This has been the most effective cure for congestion and sinus infection I have found to date.

Use a saline wash (Neti Pot) with 1/4 teaspoom of non-idodized salt + 1/8 teaspoon of powdered grapefruit seed extract (found in vitamin/health store).

Chew two cloves of garlic twice daily. It helps to drain the sinuses. Garlic contains Allicin, a broad spectrum antibiotic. It's antiviral and antibacterial, as well as anti-microbial.

Drink mugs of steaming hot chicken soup. It's comforting and hydrating and helps to loosen mucous.

Take a teaspoonful of honey before bed to soothe sore throat and reduce coughing. This is amazing--something that tastes great and really works!

Eat two-three oranges or tangerines daily.

Keep up your circulation by walking lightly daily (20 minutes) at the tail end of your cold. Increased circulation boosts the immune system and stimulates the lymph nodes to produce the killer white blood cells.

Drink a healthful smoothie of pineapple juice, strawberries and blueberries to strengthen your immune system.

DO NOT eat anything fatty or fried foods that could plug up your digestive system. If you cramp up and get constipated you slow down your recovery from a cold or sinus infection.

I think the ACV is great for thinning mucous of a sinus infection, but it hasn't worked well for an infection that has been going on for a number of days. I just got back from an 8 day trip and the plane (going and coming) reaked havoc on my congested sinus passages. While I was out of town, I stopped by a Whole Foods and got some acv to take. I kept my pH alkaline by sipping some acv in a water bottle every 5-10 minutes. It certainly made my nose run! I also squirted 3% hydrogen peroxide from a nasal spray bottle up each nostril... just one squirt. It burned like crazy for a minute, but definitely helped. When things got stirred up again after flying home, I decided to up my water intake (One glass of water every 2 hours), take oregano oil (to fight the infection), and one turmeric capsule (to reduce inflammation). The wild oregano oil turned my thick yellow mucous to clear in about an hour. I will continue all of this (lots of water, turmeric, oregano oil, acv) until the infection is gone. Lot of hard work to clobber the infection, but better than antibiotics. Which isn't to say I would refuse antibiotics if I really needed them! But if I don't have to, I don't.

Update to my post: The remedies worked in less than 24 hours! My sinus infection is completely gone. I am guessing the Oregano Oil killed off the infection, but all the water that I drank helped keep the mucous flowing, rather than stuck in the back of my sinus passages causing increasing pain.

Thank you so much for this web site. I found a great treatment for recurrent sinus infection. I emptied a little nasal spray bottle to put my own concoction. I filled it about 1/3 of the way with water-added about 1/8 tsp. salt, one drop of oil of oregano, and one drop of Apple Cider Vinegar. I spray this up my nose several times a day. In two days, my sinuses and cleared up!

I've had chronic sinus problems since I was a teenager (now 30 years old). I've had sinus inflammation for a few years that has been difficult to manage. A month ago, it progressed into a raging sinus infection. The past week has been horrible. I've had a ton of sinus pressure, headache, dizzy/foggy head, congested ears, and the wonderful yellow/green mucus. I cannot take antibiotics due to other health issues, but I've tried just about everything I could think of including OTC remedies and many natural remedies.

I just came across this Apple Cider Vinegar rinse and thought I'd try. I've been irrigating with salt water, but have not added the ACV. Last night, I added ACV to my rinse. I use the NeilMed Sinus Rinse bottle. WHOA! The amount of green crud that left my face was incredible. And I could actually breathe again. Got clogged again overnight, so did it again in the morning. Same story. Tons of green junk left my nose. There is a definite improvement, and I will continue doing this.

Bonus... the chronic ear pain I've had for two years straight is greatly reduced since doing the ACV rinse. We will see what the future holds for this! So far I'm impressed.

I am an asthmatic and an allergy sufferer. My allergies trigger my asthma. Usually after a cold I ALWAYS get bronchitis. It just never fails. I could never get rid of a cold because the mucus would build up into a sinus infection. After I start using organic ACV I started noticing that it helped me breathe better.

