I don't know about a cure, but apple cider vinegar sure does help ease the symptoms of my painful uti. Within 1/2 hr of drinking acv, lemon juice & water, symptoms were 75% (or more) improved. Yay for acv!

What if you always bleed with your UTI's? My pregnancies really messed up my tube from my bladder to the outside world. Actually since I was 17 I have always had blood, frequency, and burning as the first sign and believe it or not very little pain in my abdomen but of course not for when I pee. I want to do natural remedies to clear my UTI up. I bought no sugar added 100% cranberry juice, ACV, AZO pain relief and cranberry pills. I had a UTI about two months ago and the drugs made my body in really bad shape. I don't want them again. I want my body to fight this and hopefully grow immune to it. I had grandmother I never met die of bladder cancer. I also have an aunt who has my same issues of recurrent bladder infections. I just want to let my body do what it's meant to do. Build immunity to these bacterias. Women back before modern medicine lived through UTI's and kidney infections with natural remedies. I believe in them fully. So I think most necessary to go to a doctor is when you have severe pain in your flank area and just can't get rid of the UTI symptoms.

It takes antibiotics a few days to actually work fully, so Apple Cider Vinegar should be given the same amount of time to completely work as long as the symptoms seem to be abating.

Last year i got my first bladder infection with antibiotic to treat it. But after 1 month it came back, again i got rid of it by pills from the doctor. During the process i told a friend about my painful experience. She suggested a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every night before bedtime. Since then ive had no more bladder infections! Recently it came back due to not urinating before or after having intercourse. so as long as you do that, and take the ACV, no more painful bladder infections!

Cured UTI twice with ACV. Once, right before a beach vacation I felt it coming on. Took 1-2 TB for 48 hours in 8 to 16 oz water for about 72 hours every 4 hours including at 3am. It was gone! Felt great.
Started a UTI feeling after antibiotic rounds. Again, cured using 72 hours of 1-2TB ACV with 8 oz water 3 times per day. I also chugged water. I did add 1 TSP of baking soda on day 1 - but it made me throw up! Ugh. Pure ACV works just fine.
PS - Most recently, I also use echinacea tincture. A few droper fulls into the mixture.

I've had a couple UTIs in my life and have always just taken AZO standard. This time was different, worse, I woke up in the middle of the night in so much pain. I didn't know what to do seeing I was at a friends, she luckily had an AZO but it didn't work like usual, I came on this site Thank god! I read about taking lemon juice and putting it in water, which was the only option I had cause she didn't have ACV. Lemon water didn't help I came home and got out the ACV right away took 2 tsp along with 3 tbs of lemon juice right away, took a hot bath and it did wonders! Waited about an hour and just took 2 more tsp with warm water. I recommend taking it with lemon juice, it takes away the nasty taste of ACV.

Linda, it would be interesting to know your age because I think that my bladder infections came from dryness of the vagina. When my husband and I started using lube during intercourse the infections stopped. Also peeing afterwards and washing yourself helps. When I took antibiotics my doctor told me not to take the ten day cure, she said that 3 days were enough and that was true. And drinking enough water, that helps as well! I haven't had any for almost 18 months.

I went to the Dr's. less than a month a go for a UTI and was put on antibiotics for a week (which totally messed up my system). I woke up at 3AM with that burning sensation and wont be able to get to the DR's till Monday. I need relief and FAST! I remember my brother took ACV just because, so I looked it up. Figured it wouldn't hurt.... I mixed mine with lemonade, yes it still tastes horrible but it's been half an hour and already feel better. I'll continue to take it till monday. I dont want to be on antibiotics again. Good luck!

I just take two tablespoons morning and night and I am pain free! The vinegar is not the tastiest so get ready for it. Make sure you purchase the Organic ACV "with the mother in it", make sure its cloudy.

