Activated Charcoal

Detoxification is essential for sustaining optimal health amidst the rising levels of toxins in our environment. Nature offers a diverse array of effective solutions for body detoxification. While Milk Thistle is a well-known detox aid, there are numerous other natural alternatives that are equally potent.

Activated Charcoal: The Toxin Absorber

Activated Charcoal is known for its toxin-binding properties. It works by trapping toxins and chemicals in the gut, preventing absorption. This makes it a highly effective remedy for detoxification, particularly in cases of ingested toxins. However, it should be used cautiously and under professional guidance, as it can bind to nutrients and medications.

Milk Thistle: A Liver-Protecting Herb

Although not the primary focus, Milk Thistle is still a valuable natural detoxifier. Its active ingredient, silymarin, protects and promotes the regeneration of liver tissue, making it a supportive supplement for liver health.

Green Tea: An Antioxidant Powerhouse

Green Tea is renowned for its high antioxidant content, making it an excellent choice for supporting liver health and aiding the body in eliminating toxins. Regular consumption of green tea can significantly enhance your body's natural detoxification processes.

Dandelion Root: Nature's Diuretic

Dandelion Root is a natural diuretic that cleans the liver and kidneys. It helps flush out toxins and supports healthy digestion, making it a vital component of any detox regimen.

Turmeric: The Anti-Inflammatory Wonder

With its active compound curcumin, turmeric boosts liver function and possesses strong anti-inflammatory properties. It's an essential spice for anyone looking to detoxify their body naturally.

Lemon Water: Simple Yet Effective

Starting your day with a glass of lemon water can stimulate the liver and improve digestion, aiding the body's natural detox pathways. This simple remedy is both refreshing and effective.

Ginger: For Improved Digestion

Ginger is known for its ability to enhance digestion and reduce inflammation. Incorporating ginger into your diet can support your body's natural detox mechanisms.

Incorporating Natural Detox Remedies into Daily Life

Integrating these natural remedies into your daily routine can be simple and effective. From enjoying a cup of green tea or lemon water to adding turmeric and ginger to your meals, these natural solutions can significantly enhance your body's detoxification process.

Consultation with Healthcare Professionals

It's important to consult with healthcare professionals before starting any detox plan, particularly if you have health conditions or are on medications. This ensures your detox journey is both safe and tailored to your needs.

Conclusion

Natural remedies offer a gentle and effective means of detoxifying the body. By incorporating various solutions and a healthy lifestyle, you can support your body's natural detoxification processes and improve your overall well-being. Remember, a balanced approach is key to a successful detox journey.

Herxheimer Reactions or Toxic Overload:

In the name of being helpful, there is an adage by Hippocrates, which is sworn by every medical doctor. It is, in part.. "FIRST DO NO HARM." This, by the way, is the root of the word "hypocrite, " as in one who takes such an oath, and then does not uphold it.

That said, there are sometimes toxic reactions for two reasons: One, for an overload of a toxic substance, whether it be a poison, or a medication. The other, for a "die-off" reaction, when a toxin is released into the bloodstream from out of an organ or body system. Cleansing too rapidly may cause this toxic reaction, and is therefore to be avoided by detoxifying slowly.

I experienced this firsthand with myself, when cleansing, and discovered that I could not move my arms and shoulders hardly at all, and my heart was racing wildly -- even though I was calm and unafraid. I ran in and mixed up some modified citrus pectin and drank it. I vomited a little, and was then perfectly fine. I recall wondering if I would even have had time to drive to the hospital, or call an ambulance, or if anyone would have known what to do to stop this poison.

What I have discovered, is that there is a law, that all ambulances must carry activated charcoal, to be used to treat many such conditions. It is considered 100% safe.

My other experience was with Marvin, my sweetie, when he went into a condition commonly called ammonia-on-the-brain, or hepatic encephalopathy. The first time it ever happened, I gave him lots of distilled water, and it worked.

The second time, he wound up in the hospital for over two months, and was put on about fifteen medications.

Charcoal was likely the best choice, and would have worked, but was not used... as the standard is to use all possible other medications first, and only last, charcoal. Why this is? I think that answer is fairly said, because it costs about ten cents. Charcoal removes ammonia safely, quickly, and easily, particularly in case of a poisonous condition affecting the liver and brain.

So, here we are, and I can only say, drink lots of (distilled, pure, filtered) water to flush out any toxins, particularly if one has been ill, and is attempting to clear a virus or bacteria. And walk, to get the blood moving to help clear the toxic overload when the buggers die off and are thrown into the bloodstream.

Now, in all fairness, Marvin was not drinking enough water, nor moving about nearly enough, and was also not taking one of his prescriptions to help his bowels move-- because it gave him constant diarrhea. Lemon-aid was also refused for the same reason, which also helps to keep the bowels moving these toxins along.

