Bad Breath: The best thing I ever did to solve the problem was to add one drop of Gapefruit seed Extract to my toothpaste. I've used everything, but GSE is safe and easy to use and no bad taste

Apples and Cheddar Cheese

I have discovered 2 healthy things my dogs love for treats. Apples and cheese. I cut up a couple apples in small chunks (with peel on) and cut up some cheddar cheese slices (small, but long in length). I give them apples a couple times a day for health benefits (heart, joint inflamation, cleans the teeth..and good breath!) I also give them a very small slice of cheese as bedtime snack.(make the slice long enough that they have to chew it a second and don't immediately swallow it, so it will coat the teeth.) The cheese has been proven to reduce tartar build up. How easy is that? Give yourself these treats too..same benefits!

Bad Breath Caused By Milk:

I suffered from bad breath for as long as i can remember. But never knew why and what was the cause until recently. A few days ago, I started cleaning my colon. While on it I had to follow a strict diet for almost 7 days. I could only eat fruits and vegetables and nothing else. During that time that's when I noticed that my breath was no longer smelling.

You see, I used to eat cereal with milk every morning or at least every other day. Soon after I stopped drinking Milk for about 7 days, the smell went away. Now I eat everything else except milk. The Bad Breath never came back. It's been almost 2 months now. Having bad breath was terrible. It affected every relationship and friendship I had even with my son. I always had a pack of gum in my packet. Today I enjoying my new life.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Daneil (Chicago, IL) on 08/15/2008

Just to let people know that I got a condition known as hairy tongue about a year ago when I first started messing about with H202. If you are going to use it for a mouth wash, make sure that even the 3% Peroxide is diluted. At most, the ratio is supposed to be 1:5 in the water.

Anyway, I took it straight and it caused a horrible unsightly condition called hairy tongue which I have NOT been able to get rid of.
I have posted something on this site about six months ago - tried everything, salt water, h202 dilute, lemon water, brushing it with a scraper etc and NOTHING works.

I am not knowing Hydrogen Peroxide. I am sure it is good stuff and has its uses but don't use it as a mouthwash like I did without diluting it. Be careful when experimenting.

Take Care (and if anyone knows something that can help me, please let me know)

Salt Water Gargle

I struggled with bad breath for years and mouthwash seemed to ultimately make things worse. I have found that swishing a gargling with warm salt water a couple of times a day has totally cured my bad breath. I mix about a tbsp of salt with about six ounces of warm water and sip, swish, and gargle until the cup is empty. Just thought I would share.

Hydrogen Peroxide

I am encouraged by the information on this site as I have suffered from CHRONIC bad breath for over 10 years now. I am almost afraid to put too much hope into the hydrogen peroxide remedy as everything else I have tried has ultimately failed over time. I have had some success with commercial remedies, however, this is always short lived - it is as though my mouth becomes accustomed to the active ingredients and the effectiveness wears off. I would be interested in hearing if people with CHRONIC bad breath have had long term success using hydrogen peroxide. Many thanks!

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hi all... I've had severe halitosis for over 24 years, it's such a crippling and alienating condition to suffer from, like everyone with this ailment, I've suffered my fair share of humiliation and embarrassment, and because of it I've tried effortlessly to find a cure by seeking answers from many 7 dentists, 4 ENTs, 3 Gastroenterologists and over 20 GPs and the list goes on and none were able to help me or even pinpoint the cause of it, they were all puzzled and basically gave up! Tried all the mouthwashes and expensive treatments out there, went on various diets and detoxes, tried endless antibiotics but with no avail!

I tried Hydrogen Peroxide and ACV 3 years ago when I stumbled on this website and guess what? It actually worked! But only temporarily!! The bad breath didn't completely diminish but it improved by probably 90% so at that time I was probably the happiest person on earth because I truly believed that I was finally being cured and that in few more days or weeks the bb will completely disappear! But to my disappointed the bb never really disappeared but instead it came back and neither HP nor ACV worked on me again. It's like the bacteria in my mouth or gut - or wherever it's hiding - had become immune to it. So I was so disappointed and my hopes and dreams were shattered once again!