My health insurance rates went up this year so I decided to try and find cures for ailments without running to the doctor, so I decided to try what I read on here, an ACV sinus wash/rinse. the first time I tried pouring 1/4 tsp into the netty pot with 8 oz sterile water and a salt packet from the drug store, I went a little too much on the ACV. I accidentally dropped quite a splash in there, didn't really know how much went in. Well, it BURNED and I was so desperate for relief I just toughed it out. Well, it cleaned me completely out. That night I slept great and within 2 days I was clear. I did it 2 nights in a row, just before bed.

Then I got sick again, but this time I poured some ACV into a cup, the scooped out 1/4 tsp into my sterile salted water and it was not painful at all, didn't clear it up as quickly as it did when I used more ACV, but as long as I do it in the morning and at night, it keeps me feeling better, until I clear up on my own.

I also use a cotton swab and dip it in the ACV and clean my ears, because usually I get an ear infection along with my sinus infection. I just dip the swab in the vinegar and make sure it is completely drenched because I really want the ACV to get in my ear and travel up some, maybe even put a drop or two in there if possible.

This is not really a miracle cure (though for me it seems like it), but it makes life easier so that you can function while giving your body time to heal itself without the need of antibiotics.

My son (7yrs old) had a really bad sinus infection that was causing a fever really bad snoring and over all discomfort. Had this 2 days. Over the counter meds would not work. He has had this before in the past and the doctor would prescribe anti bionics. Doctors have there place, but I'm sick and tired of the meds they push. We decided to take the natural route this time around. I searched the net, found this site. Ill keep this short, but I performed a sinus rinse on my son. I took a "Netti Pot" with a little over 8oz of warm distilled water. added 1 packet of the sodium stuff and 1 tbl spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. His fever broke the same night and it appeared to knock his infection out. He sleeps much better now. I also have my son drink ACV...1 TBS with warm water and honey like a tea. Keep in mind, anytime you do a sinus rinse, use distilled water. If your child has sinus, allergy or asthma issues, I highly recommend a sinus rinse at least 3 days a week even if they are fine. Never use more that 1 tbl on a child for a rinse. Stings! I always test on myself before application for temp of water and sting factor of ACV. Add more water if you feel the sting is a bit much for your child.

After doing this, we were able to get globs of bacteria ridden snot out of my child's nose. I know most of you will have hell doing a rinse on a child. My son is an avid swimmer. He also accompanies me when I spearfish in the salt waters of Baja Mexico. He's use to salt water, in and out of his nose. But I encourage you to keep trying. It does work. It is truly amazing to see something so common and available work so quickly. I was so impressed with the results, I had to post hoping this remedy can help others. If you have never used a Netti Pot. please follow the instructions thoroughly. Try it on yourself first to get the technique own. Most pots can be brought at a local convience store with a pharmacy section.Pots come with packets of sodium that I used. I also added the ACV for more potency. Based on my observation, the ACV was the key factor in the rinse. The sodium alone didn't have as dramatic an effect.

You mentioned to try the solution from the neti pot on yourself first because sometimes it can sting. The only reason it would ever sting is if you have too much salt and then it will steer you away FOREVER. The best advice and porportions are to never use more than exactly 1/2 teaspoon of salt to 2 cups (16 oz.) of the purest water you can get (distilled, boiled tap, purified) and use 1/2 tsp total of soda. That way it will never ever burn or sting. Hope this helpd too. The Neti pot has been a well hidden secret for far too long.

If you read the label on those "sodium"packs, it is actually baking soda and salt. Since we use "salt sense" genuine salt, but powdered (you will use less on food) combining this powdered salt with an equal amount of baking soda, duplicates the packets that come with Netty Pots.

I wondered about adding Apple Cider Vinegar or white vinegar to the netty pot solution, and you have confirmed for me that it is a good answer to a sinus infection.

Thank you.

Olbas oil prevents sinus infections. I used to get sinus infections all the time due to perfumes in the office I work in but since using the inhalant, I haven't had one. It's made up of essential oils of peppermint, eucalyptus, cajeput, wintergreen, juniper and clove.