So-- just wanted to share our experience-- because it was a little trip that led to a very big fall, and could have easily been handled with a little bit of knowledge about a simple, safe substance, called charcoal.

I truly apologize if my recent post caused any difficulty, as I in no way believe that anything suggested here had anything to do with what happened. I believe the man simply wasn't moving enough to move his bowels. "Take up your bed (get up out of bed! ) and walk."

Bentonite, which contains Hydrous Aluminum (Al2O3) Silicate, is very complex in structure and the aluminum, like all of the elements in bentonite clay, is actually part of the bentonite crystal and not leachable by any means. This is due to the fact that the Aluminum is central to the montmorillonite molecule holding the negative charge around it as a cloud of oxygen molecules. In effect, part of the negative charge of montmorillonite is attributed to the aluminum. Removal of the aluminum from the montmorillonite molecule would result in a loss of the drawing properties of the molecule. Our bodies do not have sufficient digestive juices to split apart such a highly negatively charged molecule. So the bentonite clay is inert in that none of it ever leaves your digestive system. It is very complex in structure and all of the trace minerals are actually part of the bentonite crystal and not leachable by any means.

Maybe the above poster would do some more research before putting out wrong information. Many seriously, cronically ill, even terminal people could benefit from this amazing naturally occuring dirt with healing properties from Elohim. There is a lot of misinformation out there about the kinds of bentonite ie: calcium, sodium, etc. If one is wanting to use this clay theraputically then the bestbentonite. (hint) would be one that is 100% Bentonite Clay. It is very inexpensive and should be afforable for all. Also the 100% clay will accomplish whatever you desire using less. E-bay is a good source. I wanted to add something that I had not read in the comments.

I did an external detox that worked very well instead of taking it internally.

What I did was use one teaspoon in a plastic bowl with enough filtered water to more than cover the dry clay, swished it around a bit, put it the window sill in the sun for 2 hours to charge the clay. Next, I 'massaged' the clay with my fingers to get the clumps to become creamy. Once done, it was ready to use.

This may seem unorthodox, but the plastic bags you get at the grocery store come in handy for this detox. I do this in the evening an hour or two before bed, as this detoxes the body while I sleep.

Make sure your feet are clean and apply the clay all over your foot up to the ankle, between the toes, even under the toenails. You should have enough clay to apply 3 coatings to each foot. When you finish with one foot, put on a plastic bag, tie it gently above the ankle and pull the bag forward to allow ample toe room and gently slip your foot into sandals or slippers without ripping the bag in the toe area. Do the other foot the same way.

It will feel slippery, so be careful when you walk around. (Do not walk around with just the bags on your feet, they may tear and allow air to get in and dry out the clay before it can be absorbed).

Drink some water before bed and leave the bags on your feet until morning. Take off the bags and before getting into the tub use a warm moist washcloth to clean the bottom of your feet. (The clay under your feet can be very slippery! )

Keep in mind, if/when you urinate in the morning, if it worked well for you, it may look orange, (much darker than you are use to). That is toxins that were taken out through your system in the absorbtion process during the night.

Never do a facial more than 15 minutes after the clay dries or essential oils will take some time to return and you may get a dry and unnatural tight feeling in your facial skin. If that happens, you can use organic coconut oil to ease the tight feeling and reduce redness. Or use something natural that you feel comfortable with.

I wrote this note so that those having problems ingesting FOOD GRADE Bentonite clay have options for detoxing.

WARNING!

I love your article (Detoxing Remedies) I want you to know that I have been studying herbs and natural remedies for over 30 years. I also come from a long line of herbalist on both sides of my family.

Nonetheless, I want to give you a heads up on bentonite. This is clay that I have been studying for decades. I started researching bentonite after my father, grandmother and aunt end up with a very bad case of Alzheimer's. I also noticed that even young people in their 20's (in the same town my family lived) had difficulties with basic tasks that required simple thinking. The town they lived in has an abundant amount of betonite everywhere. It is a white claylike powder that is on the surface of the ground. I do not know of anyone that does not have betonite in their front and back yard there. I am thankful that I did not spend a lot of years in this town for I am sure that I would now have Alzheimer's (my parent separated when I was a kid).

Well, my research found that bentonite contains up to 18 percent aluminum. Some studies show that there is up to 85% aluminum. Betonite also contain silica and dioxins (a by-product of pesticide manufacture, a toxic compound that is carcinogenic).

It is entirely up to you to change the article and maybe do more research. I am in hopes that you will correct this on your post for the sake of people's health. Detoxing with bentonite pollutes the body even more with toxins. It could also have very fatal health consequences.

