I think that you are adding your own "science" to ascorbic acid. There is strong evidence that Vitamin C's real effects come from its property as a Hydrogen donor ie: its properties as an acid. Neutralizing the acid may remove its benefit. In fact, this entire website is way too biased toward turning everything "alkaline". Without the H dontaion from acids (H donation is literally the definition of an acid) you'd burn up with free radical oxidation. H is literally what quenches the hydroxyl free radical. Its like water on a fire. Ask any chemist, alkaline burns in the lab are much, much worse than acid burns. Acids(hydrogen donors) are what cool your body down from free readical oxidation.

I agree this website is too skewed about turning everything alkaline. Stomach acid needs to be acidic or it won't digest food properly and minerals won't be properly absorbed.

I started taking Vitamin C because I heard that mega-dosing on it helped with remyelination of nerve cells. Two other side effects resulted. First I lost about 20 pounds in two months. I didn't really change my diet or exercise any more than usual. Also, I noticed that I was not suffering from my seasonal allergies. Normally I get seasonal allergies in May and late summer. This past may I only took one over the counter pill. So far this summer I haven't had to take any.

Hi Chuck, I didn't see anything mentioned about the cause of your pain, but if it started after the fall 2 years ago, at this stage it will probably be called traumatic arthritis.

I would suggest two things for that pain if it started shortly after the fall. The first one is MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), Now you know why it is known as MSM. The second one is old Edgar Cayce's castor oil packs. When you research on MSM you will find that it is most frequently used by holisitic practitioners to keep down inflammation and promote cellular regrowth. It is also a first cousin to sulphur (a natural mineral in our bodies) and what our bodies metabolize DMSO to. I think between the two, you will find the pain, much less, if not totally gone within 2 weeks after starting them.

Don't worry about MSM causing a reaction if you are allergic to sulfa drugs. I cannot take sulfa drugs without feeling worse after 3 days of it than I was before starting it for an infection. However I can take the MSM without problems, and I have plenty of allergic problems.

Hi Chuck,

You can type in "Lipitor co-enzyme Q10" in Google and will get several articles related to muscle pain and the Statins (Lipitor, Sinvastain, Mevacore [lovastatin], etc.).

A brief summary: Lovastatin (and other statins) do lower cholesterol, BUT they also lower Co-enzyme Q10. Without enough Co-enzyme Q10 the muscles in the body weaken (the heart is a muscle).

Merck, the drug company that makes Lovastatin (similar to Lipitor) has had a patent on a combination of Lovastatin and Co-enzyme Q10 since 1989 . K. Folkers is the doctor who has done the most research on Co-enzyme Q10. He was an employee of Merck, working out of the University of Texas. Since Merck has the patent on the Lovastatin/C0-enzyme Q10 drug combo, no one else can market it and for money reasons Merck won't market it, nor have they alerted the public to the benefits of Co-enzyme Q10.

A local friend of mine had been taking Lipitor for a few years and developed severe muscle pain in her legs. She simply stopped taking it and the pain went away. She hasn't taken it since.

If you are worried about your cholesterol, you might look at the Cholesterol section on this web site. At the top of the page, click on Ailments, then C, then Cholesterol. Some good remedies, especially Apple Cider Vinegar.

One thing worth noting is what vitamin c is made from... my children and I cannot eat corn and would get headaches when we would consume sodium ascorbate. Then I learned it is typically derived from corn! You can find 'corn free' pure grade sodium ascorbate online. I lost my source in Toronto and have had to get it from the U.S. via internet. From my understanding it can be derived from corn, beets, cassava... that's all I've found out so far. The corn free variety does not give us headaches.

What you are allergic to are the fillers and/or bioflavanoids. You need vitamin C to live .. without it you get scurvy. Humans do not create their own vitamin C like most all other animals do.

Many ailments, like the common cold, are a kind of scurvy. In fact you can experience temporary acute scurvy by taking large Vit C doses over a long period and then stopping cold-turkey - it will last a day or so but you will experience all the symptoms of scurvy and then very quickly recover, so best bet is to taper off usage after consuming therapeutic ascorbate levels.

For allergy sensitive people your best bet is to get powdered pure ascorbic acid with no additives of any kind. Mix 1 teaspoon with 8 oz water, add sweetner if desired. Add .5 teaspoon of baking soda to neutralize the acid if desired to create sodium ascorbate.

If taking the acidic version (not buffered with baking soda), brush teeth after wards or it can attack enamel. If you keep it off your enamel vitamin C in your bloodstream will build your enamel (Vit C is also called the "invisible toothbrush" for this reason).

