Just curious, are you taking a pharmaceutical grade of magnesium or something you bought from a "big box" department store? I've noticed some inferior grades of supplements use fillers (like sawdust). You might inquire about a quality offering at your local health store (local not big box like VValgr&&ns or WrongAide). I started out using a brand at one time available only to healthcare practitioners.

Hi, I'm 27 years old and suffer from chronic insomnia and severe TMJ. I recently stumbled upon this site in my desperate search for relief. I haven't had any success with medication and devices/appliances for either condition. I have had chronic insomnia for the 9 or more years. I've tried about 7 or so different medications, but nothing seems to work. Concerning the TMJ, it has roughly the same timeframe. It started out with tension in my jaw and popping in my ears, but in the last 14 months my jaw has started locking closed by the time I woke up in the morning. The first time this happened it unlocked on its own about 6 hours after waking. The second time it locked and stayed locked for 4 months without unlocking at all. My dentist and various other appliances, TENS treatments and anti-inflammatories were unable to help. Out of everything it was the TENS sessions that gave the most relief, but only temporarily. It has since unlocked, but I continue to wake every morning with my jaw locked for the first hour after waking. I wear a custom splint, made to mimic my jaw in its most relaxed position after TENSing (a 1,200$ piece of acrylic) and I take 20 mg of flexeril every night before bed. I believe that both the insomnia and the tmj are related and both heavily affected by stress. I recently stopped all of my sleeping medications and started taking baking soda in water 3 times a day along with niacinamide at bed time and transdermal magnesium therapy in the form of "oil". The problem is that I feel worse than ever. I am sleeping better(ish) but my jaw, face, neck, shoulders and temples are throbbing. My head is pounding and I feel dizzy and flu like. It's been for the last 4 days about the day after I started these alternative treatments. Is this a normal response? Perhaps Herxheimer Reaction or something. Should I push forward or is this something that I should bring to the attention of my doctor. Any insight would be appreciated. Ted please if you have any input it would be appreciated. Hello! Ive struggled with insomnia and tmj in the past. I had to just experiment with different things to find what really worked. and sometimes something would stop working and id have to find something else.
1. have you tried magnesium? it comes in a powder version called natural calm that really works but any powder one that you put with hot water could knock out the tmj AND the insomnia.
2. if your up at night worrying try 5htp at night and GABA. Really helped me out.. this might help your jaw as well since in my experience mental stress really worsens my tmj and insomnia.
3. guided meditations centered on healing and the loving presence of the universe. this could help get to the root of the problem:)
4. Try taking B complex for stress management as well I felt an almost immediate difference.
5. Acupressure could be cool to look into as well. Ive had some interesting results with it!! Works immediately!
Ive found that the more I would stress about my insomnia or my tmj the worse it would get. A little acceptance can go a long way! Good luck! Email me if you have any questions!!

Also for insomnia, rubbing few drops of good quality 'blue chamomile' essential oil on your front and back solar plexus chakras, front and back navel chakras and at the bottom of your feet (middle area) helps fall asleep effortlessly and stay asleep through the night.
It is advisable for overall health to use therapeutic grade essential oils (NOT food grade).
Additionally, a product called Min-Tran (All natural food ingredients) made by Standard Process in the US (and found on amazon. Com) is a great way to balance the sympathetic and para-sympathetic nervous system which aids in falling asleep. Unlike prescription sleep meds which badly affect the brain and in some cases damage the brain, Min-Tran does not effect the brain but works to calm down the nervous system.

that is awesome that you started slow and work your way up. My dad is almost 70 and can take up to 9 a day... My husband 46 is also at 9 a day after he broke his arm 2 yrs ago and then again last year after a chainsaw injury to his leg. No side effects... But he was also taking lots of d (his blood test was really low) and lots of vitamin c and I made him drink tons of water every day. I have heard it is really really important to drink lots of water. I have the book the miracle of msm and it is an awesome read- actually I have 2 copies and I loan one out ;-) I also have a large MSM article I printed out from an online website but I don't think I'm allowed to post the link to that... It is said to be the official website for msm. I printed it out almost 3 years ago and it is dogeared beyond belief. I reread it all the time at breakfast, in the bathroom etc. Because you forget how many amazing uses it has!!! Wish there was more studies on breastfeeding and pregnancy and taking it. I know most people just say it's a supplement but I always err on the side of caution so I will have to wait until I am done nursing.

J: Just a few tips.
The fungal infection produces aldehyde as a byproduct of it's metabolism and is quite toxic. Aldehyde is like a very potent alcohol so to best detoxify take the MolyB away from other supplements and also take Zinc & Niacin/Niacinamide together. You will wish to reduce the MolyB because it inhibits Copper. I always take 50mg Zinc w/ 1.5 mg Copper, and 500mcg MolyB at another time.

