Hi there, I have a problem with my husband's drinking. He says that he doesnt drink alot, just the occasional beer or glass of wine with friends but I believe it is more than that. I still want him to quit, since I think it is affecting his physical health (liver) and his mental health (he forgets alot).

Note that he doesnt want to quit and doesnt know that I want him to. Would apple cider vinegar help in this case? If so, how can I use it without him knowing?

L-Tryptophan and B vitamins conquer anxiety-related alcoholism

I was very concerned for my husband, who is hypersensitive (and was getting more so all the time) had severe anxiety issues, constant brain chatter, severe insomnia and drank way, way too much (it was the only way he could calm down).

On discovering Earth Clinic and while searching for stenosis for myself, I came across Ted's advice on alcoholism. I went over all his advice thoroughly and decided on the following once a day:

  • L-Tryptophan 1500mg
  • Vit B-6 100 mg
  • and a Raw B-Complex.

My husband agreed to give it a try. I didn't notice anything for about 4 days then, all of a sudden, we both noticed that his anxiety levels and drinking had greatly reduced. And all this in the middle of stressful issues that were coming at us one after the other. After a week, my husband noticed that he was feeling sleepy in the mornings after taking the supplements. So we reduced the dosage from 3 capsules (1500mg) to 2 and that has stayed at that level. It has been nearly a month and we are both delighted with the results! I am so thankful to this Earth Clinic site and to Ted's advice which was exactly what we needed!

Alcoholism: Changed my body chemistry and followed an anti-yeast diet.. Since I have elimanted yeast, sugar all processed foods, I no longer have the cravings to drink alcohol. I have been on this diet now for 3 years..my family is so proud of me.I don't fight the urge anymore and is the most Wonderful feeling. I almost use to faint going by the beer & wine section in the grocery store. My husband has been able to have a full bar in our house for the first time in 25 years and I don't think about drinking anymore. I forget it is even in the house. At first it is hard to retrain your eating habits but it can be done. I have Candida Albicans, and cleaning out all of your insides can take years. I have done 15 Liver flushes and have removed liver flukes and thousands of stones.. Got this info from Dr. Hulda Clark.. I drank for more than 20 years, and I can tell you how happy I am to know that the food I was eating was the cause of my addiction and just stopping the food with chemicals from going into my body has saved my life!

My son was drinking 4 to 5 thirty pks of beer a week! He was driving me and everyone else around him crazy, and he did not want to quit saying it was his life, so I had to trick him :) He had acid reflux so I gave him 2 tbls of Apple Cider Vinegar morning and evening. He also said he needed more energy so I had him use Bill Munro's method of inhaling 3% hydrogen peroxide 4 to 6 times a day. I noticed he was drinking a lot less after 2 weeks so to speed things up I bet him $20.00 he could not go 1 week without drinking. Not only did he win the bet that was 2 months ago and he still has not had a beer. Thanks Ted and Thank God for helping me find Earth Clinic.

Psilocybin, for Alcohol Addiction.

I have been using about .1g to 1g kinda a high dose, but I like the effect.... Normal routine is one microdose (.1g to .5g) of this plant medicine 1 day on 3 days off... ive done this for less than a year, and It has finally helped me control my excessive alcoholism.. if you can find this mushroom, also can be cultivated indoors.

Defintely a miracle cure for me, also cured my habit of bad nail biting.. it may be a slight unorthodox treatment to some, but It has been a positive treatment, and also great for Depression and anxiety...

Absolutley an incredible and insightful remedy for alcoholism and addiction! I can honestly say, that after following Ted's thorough and simple plan addressing the several complex issues of addiction, my life has completely changed. I have tried every remedy (even Ambien and Lunesta as a last result would not work) for the insomnia associated with alcoholism. This brilliant and logical plan rid me of all of my withdrawal and cravings. The only thing I did not follow 100% was that I took his suggested supplements every day instead of three times a week. I did this for about a month. Now, I just take the supplements once or twice a week. It's like a miracle. I highly recommend the lecithin, as well. I really feel it helped my liver get back into shape! I frequently use this site for other ailments. I don't know why it never occured to me to look up "alcoholism" until recently! Thank you Ted and Earth Clinic!!