I have been taking about 2000mg of vitamin c in the morning and evening. the problems I have had with my feet has all but disappeared. I have had numbing or tingling in my feet. I do not know if this is from physical injuries too them or from type 2 diabetes or both but I feel the Vitamin C has helped alkaline my system.

Dear Pat: If I have a bladder infection or even a kidney problems, yes, vitamin C and citric acid is not helpful. But it is NOT the vitamin C or the citric acid being the problem. It is the pH of the things you are consuming. In event of this problem (uti), the pH should be over 8.

Vitamin C are of two types and people tend to lump them all together. One is the ascorbic acid which is acid and tends to promote bacteria growth by acidity. A sodium ascorbate vitamin C has a pH of about 8 and it prevents bacterial growth. A vitamin C can be both a pro-oxidant and an anti-oxidant depending on the pH. Vitamin C is a two edge sword. If the vitamin C is acid, it is a pro-oxidant. If the vitamin C is alkalline it is an anti-oxidant.

Citric acid and sodium citrate are very different, but chemically they are the similar in most ways, but at different pH.

When a baking soda is reacted with citric acid, it becomes sodium citrate and its pH is over 8. So in event of a kidney and bladder infection whatever you eat, its pH should be 8, or at least 7.

How do I know this is the issue. You mentioned you were helped with baking soda and ACV. The pH is about 7, but if reacted long enough it is between 7.5 to 8.0

It is the same with the other ones. It helps therefore to get a good pH paper and measure it and make sure it is alkaline and pH is about 8 in event of an infection.

Sea salt -- 1 teaspoon one dose only in one glass of water usually will kill the bladder infection. But for tough cases take this along with cranberry juice and some baking soda to increase the alkalinity of cranberry juice to about pH of 8. Sea salt pH is quite often pH is between 7.5 to 8.5. A good quality sea salt will have a pH of 8, a very bad one I have seen (overprocessed overpurified) can be as low as 6. A good sea salt is light brown and never bleached white.

I've been taking vitamin C crystals and vitamin C powder alternately for quite some time now. i take it everyday together with vit.E. So far i haven't noticed any significant improvement as to my susceptibility to upper respiratory illnesses is concerned. My concern right now is my gaining of weight. which is very visible due to my increased body weight and size. i am not sure if it is really the pure vit.C (2-4 500mg capsules a day) that has caused the weigh increase but the time i started gaining weigh and taking pure vit.C came at the same time.

The vitamin C depends on the TYPE OF VITAMIN C you are taking. There is the acid form and there is an alkaline form. The acid form of ascorbic acid will cause weight gain, while the alkaline form of vitamin C sodium ascorbate will cause a weight loss. An easy way to check is to add baking soda to the powdered vitamin C in to the glass of water. If there is a fizz, then it is an acid form. It appears you took an acid form of vitamin C. The biggest secret to weight loss is whether the food you are taking causes your urine to be acid or alkaline. This is the most effective method I have seen yet towards weight loss (plus the borax), but this remedy will never be as a well known weight loss as Dr. Atkins, but in practice, the acid/alkaline issue appears to be the foundation towards weight loss

Side Effects
Posted by David (Elkton, MD) on 11/18/2008

Also, 2-4 500mg capsules a day is not enough to affect your respiratory health. Vitamin C will not significantly affect your respiratory heath until you take 10 to 20 times more per day. You have to reach your therapeutic threshold for it to have any effect, otherwise you are mostly wasting vitamin C. You receive all the nutritional benefits at the concentrations you're using, but that will be useless for therapeutic effect.

In short, it is not advisable to megadose Vitamin C to prevent respiratory problems as the required concentrations are just too much for many people. Continue taking them at your current levels for general nutrition, but if respiratory problems get back start megadosing (15 to 100 grams / day), using bowel titration as your guide. Do a search for ascorbate bowel titration for more info. When your condition has alleviated go back to the low doses of 1-2 grams/day.

Sue, are you sodium sensitive? I experienced weight gain as well when I was adding baking soda to the ACV. I would gain several pounds overnight. I determined it was from the baking soda - it was water weight from the sodium portion of the baking soda.

My mother's side of the family had always reacted this way to sodium and I am the same. My only choice has been to reduce the baking soda, and use it with the ACV just some of the time. I probably only add it 2 or 3 times a week now. The rest of the time I take the ACV with just water.

I've noticed that although Ted suggests adding baking soda to ACV, EarthClinic does not recommend it as many report issues from the baking soda. Hope this helps you.