What I want to know from all of the people who have tried HP and ACV and had positive results with it, whether their cure was short term or they were actually completely cured and bb never returned?

I would also appreciate any suggestions or other cures that might help me with my condition as it's ruining my life.

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Hopeless And Discouraged (New York, US) on 03/28/2015

Desperation and embarrassment let me to searching. I don't know where my father got his information from but for years now I have heard him talking about peroxide as an effective rinse for bad breath. I really did not pay much attention to him even though I'm a nurse and I use peroxide all the time as antibacterial.

This afternoon I was sitting and talking to a few colleagues and the one I was closer to started saying "what is that smell, it smells like a dead rat in here". Having had bad breath for years I immidiately got suspicious. It's like when people sitting next to you all of sudden start fidgeting and looking around and you know next out comes the gum they offer you. Anyone with bad breath history know what I'm talking about. So I looked in her direction and continued talking and she repeated the same thing. Anyway I finshes my talking a little sooner than I wanted to and left together with one other colleague. I went back in and noticed one turned her head away when she saw me and the same colleague was just finishing the same humiliating sentence that she had said before.

I tried to convince myself to give her permission to make me feel bad but she won. I was devastated. I then decided to start looking into peroxide as a mouthwash and I stumbled accross this site.

I have used several different mouthwashes over the years Some were somewhat effective. I never really kept using them for a long time for I'm afraid that long term use of them may cause cancer. This morning, several hours before my humiliation, I used Tom of Maines because it claims to be natural. I have no choice now but to use peroxide and I will definitely do try it and I hope my halitosis and my days of bad humiliation are OVER.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS SITE EITHER BY SHARING THEIR STORIES OR BY PROVIDING SOME KIND OF HELP!

Hydrogen Peroxide

I use over the counter 3% hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash, but have always disliked the aftertaste. I purchased a bottle of peppermint oil from the baking section of my local market, and put one tablespoon in an eight ounce bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Mouth feels very clean (and now minty fresh, too!) Others may like to add their favorite flavors, increasing or decreasing the measurement according to taste. Make sure to GENTLY shake your bottle before opening to keep peppermint oil evenly distributed, and keep your mouthwash in an opaque bottle (I use the same brown bottle purchased at the dollar store). Refrigerate if your bathroom is very warm, and keep bottle out of direct sunlight.

WARNING!

I have always used home remedies when possible. But I have come across situations that have called for a regular doctor. This is not said to cause fear in any way....but about 2 years ago my moms best freind had terrible breath ( which she had for several ongoing years). She ended up having a gall bladder atack and having an emergency removal. They found that her gall bladder was actually begining to turn gangrene. I'm not sure why she had no previous symptoms. I wanted to add this because its important to know the that bad breath is not always a simple solution. It can be a symptom of something extremely serious.

Multiple Remedies

The bacteria that cause bad breath are anerobic which means that they live without oxygen, they also thrive in a high acidic environment. The bacteria are part of the digestive system and start to break down the compounds in the food as we chew them and feed off the protein. Many people on the Atkins diet suffer with BB because it's high in protein and coffee is acidic so this enables the anerobic bacteria to thrive. Most mouthwashes contain alcohol which dries out the mouth and it is our saliva that helps to clean out the mouth and keeps bacteria in check because it contains oxygen and anerobic bacteria cannot survive when the mouth is oxygenated.3% Hydrogen Peroxide(H202)when used as a mouthwash will kill the anerobic bacteria. You will have to dilute the H202 with water, the instuctions should be on the bottle and add some Baking soda(Bicarbonate of Soda) to it,this will neutalise the acid.

My friend who sells herbs and vitamins noticed my bad breath and told me how to cure it. He said my small intestine was in need of good bacteria so he put me on Acidophilus (___, 8 billion) per day and now I not only never have bad breath, my gums no longer bleed and hurt and it is helping me with my fight with Candida. I won't go without the Acidophilus ever again!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Please do not swallow anything you gargle. This places the toxins back inside your body, where as we want to get them out. If you'd like to take ACV as well, I place 2 tablespoons in 8 oz of water and drink this.