Hi Valeria - Since that was an old post (2007), the person may not respond. Olbas actually has an inhalant that you can get at any health food store that sells Olbas oil. It's very similar in style to the Vicks inhalant (it's a little tube with an opening that you put up one nostril and breathe deeply) - except Olbas has a different blend of oils (more natural). If you can't find it, you can also put a couple of drops of Olbas oil on a piece of tissue, cup it around your nose and breathe deeply (I do this sometimes when I fly to avoid congestion). Good luck! The best and only cure that worked for my lifelong, formerly constant, miserable, life-controlling and debilitating sinus infections is inexpensive Olive Leaf. I make tea from it (boil about a shotglass-full or less of dried leaves in 2 cups water for 20 minutes - it makes one cup of tea). It is also available at health stores in powder, capsule, tincture and supercritical gel cap form. I find tea the most effective, but have had great results with any decent, reputable brand. Olive leaf is known as a wide-spectrum godsend for many, many illnesses and infections from mild to severe to dangerous. I have always found it easy to look up on the web. It is an ancient tried-and-true herb with a fascinating history, reported to give no side effects except a slight lowering of blood pressure and a non-stimulant mild increase in energy (probably due to its elimination of infectious forces in the body). Take it slow at first if you are highly and chronically infected, so you don't get a big healing crisis/die-off reaction. Dosages are available in books and websites, but you can take it every day (I usually do), and it is reported to be impossible to overdose on it -- I feel lightheaded if I take more than 4-6 cups in a day (a very large amount which I'd only use if severely ill) and I am a small individual. It seems to be a best-kept secret, so spread the word and many blessings!

I have has the worst sinus infection since january, had antibiotics 4 times, tried every cure under the sun, i had read about onion juice and another said carrot juice so thought, well i will give them both a try together. i cannot believe within an hour of drinking them the pressure had gone, the onion juice i got by boiling a heap of onions until soft mash them then sieve them, i bought carrot juice but now juice my own, am still drinking it and i think i will have at least one cup of this a day for ever , it actually tasted quite nice which surprised me, i also add tomato juice just for a bit of flavour, and sometimes when boiling the onions i put in a couple of cloves of garlic, next stop for me was the hospital, but what i believe is, there are a lot of cures and only one will work for you, but which one?

Hi everyone, I SWEAR BY THIS METHOD... Six years ago I came to Earth Clinic looking for a cure for my recurring Sinus infections that constantly left me with a feeling of phlegm being trapped at the back of my throat... I read a posting from someone and this was the remedy he posted on Earth Clinic... It has worked for me for the past 6 years and I do not have that phlegm or recurring sinuses anymore! Here is the remedy:

1. Go to Kroger, buy a nasal spray, empty nasal spray bottle and clean it out with water and soap.

2. Add a little water to nasal spray bottle

3. Add a little pinch of sea salt to water in bottle

4. Add a half capful of Oregano Juice

5. Stick nasal spray in nostril and inhale it, while you spray at the same time. Breathe in hard so that it reaches the Sinus or Nasal Cavity, where all the congestion is. (This is going to burn and your eyes will water, your nose will run instantly so get some tissue to wipe your nose and eyes! )

If it burns too much then it might be too strong. Try putting less Oregano Juice or add more water. You also don't want it to be too weak! The Burning is good, it works and it really burns the infection or bugs, whatever! I have used this for the past 6 years, I have told all my friends about it. I use it on my daughter whenever she comes down with a sinus infection... No more doctors office, no more antibiotics!

Also if it is a serious sinus infection that develops into a Bronchial or chest infection, then chopped up Garlic cloves in a glass of water will help clear up the Bronchial Phlegm or Garlic capsules, which will be less potent. But you will also need to take the oregano spray to take care of the Nasal congestion... In addition, if there is a suspected Ear infection or Drainage as well, you will need to put Hydrogen Peroxide drops in the ear and that will address the ears... All these things, to address the infected and congested Ears, Nose and Throat or Chest! If it gets that far...

