Cheese

I've had very watery diarrhea for three days, and tried several things - cider vinegar, activated charcoal, turmeric, rice water - with no success.
I read something in a book of mine which suggested cheese. This seemed kind of counterintuitive, I've not been eating in the hope that this would run its course, but figured I would give it a go. So I had some cheese, and I was kind of hungry so it was welcome, and a couple of hours later another piece.
Well, I now feel so much better, no more rushing to the toilet. Apparently it sort of binds things up - whatever the case, it's worked.

Apple Cider Vinegar for Diarrhea:
I agree with another writer who wrote this stuff is miraculous. It tastes bad, but the results are so amazing, I am happy to chug it.
I put 2T of apple cider vinegar--just the regular kind from my grocery store--into 6 ounces of water. I could feel the difference in about 15 minutes--this after four weeks of agony, and countless doses of probiotics, vomiting and diarrhea.
My guess is that I developed c. difficile colitis related to months of antibiotic use. Anyway, I could barely eat, I was miserable and nothing worked. This did. In spades. Today I have no symptoms.
Last night I drank 3 glasses of the mixture. Today I have sipped on one glass, throughout the day, not because I need it, only because I am in awe of it. This stuff is like some elixir of the gods. Whatever miraculous thing it did to my body, I'm all in. Thanks Earth Clinic .

In my experience that much nutmeg is um, intoxicating. I would be careful with this one.

Reading some of the posts on how to eliminate or manage GI problems I wanted to put my 2 cents in.
I have been managing my GI problems now for over a decade; going to two different GI doctors and being told there is nothing wrong that it is just stress. There are times that doctors can't fix you so you have to do it yourself.
I have tried prescriptions from the doctors, activate charcoal, Aloe Juice, OTC and none of it is a true fix. Either I feel more dehydrated or backed up; the activated charcoal messed with my life saving medications. I have had my gallbladder removed, doctors thought that was the problem.
I have found one simple thing that works. The old saying of an apple a day keeps the doctor away. It's true! As long as I eat one apple a day I don't have diarrhea or painful cramps. It doesn't matter the type of apple, I do change them up so I can have a bit of variety. Apples have pectin, which will help bind better than Prevalite powder, and apples taste way better.
I am not saying don't take the prescriptions your doctor say to take but try a apple a day. I have found that for me if I limit how much onions, garlic, tomatoes, and greasy foods I eat it helps. But on my cheat day and I get fried chicken I make sure I eat at least two apples.
By eating a apple a day I was able to cut out 3 medications; I do have breakthrough days but it is only if I don't eat apples or went over broad on the fried chicken.

Hello - In the spring I got some kind of apparent flu bug that caused unbelievable explosive diarrhea. Neither an otc product nor a prescription helped at all. For 2 weeks there was no let up. I read on the net that cayenne pepper can help as it kills bacteria. I began taking 2 capsules a day on a mostly, or totally, empty stomach with two glasses of water to prevent a burning sensation in my stomach. I started getting better in a day or two and in a week the explosive diarrhea was gone.
Thanks for your wonderful site!

ACV for diarrhea:
Have had a one week bout of "the runs"... Took two tablespoons of ACV in water, drank with straw as to not mess up my teeth and Blam! It stopped in 4 hours. I tell you - this stuff is a life saver! I'll continue that dose 2x a day for awhile. Thanks earth clinic!

Black tea works well for me. I don't split the tea bag open, I just drink a hot cup of black tea and it calms my stomach immediately and usually stops the diarrhoea quickly. I crave black tea when my stomach's bad. I think our bodies often know what's best for us.

I am on a juice fast and had horrible diarrhea with stomach cramps and shooting pains in my lower digestive tract for hours. I felt so bad that I came to Earth Clinic to try to ANYTHING to feel better. I had tried ginger tea with raw honey, but that didn't do the trick. I read the comment and decided to try 1 TBS of ACV (with the mother) in a glass of water and within minutes ALL of the pain, cramps and rumbling completely stopped and I haven't had any diarrhea since. It is a "miracle cure"! Thank you!
Turmeric

Hello Phil,
I have given my children turmeric for many things and found it to be quite safe and effective for them. For a 4 year old or so, I have mixed 1/4 teaspoon in some applesauce, yogurt, or honey 3 times a day. For a 10 year old I might give 1/2 teaspoon three times a day. For a teen, I would give 3/4-1 teaspoon, the same as an adult. Just sharing you that to give a starting place to dose children.
Since turmeric is a food, it should be compatible with medication. However, turmeric can be constipating if enough water is not taken. Just keep that in mind with whatever medication is being given. I once used Immodium about 25 years ago. I guess it stopped the diarrhea but caused such terrible stomach pain in my (and my husband) we never have used it again.
Hope that helps.

