryllic acid. What peppers have (active ingredient) is capsaicin, something totally different. Here is a link that explains it:
http://www.cfspages.com/yeast.htmlAnd a quote from the above link:
Capryllic Acid - AKA Capricin. It is a bullet point down the page a bit in the listed article.

I had a sinus infection (which started on my holidays) and felt like I was in the circle of taking antibiotics, getting better, getting sick. Then I turned to google and found this recipe and I have being feeling better since! In the begining I was having the tea every day, then I easd off when it gets better. When my sinuses get swollen I start having the tea again. I will never forget this recipe ever, its so easy to remeber! I pass it onto everyone who gets sick or whos in my boat, coz I know how annoying it is. Thank you soo much, I am forever greatful and will know what to to the next time I get sick overseas... It will not be antibiotics!

Hello, I think the sinus problems is a result of inflammation. From what I've read recently, the inflammation causes graves disease in the first place. I'm hyperthyroid and recently was having problems with a sore throat and being hoarse, I'm sure it had something to do with my recent detox and perhaps my body was trying to heal. Anyway, I was trying to get more good bacteria into my body and purchased some Kombucha, instantly, my thyroid started to drain and the symptoms subsided. I would suggest trying to add more fermented foods to your diet, Kombucha is a great one, but so is organic kefir and apple cider vinegar, organic! In my search for information recently, they stressed the B vitamins as well, I use the liquid vitamins so find one that has everything in it. I love these because we can add it to juice or smoothies.

HI - Would it be possible for you to tell me what kind of detox you did and where you got your liquid B vitamins?
Tomato Tea User Reviews
Posted by Faithinhealing (Forest Park, Ohio) on 04/21/2010
The detox program that I am doing is personal but involves sea vegetables and fermented foods that have really helped my thyroid and energy, etc. The liquid vitamin is Nature's Way Alive Energy Vitamins and it has all the B's! A similiar program is the one that Donna Gates recommends in The Body Ecology Diet.

I am going to go out to the supermarket right now and try the tomato juice recipe but was wondering, wouldn't a bloody mary mix with some garlic work? wondering if I am wrong since its seems obvious and no one has recommended it. Ken

Yes, definitely... This recipe is very very similar to bloody mary mix. I can't even remember how I came up with the recipe, it was so long ago, but making a hot bloody mary is a good possibility. :) Most people wouldn't have that handy, and also it may have coloring, preservatives, in it. But you're right... I should have just added that to the list. :) I'd add garlic, and more lemon juice and hot sauce though.

Tomato Tea for nasal congestion
I'm sorry to say the tomato tea has not worked for me. I caught my son's head cold and came straight to EC for a remedy as usual. I had been drinking ACV, which normally works, but this time it wasn't helping much. I was excited to try this recipe - I love garlic and hot sauce! Unfortunately, the tea didn't do anything for my stuffed up nose...not even clear one side. I drank it straight for two days to no avail. I will say that I love the taste of the tea. However, my husband wouldn't come near me for a few days...he said he could smell me from the other side of the room! Lol! Guess I put too much garlic in. Here's the recipe I used: 2 cups V8, 2 tbsp lemon juice, at least 6 dashes of hot sauce (Tabasco), and at least 4 cloves of garlic, heated in a sauce pan. I drank it hot, breathed in the vapors, etc.
I really wish I could say this one worked for me. I was really optimistic about it due to all the positive feedback. The only thing that has helped is hot showers and eucalyptus/peppermint/olive oils mixed and applied to the bottoms of my feet at night (covered with white cotton socks). I still have a stuffy nose, and now it seems to be draining into my throat. I can feel my glands are starting to swell, causing my throat to hurt a bit, and my ears are clogged up as well. But good luck to everyone else who tries it out there! Hope it works better for you than it did for me!

OK, I just want to let you know that tomato tea really works!!! I had been suffering from a major sinus sinfection and headache for over a month. I had just finished 3 rounds of anti-biotics, was taking mucilex, psuedupredrine, and saline solutions, but I couldn't get my sinuses to drain very well. I was experiencing major head pressure. I ran across the tomato tea, was desperate, and figured that I didn't have anything to lose. Well, I went to the store, got the items needed made it, and drank it. The first cup, gave me significant pressure release. So, over the next week, I continued to drink this at least once per day, usually when I felt the pressure returning. After being on it for 1 week, I am happy to say that my sinuses are clear and have been clear for about 3 weeks now. I waited to leave feedback, because I wanted to see if it really worked, and I can now say that it does! Thanks for the natural remedies!