Regards,

Mary

This is an excerpt from a Dr. Weil newsletter... which is some positive news for urban dwellers or anyone wanting to detox.

"Researchers from Johns Hopkins and China's Qidong Liver Cancer Institute tested the effects of a tea made with broccoli sprouts among 291 residents of Jiangsu Province, an area of China that which has some of the worst air pollution in the country. The study showed that a daily drink of a half cup of the tea - a combination of freeze-dried broccoli sprout powder, water and pineapple and lime juice - increased elimination of by-products of the cancer-causing toxin benzene by 61 percent, and boosted excretion of acrolein, a lung irritant, by 23 percent. Increased elimination of these substances began immediately after the participants began drinking the tea and continued at the same rate through the study."

Chemical Flushes

Posted by Elly (Topeka, Kansas) on 06/14/2011

I was buying BPA free plastics but I read that tests on those plastics revealed that 90% of them contain different estrogen mimicking chemicals. I look at the many supplements I own that come in plastic containers BPA and BPA-free. Do I switch them to tinted glass bottles? How much is absorbed into the supplement by the time I get it? I've also come to find BPA is in recycled toilet paper and contact lenses and the plastics of eyeglasses and lots of other things. Does anyone know what can we do to flush these chemicals out of our body since we probably can't be 100% free of them? Thanks.

Hello TED. Im 40 and I'm no different than the rest. I'm going to start using borax myself. But my bigger concern is my 4 yrs old son. I cannot afford filter for fluoride removal from water. So I figured I can give him borax to detox fluoride. but he is so young. Is it going to be ok same amount I consume? And the magnesium supplement for him? Plus he likes taking baths. But I smell the chlorine in the water besides he has mild eczema. How do I make the bath water safer for him besides using filter (like I said he likes to fill up the tub, cannot afford replacement filters.) I came cross seaweed is detox almost most chemicals and heavy metals from water. Do you have any info on this? Or baking soda or something what do you think? Thank you soo much in advance.

Hi Tula from Tampa,

We don't have the funds now to purchase a whole-house water filtration system, and for our son's baths I used Epsom salt, fresh lemon slices/juice and Borax or Baking Soda to counter the chlorine/chloramine and flouride. There were no ill effects from using 1-2 cups of E salt (1 cup if I wanted our son to stay awake the rest of the day, or 2 cups for relaxation), juice from 1/2 a small lemon and a slice or two floating in the water, and one tablespoon of Borax or Soda. I made sure the Borax or Soda was completely dissolved before he climbed in. He didn't have a bath every day--every other day or two suited him, and me. If you do the same, make sure you're son understands not to swallow the bath water--E. salt encourages bowel movements.

Our son doesn't take many baths now since I purchased a filtering showerhead, but when he does, I do fill the tub through the showerhead. Unfortunately the filter doesn't filter fluoride. A chemist friend told me that the fluoride particulate isn't small enough to penetrate and be absorbed by the skin. I don't know if I believe this completely though. He did continue to say that it is the steam that should be a concern. Use cold or lukewarm water and use the bathroom fan.

I have my son drink water w/lemon before and after bathing these days, to help flush his system.

HTH,

Sheila

Regarding chlorine / chloramine removal. I use a shower filter with vitamin c in it to dechlorinate the water. They also sell vitamin c dechlorinating tablets for bath water - I've found 100 for under $19 and you only need to use a 1/2 tablet per bath. There are also dechlorinating bath balls on the market which last a yr before replacement crystals req'd. I've seen 2 kinds - one attaches onto your faucet (looks like a small round bucket) & water passes thru, but I hear water pressure makes it come off/water flows over filter and is not treated. The other is like a caged ball you swish thru bath water. Note -any bath products should be added after water has been treated-not during or before. I hope this helps.

Sodium Thiosulfate detoxes and neutralizes chlorine and I believe flouride. I take the chrystals on the 'off borax' days; and when my water gets bleached (not by me! ) I through the STh into the bath water. hope this helps.

I used coffee enemas after being exposed to severe chemicals from a new sofa. The outgassing was so strong I was sent into toxic shock and my entire nervous system and immune system went haywire. I was diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis. My friend told me about coffee enemas, and I did 1 a day. After 7 days I was 80% better! And completely cured after 3 weeks. I juiced a lot as well. I have found a great glass enema bucket to use, since I have allergies. I recommend Gerson Therapy for anyone needing detoxification of the liver and blood.