Most "alcoholics" don't realize their addiction is chemical and a direct result of being "hypoglycemic". The addiction to the alcohol is so strong because their blood-sugar level drops so severely and gets replenished so quickly with alcohol--because of the high sugar content. In other words, it's not your fault! This is the answer, if you are trying to cut back on your alcohol intake or go "cold turkey", just buy a bottle of "L- Glutamine" and take one every time you have a craving for alcohol. "Glutamine is an amino acid that your brain can use as an emergency substitute fuel when you haven't eaten recently or have been eating too many carbs and your blood sugar level is too low. This is a glucose stand-in that stops the impulse to run to the candy machine when it's low blood sugar time. L-Glutamine can stop your cravings and get you feeling steady and even within ten minutes." Julia Ross, from The Mood Cure-awesome book. I'm telling you, it works, now go help yourself!

I drank upwards of 10 standard drinks a day, and only as low as 2 drinks a day for 10 solid years. Red wine or Vodka ( or whatever hard liquor was on hand). I am over 90 days sober, and although not perfect, I am much better than I ever was drinking. YES Amino Acid Therapy works like a charm. 500-1500mgs L-Glutamine 3 to 4 times a day and the same for L-Phenylalanine 3 times a day. EAT 3 healthy meals a day. Salads, veggies, yogurt, cheeses, wheat crackers, green tea, and lots of water. Also take b-complex, vitamin c, take a multi calcium, zinc, and d3, and some chromium.

I have basically not missed a night of drinking alcohol in the last 15 years. I began 3 days ago substituting my vodka/water/lemon slice for ACV/orange juice, and it's true it does work very well. I don't think I could actually deal with these cravings without it.

I think different people develop addictions for different reasons. Be it drugs (which includes legal ones such as alcohol), food, sex, prescription meds, overspending, coffee, sugar, fat, etc.

Vitamin therapy may work for some (it did for me), others do better with therapy, or AA, or meds, etc. This is because we are not all addicts because of one single reason. We really need to stop thinking in terms of "one disease, one cure". This is the basis of allopathy and look where it took us. Everybody is different. We need to find what works for us, as an individual.

I personally attended NA for a while, and while it is an outstanding group helping millions of people worldwide, it didn't work for me. I left every meeting having insane cravings because that's all we talked about: drugs! So I had to find my own thing. Cure doesn't come in one package. Find your own.

Actually, the 'story' this guy told about his 'neighbor' may have been initially true but it is one of those circulating urban tales. I won't say it's an urban 'myth' but I have read almost identical stories on the web many times before with slight changes, ie: My neighbor was a pilot that had to quit drinking and used to drop by for a drink after work so one day gave have him ACV instead without him knowing and he didn't notice and was amazed when I told him what it was ... etc, etc, .

That said, I think ACV does work but people should just tell real stories and not resort to these sort of chain-letter email lies.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

You know, actually... when I stopped drinking beer, the first time, I substituted with ACV and baking soda... fizzy and it actually tasted a bit like beer to me and became my new ritual. Lasted a little more than a month, but like smoking, I gave myself permission to have a beer after work and it became my once again newer ritual.

However, about to start drinking ACV and baking soda again. ;)

I have had a few bouts w/ alcoholism myself. I've found the following to be helpful: L-glutamine (an amino acid) [already mentioned], Kudzu (an herb), grapes or grape juice, B complex vitamins [already mentioned], & magnesium - use as directed by what the supplement bottle(s) says. As far as I know, it's safe to combine any & all of the above supplements. There may be others not mentioned here, but I think these are worth mentioning. Hope this helps.

Dihydromyricetin (DHM)

Dihydromyricetin is a highly effective cure for alcoholism. It's particularly promising for those with anxiety disorders. Also known as DHM, Hovenia Sulcus Extract, and Oriental/Japanese Raisin Tree, this supplement is widely available. While seeming a bit pricey at around $20/bottle it can stop daily drinking in its tracks, costing far less per day than even the cheapest alcohol for a regular drinker. There is so feeling of intoxication, just relief from withdrawal, anxiety, and the urge to drink.

