I am wondering if anyone else had a similar reacation. I used 3 tbs of borax powder in 500cc 3% h2O2 and 1000cc water.
Can anyone suggest what needs to be done next? I have tried one amitraz dip previously which also made her skin situation get worse and I discontinued.
I thought the borax h2o2 was safe. Then why did this happen. Please advise

Dear All,
after reading such positive feedback on this website for the above treatment for demodex mange. I decided to apply this on my 2 year old femal pitbul who had lost all her hair on her muzzle, around the eyes and was no longer responding to ivomec, lime sulphur dips. I tried amitraz once on her and she did not react well to is, so you can imagine my excitement to find the borax h2o2 cure. I did the dip as advised however the next day my dog's entire face was 5 times its original size and she was oozing blood from her eyelids, ears, muzzle.
She had such a bad reaction to this treatment that I would like to warn anyone new who would be tempted to try this. No wonder we never hear about this treatment anywhere else except this particular website. I would discourage people from trying treatments like I did without my vet's approval. The first thing I did was to give her a bath and make sure that the deadly mixture was out of her fur and body as much as possible. I then rushed her to the vet where she is being treated but she looks bad. If I could post a photograph of her on this site, you would know the before and after.

Coco from Lahore; I can attest that this method has worked for me and many of my pets, is it possible that you did some thing wrong? or maybe the dog just simply had a negative reaction to the use of borax & peroxide? it takes a lot of care and attention to do these methods. You were very fortunate to have had a great vet to run to as here in the USA they are all money grabbers and meat heads. Good luck with your dog.

Thanks Ted for your advice our dog has had mange on and off for a couple of years, the vet treatment hasnt really worked , the last time the pour on stuff seemed to make her ill.!! Anyway ive been trying your formula, ive learned its best to find a good hand sprayer as sponging ect not as effective, vegetable oil seemed to help it moisturized the skin, and is non toxic I used this a couple of days after the borax treatment. Ive also changed her diet, adding two fried eggs, and rice to her tinned meat, before she had the complete dry food. Ive also put her on allergy tablets, at the moment she seems alot better, mange is such a difficult thing to shift, one thing I know is the borax treatment definitely helps, we will have to wait and see whether it works long term. P

I'm sorry for the extra large print on my other post, I didn't realize it was on caps.
Well here I am again still at wits end with my kitty, she still has mange plus an upper respiratory condition, her eye is always runny and closed most times, she coughs and sneezes constantly, one right after another, almost like seizures. I was thinking of giving her back to the owner as he has many other cats, I don't feel this cat has a whole lot of a chance much less time, I have two itchy dogs. Two cats that are segregated from all the pets, but that will not prevent the spread of this mange. I am having severe illness issues myself where motivation is becoming weaker & can no longer walk unless I use a wheelchair. I cry at the thought of having to give her up because I know she is happy here and has shown some improvements as to her continued vomitting when she ate, she no longer does that.
I am hoping against time & hope that some one can give me some input? Thank you so much in advance.

The kitty with the URI its called the herpes virus "cat Flu" I found that the cats response great to lysine. I use the powdered kind. An eighth of a teas twice a day sprinkled over their food. She may need some silver for infection also. You can this to her eyes bc the virus affected the eyes with infection.

This is Feline Herpes, but it is not cat flu. I never heard of that one. Feline herpes is not curable but it is managable. Any stress will make your kitten have an episode of this. I once had a cat with this. All of the cats that that man had are infected. It is spread very easily. A vet can prescribe some things for helping through the episode. Once your kitten gets stressed again it will happen all over again. And since he already has mites on top of it... it's not looking good for him right now.

there are others using essential oils(peppermint oil--lavender oil) on their pets which is a severe case of not good for any animal it does severe damage to their liver. i'm sticking with ted's remedy because it does work well. in the past i have used mineral oil in my pets ears an haven't found any negative results as of yet. i wish you the best of luck and i do hope you don't give up on your pet. in the end the rewards are even greater. good luck ;o)

I agree. I've had some difficulty interpreting Ted's instructions as well; however, I do eventually figure them out and can use them. It helps to read some of the other posts. People who have used Ted's remedies successfully sometimes clarify the instructions.
To the reader who questioned whether this remedy would bleach a dog's hair: I don't believe it is supposed to bleach it. A 6% H2O2 solution is typically used to bleach human hair so 3% hydrogen peroxide thinned out to a 1% solution should theoretically be fine. Despite this, I used a 1% H2O2 solution and I still had a problem. I mixed the 3% H2O2 with distilled water in a ratio of 1 part H2O2 to 2 parts H2O or 500ml H2O2 to 1000ml of H2O. To this solution, I dissolved 3 tablespoons of Borax. The day after using this on my black cocker spaniel; I noticed that his jet black hair had started to turn red (auburn). I've asked if this is supposed to happen; however, no one has responded to my post yet. I've concluded, on my own, that a 1% H2O2 (3% thinned with 2 parts of water) can still bleach pet hair while a 6% solution is necessary to bleach human hair. I deduced this because I tried spraying my own, dark brown hair, with the same solution used on my spaniel and could not see a color change on my hair. On my dog, the color change is dramatic. Clearly, reducing the 3% H2O2 to 1% by adding twice as much H2O, was insufficient to prevent the hydrogen peroxide from lightening my dog's hair. I'm now substituting the H2O2 with Apple Cider Vinegar using the same ratio: 1 part ACV to 2 parts Water. I just started this today. I hope it works without any side effects.