I started using hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse 1/2 peroxide 1/2 water....Rinse mouth with the solution and let stand for 2-3 mins, if you look into your mouth you can see the peroxide solution working in between teeth and under the gum line. rinse well after 2-3 min and brush teeth as usual. If you use this solution at night you will notice a lack of morning breath in the am.....The peroxide kills the bacteria that causes bad breath....last but not least...peroxide is cheap!!

I have battled bad breath ever since I gave birth to my first born three years ago. When I had my second child, the smell got even worse. Almost smelled like a "toot"/fart, whatever, it was gross. I tried everything, but THE ONLY thing that has worked for me is gargling w/ hydrogen peroxide. I bought the regular 3% from the drug store and gargle w/ it in the mornings and evenings. The taste is gross, and it leaves a film in your mouth that takes about 5 minutes to disappear, but it's well worth it. After I gargle (20-30 secs. is all I can stand) I immediately use a tongue scraper 5 or 6 times. Make sure you scrape as far back on your tongue as you can and don't eat or drink for 15 minutes afterwards. It's cool b/c once you start to gargle, you can actually feel the hydrogen tingling on your tongue like it's fighting the bacteria. As an added bonus, my teeth are whiter, and my gums and tongue are a healthy pink color. I love this stuff, and at $.99 cents for a bottle, how can you go wrong?!

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Jennifer (Dallas, Tx) on 02/09/2010

Carey, about the taste - go to a local health food store or market and ask for a bottle of peppermint oil (spearmint and vanilla work too) and add a 1 tablespoon in an 8 ounce bottle of peroxide 3% for minty taste (no sugar so it won't be sweet) but it won't have that awful peroxide taste either. Leaves you mouth minty fresh.

Also, Dee, Dilute 1/2 water and 1/2 peroxide. I use two capfuls of HP and two capfuls of water. FYI

Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Jennifer (Dallas, Tx) on 02/09/2010

Correction: regarding amount of peppermint oil used in HP. Originally, i said 1 tsp for 8 oz bottle - not what I meant this was TOO much peppermint and too HOT! (Felt like it burned my tongue!) Try using only 1/4th (few drops) tsp per 8 oz then add more as you adjust to it.

My boyfriend started using pysillium husks a few weeks ago to cleanse his intestinal tract. He felt great, but my God! his breath became so foul!! After a few days of being polite, I finally figured that I needed to say something and help him find a cure. I figured it had to have been caused by a change in his intestinal flora from the pysllium. The change must have caused severe candida overgrowth. His tongue was coated in white -- a sure sign. I had him take a few capsules of ParaGone (it was what was leftover in my medicine cabinet) to start to kill off the candida. That seemed to help, but didn't completely stop the halitosis. This is going to sound gross, but I made him open his mouth to detect whether the stench was coming from his breath, or from his teeth. I have particularly good smell and pinpointed that the smell was coming from the upper right side of his mouth! Well, after that I had him soak his mouth in straight hydrogen peroxide for about 3 minutes. Once it foamed up, I had him to it again. That was the cure! No more bad breath! The peroxide did make his tongue sensitive for a few days, so I would suggest to anyone trying this that they dilute the peroxide in water. I think that bad breath is often a sign of candida or yeast overgrowth so killing it in the mouth with peroxide AND taking some kind of candida cleanse is the answer. One more note: I read on the internet that it can take up to 3 weeks to cure bad breath. Well, this took a few minutes with the peroxide. Don't believe what you read! Hope this helps some of your readers. Thanks.

I have had Bad Breath for as long as I can remember, I just recently tried Hydrogen Peroxide. OMG this has worked better than anything I have ever tried, and I have tried all sorts of stuff. I am using it 100% (thats how desperate I was) but will begin to dilute 50/50. Its hard to tell if you have bad breath unless its morning breath, and that is gone too! I am so glad I read this, I hope this is a permanent remedy. Only people who have had this problem can realize my excitement. Good Luck.