For sinus infection one can try adding one (at most two) drops of peppermint oil to a salt solution with a squeeze bottle, not the neti pot. One drop of peppermint oil can be added to saline sprays also for ongoing maintenance.

Povidone Iodine “the Silver Bullet” Nasal Irrigation for Chronic Sinus Infection

Great, I started off the 2021 spring season with a horrendous sinus infection when the tree's started to pollen. I've been struggling with my sinuses for a few months. I'm normally ahead of the season drinking gallons of nettle tea to help cope with the pollen but got off to a late start and the season came early.

I ended up with blood coming out in my snot. Pain around my eye orbits and cheeks, top of my teeth hurt, drainage in the back of my throat, both ears had fluid, etc... There was no way the antibiotic was going to work fast enuff to heal my sinus infection. It would have cost a small fortune and the doctors in my area are dumda$$'s. So, here is what I did.

I bought a bottle of Povidone Iodine 10% (PVP-I) and started using it as a nasal flush, but not as a neti-pot flush like most people including me are taught to do.

The nasal cavities in your head are very vast with pockets where infection and polyps can grow. Here is a video to show you.

Tour of the Nasal Passages 3D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5vDsPUpOGg

How to make the PVP-I solution:

- Add 1 1/2 ounces of distilled saline water to a clean cup.

- Add 1 teaspoon Povidone Iodine 10% (If you want a stronger solution to deal with candida infection simply add more PVP-I but never more than 1:1 ratio, see chart below)

- Stir mixture is ready to use. It won't take much solution to do one treatment.

How to use it:

A web tutorial by DMRPub gave me the idea but my sinus issues mainly were pain in the forehead and behind/between the eyes with fever and a lot of nasal congestion and nasal swelling. His technique was not helping me.

DMRPub sources: https://www.dmrpublications.com/2018/01/natural-sinus-infection-remedy/

A “neti-pot” sinus rinse will never get into the Frontal Sinus Cavities (located behind the eyebrows) or the Sphenoid or the Ethmoid Sinus Cavities (located between the eyes). The main reason is because your head is tilted to the side. Water flows in the direction of gravity. Saline from a neti-pot will go in one nostril, make a turn downward with gravity around the nasal cavities turbinates and out the other nostril. It never makes it into the frontal and sphenoid cavities. If your infection resides in those cavities, this technique will NEVER WORK.

A new technique to ensure that you reach these cavities plus the nasal larynx area is to stand in front of the kitchen sink and look up at the ceiling and inject the PVP-I diluted solution into each nostril using a “Kids Oral Medicine Dropper for Kids/Toddlers 5ml”.

While keeping my head tilted up, repeat injecting the solution into each nostril at least 2-3x til the solution comes pouring out of my nostrils. This will ensure that the disinfectant will reach all the cavities and pockets in your sinuses. This also reaches the back of the nasal larynx where infection causes chronic sinus drainage.

Once my sinus cavities are filled up. I roll my head to the left and right to ensure the liquid reaches all the cavities in my cheekbones. Then lean my head forward over the sink and allow the PVP-I liquid to drain out naturally. Blowing my nose to get any thick mucus out. Then I repeat again until all the PVP-I solution in the cup is all gone. I repeat this 2 to 3x a day.

I am now into day 5 and I have no fever in my forehead. Breathing thru my nasal passages are clearer. A little bit of drainage but on a scale of 1-10 I would say I'm at about 8. I will continue this for another 5 days to completely clear up my sinuses since this was the worst I've ever had it and I now know how to fix them. I've never been a big fan of oral antibiotic since every time I taken them. My digestive tract will be screwed-up for a month afterward, and I always develop candida infection from antibiotic use.

The money I saved for a doctor visit for people without insurance cost between $50-$200 or more. No insurance allergy shot cost $100. No insurance for antibiotics cost $30 for amoxicillin or $150 for doxycycline.

Cost of Povidone Iodine 4oz $4. Kids oral syringe $2. Distilled water $1. Sea salt and baking soda to make saline water free (already had).