Experiment with the dosage, 1600 mg is a good starting place in my experience. I could sing the praises of this stuff all day, but these pages say it better:

DHM works very well! I take it every night after I drink alcohol, usually right before bed, and have for over a year now. I buy it on Amazon, the bulk 100 gram bag of powder for $40, and then make my own 1 gram capsules. I take about 1 gram per drink I want to eliminate from my system. The typical pre-made capsules sold are not only expensive but I don't believe the dose is high enough. Not for me anyway. It absolutely does help sober me up quick and completely eliminates a typical hangover, including relief from the anxiety. If you take it before drinking, the alcohol will not be nearly as effective, which can help you lose interest in drinking more.

If you are trying to cut back or quit, definitely give this a try. I've noticed my health improve slowly, especially with skin and memory issues. Even if you aren't quitting or cutting back just yet, it will lessen the damage your poor liver has been enduring for so long. It has many anticancer properties as well. So far studies have found no negative side effects and I definitely tried my best to research risks since I take it so much. If that ever changes I'd love to know. Overall, it's the most effective product I have ever taken to counteract the effects of alcohol. Definitely add it to your arsenal. I also just got tested and discovered I'm B12 deficient... and that could not only be because of drinking, but also causing me to crave it more. Keep fighting the good fight!

Switchel
Posted by Amelia (Nyc) on 12/05/2015

Finding a replacement beverage was a major key to giving up drinking for me. I drank a bottle of wine every day for many years and just stopped 2 months ago.

It's about that ritual and ceremony and feeling like drinking wine makes the end of the day special.

I started drinking "switchel" and I think not only does it allow me the ritual that I enjoy, there is something about the ACV that satisfies the same alcohol craving. There are some commercial switchels but they are too sweet for me (maybe try them but cut with water?).

With my juicer I juice a concentrate of ginger, tumeric, pineapple, rhubarb and mint. (these are just flavors I like, most switchel bases are just ginger and maple syrup). I put this in a glass bottle with a cork, that feeling of uncorking and pouring is satisfying! Each time I want a drink I pour about 1-2 ounces of the concentrate in a glass, add 2 teaspoons of ACV, and fill the rest with water.

When I started drinking this 2 months ago I wasn't trying to give up alcohol, I was just doing a 2 week raw diet that didn't include alcohol. But 2 months later I've kept drinking/craving the switchel daily and haven't started drinking wine daily again.

Good luck!

Editor's Choice

Few people know that alcohol and fructose use the same pathways in the liver. So, when you drink, do not drink pop, soda or any other product with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it that same day. Drink only very dry wine, as a sugar addiction coupled with an alcohol addiction makes it twice as bad and hard to break.

When trying to quit, do not let yourself get hungry, but avoid high carb snacks. Nuts, veggies with dips, moderate fruit all work. Shiritake noodles (yam based) work great with any soup, stew or sauce you like to satisfy appetite and fill you up with low carbs.

Alcohol depletes vitamin B1. It is water soluble and easily drained from your system. To fight back, buy the fat soluble form, called Benfotiamine, and use as a suplement. In short, you will lessen metabolic damage. Hopefully, this will mean it becomes easier to quit as the side effects of quitting are less.

Likewise, vitamin C is depleted. Same story, top up vitamin C as soon as possible.

Repair liver stress with silymarin and NAC (n-acytlcysteine).

Some people find niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3) lessens cravings. | do not confuse with niacin (also B3), as niacin causes flushing.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Ted (Bangkok, Thailand) on 07/22/2009

Over the past weeks I have been looking over the use of hydrogen peroxide to stop alcohol addiction and drug abuse addiction. The remedy is a straightforward one, a 3% H2O2 food grade one capful is added into an ordinary drinking water. Use this as a normal drinking water. If a person happens to be drinking wine, beer, liquor, the body will immediately reject it and tries to detoxify it, causing nausea, or vomiting when they take it. The body may also reject certain drug meds, such as birth control pills, cocaine, for example in a few cases. So if the drinking water with hydrogen peroxide is taken at one glass is taken within one hour, the effects is even more stronger and will encourage people to quit the alcohol use.

