Thank you for your tip on using apple cider vinegar for diarrhea. I had diarrhea for three days straight and found your website while I was searching for a home remedy. I went to a health food store and found ACV in pill form. After the first dose, I felt better but still had some loose stools. After one full day of taking the ACV, no more diarrhea! I feel so much better. I've never had a home remedy work so well before. What a relief!

i had the same thing, lasted for a couple years. i lost weight like crazy and my family finally forced me to go to the doctor. He wanted to put me on hormone therapy and anti-depressants!! The only thing I was depressed about was having diarrhea 24/7. !!! SOOO, I came home, got on the internet, and read every thing i could find about bowel problems. I discovered probiotics was one thing that helped me. Of course I asked God to help me in my search, and He did. Suggest you do the same. Believe me, I know what you are going through. Hope this helps.

Dear Michele, Sorry to read about your problem. I had a similar problem for many months. Doc's meds didn't work. I started taking one tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar in half cup water every moring before breakfast. It works like a bomb. Excellent remedy. Try it. you may need it before each meal. Start, and put your trust in God! It must work! Good luck!

This post is in response to the person who has suffered with bad diarrhea and cramps for 20 years. I saw a program about mystery illnesses on TLC and the woman suffered from bad cramps and diarrhea since she began puberty. Her body was missing a protein and when she began puberty, her hormones triggered edema in various parts of her body. The inflammation in her body caused severe cramps and diarrhea for years. I hope I gave you enough to perhaps google it or find the show..Your case sounds eerily similar. She received some type of simple treatment that has held the illness at bay. It is also hereditary.

WEll- I think the first response about Crohn's disease sounds right- know people that have it and basically they can't eat anything with fat or oil in it... various things with this disease you can't digest, so it goes straight through. Also- I had a boyfriend once who had this problem and turns out his was b/c of food allergies and also lactose intolerance. Try playing with your diet to see if anything specifically triggers it... also- you should try to up your potassium intake. Good luck!

This is the home remedy my mother always used for diarrhea: Boil one ounce of rice to one quart of water for twenty minutes, then strain and drink.

My 2 year old son and I had a bad case of stomach cramps which turned into 3 days of watery diarrhea every 30 min or so or everytime we ate or drank anything. I checked this site for remedies and tried Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) (I already had in my cabinet) mixed with water.
I mixed 2 tsp ACV in about 20 oz. of water. I smelled it in the glass and knew it would be hard to get my 2 year old to drink this!! I poured half into a glass for me to drink. I poured the other half into a sippy cup, opened up one of those take-along flavored pouches you shake into bottled water (hard to describe & not use a brand name)and used about half the pouch to flavor his ACVwater in the sippy cup. I did this a few times, maybe every 2 hours, each time using less flavor to make sure he was getting the ACV. It's been about 4 hours and neither of us has gone to the bathroom. It may be early but I'm gona call it and say this remedy actually worked.

I have had reoccurring diarrhea for 3 weeks. I tried the cinnamon stick w/water and it really helped. I used 1 stick and 1 1/2 c water, added a little honey for sweetener and within 30 min my problem was better. The cramps got worse with the first few drinks but when the cup was gone so were the cramps. It has been hours and no diarrhea. I am so happy I found this site. Thanks for the post
Activated Charcoal

My husband and I are currently in school so our diet is not always the best because we are always studying. Because of this on the occasion food does not agree with us and of course the diarrhea happens, or even just a really upset stomach with maybe quite softer poo later. Anyways, I looked this up on the website and actually other websites as well. I found the activated charcoal in the stomach section of a pharmacy store. It really works. My husband had a particularly bad case so I made him take I think two capsules. He was reluctant, but after he took it he stopped having diarrhea and at the time he was vomitting as well. This stopped it all. It wasn't a miracle feel better, but the erradication stopped instantly. Because he was having an aweful time it took him till the next day to feel better. After that moment when either one of us has a thought of upset stomach we go straight to the activated charcoal. I usually just take one capsule and am done with it. Like I said it doesn't make you feel purfect, but it stops the problems out right. Not only did I use it for this, but because of its absorbtion properties I put it on a bug bite as a paste with water applied it to a bandaid and it stopped itching rather quickly. I think I made that to runny, but it worked well despite my mixing abilities.
Cream of Wheat Cereal, Cinnamon

Searching Earth Clinic for something to halt my diarrhea this guy said his mom recommended Cream of Wheat. It would absorb the extra moisture. Then I read about cinnamon as a cure and read about various ways to use it. I decided to combine the two remedies and I make a serving of cream of wheat and I covered it in cinnamon; I probably used 2-3 tsp. I love cream of wheat, so it was painless to scoff this down. It has been 25 minutes. Before I took the remedy I was in the bathroom every 15 minutes or so and my stomach was rumbling so loudly; I never heard it sound so awful!! Now, 25 minutes later there is an occasional low sounding rumble and so far I have not run to the bathroom...no urgency!!
This remedy makes sense; absorbing the excess water causing the diarrhea, and the cinnamon has amazing healing qualities. It was used in the "old days" as a diarrhea/upset stomach remedy, an anti viral/fungal and it helps to treat UTI. I can not contest to these as I have not proven the results. But as for the UTI, that is how I got the diarrhea in the first place. My doctor put on one antibiotic that I was allergic to and then changed the medicine. My stomach was all out of wack and UTI is not gone~! I will keep taking the cinnamon and report that back later. My stomach is calmed down, I do not have cramping and rumbling. No bathroom trips in more than an hour. I am going to bed to get some sleep. And bravo to earth clinic for being there ONCE AGAIN in a middle of the night emergency. I love this website; advice you can rely on (take what you want and leave the rest). Sweet Dreams...Elaine in Chicago.