I do 20 minutes oil pulling with organic virgin coconut oil first thing in the morning. I brush my teeth, dissolve 1 TB baking soda in 2 TB ACV, add 8 oz. Purified water and drink. From 30 to 60 minutes thereafter I purge anywhere from 1 to 3 lbs of foul water from my bowels. I feel like crap (sorry) during this time, but then I feel really good, and this doesn't happen again all day. My routine is just as I described; I'm not eating anything to provoke this reaction. It feels like detox and smells like detox (sorry! ) sometimes skunky / sulphery odor. I figure it's better out than in :P Any feedback or similar experience?

When 7 years old, I nearly died with nepthritis [ kidney disease ]. At 39 year old, the pain in that area made me almost weep and it needed to be stopped. I felt something inside said to fast, take only lemon juice and eat "raw" comfrey - I did this from 4.00 pm friday until lunch time sunday and I have never had a pain there since and I am now 68years old. "I thank God for Comfrey" - since then I have spoke to people who have also been set free of disease in the kidneys through comfrey and its healing "alantoin". I only ate about 7 hand sized leaves over 3 days.

Detoxing From Arsenic

Well now there is another study saying toxic levels of arsenic are being found in store bought fruit juices. My children have been drinking this stuff for years and I am concerned. I had knew what Dr. Oz had said, sometime ago. But when I checked the manufactors, it did not list the ones I was using. This newest study has the brands my children have been drinking.

I have now stopped the juice, Hopefully Bill can tell me of a safe way to detox my children from the arsenic that they have consumed through the juices.

Also, I use the apple juice / apple cider vinegar for gall bladder attacks.

This just goes to show, that the FDA is not protecting the people as they claim. They first attracted Dr. Oz when he put out his study and now another study is confirming this.

Hi Rebel from somewhere... I am currently seeing a Dr who now specializes in a German Listening Computer that reads your body - heavy metal levels, immune system etc. I had a high level of arsenic and he said one of the main causes of this is from garlic grown in China that is sold in all the supermarkets. I had been eating a lot of raw garlic at night for candida and mold so it rang true. He recommends only eating organic garlic.

Incidentally he doesn't recommend organic flour, cereals or nuts as he says a lot of them have molds as they haven't been sprayed. Hard to tell which is better - the poisonous sprays or the molds! The more I read and learn the more confused I get. Thank you everyone for your posts - I am learning so much. All the best.

Hi Rebel, I think that it is the apple juice that is made in China that has arsenic in them. Dr Oz said there are only traces of arsenic in them but if you drink it twice a day every day then this would add up to a substantial amount. He said he would give his kid's apple juice but only every once in a while. Maybe once a week I would assume. Lily.

Hi Rebel... There is an easy way to detox arsenic. Much has already been said on the usefulness of Sodium Thiosulfate(ST) on this site for detoxing heavy metals. But ST is also used by the medical profession to help recover people suffering from both cyanide and arsenic poisoning by removing these substances from the body safely. You can buy this online or you can simply go to an aquatics shop and buy the ST there(where I got my ST). Usually it is sold as a 10% solution and is mainly used to remove chlorine from fish tanks because chlorine is highly poisonous to fish. The dosage is 8 to 10 drops in a glass of water(half this dose for children). ST is tasteless and easy take. But when you take ST for the first time it is likely that you will have diarrhea initially -- but this is only due to the ST flushing out heavy metals initially from your intestines and this normally only ever happens once -- it depends on the extent of heavy metals absorption in your body at the time. When I first took ST, I never had diarrhea so it doesn't always happen.

My own detox strategy, since I regard buying organic food as impossible where I am living now, is therefore completely defensive and preventative. So it becomes necessary for me to detox myself continuously against heavy metals, halogens, pesticides and all the rest. For this I simply use alkalizing, lugol's iodine, ST, Vitamin C and fulvic/humic acid as my basic strategy and I also support my liver(which is the main detoxing organ of the body) and kidneys using Alpha Lipoic Acid, Selenium, Milk thistle and Chanca Piedra. This liver support greatly stimulates Glutathione production in the liver, which aids in detoxing and purifying the blood. I also alkalize regularly and drink green tea quite often and I eat cilantro in salads several times a week which all helps to remove heavy metals and helps to balance calcium in the body.

To Tiffany see the newest consumer report article in current issue 11/2012. Rice is the biggest concern and especially the one grown in the USA. You may want to check other sources because with pesticides heavily used in the US the inorganic arsenic is now found in high levels in ALL rice (and fruit juice etc). The one with lowest level came from India but that was just one brand. So your apples juice made in US wouldn't make any different and apperentaly even organic unfortunatley doens't make a difference. It's sad how this has been so undedected for years and government is only starting to look into it.