So I got my first UTI yesterday, I knew what it was because I looked up my symptoms. I started drink water like crazy all day and I even made a parsley and lemon tea. It helped for a few hours, but by the end of the day I was in excruciating pain and was going to the restroom every 2-3 minutes. I was fed up by 5 this morning and asked my mom to take me to our doctor, but he cant see us till monday and today is friday. I started doing a little more researching and found this heavenly sight about apple cider vinegar. I immediately went to our kitchen and started rummaging through our pantry. I was so excited to find some! I took a shot of some and quickly decided I would never do anything that stupid again hahaha. An hour later my urinating became less frequent about every 15-20 minutes which I took as an amazing sign. Another hour later I put two tablespoons in a tall glass of water and kept drinking lots of plain water. Now two hours later I feel almost back to normal! No pain when peeing! I just made another glass of the miracle juice and hope to get rid of this thing by tomorrow, CHEERS! :)

I suffered through the second bladder infection of my life a year ago at age 40 (and no med insurance). For three days I tried the most popular natural remedy I knew of: 'raw' cran juice or cran capsules (I used both, with tons of water). This provided barely tolerable results, with no real signs of improvement, until my dad recommended the ACV treatment he'd read about on this site. I tried the 'recipe' he gave me, and was absolutely AMAZED at the VERY quick results. My 'situation' only required 3 doses, over about 3 hrs, and all symptoms disappeared (for good). I felt about 50% better after ONLY 1/2 HR of drinking first dose of remedy. And I felt completely symptom free after 2 more doses over next 2 or 3 hours. Each dose consisted of just 2 Tbls ACV (organic, non filtered, brown colored ONLY) w/ dash of baking soda (for alkaline balance(?)I think)in approx 6-8 oz water (which I 'slammed' down- very bitter. ), while still drinking lots of plain water over the next 12 or so hrs, just to help flush out infection.
Quick note of information I wanted to pass on (and a topic which remains controversial- so I don't mean to offend anyone who doesn't agree :), but the logic made sense to me anyway:
Not all herbal/natural remedies, as 'harmless' as they may seem, may be the healthiest choice to take daily for preventative purposes. Many are not FDA approved or monitored, and therefore can be as potent, or even MORE potent, than their respective prescription counterparts. Also, daily, frequent usage might prove ineffective over time(i. e. Due to tolerance increase). An MD recently warned me about the dangers of taking natural/herbal remedies to compliment a prescription drug to help treat or cure an illness faster or more effectively. Most prescription drugs have natural roots or base to begin with, so toxicity may occur if also adding one or more of the drugs base herbs. (Glad I finally met an MD who is educated on these matters. I have 'doubled up' many times in past hoping for quicker recovery, and wasn't aware of dangers. ) So I now do extensive research on any/all natural remedies I take, even if just intended for short time use. Except for some vitamins, I now only take any remedies on an 'as needed' basis, and have found this to provide the best results. Again, controversal topic, but just passing on for FYI purposes:)

I just wanted to add my two cents here because I suffered with recurrent bladder and yeast infections for many years and doctors would always say that it was no big deal and send me home with yet another prescription for antibiotics. What I discovered on my own, was that hormonal imbalance was really the culprit. I had been on birth control pills for about 8 years when all of this started. After I stopped taking the pill, I had infections much less frequently, but they would still come back.
What finally worked for me was a combination of wild yam and vitex capsules, taken daily for two or three months. Both of these herbs are natural hormone balancers. They do not contain any actual hormones, but they will stimulate the body to produce hormones in the proper amounts.

Hi Kathy, finally I found someone that had the same adverse effects on her body by taking ACV. I tried it a couple of years ago for UTI, because of how Ted and others explain the way it cures almost everything. The first time I took it my problem got really worse. I stopped it immediately. Then I decided to give it another chance by starting to take it everyday and then I actually got an UTI after that. So for me doesn't work. The ph of ACV is very low so How it can cure everything specially UTI ??? Thanks - Hope someone out there explains....