I'l leave it to wiser folk to advise on which of those may be contributing to your blood thinning, but I wanted to let you know that vitamin K will help blood coagulation, so you might want to increase your intake of it. My liver enzymes are elevated for the 1st time ever and the doctor seemed concerned and I have to retest in 3 weeks. I read in one of Ted's comments that some of the oil in OP settles in the liver. Has any one experienced elevated liver levels or heard of this? Not sure if Ted's comment is a bad thing or not. Thank you EC for this site and to all that contribute.

I tried the cayenne pepper tea. I recently started using lecithin due to high liver enzymes, and my blood sugar has been high in the past. what am i doing wrong? I am post menopausal and taking 1mg of estrodial with osteopenia (almost osteoporosis) my blood work showed hdl cholesterol low-37 LDL-187, low vit D, low B12. Any one else experiencing weight gain and just feeling blah? Am I doing too many remedies at the same time? the wrong remedies?

It would be interesting to know why you were taking the psyllium husk capsules..... Constipation, I suppose.... I have never tried them but the only thing I can think about is that you took too much and had a terrible diarrhea! You say that you took 2 an hour before every meal but how many meals a day do you take? Does that mean that you took 6? It might have been too much! What I do in case of constipation is to start with a little bit and wait to see if it works. Sometimes I eat prunes, for example, but never a lot or else I can have the exact same problems (I have never vomited though...).
Raw Greens
I do have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I don't remember if he said that this raw green intolerance is part of the IBS. However, I cannot find anyone else in which this happens. It seems very rare. And, I don't really know how to "cure" it. The gastroenterologist didn't really seem to help. Perhaps I should try a more naturopathic gastroenterologist? They could possibly recommend digestive enzymes? Because, the idea of me slowly introducing raw greens into my diet until I tolerate them........ It just frightens me, the pain is so bad when I eat them. But, I think I might have to "risk it" and plan to re-introduce myself to greens when I have a few days off of work, because it takes a lot out of me, I'm drained after these digestive attacks. Thank you for any input. I read on here a lot, but have never posted.

I also forgot to mention, I want to move toward a more plant-based diet, with less processed foods. So, I would hope to at least at some raw greens as part of this diet shift. But now, with smoothies, I don't put kale or any greens in a smoothie, just fruit and ice................ No dairy - I am also lactose intolerant. So, for someone who wants to venture into vegetarianism....... Having a greens intolerance and a lactose intolerance is not a good thing- it won't leave me with many options! Thanks.

Hi Smiler, I have had a similar experience when eating raw vegetables in some restaurants. It does not always happen and it never happens at home. I think some restaurants do not properly wash the greens and I am particularly sensitive to the bacteria or preservatives that is left on them. So my policy has become to eat only cooked vegetables in restaurants and to wash the veggies well at home. It has been effective. I wish you good luck because raw vegetables are so good for us. Lee

Hi Smiler7700, I don't think it is a rare as we tend to think, I think it is more that we don't talk about our bowel movements. I too used not to digest raw vegetables and cooked corn. Lettuce was the worst it would just float in the toilet bowl, 2-3 extra flushes to get rid of it. (Sorry folks about the graphics. ) I too agree that washing the veg is vital as even the chemical residue causes IBS symptoms for some. I took digestive enzymes for years to help. This enabled me to have salads but not twice a day only once a day, and only for 2-3 days in a row. I also found that all white products needed to be removed from my diet.
After being on ayurvedic remedies I now digest my food. The ones I believe that were of most benefit were: Ginger; Triphala; Tulsi; Neem. If you do a search for each one with the word digestion you will find some info about each of them. Triphala I found best taken after rising in am and also before bed. The others all taken with meals, 2 or 3 time a day, although the ginger with every meal. I have tried many different ways of eating and excluded things but it was the above remedies that changed it all for me. All the best.

Hello, I did not see your replies until now, a year later! Thank you so much. I will diligently wash any raw greens, and will only order cooked vegetables from restaurants. I will also look into those supplements & enzymes mentioned in your replies. I recently found out that I have lymphocytic colitis - it came about after a biopsy from a colonoscopy. The good news was... No polyps! So colitis might explain some of it. But thank you.

Herbs can work together (synergistically) so yes, it stands to reason that some don't work well together. For example, some herbs are energizing and are best not taken at bedtime. And chamomile and hops are calming and I tend to take them in the evening if I am using them.
If you mix bleach and ammonia you get a poisonous gas. But those are chemicals, not herbs. I don't know of any common herbs that would have such a dramatic effect.
Single herbs can have their dangers. Some are blood thinners, which can be contraindicated for some people. Others shouldn't be taken in pregnancy as they can cause miscarriage. So it is always wise to get to know the herbs you are using. A favorite starter herb book for me is, "Ten Essential Herbs, " by Lalitha Thomas. I still reference it.
"Medical Herbalism, " by David Hoffman is a great herb resource, but it can be pretty overwhelming.
My own herb knowledge has come from using different herbs over the years and studying them one at a time.
I don't know of any contraindication of the herbs you mention, but if you are concerned, you could take them at different times of the day.
