Unlock the restorative powers of nanotechnology with colloidal gold, an innovative natural supplement that intertwines ancient practices with modern science. This liquid suspension of gold nanoparticles promises various health benefits, from alleviating rheumatoid arthritis symptoms to enhancing cognitive functions and promoting tranquility.

Delve into this comprehensive guide that unravels the remarkable applications, benefits, and history of colloidal gold, and explore how this natural health elixir can optimize your well-being.

What is Colloidal Gold?

Colloidal Gold Nanoparticles

Colloidal gold is a liquid suspension of minuscule gold particles, commonly called gold nanoparticles. Nanotechnology, the science in which colloidal gold is rooted, involves particles ranging from 1 to 1000 nanometers in diameter, encompassing solids, liquids, or gases. To put it in perspective, 1 nanometer equates to 0.000000001 meters. The colloidal gold available as a mineral supplement typically consists of a suspension of gold nanoparticles in distilled alkaline water.

These tiny gold particles can penetrate cell membranes, relieving various clinical issues. Colloidal gold is deemed safe for daily use, both internally and externally, and it is also non-toxic for pets.

Color and Shelf-Life of Colloidal Gold

The color of colloidal gold varies from transparent yellow to transparent red or pink, depending on the size and concentration of the particles. Quality colloidal gold is typically ruby red, indicating small nanoparticle size and excellent bio-accessibility.

Colloidal gold has a shelf-life of approximately six months and should be kept in the refrigerator. It is best consumed within six months of opening to ensure efficacy. You can add colloidal silver, an antimicrobial, to colloidal gold to extend its shelf life.

Health Benefits of Colloidal Gold

The health benefits attributed to colloidal gold are numerous. Some of these include:

  1. Anti-inflammatory and anti-aging: Several studies have demonstrated that colloidal gold has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. A study published in Materials Science and Engineering (2018) indicated that colloidal gold could potentially mitigate inflammation and accelerate wound healing.1

  2. Cognitive function improvement: The human body naturally produces trace amounts of gold. This naturally occurring gold has been shown to help transmit electrical signals within the body, improving memory and focus. A small colloidal gold study using human participants showed a 20% increase in IQ scores after four weeks on 30mg colloidal gold per day.2

  3. Rheumatoid arthritis alleviation: Colloidal gold has shown promise in reducing the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. A study conducted in 1997 revealed a significant reduction in joint swelling and tenderness after only one week of colloidal gold use.3

Colloidal Gold reviews on Earth Clinic and other health sites report these additional benefits:

  • Anti-Inflammatory.
  • Anti-Aging.
  • Promotes cellular rejuvenation.
  • Promotes a calm and relaxed mental state.
  • Mood enhancer.
  • Increases cognitive function.
  • Improves mental, physical, and energy performance.
  • Reduces stress.
  • Induces a feeling of relaxation and security.
  • Used to treat addiction.
  • Improves blood circulation.
  • Alleviates rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.
  • Increases hand-eye coordination (and thus popular with tennis players).
  • Helps inflammatory skin conditions like rashes, eczema, blisters, and fungal infections.
  • Improves the transmission of nerve impulses.
  • Improves the absorption of certain elements like magnesium, phosphorus, B vitamins, D, A, and E.

Precautions and Warnings

While colloidal gold is generally safe, some people may experience mild side effects such as sleepiness and lightheadedness during initial use. Those with a skin allergy to gold should avoid consuming colloidal gold. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional before starting new supplements, including colloidal gold.

Regulatory Status

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) currently does not regulate colloidal gold or other colloidal minerals as it does for drugs. Therefore, manufacturers are not required to prove the safety or efficacy of their products. Consumers are encouraged to research and select products from reputable manufacturers.

Manufacturing Process of Colloidal Gold

The manufacturing process of colloidal gold involves the reduction of gold ions in a solution, often facilitated by adding a reducing agent. This process generates gold atoms that group together to form particles. These particles, suspended in a solution, create what we know as colloidal gold. It's worth noting that the process requires careful control to ensure that the nanoparticles produced are of the right size and concentration.

Colloidal Gold vs. Other Colloidal Minerals

Like colloidal gold, colloidal silver is another popular colloidal mineral supplement. While colloidal gold is prized for its potential cognitive enhancement and anti-inflammatory properties, colloidal silver is often used for its antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties.

The History of Colloidal Gold

Colloidal gold's intriguing saga spans diverse fields and numerous centuries. As far back as the Middle Ages, 'soluble gold'—a concoction containing gold salts—was hailed for its healing capabilities, offering remedies for a variety of ailments.

During the 17th century, Francis Anthony, a noted philosopher and medical professional, penned the treatise "Panacea Aurea, sive tractatus duo de ipsius Auro Potabili 2". This landmark publication divulged information regarding the creation of colloidal gold and its myriad medical applications. Continuing this trajectory, Nicholas Culpepper, a renowned English botanist, authored "Treatise of Aurum Potabile" in 1656, dedicating it entirely to exploring the medical potential of colloidal gold.