It couldn't hurt to add ACV to the tomato tea, but I don't know how good it will taste! :) Every ingredient is a natural food, so there are no limits on how much you can take, or what you mix it with. But you could easily alternate between ACV and tomato tea too. Taking these two things on a regular basis will keep your body alkaline and ward off future problems!

I wanted to add this comment to the thread:
Thank you Jean for posting this recipe, and bless you! I can report a HUGE drop in pain after drinking two of these (using my mother in law's home made tomato juice! ), I am drinking a third right now (day 2)
I made up a very spicy tomato tea w lots of garlic, and also felt really bad (my pain had been at 9/10 for many hours of no sleep, this was day 3 of my infection). Tylenol 3s were not working at all for the pain, and I had just begun my antibiotics so I knew the relief would take a bit to come from that avenue. Along with much prayer from myself and others I found this recipe. After taking the first one I also continued to feel really really bad, but after about 2 hours I actually fell asleep (I had not been able to sleep for some time because of the pain). When I awoke the pain was 60% gone. I continued to take a lighter dose of pain med, made another one and went to sleep for the night. Now just one day later I am on NO pain med and feeling FAR less pain then I was while taking every 4 hours previously. I also have been using other methods such as sinus rinses, hot baths, etc. But I must say I give this method (after the prayer) the nod for what has done this remarkable change in my pain levels! Thank you again! I throw my recommendation on to the pile as an AMAZING remedy for EXTREME sinus pain from infection. Do yourself a favor, if you are suffering from this terrible pain please make this recipe good and strong and drink lots of it. God Bless You All. Best Regards, Drew

This remedy sounds great, but please, folks, use only fresh, raw garlic! Do not cook it! Otherwise the allicin is destroyed and it does you no good. Garlic power and granulated garlic are useless, also.

The Spicy Tomtato Tea worked really well for my awful congestion. Within 20 minutes I felt like I could breathe. I went ahead and took a second cup to help with the congestion that was still higher up. I felt great the next morning! (By the way, I've taken homeopathic and regular meds for my sinus problems, and both only give me a few hours of relief.) I had no problems for an entire day! That night, I started to feel stuffed up again. So, I used what I had to make a tea as close to it as I could get and it worked unbelievably!!! I just took a deep breath through my nose as I was typing this just to feel how well it worked. :-) I hope you all have the same success that I'm experiencing with this.
Here's what I used on night two:
Juice from one can of ___ tomatoes & chile peppers (save the tomatoes for some yummy salsa)
3/4 c vegetable juice
1 tbsp minced garlic
The juice from one lemon
Add boiling water to get desire consistency and temperature.
ENJOY!!!

I have been suffering for 3 days now from nasal and chest congestion. I am on my first cup of tomato tea and wow! I can breathe! I feel soothed enough to sleep. It tastes good enough to add vodka too and drink regularly! lol. I added oregano to it for it's known benefits as well, and it really boosted the taste too. My chest congestion is still there, but I am able to cough it up a lot better. Thank you.

I was a little sceptical but this really does work!! My husband had severe congestion that not even the leading brand was relieving. From the first night he drank it he was able to sleep through the night. 2 days later he was better that the last 5 days. Thanks for posting this remedy, I will keep this recipe always. I used it as instructed.
V8
one real lemon juice
3 big cloves of garlic (minced or blended with the juice
Tabasco
My husband ate the garlic itself too!

You will be amazed and cleared of nasal congestion (helps lungs too)if you sniff Oil Of Oregano; get a real good quality because this product will evaporate keep lid on tight. When I sniff, I tip lid/dropper to the side while in the jar and hold opposite nostril closed, take a big sniff. Then change to other nostril Works great.