I had a barium swallow with follow through. I was hesitant because barium is radioactive element. Later that night the lower part of my face was swollen with some hives. I took bendryl with aspirin as instructed by my Dr.the next day I felt shaky, my heart was pounding, my blood pressure shot up I had breathing difficulties, and I was sweating. We went to the ER by the time I saw the dr my symptoms began to subside. The dr did not think this was from barium! According to research my symptoms are directly related to barium many people have suffered from the same exact experience that I have it is clearly due to barium overdose. On the way home I had similar symptoms, I was so scared. How does one remove baruim out of the system quickly and safely?

Hi dayve sorry to hear your story about your health problems. I am not a doctor or any such and especially since I have not seen you I cant diagnose you. But if you want to detox barium I can give you a serious advice. You can use epsom salt especially the sulfur part of epsom salt reacts extremely with barium and detoxes it. Magnesium and Calcium also both hinder it to be absorbed into the nerves and bones since it is a aniagonist to calcium and magnesium also I think. What I recomend you to get some epsom salt powder and/or magnesium calcium tablets 2:1 and maybe chlorella could also be helping. Certain herbs are also blood purifying but I dont know any which chelate barium. Trust me epsom salt is a guarantee detoxing barium. I advice you also to read more about barium at wikipedia to know what you are handling with.

It seems unreal that Barium could stay in the body this long, but anything is likely. One has to wonder it the radiation exposure damaged the thyroid but I'm praying that it is just toxic effect from barium long. l faithfully continue the Espsom salt and see what happens.

It got so bad I have never been so sick in my whole life. You can trust my advice these which I have told would work is because it did work for me and others. Hi. Our family suffered a near tragedy seven weeks ago when my husband nearly died in a car from carbon monoxide poisoning. Since that time we have noticed increased memory problems (he's always had some memory issues but they are worse now), fatigue, and even a loss of his normal voice. He used to have a lovely singing voice but can't hit many of the notes any longer.

He is 59 years old, overweight, high blood pressure and borderline diabetic. He suffers from depression (since he was a child) and has recently been diagnosed as bipolar. I've been reading online about carbon monoxide poisoning and realize that is what's causing his symptoms. The doctors will only say that we should give it 6-12 months and the effects may reverse.

Is there something he can do now?

In reply to Linda: Try researching melatonin and its protective effects on the brain after damage from different insults. Carbon monoxide poisoning will probably have some similarities with stroke damage as both involve lack of oxygen to the brain for a period of time resulting in increased oxidation and free radical production which will damage the cells. Melatonin has been shown to be safe in humans at pharmacological dosing and is a potent antioxidant that can readilly cross the blood/brain barrier to get to the damaged areas. Melatonin has shown some benefit in diabetes also, but you need to consult with your doctor and get his/her approval before using melatonin for any medical purpose as the suggested dose is likely to be 20mg to 70mg per night, not the usual 3 to 5 mg dose used as a sleep aid. I can tell you from my own experience at 60 mg per night, my main side effect was morning drowsiness, which slowly declined over three weeks of use, but I had this same effect at 20mg per night and it too dissipated over a couple of weeks.

More specific to CO poisoning, Russian scientists have been testing a combination supplement called "Cytoflavin", as an injection/infusion.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22997755
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22665729
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22238986

Cytoflavin appears to be composed of the following: Succinic acid, Inosine, Nicotinamide and Riboflavin Sodium Phosphate. Here is a link to the only website I found that has information on it: http://www.polysan-ru.com/products/cytoflavin/injections/

It looks like your doctor would have to contact them about local availability.

Lastly curcumin has shown some benefit, but curcumin requires high dosing and I'm not sure that curcumin can traverse the blood/brain barrier very easilly. As a potential alternative, Meriva, a liposomal form of curcumin that is available in capsules from most major online vitamin suppliers may be more useful as it is promoted as being able to enter body tissues readilly and have longer staying capabilities than regular curcumin while requiring a significantly lower dose than standard curcumin. Again, you would need to get your doctors approval before using meriva or melatonin or cytoflavin, assuming cytoflavin is even available here.

Good luck with your research!

If I might add, I get best results by taking NAC and Selenium in combination with Melatonin, as used together, significantly boost the body's master antioxidant Glutathione.

Timh: Regarding "NAC and Selenium in combination with Melatonin", how much per dose, how many doses per day and for how long (days, weeks, months, or till symptoms disappear) shall he take these? I want to be sure not to over or under dose him.

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

In reply to Linda:

I did not recomend NAC in my previous post to you, even though it is well known to improve glutathione production in the human body as well as detoxify because the following abstract implies that it may cause other issues when used for the purpose of carbon monoxide poisoning. This abstract is suggesting melatonin did not have the same problem as NAC:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20586144

The problem is this is a rodent study and may or may not translate into human use, but I was thinking to err on the side of safety and melatonin has a very good safety profile. This abstract does not go into much detail as to what the exact problem was with NAC.

