I have been using the advice and testimonials from Earth Clinic for years and have used it many times. But, I haven't had ANYTHING work as well or as quickly as ACV for diarrhea!
I have suffered with a horrible stomach virus for 3 days and the diarrhea was getting worse. I tried Immodium which helped, but when it came back, it was with a vengeance.
In desperation I went to my old friend, Earth Clinic for advice. Once again, most yeas were for ACV! Just as others have said, within 15 minutes, the symptoms stopped! I used 2 Tablespoons ACV with the mother and 2 Tablespoons of organic honey mixed in water. It's a bit hard to swallow, but helps if you have a chaser of tea or other liquid.
Once again, yea Earth Clinic!

Worked for me too some while back. I took 1/2 teaspoon at 1/2 hour interval. Than prepared long grain rice leaving it a bit watery and adding a pinch of salt and pinch molasses. After any bout with diarrhea I always eat foods that are neutral that goes easy on the stomach, anything that has a bit of starch/carbs.
Iodine for Diarrhea -- Bulgarian Remedy

I can attest to this remedy, I was living in Fiji Islands as a child and remember my mom giving iodine in water for diahrrea which I used to get from drinking water from other peoples wells, funny but true. Same thing has happened to me in the US for the past 30 yrs (I travel a lot). My favorite remedy is cinnamon, cloves and honey remedy. Haven't tried iodine since I didn't know the ratio. Thanks for sharing. EarthClinic is becoming my fav site for home remedies. Appreciate lots.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Oil

I went to Morocco this summer and was not as careful as I should have been about avoiding contact with the water. By the end of the trip, I had a classic case of traveler's diarrhea (caused by the presence of E. Coli in the water). My stomach started to bother me and a few days after I left Morocco, I was experiencing excruciating cramping, had liquid bowel movements about 11-12 times per day, had a burning/queasy feeling in my stomach, had chills, could not eat, and was generally miserable. Every anti-diarrhea medication that I tried or was prescribed (I tried 5) had absolutely NO effect on me. It wasn't too long before my fiance's parents knew ALL about my bowel problems (to my embarassment), so my fiance's mom gave me apple baby food which seemed to help a little. I suffered for another 3 days, and on the final day I had to travel home for over 24 hours, including a 11-hour flight, and with my condition it seemed like it was going to be a disaster.
the trip I looked up remedies on EC and bought some ACV (couldn't buy the kind with the mother, because I was not in the US at the time). I took the ACV about 3 times that day and the cramping and nausea disappeared and the frequency of my bowel movements greatly decreased. When I got back to the US I was able to take some ACV with the mother, took some coconut oil in chai (which contains cinnamon), ate some applesauce with cinnamon, and in one day my problem was completely GONE, finally putting an end to my 10 days of suffering. Thank you EC!!!! And readers, PLEASE do not drink the water in developing countries ;)
N.B.: Coconut oil might have been effective in my case because my diarrhea was caused by a bacterial/parasitic infection, but coconut oil generally has a laxative effect on most people, so use with caution!

From the military I learned about charcoal for the runs. Hence if plagued by this nuisance, I put some bread in the toaster, burn it, apply butter & jam liberaly, eat & within 2 hours all symptoms are gone. Cheapest remedy ever.

I heard there was a bit of a stomach flu going around among some friends who were stuck home with diarrhea and pains. Eventually I got the telltale head congestion and mucus running going on, and felt some sharp abdominal pains and rumbling sounds, so I could tell I caught the stomach bug myself!
I acted pre-emptively before any diarrhea started, and had about 2 tbsp. Straight ACV washed down with some water. The stomach pains and sounds stopped within 20 minutes. I haven't had any diarrhea at all, and I've been drinking fluids here and there and eating light, natural foods. So far, so good!

Thanks for the information, I didn't know about the Turmeric or the flour either but right now I am drinking a drink made of white clay. You mix two tbspoons of white clay in 1l of water, let it set for 2 hours and then drink a few glasses a day of the water without mixing with the clay again or else you might get too much. It helps me..... Next time I will try Turmeric. It is interesting that flour works as well!

When my kids have diarrhea I mix 1/4-1/2 teaspoon turmeric with cocoa and sugar and make a drink with or without milk. They usually don't drink the whole thing because the turmeric flavor starts to set in... But it does the trick! As for myself and my husband, we mix it with hot water and it has helped us many times. I also tried the flour-water drink and that worked too. Thank you Earth Clinic!

I had diarrhea for 12 hours and Imodium didn't help. I thought I should go to the doctor, but it was 6:00 p. M. I decided to go online to see if I could find help there and was grateful to find this site. I sent a relative to a healthfood store for the ACV capsules. He bought a bottle of 500mg capsules. I took two and was cured! Thank you so much.