Hi Ted from Bangkok, I have used Earth Clinic to research on many ailment and this is a gold mine, so 1st, thank you for putting it up!! Second, I am trying to cut back on alcohol intake before it is a problem. I drink about 1/2 bottle of wine per night and I have a hard time to skip a day. But I truly want to try (again) :) So yesterday, I looked to see if you had any idea about it and here you are, Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide.

I am starting today, very slowly. I had 3% FGHP on hand, so I will use that. I don't really want to deal with 35% technicality about the handling and online ordering.

I went with 3 drops of the 3% in a full glass of spring water. The water stayed clear, no bubbles, so as per the technique I should be good to go.

I feel compelled to write the brand, just because there is so much confusion and hype on which kind to use. Feel free to delete it if you don't agree. Essential Oxygen is the one I used from my health food store.

I ate a peanut butter toast at 10h and drank the water w/hp at 12h. So far, I felt a little dizzy and my toes tingles after about 5 minutes of my first sip. The tingle went away after about 20 minutes. I am still a little lightheaded after an hour, not like a glass of wine though, more like if I would be really hungry... (which I am not). I will try to eat an organic mix salad in 1/2 hour and see how it goes. I will keep posting here as I think so many people are frightened by everything surrounding the use of HP.

I will also use another glass 1 hour before diner...

If this works as I think it will, Ted from Bangkok, I will be forever grateful!! ( I already am but I have tried so many things to get rid of this problem: acupuncture, EFT, The vitamin cure, all the books I could find on the subject, regular psychological therapy, amino acid, diet, avoiding sugar, muscle testing, kinesiology, hypoglycemic therapy. I discovered alcohol at 11, so it is at cellular level.

EC: Thank you for your kind words on the website! It is always appreciated. Ted is an extremely valuable resource and Contributing Editor and will be pleased as well. fyi: Deirdre Layne founded and manages Earth Clinic.

If you take some gold into the body, anytime you drink alcohol, it will make you sick. One way to do this is: Chloride of Gold Solution be taken internally - Begin with one drop in half a glass of water (the solution being in the proportions of one drop to one ounce of distilled water), every day for five days. Then take two drops every day for five days, then three drops every day for five days, then four drops every day for five days. Then leave off for five days. Then begin with the one drop again, and so on. Also, some people have great results with Castor Oil packs. To find chloride of gold just Google it. If you try alcohol during this time, it will make you feel nauseated and it might even make you vomit.

This is a response to Diamond on her comment. I use to think that way too. You know chemical imbalances and micro organisms living inside you can make you think and act differently that you really like to act. Addiction to anything can be clearly caused by these facts. Example: a person who suffers with Candida for example think that they love sugar and starchy foods. When you treat the disease the "LOVE" will disappear.

Alcoholism is not a psychological problem, lets think. The alcohol is loaded with yeast used in the fermentation process. The fungus already inside the body creates the necessity for the beverage. One time I gave some Candida treatment to my sister, very alcoholic, 45 years alcoholic, the worst case. She stayed away from alcohol long time, then later she went back to the addiction. She would not stay with the treatment a little longer, she was good for awile. With no counseling or AA, anything and she was sober for several weeks. Obviously she should stay longer until the detoxification was complete. If the psychological part was true how come she stayed sober for such long time?

One time I was on a sugar diet, I felt fantastic, the best in my life. I was thin and lean, the people noticing me. The problem is, it is a lot of work finding foods without sugar, a full time job. My love for sugar disappeared completely. Now I know that an addiction has nothing to do with psychological problems. People with mind problems will do whatever wrong things they like to, but not necessarily be an addicted person. Addiction is a disease in the body. Too much toxins, nutritional deficiency and stress are the cause. All of this plus chaos electromagnetic. Treat these problems and all diseases will be gone. Take care.

WARNING!

I beg you, for your sake... Do not do this!

Chloride or ionic gold is neuro toxin, it can do severe damage to your nervous system. It may eventually lead to Peripheral Neuropathy; where your skin will itch and feel like its burning, leading to permernant numbness.