Linda: Follow the recommended dosage on the product labels. The NAC probably 1 or 2 500mg on empty stomach once day. Selenium 200 mcgs once day. Melatonon at least 3 or up to 9 or more mg once daily before retiring. These recommendations are safe for long-term defense.

As for your report of husband's chronic conditions, the above will help, but I would also recommend a very good health food store brand mens mult. W/ every meal. Extra antioxidant supplements you might consider is vit-a, vit-e, zinc, vit-c. The mineral Chromium (as Picolinate) in combination w/ Cinnamon will help prevent diabetes. ACV will help the hypertension.

Also, to boost the body's natural defense and restore cellular vitality, try Wheat Sprouts. The Wheat Sprout Enzymes will breath new life to the sick cells.

In addition, I would very much recommend hot baths w/ 1/4 cup Epsom Salt and 1/4 cup Baking Soda, as these salts will help neutralize toxins as well as eliminate them through sweating. One main bad side effect of chemical exposures is acidosis. Acidosis prevents the production and utility of enzymes and coenzymes. The salts reverse the acidosis and greatly improve oxygenation (which is the goal of all the antioxidant supplements). 2 or 3 baths per wk. untill substantial recovery.

My apologies on the lengthy recommendations, but events (chemical exposures) like these plus the aging factor, plus the preconditions you detailed, could spell a rapid or irreversible decline. Hopefully the protocols will restore your husband's health.

Please update us any progress or changes.

An update on his condition: He came home early from work (he stands at work for 11.5 hrs a day). While at work he used the men's room and discovered his urine was the color of cranberry juice. I had him call his doctor and she told him she was "worried" and wanted him to go for a urinalysis. He arranged to leave work early so he could go to a lab this afternoon. Unfortunately the lab won't have any results for us till Mon or Tue. Why do things always seem to happen on the weekends?

Art: Thank you for the link. I understand your thoughts regarding the rodents. It's often difficult to extrapolate to humans, isn't it. I will continue my studies and present all I have learned here and elsewhere to my husband for his thoughts. I appreciate that you are trying to cautious.

Timh: My thanks to you as well for the clarification as to strength, dosing, etc. My husband already takes ACV (although due to his memory issues, not as often as he had). With the help of ACV, his blood pressure improved so much his doctor cut his blood pressure medication dosage in half last summer. She was quite pleased.

He does take Vit C now - 1,000 mg twice a day. I will look into purchasing the rest but I'm afraid to start anything till we know why his urine looks so bloody. I am really concerned and wonder if this is related to the poisoning or something else entirely? He's been quite tired but we had assumed it was going back to a difficult job after nearly four weeks out due to his health.

I'll keep you both advised.

Thank you both - Linda

Hi Linda, I read your post last night and I am sorry to hear about your husband. It reminded me of a situation that happened to me and my family about 40 years ago, I was about ten and I remember it pretty clearly. It was winter and the house was kept closed up pretty tight, we had a problem with our heater. The entire family (5) of us were very ill. We thought we had the flu and my mom and I went to the Dr. Of course we were "fine" in his opinion. My brother and father felt better when they were outside, but me, mom and my sister in law were really hit hard, kept passing out, stumbling around, headache... Just sick. Finally my mom told my brother to call an ambulance.... An hour later we were in the emergency room, x rays and oxygen... Come to find out we were a few hours away from death. Long story short, we all recovered so I'm hoping your husband recovers as well.... just want to give you some hope.

In reply to Linda: I'm sorry to hear about this new complication for your husband.

Since you have the weekend to "research", I am attaching links to studies about melatonin that you may find helpful. I wanted to attach a chart that shows how melatonin declines as we age, but I don't know how to take it from "my documents" and place it into this message. Basically it shows a steady rise from the age of 3 months until the age of 6 years followed by a relatively flat period from 6 to 12 years of age followed by a fairly steep decline from the age of approximately 12 to 14 years when it peaks around 125 pg/ml to the age of about 57 where it starts to flatline around 5 pg/ml on into the 70's and 80's....... basically a negligible amount.