Fast-forwarding to the late 19th century, medical practitioners across Europe and the United States began resorting to colloidal gold for combatting illnesses like alcoholism, tuberculosis, and syphilis. The dawn of the 20th century saw German researchers discover that gold compounds could stymie bacterial growth. This pivotal breakthrough led to the genesis of gold-based pharmaceuticals for managing tuberculosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Throughout the 20th century, the scope of colloidal gold extended to dentistry, where it was deployed for dental fillings and restorative procedures. Owing to its endurance, compatibility with oral tissues, and pleasing aesthetics, it quickly rose as a material of choice.

An intriguing chapter of colloidal gold's story unfolded in 1857 when scientist Michael Faraday began experimenting with gold leaf, creating a ruby-red solution termed "activated gold". This solution, admired for its fascinating light and matter properties, set the stage for colloidal gold and other colloidal systems like colloidal silver to be utilized extensively as labels for antigens in biological electron microscopy. In this context, labels are specific molecules that facilitate the identification of an antigen-antibody complex.

Fast forward to the present day, and colloidal gold finds widespread usage across sectors like electronics, nanotechnology, and imaging. Moreover, given its purported therapeutic advantages, its status as a natural health supplement is gaining traction. The unique optical traits, coupled with extraordinary electron and molecular recognition properties of gold nanoparticles, have piqued researchers' interest, particularly within biomedicine and nanotechnology. As current research delves into potential uses of gold nanoparticles, possibilities such as advanced cancer treatment and effective drug delivery continue to emerge.

Guidelines for Using Colloidal Gold

The ideal dosage for colloidal gold can vary considerably, contingent on personal needs and the specificities of the referred studies. It is always prudent to adhere to the dosage guidelines mentioned on the product's label. As a general rule of thumb, one should initiate with a modest amount for the initial day or two and then gradually escalate to the recommended dosage.

As a personal anecdote, I consume 1-2 tablespoons of 20 ppm colloidal gold daily on an empty stomach, which has yielded satisfactory outcomes. I also administered a daily dose of one tablespoon to my dog, who passed in the summer of 2022 and weighed 55 pounds. It's important to highlight that each tablespoon of colloidal gold carries 300mcg of gold, much less than the 30mg often cited in some research. Nonetheless, this dosage has proven effective for my purposes and aligns with the dosage advice given by most colloidal gold manufacturers.

Regarding its sensory profile, colloidal gold is virtually devoid of taste, often compared to plain water. It's safe for both internal consumption and external application and suitable for use in pets.

Colloidal Gold is supposed to primarily be used for mental health issues (anxiety, depression, etc). In fact, I've never heard it used in place of silver at all. It's completely different.

You are right on, Katzie. They are both exceptional gifts to our health, but different, though the method here suggests a few drops of silver when making gold, as helps with the creation of the gold colloidal, this from the machine and system that I used here in German speaking countries, where they are very strict on these matters about truth in advertising and ingredients. Our gold is not red, this is the first time I have heard of such, though gold colloidal is extensively used here. One nice side effect was that I found my hair growing in twice as thick (ie many more strands) which, as I have baby fine hair, was a great side effect!

Can you take Colloidal Gold and Lugol's Iodine together or will the iodine flush out the gold??

EC: 1. Interaction: There isn't substantial scientific research specifically addressing the interaction between colloidal gold and Lugol's iodine. Generally, iodine is known for its antiseptic properties and its role in thyroid function, while colloidal gold is used in alternative medicine for its purported anti-inflammatory and cognitive benefits.

2. Absorption: No clear evidence exists that iodine would "flush out" colloidal gold from the body. However, both substances may compete for absorption or interact in the digestive system.

3. Timing: To minimize potential interactions, taking these substances at different times of the day may be prudent. For example, you might take colloidal gold in the morning and Lugol's iodine later in the day.

Hi Bonnie,

No, and here is a great post on the subject from https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_colloidal_gold_the_same_as_monoatomic_gold:

"The obvious answer is that they are very different. In a colloid, there is no requirement that the dispersed gold be in the form of isolated atoms. Colloidal gold is in the form of nanoparticles, each having many atoms of gold (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colloidal_gold). Note that gold is naturally monoatomic, and does not bind to itself chemically, unlike oxygen, which binds in pairs to achieve energetic stability."

Hi Bonnie, I don't think it is monoatomic. The method for Ormus preparation is very different from that of colloidal gold. There is no discourse on Earth Clinic on Oreme or Ormus. You'll have to look elsewhere... Youtube and FB have some groups making Ormus.

I've been taking 1-2 tablespoons of 20 PPM Colloidal Gold up to twice a day for the past two months. So has my 16 year old dog with cancer (who is doing incredibly well, but that's for another post). I have found it is most effective as a mood elevator. I am in an incredibly good mood all day long and things that might normally irritate me for a while hardly irritate me at all.

I have not, on the other hand, noticed any effect on my stiff and somewhat arthritic joints in some of my fingers, but then colloidal gold is noted for rheumatoid arthritis, which I don't have. I am also not taking the 30 mg dose that was tested in the study for RA, but far, far less.