Povidone-iodine (PVP-I) is a broad-spectrum antiseptic with activity against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. It has been previously used in both intranasal preparations against Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) as well as oral preparations in in-vitro studies of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), influenza H1N1, and rotavirus with good efficacy. This study will evaluate the efficacy of PVP-I as prophylaxis in Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID19)-negative front-line health care workers and hospital patients.

Iodine is a deadly enemy of single cell microorganisms thus it can be our best friend in our fight against the most dangerous pathogens. Nature and evolution have given us an important mechanism to control pathogenic life forms and we should use it and trust it to protect us in ways that antibiotics can't.

Source: http://hbnshow.com/moreinfo/swine_flu_treatments.pdf page 14.

Iodine is able to penetrate quickly through the cell walls of microorganisms.

Find an image of the structure of your sinuses. Do a regular neti pot rinse, blow your nose really well, then do another neti pot rinse with a purchased probiotic nasal rinse, tipping your head around, as per the structure, being sure to bend over forward AND tip your head back - as well as tipping side to side from all positions - straight, bent over and with your head tipped back. Do that to distribute it throughout the sinus passages. You'll feel it. Just keep rinsing, stopping to tip your head around, then keep rinsing and doing that until the pot is empty.

I've had 3 sinus "things" since I had "the" bug three years ago and this time, it rapidly began migrating to my lungs but this stopped it. I only did it one time, before bed, and bronchial tubes and lungs were both clear by morning. Sinuses still a bit stuffy but I used just a very tiny pinch of probiotics from a capsule. I'm going to try some cultivated microbes I'm currently preparing as I suspect this infection is rebooting.

Can't be sure, but I know that microbial drain cleaners (probiotics) travel through the pipes - even CLIMBING if there's gunk to eat which is why you also want to use the drain cleaners before bed so that nobody is running water through the drains, rinsing them away.

Not sure if that's what happens with the nasal rinse but it would make sense as even that tiny amount cleared all of the upper respiratory areas - save a single small area that I can feel in my sinuses - but it cleared my broncial tubes and lungs which were NOT rinsed, so...

We naturally breathe microbes - including the probiotics that usually keep us safe - all the time from the air, but when one is indoors all day, with unfriendly microbes floating around and procreating and one is constantly blowing one's nose, one is also constantly expelling the probiotics that get shut into the house or office with us. Or, at least, that is my suspicion.

ANYway - VERY exciting! I would say that if you use microbes you cultivate, yourself, for instance, if you make LABS - I would guess that it wouldn't take much. For soil, it's used in a 1/1000 ratio - or even MORE diluted so, just be aware. I've purposely not done it again as I expect there are CONbiotics in the house and hope it will come back, at which point I will try LABS, starting with a very diluted mixture and see what happens.

What I used this time was just a tiny bit from a PB8 probiotic capsule in about a half cup of warm water with a pinch of salt and a pinch or two of sugar, to wake them up, as I don't keep milk on hand because I don't use it for anything but LABS, so I was out of LABS, but I got a little bottle of milk and I'm cultivating some microbes as I write this so I'll have some LABS in couple of days.

I accidentally finished off the sinus thing with a blast of hydrogen peroxide from my little face mister. I saw it sitting there and thought, "Hmmm...I've never breathed H2O2 in through my nose...", so I did. And now I don't have anything to test the LABS on.

Plus, I was sniffing a split oregano capsule to see how long the aroma was going to last. Which was kind of awesome! Like...eucalyptus or...Mentholatum - how many of us old cats remember Mentholatum? We always had Mentholatum in the house when I was a kid...I'll never forget that smell. It was awesome!

I've had a sinus infection for 1 1/2 months now and took 2 rounds of antibiotics and tried all kinds of remedies but the only thing that seemed to finially work was taking Probiotic Supplements ( acidophilus pills). If youve taken 1 or more rounds of antibiotics and they don't cure the sinus infection it usually means that the infection is fungal, not bacterial. When you take antibiotics they kill all the benificial baceria in your stomach and intestines which the Probiotics replenish. I started taking Probiotics and started feeling better the first day.