Cranberry Extract
Posted by Michelin (Roswell, Ga) on 10/10/2022

Hi there,

I use organic cranberry extract. Currently I'm using the Dr. Mercola brand. I think any good brand they will work the same. I can tell you that I've noticed body odor going away from the use of these capsules.

In addition to a couple of pills per day I drink organic cranberry juice (unsweetened), and it has completed killed any oral thrush in my mouth. I tried all kinds of remedies to remove the yeast and drinking cranberry was like a miracle!

Remedies I tried that didn't work for oral thrush: Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, Colloidal Silver, CDS (aka MMS), etc. Nano Soma works for oral thrush but it's about $67 per bottle and it may take 2 bottles to work using high doses per day (30 sprays). The $7 bottle of organic cranberry juice worked in like 2 days. Amazing.

I hope this helps:)

I think that the antibiotics remedy for flu (which is a terrible idea by the way because the flu is a viral infection and antibiotics do nothing) killed your good gut bacteria and your digestion has been severely affected. I would recommend you try taking some probiotics like acidophilus as we'll a state digestive enzymes. These enzymes are plant based but you might also need animal based ones. I found quite by accident that eating pork regularly significantly improved my digestion.

  4. Are there are any long term side effects that anyone has noticed?
  5. Is the cure from Bad breath permanent?

Try about a mouthful of apple cider vinegar and swish it around for about 30 seconds and then gargle, spit out immediately and rinse your mouth with cold or warm water because the vinegar is acidic and can wear down your tooth enamel same thing with too much peroxide if you use it without rinsing with water after.. A tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar diluted with 8 ounces of water and a teaspoon or tablespoon of honey is good to drink, it helps in aiding weight loss and also works as an antioxidant. I'm glad you were able to overcome your bad breath.... Cheers! :)

I have found a link to BB with H.Pylori-in the gut. Get rid of the H.Pylori and the BB may cease. Just a thought.

Garlic, Col. Silver and many other things help reduce H.Pylori. It is very difficult to treat...not sure if this will help, but just my first thought to your issue.

May God bless you and help you with this issue.

Re: Bad Breath..

My daughter brushed her teeth twice a day, ate healthy and drank lots of water...and suffered for years with bad breath...It was only as an adult that she often found the bad breath went hand in hand with acid reflux, so she stopped drinking cow's milk for a few months, and experimented with other varieties of milk, finally finding that Almond milk, Coconut milk and sometimes even Rice milk were all good. She stopped drinking coffee and learnt to drink Almond milk chais and no longer has any problem with bad breath .

Do you have root canals? Anaerobic bacteria have been found to be the leading cause of bad breath as well as likely rheumatoid arthritis. You can google this. I do not know if there is a way to rid yourself of these bugs. Theory has it that they still produce in the root canal teeth and migrate into the bloodstream. I suffer too, and wish you health.

I hear you John. Dr's don't know that is why they ignore all who complain. I have been reading about all the BB on the net for the past 2 weeks and it makes anyone cry how much suffering they have gone through and yet no one hears them. Strange. I heard a lecture about some condition fishi breath which is caused by the inability to break down choline. But those ppl have body order as well. BB is another type of metabolic disorder, something is not being able to metabolize and it is excreted via the breath. What type of enzyme is lacking, I do not know. That is what I believe. The only solution is, every hour, rinse and brush (does not have to be with toothpaste) dry brush to remove debris out, drink water, chew on raw vegetable gum. There is no solution to permanently remove, hourly and mindfully remove the built-up bacterial debris out of the back of the mouth, tongue and rinse.

This is all great information - thanks everyone. I have been a halitosis sufferer since puberty & have a good routine (including scraping/hydrogen peroxide & baking soda mix) as well as excellent oral hygiene. The one thing I am missing is real feedback - my wife has given me some at different stages of the day which has been useful but I would really value some more honest feedback. If anyone is Singapore/Malaysia based (or even London as I am there often), please let me know.