Linda :-)

Ascorbic is acid forming and calcium ascorbate while alkaline tends to cause bloating also. The preferred form is ascorbic acid, powdered, then add baking soda until the fizz stops then add a pinch of potassium bicarbonate then add some water. This is alkaline forming and free of calcium. Calcium is often use for weight gain and is not recommended if you have bloating problems. Bloating problems is acid forming and ascorbic acid is never really recommended and this is why baking soda is always added. I found alkaline supplements of boron (in form of borax pH= 8) or baking soda (with pinch of potassium bicarbonate), quite often lead to weight loss since the food spends less time in digesting and therefore weight loss and bloating is reversed. Usually at least 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to 1/2 glass of water taken twice a day on an empty stomach will often quite slowly cause the body to be more alkaline and reduce bloating, however it is best to monitor the urinary pH and vary the dosage accordingly within the 6.5- 7.35 pH range. Most people who are constipated and bloating are quite often the urinary pH is often below 5.5 if they do have problems.

One of your writers stated that while on mega doses of vitamin C he landed himself in the hospital for an imbalance of other minerals. However, he does not say what he considered a mega dose. NOR does he mention how long he had been taking this 'mega dose'. Some people think that anything over the RDA is a mega dose. I read about a doctor/researcher who would give up to 200 milligrams per day. I, myself just finished taking 3 teaspoons/12,000 milligrams AND yet another guy, that just posted here, stated that a mere 5,000-10,000 milligrams a day are helping a woman who has (what doctors had told her was) terminal lung cancer. He thinks these are mega doses. So again, what is 'considered' a mega dose?

I too experienced something like the above post in my case it was very odd and scary palpitations. After going to the doctor several times and being in the emergency room more than once I lowered the C and things started to get better. I had EKG's performed and wore a halter monitor but of course over the 24 hours period I wore the monitor nothing happened. I found more information on the internet about this before but I can't remember where. At the time of problem I was taking 5-15 grams a day of chewable sodium ascorbate with 1 gram of sugar in it (unfortunately). I now take 2-6 grams a day of pure powder ascorbic acid and I always try to take it with a meal and a cookie. :) In addition I supplement with 250mg-600mg of magnesium.

Jacqueline do you mean 200 grams? 200 milligrams is not that much.

HI U TIMH, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Thank your for responding. Few realize how important this process is. I am starting with Vit C, but know I must go to Gluthathione and others.

As you know, I's not PC . I cannot tolerate ignorance, and this site has a bunch takers. I appreciate the bosses allowing me to express my mind.

I have already made my stuff and will venture further. I have spent a fortune doing IV's and now we have a Liposperic and it is far more effective and for pennies.

Give me a break. =====OLE R H===

HI U TIMH, , , , , , , , ,

I am a novice at this and have only made one batch of Vit C. I have read of glutathione and Alpha Liopic Acid and some say they can all be combined. Do you know if that is so and how is that done? The internet sites are not specific. Everyone is scared of Big Brother so you have to read between the lines. Is this a sick way to live or what?

As a freshman at Ga Tech in '54 we had to read the book 1984 and it is all coming to past. Nobody trusts nobody. The novel has arrived. I am just glad that I am on the shady side of the mountain and regret that the youngsters will reap the rewards of what our lack of courage has done to them.

HI U TIMH, , , , , , , , , as you know I've been into alternative stuff for 10 years or so, but new to Lyposperic . This is truly fascinating to me because these are products are difficult to get into your system orally . For instance, magnesium. If I do that orally then I camp in the John for a day or so. I take the MIT brand and do transdermal spraying before my FIR saunas. Oh, after my crushed vertebrae last Feb, my lymph system is in the dog house so my feet and ankles are always swollen, so I also skin brush before my morning ritual. Learned that skin brushing is a science in itself. It is all gentle and toward your heart. I had it all wrong for many years.

Here is my question. Vit C is a great anti-oxidant as all know. Glutathione can cross the blood brain barrier so that is what my integrative doctor recommends for his Alzheimers and dementia patients. He has done wonders with it, but it is expensive. I presume you do the reduced product. Prior to learning of Lypospheric we did the IV and the suppository. Taking Glutathione orally is a waste of time and money.

You say you mix both Vit C and Glutathione together in your lypo mixture. For my Vit C , I mix two tbsp with one cup of distilled warm water ; next I take 6 tbsp of Soy Lecithin with two cups of distilled warm water. Put them in a blender and mix for a minute and then put them in the jewelry cleaner for 8 minutes and constantly stir. Refrigerate and take 2 tbsps 2 or 3 times a day.