Honey is not sugar, nor does it cause bodily reactions like sugar. In fact, honey is actually an antimicrobial agent. Honey will not affect your body adversely like sugar does when trying to cure an ailment. If anything, honey would do you more good than harm.

(The Ultrasound Tech Told me once :)) Just with the 4cps you will feel Pressure on your Bladder and you will have to go soon after the 1/2 wait :) It's now been 1/2hr, I feel a Little better now just sitting! Emptied part of my Bladder-OMGosh the worst Pain!! Will continue with the ACV and Add VitC to the mix and then up date Later Thanks

don't use an antacid.... I don't think those are good for you, and might cause upset stomach.
instead, mix the ACV with baking soda before ingesting. it will bubble up, which is the acid and alkaline mixing. after the bubbles have receded, ok to ingest

Also, even though I have no discharge bought a yeast kit. Within three days, burning was gone. STAY AWAY FROM ALL FRUIT JUICES.

I got my first UTI about 2 years ago and since then have had them about 3 times, so I'm pretty familiar with the symptoms and typical treatment (antibiotics). Last weekend one suddenly came upon me. I went to the bathroom several times in a row and still felt like I had to go and also had blood in my urine. It was a sunday and the next day was a holiday so I decided to check out earth clinic's suggestions. I'm so glad I did, especially since I hate taking antibiotics.
After seeing all the positives for ACV, I began taking it (I also began taking cranberry pills). I took 2 Tbsp. In a small amount of water followed by lots of plain water. Within the hour there was no more blood in my urine and the urgency was not so bad. I kept taking it for the next few days, usually once in the morning and once at night, and was feeling pretty much normal, although because I've been drinking so much fluid, I have been wake up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. By the end of the week I wasn't being as strict with myself as far as not eating sweets, having caffeine, or drinking, so I got slightly worried it wasn't completely gone, so I kept taking it this weekend (a full week after initial symptoms) plus I got some unsweetened cranberry juice and have been drinking some of that.
I now feel totally back to normal - hoorah! I'll continue with the cranberry pills and a bit of juice every week to help prevent them in the future, but I'm so happy to know that I don't need to rush to the doc for antibiotics every time I get a uti.

I have been struggling with a uti for the last week. I am a believer of the Apple Cider Vinegar regimen and have been taking 1 Tbs. Of Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with cranberry juice (no sugar added)for close to a year now. I cannot understand why this has happened. I started cranberry extract (1 tbs)3X a day, the sea salt and water, and alka seltzer. Nothing seems to be helping. I am desperate, but hate to have to resort to antibiotics. Why is my body resistant to these remedies?

I was a skeptic but considering I woke up at 4 am with a bladder infection I thought it couldn't hurt to try one of the natural remedies. Since baking soda was the easiest to prepare and drink I started by taking 1/2 tsp with a cup of water, then did it again about a half hour later. When I read all of the comments regarding ACV, I decided I would give that a try also--2 Tbl in a cup of water. I did this three times over a two hour period. By 11 am I was feeling much better, still had blood in my urine, but the discomfort was reduced. Can I say it was the ACV or baking soda, or maybe just all of the fluids I consumed? I guess I'll never know. Mainly, I'm glad I did not have to use any antibiotics.

I typed in "any pathogenic infection that can cause a greenish tinge to the skin" web search. The 1st reference was on vet. medicine but was unable to pull anything up on it - just a book ID. Went down & found one on psuedomonas & pulled it up.
Very interesting. Pseudomonas UTI apparently also has a green tinged exudate, and has an odor like wet hay (they don't recommend you deliberately smell it unless you want some of the same pseudomonas infection you're smelling.
Now what I learned is something that EC'ers should know. It seems that dear old pseudomonas (let's shorten this to pseudo) developed resistance to lots of things, including antibiotics, and apparently to the vinegar, since the person answering the questions from spinal cord injury people, said they actually loved vinegar. They also stated that one strain of pseudomonas actually survived in jet fuel. I think that somewhere in the past I mentioned in EC that when I went to work at a new hospital (l960's). We were told by the fellow working in respiratory care that they had discovered that they were spreading the newest scourge in the hospitals in the oxygen equipment (remember old psuedo likes it moist or wet) and the way that they stopped it was by soaking the equipment in 1 part vinegar to 7 parts water solution. You might want to post this link in EC for as an alert. However, it is still doubtful that ingesting the vinegar/water would
cause a pseudo UTI because the hydrochloric acid in the stomach should have killed off the pseudo before it got to the kidneys.