★★★☆☆BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS
Tomato Tea Caution (Gallstones): I tried the tomato tea, using the exact recipe as posted by Jean. It tasted better than I expected, and it is working pretty well on my sinuses. I drank one serving 2 days ago, and have been getting rid of mucous steadily since then. However, I also have (pretty sure, US test coming in 3 days) gallstones. I believe the tomato tea triggered a nasty gallstone attack, since about an hour after I drank it, the pain started, and the burning when I vomited was horrible, throat felt like it was on fire. Could that have happened from the ingredients in the tea? I hope not, because I would love to drink it again for the sinus congestion, it is working for me even better than sea salt flush or ACV! Any advice would be appreciated. I have not posted before, but I have been recently diagnosed with some health issues, and I always come here first. I don't want drugs or surgery, and most important health issue is, I am obese, and trying my best to solve that first. I LOVE EC!

Nancy Hi. with regards to gallstone problems my grandmother cured her problem (instead of going to surgery to take the stones out) by dinking lots of parsley tea. Just take two bunches of fresh parsley and boil then drink as a tea during the whole day. I prefer to put some lemon just for the taste. DRINK LOTS OF LIQUIDS....! For people with gallstone problems you should drink a MINIMUM of 2 litres of water and teas. Hope this helps.

Every once in a while I come in here to read the feedback as it feels really good to know I've helped people. As I've read through them, I've noticed a few things that seem to be related to the tomato drink not working:
1. Polyps: Of course, if you have a physical blockage, that needs to be removed.
2. OTC & prescribed drugs: MANY people state that these help temporarily and then the problem gets even worse... that's a given. If you take them at the same time you're doing the tea, perhaps you're counter-acting what the tea is doing. Quit the drugs.
3. Sinus problems often seem to be related to eating sugars, ice cream, cookies, whatever.
4. Not everyone will react in the same way. GIVE IT TIME if it doesn't work right away. Most people have very quick relief, others it takes days.
5. It WILL kill the virus/germ... you don't need antibiotics. I know this from personal experience, and many people have said the same. This worked where antibiotics did not.

I have to say from my experience I found that the OTC drugs did make it worse. I felt better in the short-term, but it took longer to get over the cold. Anything that seems to block the discharge of congestion (pseudoephedrine, etc) when I took that it lasted longer. I am sticking with natural supplements and tomato tea and letting it CLEAR out the mucous/infection and it helps a lot when you stick it out!! Be patient and you will feel better! :)

I had first heard of tomato tea on this website and immediately went to the grocery store and bought all of the ingredients. I drank this tea for two days and by the third day I had completely forgot that I even had a terrible sinus cold, and went shopping all day with my girlfriend. I didn't have to take no more medication after just two days!

Jean's Famous Tomato Tea for Sinus congestion: I tried it and it was good, I experienced a little change in my sinus (it opened only one side) my recipe was alittle different (due to lack of ingredients).
1 Can Cambell's Tomato Soup (Follow instructions on the baxk of can)
1 Clove Garlic-chopped
1-2 Tsp Tabasco (more or less; it tends to be less spicy than other hot sauces)
1-2 Tsp Lemon juice (I eye-balled it)
For Taste Garlic Salt (You could use any other flavored salt, but I find this one works better)

Tomato Tea for common cold....
This stuff opened my right up and I was able to sleep...took a couple rounds but started feeling better then next day. I didn't have any cayenne or tobasco handy so I used some Southwest Seasoning mix in the pantry (it had Cayenne and dried chili peppers in it)

I'm currently suffering from horrible rebound congestion from nasal spray (oxymetazoline) addiction. I have been in complete misery, not being able to breath out my nose, congestion so bad it feels like my Eyes are gonna pop outta my skull.
I followed the recipe exactly , and my severe sinus congestion cleared for about three minutes while I started to drink it.... And five minutes later, I was back to square one. Tasted good though, for the three minutes I could taste for. Lips are on fire too.
Didn't work for me this time. :'(

Thank you so much for the tomato tea recipe. I had severe congestion, fever, chills. and aches. I sent my husband out to get all the ingredients and then he made it for me. I was very skeptical because I felt so crappy, but it worked. After i drank two cups, one passage cleared and stayed clear all night, although I had another cup around 2am. It is now 9am and am having another cup and feel so much better. Fever, chills, and muscle aches are gone too. I am a firm believer!!! Thank you!!

I have horrible nasal congestion from when I go to bed until the next morning. The only thing that has worked effectively has been the nasal spray from the drug store, but I can't use that every day. 3 days on, 2 days off. I sound retarded with my nose like this.