How would you modify this procedure and add Glutathione ? Will dance at your next wedding if you can help me. I was the medicine man in the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow and did the Fire Dance to begin the ceremony . Also did a mean beach Shag as a Frat boy back in the 50's, so we can boogie with the best at Myrtle Beach.

Thanks for your help.

HI U TIMH, , , , , , Just a note to let you know that I have completed my first batch and am excited to be able to do this at home instead of doing the 2+ hour expensive IV's in a doctor's office.

Have located a supplier of R Alpha Liopic Acid, so I'm in high cotton. Soon the natural folks will have a simple cancer cure. There are cancer cures now, but they are not so simple. Mine took 7 months, but I am not fussing.

Icandoit: Thanks for your informative post, and welcome to E.C.!!!

When you say you've added MSM to the mix does this mean you are liposoming it w/ the C? I have been Liposoming sence Sept 2013 and have made the logical conclusion that it is simply a waste of time & resources to liposome a nutrient that is easily absorbed thru oral intake ie the gut. MSM is a very absorbable and biologically active form of Sulfur which will probably not need to be Liposome encapsulated.

As for adding power to the Lipo-C (which is what I assume you are attempting) I have been adding about 1 grm Rutin and 1grm Quercetin to augment the overall antioxidant qualities of C.

As for Lipo GTH, I have found no other form of CoQ10 or Ubiquinol near as effective as combined w/ GTH for lipo encapsulation. Your energy levels will greatly increase. This method is more proof of the very poor absorption of both GTH & Ubiquinol. In my estimate, the lipospheric GTH/CoQ10 combo is off-the-charts better absorbed & utilized. Suffering a broad spectrum toxicity issues, I had to significantly decrease this lipospheric GTH/CoQ10 as these nutrients are not effective against pathologic infection. I am slowly increasing this combo w/ good results. Mixing ratios may differ, but I am finding 50/50 OK.

I read a lot about liposomal vitamin c and its benefits. So I prepared it with soy lecithin and had it for 15 days. But my allergies increased and then I realised it may be due to soy lecithin. I am also estrogen dominant. So I stopped using soy lecithin. So anyone can please suggest me another kind of lecithin which does not increase estrogen. I heard about sunflower lecithin too. But I don't know whether it is estrogenic like soy. It is of great help to me if some one can enlighten me regarding this preparation of liposomal vitamin C.

Nickie,

As you look around for an ultrasonic cleaner, perhaps what I learned will be of help. Many cleaners shut off at three minutes. I would avoid those as they're not made to run continuously for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Also, most small ultrasound units don't have a removable tank. The transducer is attached to the tank like a coil to a loudspeaker cone. On your smaller units, the entire machine must be picked up and tilted to pour out the contents. There's no pouring lip so pouring can be messy. When pouring your mixture from the cleaner, pour quickly into a wide container or bowl. Then pour from there into your storage container. Also, the timer indicates how durable the unit is. Mine is only a 35 Watt unit with a variable timer that runs up to 8 minutes. I sometimes have to process the lecithin for half an hour per batch. To keep the level in the tank around inch deep, as recommended, on a small unit like mine, that means splitting the batch into two. Run one batch of 6 to 8 ounces for half an hour, then let the cleaner cool for at least half an hour, then run your second batch. The small units are not meant to run for long periods of time. Low power units have to run longer and at a shallower depth to make good liposomal C. In my opinion, both units from Harbor Freight that are mentioned in the Bradley recipes are of too low a wattage. They will burn out sooner because you have to process longer than they were designed for.

Amazon now offers a 1.4 liter 60 watt unit with a 30 minute timer which leads me to think it's more durable than most low power units. If I had a choice today that is what I'd buy. Around $58 including shipping.

On larger units, a tank is filled with water and the container with the lecithin in it is set in that. Heavy duty ultrasound units have heaters built in, jewelry cleaners don't. Watch the temperature, warm is good, hot is not. If your unit has a heater and the solution starts to get too warm, place your container in an ice bath to cool it down so you can keep processing it in one operation.

I wish you great success,

Heinz

I make my own lyposomal Vit C with an inexpensive ultrasonic jewelry cleaner.

  • Mix together in a blender: 1 cup distilled or RO water, and 3 Tbls. sunflower lecithin (I avoid soy but it can also be used).
  • Blend until dissolved.
  • Mix together: 1/2 Cup water with 1 Tbls. powdered pure vitamin C and add to blender.
  • Blend again.
  • Pour into the sonic cleaner for 6 to 10, 3 minute rounds, (total of 18-30 minutes until no more or just a little foam remains on top) stirring with a straw or plastic spoon slowly to move the mixture around.
  • The longer it is in the sonic cleaner, the more encapsulation will occur.
  • Store in the refrigerator.
  • (Some instructions include baking soda for a more alkaline solution. )

Thanks for the heads up Wayseeker. I have read Linus Paulings books in the past, and found them very informative. I "googled" The Healing Factor and read the book you suggested by Irwin Stone.