Last night I noticed I had frequent urination, with little urine actually being expelled. Blood in my urine, feverish chills, pain in my lower abdomen, basically: Bladder Infection. I had a mild freakout as this has never before happened to me. In an effort to avoid having to see a doctor (I've just switched insurance plans so I didn't even have a PCP) I came to Earthclinic.com to look for "cures." I saw all the Yays for ACV and, skeptical but with nothing to lose, I took a shot (approx 4oz) of the stuff with a water chaser. (This site is the only reason I even own a bottle. I've used it as a toner with fairly decent results). It was so disgusting and actually painful going down that I wondered if I had just made the situation worse. I used the toilet a few more times, noticing more blood than was previously there, still painful. About 30 min later, my roommate took me to the emergency room. I was signed in, and went to use the restroom again. Less blood, still painful. No fever this time. As we were sitting there chit-chatting and waiting to be seen, I suddenly realized that I hadn't had the urge to urinate in over 15 minutes. This was VERY surprising since, before the ACV, I had to urinate about once every 2-3 minutes. In another 15 min I was asked to give a urine sample and this time my urine flowed so freely that I filled the entire cup! (Sorry to be so graphic but these were, for me, the determining factors to the efficacy of ACV). No nausea, no pain!!! I couldn't believe it! There was however a tiny bit of blood left but honestly, with the way I had felt all night I couldn't have cared less. I thought I was cured but my roommate convinced me to err on the side of caution and get some antibiotics anyway. I will continue to take my antibiotics as recommended by the doctor.
I don't claim to have been cured by ACV as a bladder infection is serious business but I can definitely attest to the pain-relieving, possibly even flushing qualities of this miraculous (and natural!) healing liquid!
Please note: I used Raw, Organic, Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar.
Warning: it is totally disgusting when it goes down so you may want to dilute it first. :)
I love this site and have been reading it for over a year now! This was the most serious problem I've used any of the remedies for and it worked beautifully!

Apple Cider Vinegar for a bladder infection:
I get chronic bladder infections. I've always just gone to the doctor who (after lecturing me on how to wipe my backside after going to the bathroom - like I could really be 40 years old and not know how to wipe my own butt??!) has given me an antibiotic to take care of it. In desperation I looked up natural remedies and found your page here. I laughed out loud when I saw that people were chugging and sitting in apple cider vinegar.
But then I kept reading, account after account of people who felt better after having done so. Putting my better judgment aside I went to the kitchen and knocked back a shot of ACV. Tasty? No. Not even a little bit.
Just for good measure I also put a little on a cotton ball and dabbed it on right after I had urinated.
Here I am, about an hour later WITHOUT pain. Truly, I CANNOT believe it. So, sorry for thinking you guys were a bunch of nuts!! Thanks for the wonderful tip!

OMG! I had both hips replaced six months ago, and my physician told me "if you get a UTI (urinary tract infection), you need to get it treated ASAP because there is a strong possibility the infection could spread to your hip joints". What do I wake up with Thursday? A severe UTI, including blood and blood clots in my urine. As an RN, I know when I'm in trouble, and I knew exactly what I had to do -- get to my doctor. But my doctor was gone until Monday. So I figured I'd try something a patient had shared with me years ago, but I pooh-poohed it (because I knew better, after all, I was part of the medical community). So I buy my organic, unfiltered, apple cider vinegar and put it in water just like everyone is saying to do. Not immediate results, but I liked what was happening as I peed more and more clear urine and the horrible urgency and stinging was going away. This is Saturday, and I have absolutely no trace of any infection (even by urine dipstick, which is used in most medical offices). Thanks everyone for your honesty and methods. I truly believe you saved me from having further infection in my body, and probably around my hip prosthetics. LOVE YOU ALL!