Black Draught

Clover Salve
Any salve can be made with an infused oil (infuse with the plant you want to use) This would vary based on the oils you choose, infusion method and plant. Then you add 1/3 part of infused oil, 1/3 other carrier oils (selected for properties) and 1/3 natural beeswax. These recipes could have been as numerous as the homes that used them based on what clovers were accessible in the area. Red Clover is supposed to be a good one for skin issues.
Beeswax has to be melted to mix - but that is all. infuse, melt, mix, cool. You can find basic infusion methods on the internet and many different salve recipes as well as tutorials also. Unless you had a 'clover oil' then you would want to infuse yourself. Its not difficult and saves money although not time :)

My grandmother always had us drink some dill pickle juice for diarrhea. Usually worked within a day!
Her remedies were passed down from her mother and grandmother She believed in castor oil...or Black Draught syrup...Clover Salve... If one of those didn't cure you or kill you....then you went to the doctor (she always called him the 'pill-crusher')
I can vouch for the dill pickle juice.

I had severe Diarrhea for 2 weeks. I was getting weak and dehydrated. it was embarrassing and scary. I took 2 capsules of activated charcoal in the morning, then in the middle of the night I took 2 more. It worked 100%. I'm totally better. I also took ACV 2 tbsp, with 1 tbsp of honey, with a splash of warm water. I am a huge fan of ACV. I think it was the charcoal that cured me though, or perhaps the combo. THANK GOD! I was really sick. I'm good now. Thank you everyone for your posts. :o)

I woke up at dawn not feeling quite right. Ate light, then started running from the bottom and then both ends. I finally (DUH! ) thought of Earth Clinic. Followed the advise of others and drank 1 tbsp of ACV w/mother. Figured if I threw it up, so what, it's worth a try. Like a MIRACLE cure! First the nausea went away immediately, then the lower stomach aches, cramps and running stopped. I've since had a cup of, hot broth and will soon have some toast. Thanks to all of you and this great website.

Freshly made Pomegranate juice is a miracle cure for diarrhea. Make u drain out juice after juicing. Instead of juicing you can crush seeds in your mouth, take in juice and spit out seeds. That is what I liked to do since had no energy for juicing at that time. You can eat a porridge of tapioca root. Combination pomegranate and tapioca root works wonders.
Parasite Cleanse for Chronic Diarrhea

I used a product at Whole Foods Market. The product contains some pills and a tincture of Wormwood. It was just after I first took the wormwood tincture that I felt a profound stillness in my whole being, like the parasites had been stunned. Yes, I believe I know how I got the parasites. Since I always wash my produce before I eat it, I believe I got them at a restaurant from someone else who was infected and then prepared my food without washing their hands. They probably had parasite eggs under their fingernails. An interesting thing that happened about a month before I started getting the diarrhea was that one day I started having very hard contractions in my belly, the whole abdominal area. No pain, just very strong contractions. It lasted the whole day and it was only for one day. It was very weird, as I had never had anything like that before if I wasn't actually having a baby! I think that could have been my body's first attempt at getting rid of the infestation. I also had fairly severe pain in the left leg during this time of diarrhea. When the parasites left, so did the leg pain!! I think they were nesting in an intestinal area adjacent to a nerve and just the bulk of them was enough to irritate that nerve that goes down into the leg!

In December of 2012 I suddenly began having watery, explosive diarrhea up to 30 times a day! I couldn't work, as I drive for a living. I tried almost every remedy on this site and others. The first thing my doctor did, at my request, was order a parasite test. It came back negative (which was not accurate). As the months went by and I kept losing weight, the doctor eventually had me tested for hyperthyroid. I developed extreme, forceful rapid heartbeat, anytime I ate. I would actually see the undigested food I ate in the toliet, it went through me within an hour or 2. I was then diagnosed with hyperthyroid and began seeing an endocronoligist and taking prescribed medication. After the second day on medication, something within myself said to at least try a parasite cleanse. By this time I had been off work 8 months and had lost 30 lbs. I looked like I was dying and I was actually starving to death because everything went through me so quickly. I purchased a good quality 28 day parasite cleanse and from the very first dose, something just felt different within me. By the third or fourth day, I started seeing these weird parasites in the toliet. Day after day, hundreds. Not worms, but weird bug like things called cryptosporidium. By the time the 28 day cleanse was over, I no longer had diarrhea! I went back to work, and now, a year later that nightmare is just a distant memory. I got to thinking about it later that testing for parasites is probably often not accurate because if they came out in your stool you wouldn't have parasites! A real DUH moment for me.

I have had issues with soft stool for a couple of months, finally remember turmeric, and took it on Sunday November 3rd, in the afternoon. Had a decent firm movement that evening...felt great, had the turmeric before work the next day, another firm movement that day, same thing for tuesday a.m. wonderful feeling. Today, Wednesday, Nov 6th, I tested it by not taking any turmeric this a.m. before work, and had a small movement, a couple little ones is all that came out.
Later in the afternoon, I had some softstools although it seemed to try to firm up as I finished.
I'm going to get back to taking the warm water with a teaspoon of turmeric tonite, probably every day now....