The timing for me to read about Vitamin C again couldn't have been any better. The day before your post I had had a fever of 102 and was feeling like total DEATH. I NEVER get fevers, not ever, so this was total trauma for me... Body aches, shivers, joint pain... even my skin hurt! It was awful.

I started drinking "Emergen-C" in bottled water at the rate of one an hour (maybe a bit more) and over that day I had 10 packets. Each packet has 1, 000mg of vitamin C. I was going to take it until I got diarrhea, but that never happened. What DID happen was that I GOT OUT OF BED THE NEXT DAY! It was truly amazing. I thought I was going to die, and the next day I am out of bed? I credit it all to the high dose of vitamin C that I ingested over those critical 10 hours. Apparently I never even reached my saturation point, as I never had diarrhea.... Theory says I could have taken even more of it!

I have always believed in Vitamin C.... But had "only" been taking about one pack of the Emergen-c a day lately. What I took away from reading the book you suggested by Irwin Stone is that if humans were still able to produce their own vitamin C as almost every other mammal does (with exception of the apes and guinea pigs of course) that we would be producing between 3-5 grams a day! I now intend to take at least three grams of C (in divided doses) a day to keep my body saturated!

So much information on all of the benefits of C in his book.... Just a fascinating read. It was very nice of his family to allow it to be put online for free.

Much gratitude to them, and to you for suggesting it!

Side effects from taking large dosages of vitamin C can be ameliorated by combining equal parts liposomes with vitamin C in 1 cup of water and then put in a blender on high for 2 or so minutes. Drink the resulting beverage and it will rapidly assimilate into your body with no diarrhea.

The reason for the diarrhea is from poor absorbtion. Excess vitamin C creates an osmotic gradient that pulls water into the intestines resulting in diarrhea and the associated cramps.

Vitamin C is very safe, the LD50 for it roughly translates to 850 grams (just under 1 kilogram or roughly 1 pound) for an average person.

All animals (except for guinea pigs, bats, and primates) produce their own vitamin C. Humans and primates utilize uric acid for a reducing agent/antioxidant in lieu of it. So perhaps less is needed, but looking at the amount of vitamin C produced naturally by animals it would translate to 1400mg per day for an average person. This is recognized for guinea pigs whose commercially prepared food contains that amount (scaled down for size of course). Yet for us humans the recommended daily allowance is only 75-90mg, 15 times less than what other animals naturally produce. The recommended dosage will prevent scurvy, but you're unlikely to thrive on that small amount.

Excitotoxins in Vitamin C

WARNING!

I have tried to follow Ted's advice for Parkinson's sufferers by taking Methylene Blue and Soluble Vitamin C.

I was only able to obtain Effervescent vit C, and my palette told me that it contained saccharin. Eventually, I got around to reading - with the aid of a magnifying glass - the ingrediants list, and was horrified to find that under the subheading of 'Sweetener' was listed, Saccharin, Sorbitol, and ASPARTAME - an acknowleged nuro-toxine, and dangerous to PD sufferes, among others.

The supplier, I trusted, and was Holland & Barett. However, they are not alone in selling this product - several other outlets also sell the 'contaminated' effervescent Vit C - listing the same 3 sweeteners, but in different orders (highest content is first, etc.)

Now starts the epic search of the net for another product - I have already been offered "Sugar Free" (Aspartame loaded) products from reputable suppliers.

Wish me luck, and Thanks, Ted

Alan.

Excitotoxins in Vitamin C

Hi Fabricio, Sorry for not replying earlier. I have located pure Ascorbic Acid - from Holland & Barrett, would you believe!!! a 170g bottle for 6. Needs only 1/4 teaspoonful to give a tad over 1000mg. I disolve the crystals in tepid water to ensure complete disolution, adding cold water, then the Methylene Blue.

Thanks for your interest.

Regards, Alan

You can use this in recipes to add a bit of tang. It is the other ingredient used with mms. I would not use it as a supplement. It is great for adding high notes to soups or meat dishes where tomatoes are used or in sauces.

Vitamin C side effects

I have been taking 1/2 teaspoon Vit C Ascorbic Acid with 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda with a few oz of pineapple juice 2 times per day. After a few days I woke up with really sharp pain in my bladder area, and then following day pain in my leftside kidney. Can Vitamin C cause kidney stones? Is this too much Vit C?