Just a little feedback on the ACV remedy to post on the site.
I used ACV to manage the pain from my urinary tract infection (not cure the actual infection).
I had a urinary tract infection (UTI) for about three days. On the third day I was in excruciating pain. I went to the doctor and was given a course of antibiotics and started taking them right away. Unfortunately the antibiotics, although killing off the bacteria, do not help to manage the pain and discomfort in the meantime. Plus, using over the counter remedies to manage the symptoms, such as the Ural sachets, is not an option as they prevent the antibiotics from working.
I had heard ACV helped many women suffering from thrush infections feel better, but was sceptical. Still, in total desperation and unbearable pain, I added two cups of white vinegar (as this was all I had on hand) to a warm, ankle-deep bath. The white vinegar helped a tiny bit. It was enough to help me hobble down the road to pick up some ACV. Again, I added two cups to a warm, ankle-deep bath and sat in it for about half an hour.
The relief! I have no more soreness or burning! I still feel like I desperately need to pee (which is a symptom of the UTI), but I suppose the antibiotics will help that. ACV worked so well in managing my UTI symptoms - I have no idea what I would have done without it. I am so pleased now that the pain has gone and I can concentrate on other things again. I will definitely tell my friends about this one. I also plan to keep a bottle of ACV in the first aid kit for times when I may need it.

Oh my God where do I began. Like many of you I have had a bladder infection also known as UTI and it was so bad on Sunday 01/11/09 I work up and had to urinate and it was filled with blood. I had this now for 2 weeks and I have tried everything. I found this website and saw the testimonials on ACV and I rushed to the store in alot of pain and I came home put to tablespoons in a bottle of 8oz water and when I say I immediatly felt relief of the pain and pressure i couldn't beleive it. I had only drank a half bottle of it and I could already start to feel the difference. This really works. I didn't have medical insurance, and if I could give any woman any advice to help them this is most definelty a perfect remedy for bladder infection and UTI. Please try this it will help you and you too will be amazed. Thank God for this website, Thank God!

I use to get bladder infections ALL the time years ago but stopped then for years and just woke up with one this morning! I was shocked! However, since this has been my favorite site for any ailments I quickly got on to look up what to do for a bladder infection even though I knew ACV would be one to use.
But one thing I saw was to eat lots of celery and cucumbers for the bladder infection. So this morning I drank a huge glass of water with ACV - Another plain glass of water, ate celery and cucs and drank lemon water AND I took marshmallow root which is suppose to be good for a bladder infection too. Then the rest of the day I drank lemon water and I am fine as I sit here and type this out! YAY!
As always - thank you Earth CLinic readers with your advice!

I agree. This site recommends apple cider vinegar as a cure for just about everything and it gives me very painful bladder symptoms. I thought I had a bladder infection after taking it. Doctors did a full scope and tested for any sign of infection and found nothing, but I was in severe pain. Thankfully I found a product (containing D-Mannose, Uva-Ursi leaf extract, Blueberry, Cranberry, Dandelion Root, Taraxacum o cinale, Goldenrod, Goldenseal, Hydrastis canadensis, Parsley juice) which cleared it up. I didn't connect it to the ACV, though until I tried it again about a month later in warm water with honey. Bam! Pain was back again, so I made the connection. This is the first time where I have seen anyone else reacting poorly to ACV. My nerve pain is from a slip and fall in 2009 and I think I have an entrapped pudendal nerve. Can't sit very long without nerve pain. Have had nerve blocks, PT, chronic pain classes and am on Topomax and hydrocodone. Could really use some relief. I'm afraid of any surgery as any error could make it worse. Boo hoo. Everybody's got something, right? God Bless!