Also, I found that it takes a lost less Borax to form a precipitate in hot water from the tap. If I first boil the water, it takes a lot more Borax to form a precipitate. Should I not boil the water first but just use hot water from the tap?
Another thing, my dog likes to lay next to me or on me when I am in bed. I have been finding what feels like grains of sand on my skin. It's not the Borax. Could these be eggs? They are very hard and very tiny. I don't know what color they are as I have yet to see one they are so tiny.

Hey Phyllis!
This is what I do to make up the mange remedy.
Ingredients:
Borax laundry booster - the plain stuff with NO scent.
1 -16 oz bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide
I get both of these from the grocery store.
Process:
Empty hydrogen peroxide into larger bottle - I use an empty 1 gallon vinegar jug. Add to this 32 oz filtered or distilled water - I just refill the hydrogen peroxide bottle twice - and dump into the jug. What this does is change your 3% hydrogen peroxide into 1% hydrogen peroxide.
Next add 1 cup of the borax crystals and shake. There should be some undissolved crystals in the mixed solution - this is just right. I try to use hot water from the kettle on the stove, that or sit the jug of mixture in the sink full of hot water while I bathe the dog.
NEXT:
Bathe the dog - use whatever shampoo and rinse well. Squeeze out excess water and make sure the tub is drained. I then plug up the tub. Now pour the mixed up solution over the dog. I use a small sponge to soak up the solution from the bottom of the tub and squeeze it out onto the dog again and again, making sure I get the head and underneath. Keep squeezing solution over and over onto the dog for about 15 minutes - 30 minutes is better. Then pull the stopper from the tub and let the excess drain. DO NOT DRY THE DOG OR RINSE THE DOG. The solution has to remain wet as it is still working. Allow the dog to air dry. I just pop mine into their crates and I remove any absorbent bedding.
If you are worried about poisoning your dog keep in mind that borax has the same toxicity as table salt. The solution doesn't seem to hurt the eyes or sting any sores on the skin. Some dogs feel instant relief!
Dip the dog once per week for 1 month and up to 2; 8 dips should resolve the mange and if it does not, then you likely are not dealing with mange.

I went online to research if there is a home remedy for his mange & I came across this website and read Teds mange cure. I went out and had to find borax but couldnt find it anywhere so I just ordered online and hopefully it will be here by tomorrow. I already bought hydrogen peroxide & a measuring cup. I read positive feedbacks from people that used the solution.. & I will definitely gonna try it to my dog and have our whole house disinfected using the solution.... I will post again soon...

If you go to page 7 under this topic you'll see my before and after pictures of Ruff. It's been a while back but I believe I had to submit them to the owner or cantacted her first and got permission. As you can see it really helped him. The sad thing is he came back from the vets with this. I just took my mini border collie two weeks ago and he's never had one flea or chewed himself. He now has both. I so wish I'd never taken him for his shots and allowed them to put chemicals inside his little body. Rabie shots are all that's required and all he'll ever get again. That's why I'm here looking for a remedy for this. I feel so sorry for him. Good luck with your dog.

To enhance the exterior treatment of the Mange, strengthen the dogs immune system. The best way to do this is to take your dog off dry kibble and feed them strictly raw food diet for a few months. There are some very good suppliers who deliver the food frozen. You can make your own, but strictly follow a recipe designed by a vet, because the fat and vitamin balance is critical.
When I rescued my dog.... she got a raw food diet for 4 months and it converted a sad looking dog to a well muscled gleamingly healthy dog that looks much younger than she is.
Raw food is expensive, but vet bills more so.

Hi ted few simple questions, you mentioned that one can use vinegar to replace hydrogen peroxide 1% with the Borax treatment for mite. Do I dilute it or use it as it is , and if so how much do I need. Is it as effective as h peroxide 1%. Ps would the h peroxide not slightly bleach the hair. Also can I may be use about 1/2 a cup of borax in the bath for the kids, may be with some lavender to ease possioble irittations , or would the borax be too harsh for their skin
We were infected few times over the years. The different treatment that worked from homeopathic (it was sulfur and cant spell the other one personium or somethinglike that), triphala , and permethirine , they would not work the second time round even at one point with a 3 year gap. this time we tried more permethitrine x 7 times , chinease tea and spregal spray and I became really ill after that treatment I did use that spray a few times on me
We also tried lot of other things like neem tea tree, salt, bleach( but only on me) , some indian oil , rosmary , mint, ext they only ease , however the lavender is great at stopping the itch.
alas this time round I have a severe allergic reaction to them, I have been suffering from urticaria and odiuma (swelling of eyes, mouth )ext great and taking lots of different anti histamin with marginal success , thats all my dermotolgest gives me. by the way has it effected anybody else like that.