I've had a terrible bout of LD for the last 2 days -- going between every 20 min to 2 hours or so -- and just a bit ago found this site. After reading all of the comments, I figured I'd try at least one of these remedies where I had the ingredients immediately available. After eating the apple, it seems to have at least calmed my stomach, hopefully it stays that way. This is a great site. Thanks to all who've posted.

Tried the 4 tablespoons of vinegar to half cup of purified water; my stool has solidified since taking two cups of this ACV and took one again this morning. It burns a little going down but it's worth the results it offers. I was excited to see my stool texture improve and I'm going to keep doing it for a week to ensure remedy effectiveness. Thank you Earth Clinic:)!! I'm going to do this three times a day for a week.

After reading how well Turmeric works on diarrhea from this site, I decided to use it. I have food allergies to garlic, and have found that only turmeric will stop the diarrhea reaction that I have.
I have also used it when I've eaten something bad (one night both hubby and I had steak that wasn't quite right, developed diarrhea early the next morning, took Turmeric and within 30 mins both of us were able to continue on our day) I mix between 1/2 to 1 tsp with very hot water, and let the turmeric sink to the bottom. I then drink the orange coloured water that remains, and have yet to have had this remedy NOT work. It's definitely on my list of go to remedies for intestinal ailments!!
Earthclinic has become my go to source for when I'm not feeling well!! Thanks!

The stomach flu ran one by one through every person in our family and it lasted for days. Eventually the throwing up stopped but I still had a terrible case of diarrhea and my stomach was gurgling constantly and full of gas. Very painful--even my ribs ached. So on day number five of this, I took my apple cider vinegar (with the mother). I used 2 Tablespoons mixed with some water. At first I wondered if it was helping, then I realized yes! It's getting somewhat better. The diarrhea stopped and so did all the gurgling. I took a second dose of the ACV before bed and then next morning when I woke up, even the gas was gone. I finally have my life back! I'm very thankful to this website and my friend Jill who told me about it. Praise God!

Clay
Posted by Siafulinux (Savannah, Georgia, Usa) on 12/24/2010
Just wanted to give a quick update to using clay for diarrhea. I am still using it, but found a simple way of drinking clay in it's powdered form as apposed to using the pills. I mix a half a cup to a full cup of milk, a half a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses, two or three level teaspoons of sugar (just to sweeten) and 3 or 4 teaspoons of clay or more. I put all this into one of those metallic "water bottles" and shake! Normally clay sticks a lot and is hard to get mixed well; you end up with clumps that's not a lot of fun. Doing it the way above mixes it evenly and it's just like drinking a milk shake; a dark, cloudy, evil looking milk shake, but a milk shake none the less. The taste is pretty good too. Works well for me! :-)
Calcium

I started getting diarrhea during menopause. It would only be after lunch but it happened nearly everyday for a couple of years. I tried eliminating dairy, wheat, fructose, splenda and anything else I thought might be the problem but nothing changed. I tried every home remedy too. Finally I came across a book that said calcium stops chronic diarrhea. I had already been taking calcium but apparently if your calcium has a high dose of magnesium in it, it will only make the problem worse.
When I started taking pills with 600mg of calcium and only 50mg of magnesium it was an answer to my prayers. After the first full day of taking this I have not been bothered with this ailment since. I just make sure that I have one tablet with breakfast and one with lunch and that seems to be sufficient for my situation. I know you're not allowed to say brand names but to make it easy for people what I took was Caltrate 600-D Plus.

I am an avid reader of this website and have found several very beneficial remedies. I was suffering through upset stomach, liquid stool, till I read about Black Tea and Apple Cider vinegar. I drink ACV regularly with water. I tried it with Earl Grey tea. Diariah stopped and it has been several hours now. I was able to eat a sandwich and didn't need to run to bathroom after wards. Despite minor cramps, I haven't felt the urge or queasy feeling ever since I took Black Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar.

I have never experienced such a bad diarrhea until today.. I ate a double cheeseburger at McDon.. And I think I had food poisoning. I literally went to the bathroom every 30 min or so. I was searching online for cures for diarrhea and I found this website. After reading all the comments, to make sure no one experienced anything bad, I told my mom to go buy me Apple Cider Vinegar. I diluted 3 teaspoons of ACV into a cup of water and I drank it. After 10-20 min, my stomach hurt less and it's been 2 hours since I haven't had any bowel movements. Also, I think what helped was the fact that I ate rice and I drank peppermint tea with no sugar. But ACV definitely played the biggest part.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. A friend had diarrhea a few weeks ago and could not take off work. He tried to use immodium anti diarrhea med with no success. I remembered activated charcoal from this website and went with him to the hf store. The directions said to take w/ food so he did and the diarrhea was put in check w/ the first dose (2 caps). Thanks again earthclinic!