The following link discusses melatonin and how it is much more than just another potent antioxidant:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2582546/

This next link discusses at length the anti-inflammatory effects of melatonin as well as interactions and protective effects to the brain and central nervous system:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3001216/

The following link is to a human study that used 10mg of melatonin per day combined with Omeperazole to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers and h. pylori intestinal infection:

http://www.jpp.krakow.pl/journal/archive/10_11/pdf/521_10_11_article.pdf

This next link is to an abstract of another human study that shows that the increased antioxidant potential caused by melatonin supplementation continues for more than a week after discontinuation of supplementation:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20577026

This next link is to an abstract of a double blind placebo controlled study of COPD in humans where melatonin was shown to have some benefit, however the dose was quite low at only 3mg/day. Further studies at higher doses for COPD seem warranted:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22507631

A quick word about melatonin as a radioprotectant:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22185900

The next two abstracts are from a two stage study of melatonin in the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy using 70 mg of melatonin per day for at least 9 months with significant results:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20210854

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21515247

There is quite a bit of research regarding melatonin and its beneficial effects in cancer as well as its synergism with multiple chemo agents. Melatonin also has the ability to help protect the human body against some of the negative effects of chemo and radiation therapy. One scientist (Lissoni P. ) that I have read some of the studies has been researching melatonin since the mid 1980's and has done the majority of these studies in the relationship of melatonin and cancer. The last study I could find was dated, in 2012, so almost 30 years of studying that cancer/melatonin relationship. I think it says a lot that a scientist has basically devoted their career to mainly researching one substance, melatonin!

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22933147

So that should give you some good study material to research and help you understand the true value of melatonin in many health conditions. These links that I have posted here are just the tip of the iceberg as far as the total potential of melatonin. The more you research it, the more you will realize just how much potential melatonin has. I hope melatonin will be helpful and your husband will make a full recovery!

Good reading to you.

Art, Wow! This will be a lot of reading and I look forward to it. I start back at my work tomorrow so I will have a little less time than I've had these past 6 weeks. I've been on FML (Family Medical Leave) in order to help my husband since his release from the hospital but I must return to work. I won't have access to the internet at work so I will read what I can once home in the evenings.

I can't thank you enough for all the links you have sent. The medical doctors he has seen are all taking a "wait and see" attitude. My feeling is that his brain and other affected organs need help and support now, not a year from now!

I'll pass on the results from his lab work as soon as we hear - that should be tomorrow (Monday) or Tuesday.

Thank you again and God Bless, Linda

Linda: I have suffered w/ Chemical Injury for many years, and have almost died twice. I can tell you from personal as well as others experiences, that 98% Medical Doctors (MD's) DO NOT treat Chemical Injuries except as Emergency Medicine. Environmental Illnesses are not legitimate, and the people who live to deal with them almost always get diagnosed as psychosomatic and are prescribed mood altering medications; this is the sad reality of how the system works. As for the 2% MD's that do treat environmental diseases, they constantly brace themselves against harassments and lawsuits. I think the majority of these Dr's are listed under Occupational Medicine. You might also search for "Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy" as this helps people recover from chemical exposure.

As all the info you'r reading can be confusing and you don't seem to be able to adopt any simple "safe" ( it is very common for people to view Nutritional Supplements in the same category of "safe" as prescription & otc drugs, when in fact nutritional supplements a way very much more safer and in large quantities compared to drugs) solutions for treatment, try and find a Natural Doctor (ND) in your area. ND will get your husband on a regimen of Natural Medicine that will likely save his life.

Hi Tim, I couldn't agree with you more as a result of personal experience. I worked in an office where there was a safety person always checking the air, and I repeatedly heard him say the gas is a little high. The doors would be opened and that was it. I didn't think much of it. I began to feel sick and hot at work, and by the time I get home I couldn't eat and thought I was getting the flu. By the next morning, I felt well again and the whole thing would start over. It suddenly occurred to me that the high gas levels were CO, which I couldn't actually believe, so I called the safety guy at home one evening and he confirmed it was CO! I went out and bought a CO detector, and when I put it in my office, it went off detecting lethal levels. There was a crack in the furnace that was venting into my office and other places in the plant. We got it fixed immediately. But, to my astonishment, my doctor (former doctor now) would not see me. She had no appointments, even two weeks out and said evening appts. We're for chronic illnesses, like headaches, when a sore throat would normally get you in that day. I could get no one to see me, just for advice in case my heart or liver had been damaged. It was too late to go to the ER because I had been breathing oxygen by this time, and they said that is all they would do for me anyway. I have been distrustful of the medical community ever since. And I never had any inclination to sue anyone, if the Worker's Comp issue was the problem. I just wanted some information and advice, but no one would help me. So you are exactly correct in your thinking.

Detoxing From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

I was exposed to exhaust fumes inside my car and was sick off and on for 3 weeks. I have stopped driving the car (last Wed was last time) but still feel ill off and on. I've been doing hydrogen peroxide footbaths and inhaling, coconut oil and ACV daily. Do I need to go get oxygen therapy at a doctor's or will these symptoms go away now that I'm not driving it?

Good luck trying to get any help from a doctor, unless you went to the emergency room immediately after exposure. I was subjected to lethal levels of CO at work when the furnace behind my office developed a crack. We had a person who had a machine to check the air quality and he had repeatedly said the gas was high. I couldn't even imagine that it was CO and with full knowledge, no one was called in. Only the doors were opened until it cleared temporarily. I kept thinking I had the flu and felt sick every evening, but by morning I felt better and went back to work.