Apple Cider Vinegar, stomach issues: I was feeling horrible, my sinuses were so bad i could not breath, and to top it off i had horrible stomach problems, not diarrhea, but very close to it. anything i would eat would cause me to go to the restroom. I have tried ACV before, and i am a believer in it, but i was amazed that despite taking pepto bismol and immodiam ad, ACV finally gave me relief. after being stuck at home for 2 days i was able to go out to watch a basketball game, go out to a nice dinner (couldnt eat much but at least i was not running to the restroom). I am going back onto a ACV regimen, trying it out again has made me a believer again.

Just to let you know this is a GREAT site. I have recommended it to lots of people who are having ailments which I believe can be helped by natural remedies.
I work in a long term care facility and am exposed to a lot of germs. I drink a Tablespoon of ACV & Honey in water daily and believe this keeps my immune system up. While a horrid stomach & diarrea bug had the place quarantined, (Knock on wood) I escaped this bug which I give credit to the ACV/Honey.
My co-workers tease me about my attention to "natural" eating, etc, but I try to avoid processed foods, drink lots lots of water. Thanks so much for this site.

I tried the cinnamon sugar toast recipe after having had diarrhea for five days. I made two slices before bed on the fifth night and went to bed. The next morning I didn't feel gas in my abdomen anymore. Then I put approximately one teaspoon of cinnamon in my oatmeal. By that night I was feeling 100% better.
C. Diff Diagnosis
Posted by C.S.M (Vero Beach, FL) on 03/08/2009
Another thing--
C diff colonizes in the bowel and should not be treated unless she is having symptoms (abdominal symptoms, fever or diarrhea).
C. diff is a bacteria--it couldn't hurt to use turmeric per the advice here on Earth Clinic.
According to The Peoples Pharmacy --
"Shredded Coconut and coconut macaroons can be lifesaving for relief of diarrhea from several conditions. The response can be immediate or can take several weeks"
From the same source--consider adding pineapple for inflammatory properties.
In my experience, C diff can cause lactose intolerance at least for a while after the infection. Try a lactose free diet.
Earth Clinic-- Would you please add my response to any diarrhea treatment forums you have? C diff should be suspected in any case of diarrhea now (because of the use of antibiotics in man and animals) and, according to MSNBC, a superstrain of C diff may be in 40% of grocery store meats.
Thank you. And thanks for offering this wonderful resource for people! CSM

Question: I have read several of the suggested remedies for diarrhea, which is 1 teaspoon of turmeric spice powder in a hot cup of water once a day. Some of the people noticed a difference within two to three days. My question is along with the turmeric tea once a day, I noticed that no one has mentioned what type of diet they followed? Could Ted or some of the people that have used this method answer as to what they ate? Do you drink the turmeric tea on the first day and follow a liquid diet for one to three days or what did everyone do or eat? I have a friend that has had diarrhea for two weeks and none of the over the counter products have worked. Could someone please answer?
I stumbled onto this site today and I think that it is wonderful that so many people have been helped. I am hoping to be able to help my friend. Thank you, Yvonne from Brownsville, TX.

OK, so call me skeptical. I have been having diarrhea for over 6 days and a sharp pain behind my belly button for a while. I was becoming raw and felt sick every time I needed to go (which was often). I sipped a hot cup of black chai tea mixed with 2 tablespoons of regular ACV (not organic, just generic) and to my surprise everything went away. No joke! The sharp pain behind my belly button and the diarrhea stopped. It has been two days and its never returned! I was seriously considering going to the ER and Pepto was doing nothing for me. I never even took another dose of the ACV, just the one. Worked great!

I had sinus surgery and had to take a new mega antibiotic that gave me AAD. Associated Antibiotic Diarrhea. After 3 days of sitting on the toilet I was desperate and found your website at 10:15 at night. Within 36 hours of dosing, 2 TBL ACV in water (5 times total) I was completely done with that problem. I am AMAZED and a total convert. I will now be adding it to my daily regimen for my tummy problems. THANK YOU.

Diarrhea with Turmeric Powder: I had just gotten back from a 2 week trip in New Mexico and without thinking, I immediately ate two greasy Tex-Mex meals back to back. Needless to say, I had diarrhea that followed me for almost a week. I might have carried a bug back with me from MEX, I'm not sure of the source. I tried 1 tsp of Turmeric powder with a glass of water one night, and the following day I was already improving. Just for safe measures I went ahead and took another tsp the next day, and it was completely gone the following day, after only taking 2 doses!

Terrible diarreha as of late. Doctor thinks it is a form of colitis. It got so bad I couldn't leave the house. Took Apple cider vinegar 2 teaspoons in water 2x a day. Then Tumeric 1 teaspoon in water. 2x a day. pow! It stopped. Then went on to make sure. Kefir fortified with 10 billion acidophilis 2x a day. No more rumbling and colon sensitivity has subsided. Then went on to a pinch of allspice in warm water before bedtime. I went after this think with both barrels. Have not been bothered since. I think that it was a yeast infection in the intestines. They can not screen for a yeast infection unless it has gotten into the blood stream. At which time you are in serious trouble.
Manifested:
ringing in ears
diarreha
sensitivity in colon
outbreaks of eczema
skin rashed that came and went.
Itching in the ears. A nagging cough.
Cough is still there, it has only been 2 days now, but it is subsiding. Oh yes, outbreaks of atheletes foot, from time to time.