There are some commercial products that will, upon alcohol consumption induce nausea and vomiting, also some strong antibiotics ( which ones I can't remember) will also produce a simmilar effect.

Alcohol dependency is often a symptom of depression or boredom, try st johns wort and go outside or read.

A lot of this is included in the book "The Vitamin Cure for Alcoholism: How to Protect Against and Fight Alcoholism Using Nutrition and Vitamin Supplementation"

To make things short these are the supplements suggested in the book:

It worked miracles with my cravings. Read the book if you have to.

So sorry about my mistake, Dear Deirdre Layne, thank you so much for this valuable website and the idea to have it brand free for objectivity sake, it is brilliant.

For some reason I always tumble across Ted's posts and they helped me so much, so I just assumed.

Follow up on the FGHP, everything went fine with the salad with chickpeas I ate at 1:30h. No nausea at all. I am pretty much vegetarian, so I read it was better not to eat meat, (perhaps not at the beginning anyway).

What I noticed in the afternoon up to 11h last night: Quite a bit of bowel movement without being loose. I am used to diarrhea (sorry for graphic description) because of the alcohol, but this felt definitely more like a cleansing, without cramps.

I also noticed I had to blow my nose a few times this morning and last night.

After my 3 drops FGHP this morning in 8 oz of tap water, still clear, without bubble. (We drink tap water on the top of my hill) This time my hands feel a bit numb almost 3 hours later. I am also still lightheaded. Not enough to prevent me to do anything but just enough for notice.

I am amazed by what 9 drops of 3% FGHP can do. I will also stick with 3 drops until the effects cleared out a little. I can't afford to get sick right now so I am glad I tried the 3% instead of 35%.

I will keep posting if there is any changes...

For border-line alcoholics(5-6 beers per day), you can set rules like: no drinking before lunch. If you have kids, a rule like no drinking before the kids go to sleep might help.

Once those rules are in place, you can set a limit like 4 beers. When you get used to that, decrease to 3. At that point, change to a cheat day like 1 day per week. Alcohol steals your time, but it is possible for some to wean off of.

If beer is your alcohol of choice, and you're quitting, beer is high in b-vitamins, so a b-complex may be helpful. Unclear.

Since Ted mentioned liver damage, it would seem that this may be reversible. My chemistry isn't very good, but I see Phenyl and Sulfur, two anti-fungals in this Drug, so the closest natural remedy might be turmeric (which has both).

Hello all,

There is a wonderful South African herb called Scletium Tortuosum. Scetium is an adaptogenic herb, treats anxiety, depression and addiction. I have used it many times, and it has greatly helped me. I quit smoking with this. I have recommended it to many people, who have also been helped from depression. My friend, who was abusing alcohol, took this and stopped drinking for a period. I cannot recommend it enough. You take 1 in the morning, and if it can help you, you will notice an effect in about 10 days. It basically balances you out, and you stop having those needs to go from one extreme to another. I used it for depression as well. Extremely helpful. When I didn't feel like taking it any more, I just naturally stopped.

I took the 50 mg. kind, as recommended by my healthcare provider, who happened to be from South Africa, thus knew about this remarkable herb. It costs $18. a bottle, a 2 month supply.

Naltrexone
Posted by Wydo (Ca) on 08/08/2016

Hi Rsw Uniontown, Oh,

I just found out from reading that if one has been taking Naltrexone and then gets off that there is an increase of drinking alcohol that can lead to overdose and death. I also read that vitamin C in high doses can do the same thing that Naltrexone does without the side effects. One must start out with 1 gram per hour then increase to 2 grams per hour and then 3 grams per hour etc. until you have to run to the bathroom in a hurry then back down. Alcoholics can take a much higher doses than healthy people. Of course one must buy pure powder of vitamin C and mix with water. Pure Ascorbic acid is very sour so one might try Sodium Ascorbate powder. Buy small amounts at first to see what you like then buy it by the pound. Sweeten with stevia and erythritol. Pure Niacin powder is next and one needs to work up to 500 mg then on up to 1500 mg per day then move to twice a day over time. Niacin flushes will last until 2 weeks are over so one needs to stay with it. I am still reading on this. I may do a separate post as the cure is quite comprehensive.