One night I figured it out, called the air quality guy at home and asked him if it was CO that he was measuring and he said yes. I called my Dr. and they wouldn't even give me an appointment. Told me evening appts. were for people with on-going illnesses, like headaches. I told them I would wait for my turn but said they had nothing available. Went to another dr and was told all they would do at the emergency room was give me oxygen and that is what I had been doing all along (I guess she meant I had been breathing).

It was obvious to me that CO poisoning was taboo to the doctors, maybe OK at the ER. I asked if I should have my brain, heart or liver checked for damage and that was a no, too. I have never filed any lawsuit in my life, have good insurance so it had to be the Drs unwillingness to get involved with any possible workers comp patient. I finally bought a CO monitor and put it in my office. It went off at very high readings and finally someone was called to fix the furnace. It was never my intention to hurt the company but I would have liked to have gotten checked out for my own peace of mind.

He has been dealing with pain in upper stomach for 30 years. Nerves activate it . Very painful in fetal position for 24 hours now ? What can I start to do to alleve the pain? Worried, Kelly

Dear Kelly,

So sorry about your friend! I have already suggested charcoal to a number of people today... But it does have so many applications!

Charcoal adsorbs chlorine, so it is indicated for chlorine poisoning. Of course, by now it may be just the damage done and not the chlorine itself causing trouble, but it is still a good choice for detox and for pain. Your friend could use charcoal poultices over the pained area. (Directions are in the activated charcoal section of this website. ) He could also take 1 t. activated charcoal in 8 oz. of water 2-3 times a day.

Slippery Elm Bark Powder is also soothing and healing to the gut. You can make a healing porrige with 1 T. of the powder and stir in warm water, a little honey and a pinch of salt and he can eat this a few times a day.

Comfrey and plantain are also healing and soothing. He can make a tea with these herbs and drink liberally. Avoid foods that are hard on the system - fried foods, coffee, soda pop.

Is this normal for your friend? Has he ruled out other causes of this pain? Does he have other symptoms or fever? I have made the mistake for myself of assuming one this is causing my problems and nearly missed an emergency situation. (I thought I had indigestion but really had a rupturing fallopian tube.)

Please keep us posted on your friend's progress.

Charcoal is wonderful for detox. You can get a container of activated charcoal powder at your health food store. Mix 1 1/2 t. In 8 oz. Water and drink it twice a day. Do not take with 2 hours of medication as it will adsorb them as well as toxins. Do this for a couple of weeks.

You can also take a charcoal bath. 1 cup of charcoal in the bath water. Soak 30 minutes. Shower afterwards. Charcoal baths are messy, though. Be careful if you have low blood pressure as charcoal baths can lower blood pressure. You could also just do epsom salt baths. I would do some sort of detox bath 3x a week for a couple of weeks.

Hello, I'm looking for as much information and a possible list of things to get for my situation... And any guidance too, my sister final admitted her opiate addiction to me.. I've moved in and today will be the first day of her withdrawals, I'm the only one she has through this and want to help introduce her to natural healing during this.. Show her that prescribed drugs aren't necessary to live a fulfilling life. Maybe even show her the light...

I've heard melatonin to help sleep, loperamide to help with diarrhea, milk thistle (but not sure how or why) vitamin b and c and St. John's wort tea. Any other suggestion of what could help and why would be appreciated so much. I'm scared to see my sister like this but know I have to be strong for her.

Dear Cody,

Your sister is blessed to have you helping her!

You already have great ideas and I am sure your love and emotional support will be the most important thing of all.

Milk Thistle is something people use to help detox the liver, by the way.

Epsom Salt baths are good for detoxing and for relaxing. 1 cup Epsom Salt in a warm/hot bath for 20-30 minutes.

If it is possible to take a walk, exercise and sunshine are both critical for mental and physical health.

Castor Oil packs help to detox. You can use them over the liver area. I find that using a castor oil pack with a heating pad to be relaxing.

Please let us know how it goes. God bless you and your sister during this challenging time!

Make sure the rooms you are occupying are free of noise and at night, completely dark, cool rooms. Limit electronic exposure - play card games, board games for distraction. For sleeping, place a thin layer of castor oil on her eyelids to help her sleep. (I have tried this in the past - it works)! Keep her hydrated with water. Be as kind, gentle, loving and as patient as you can. All negative influences are off the table at this point. Lastly, if you have the energy, give her some good coconut oil massages to help relax.

Your kindness toward your sister will be remembered forever - this is not easy!

MyWay,

:D