I have now discovered that colloidal gold has even more potent mood-elevating results when taken internally with DMSO, so this is now my new daily recipe. I put raw honey in it to mitigate the clam/garlic breath from the DMSO (really does help).

Here is my recipe:

  • In a mug, add 1/4 cup of warm filtered water -- needs to be warm enough to dissolve the honey, but not too hot.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of raw honey and stir until dissolved.
  • 1 tablespoon of 99.999 Pharmaceutical Grade DMSO.
  • 1-2 tablespoons of Colloidal Gold.

Taken on an empty stomach in the afternoon. Colloidal Gold can be taken on an empty stomach in the morning, but I haven't experimented with DMSO, so I am doing this combo in the afternoon instead.

Important Note! If this is your first time taking DMSO internally, start with a much smaller amount and work your way up. I had never taken DMSO internally before and was quite nervous about it and started with one drop a couple of weeks ago! Now 1 tablespoon down the hatch with no problems.

I hope others who take DMSO internally will try a DMSO/Gold combination and report back.

Yeah! Got my colloidal gold!

No, I STILL can't leap tall buildings in a single bound but I have already had a strange experience.

I hadn't eaten lunch yet, so I put a couple of drops under the tongue. A few minutes later, as with the silver, I got super sleepy. Not groggy, like with the sedative-like effect, just sleepy.

I adjusted the curtains in case it was dark when I woke up from my "nap", checked the clock - 3:47 - and laid down.

I awoke with a bit of a start, trying to remember what I'd been thinking or dreaming about as it was a really good design idea. I wasn't sure which had happened - I.e. whether I'd been thinking or dreaming. But, I couldn't remember the idea and, even though I was extremely comfortable, I was also fully awake so I got up, went to look at the clock, thinking I'd slept a couple hours but it SAID 3:49. TWO minutes.

When I had the covid, I'd gone to bed and slept 3 days so I checked the day and date, just to be sure and, sure enough, though it didn't seem possible, I'd only been in bed 2 minutes.

It was the darnedest thing. Otherwise, I'm just fully awake, "refreshed" and that's about it. I put a couple of drops in my palm and sprayed in some silver and splatted it on my face which feels super soft, just a minute or so later so...that's interesting...

Anyway, I'm going to do a full rinse, swish and gargle in the morning and see what happens.

I take one to one & a half tablespoons of colloidal gold every other day. The only reason I take it every other day & not daily is bc it seems to stay with me & I seem to still feel the effects of the gold. I also started feeling a little bit of an upset tummy if taken daily so I've found it works best if I consume every other day. I do find that my brain function & my energy levels have increased, which I am extremely happy for that. I also noticed that I feel less depressed now after I've been taking it for 4-5 weeks. I am super happy that I found out about this stuff. I am one month away from my 49th birthday & honestly I no longer feel like I am only a year away from being 50 years old, I feel more like I am 50 years young. Thanks for reading my experience.

I've appreciated Earth Clinic for many years, as I have little faith in doctors. I just received colloidal gold and I'm very excited about it. What is the nanometer size of the gold?

EC: Thanks for ordering from us.

Our 20 ppm and 40 ppm colloidal gold is 10-20 nanometers.

Do you have the lab capability to test for nanoparticle size or do you send samples out to an outside lab?

EC: Hi Richard,

No, we would need what's called a scanning electron microscope to measure a nanoparticle, about a $200,000 piece of lab equipment. We would LOVE to own one but need to sell a tad bit more to afford it.

Our ruby red colloidal gold average diameter in nanometers is based on lab reports who make colloidal gold by chemical reduction, 10 to 20 nanometers. Per our colloidal gold consultant, the founder of the colloidal gold/colloidal silver forum (and where our CG and CS recipes come from) it is an effective size, and that chemical reduction produces a smaller size nanometer than electrolysis.

Making Colloidal Gold Is easy... Put solid gold jewelry without stones with 2 cups of water. Boil water, until the volume is reduced to half. Take 1 tsp. of the resulting solution 2-3 times a day. After 2 weeks "gold" water strengthens the heart muscle, and improves memory. ~ German Folk Remedy

Be sure it's pure 100% gold. Most gold jewelry today has other metals used with it to make the jewelry stronger or less costly. Those other metals can be toxic.

Hi Norma,

Great question! Each bottle is bubble-wrapped and placed inside a thick cardboard box. Freezing has only been an issue when people left it outside in their mailbox too long and the bottle not only froze but broke too. Happened to just two so far since December - 1 in Chicago and 1 in Canada... both with temps in the 10-20F range. It was left outside too long.

You can sign up for text and/or email for a delivery notification with USPS or UPS after the label is in the system. Shopify (which we use for e-commerce) also sends out an email once it's been delivered, so that's been helpful as well.

Hi, I have just started using colloidal gold albeit another brand and a few days after starting using it I developed chronic diarrhoea. I am not sure if it is caused by the colloidal gold but was wondering if it is a possible side affect as it still hasn't ceased. Also I would really like to purchase your brand but it is very expensive here in Australia ($153AUD) thats with $45 shipping. Is there somewhere else I can purchase it that a bit cheaper?
