Zinc

When I was young and otherwise healthy I would get 2 or 3 terrible colds (flu) per yr. Fast forward with aging and a severe and chronic toxic condition, I might get 1 cold per yr and then only briefly. I take nutritional supplements by the handfuls but one that seems the absolute essential immune support is Zinc. Zinc is one mineral that is terribly lacking in the western diet AND seems to be the cornerstone of the immune system, so it is almost necessary to supplement in every person to prevent such as the flu. A healthy Thymus is also critical. Some researchers believe that the power of Zinc is the strengthening of the Thymus.

Neem

I cannot offer enough praise for Neem. I used the salve several years ago for cellulitis on my arm. It was suggested to me by an owner of the health food shop I frequented. It was a mildly scented green salve. I decided to try it, as well as the capsules of Neem Leaves for internal use. In a few days, the salve, alone, worked to remove this weird bumpy rash that had been present for more than a month. I didn't even need the capsules. But luckily, I had them on hand last year when my neighbor came down with an awful upper respiratory virus. She hates antibiotics, but she had a fever and heavy lung congestion. I told her to try my Neem capsules, as my more recent research discovered Neem was anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-microbial. Like using goldenseal and echinacea rolled into one. She took 2 capsules 3 times per day. I was so surprised when she called me the next day and told me she felt 75% better just over night! Her congestion was almost gone overnight without a single side effect! So, fast forward to Christmas of 2012. The family was coughing and ill on Christmas. I started coming down with the flu. I was sneezing relentlessly, starting to get that itchy throat and coughing. I was determined not to be miserable. I took 2 Neem leaf capsules starting Christmas night before I went to bed. Symptoms were completely gone when I awoke. By noon, I was starting to get that scratchy throat again, so I decided to keep up with the Neem. I continued to take it 3 times a day for 3 days and I am happy to say that I never fully developed influenza. I think it could be a lifesaver for those who suffer from this nasty flu. Look it up. It's incredible and available from very prominent herb and vitamin companies

Just eat fresh fruit especially the citrus ones. Worked like a charm for me. Also ginger is good for nausea. Try some all natural ginger ale. Finally a secret to getting over the flu super fast is taking h2o2 with water and a little juice. U need to research it but basically it kills all the bad stuff. My fiance got the same flu as me and was bedridden 5 days. I did the h2o2 treatments and was out of bed after one day.

Turmeric and Bromelain

I have found turmeric and bromelain gel caps. We've used them for the stomach discomfort during flu symptoms. I've taken one in morning and one in the evening for a few days. For my children, I open the capsule and put about half of the powder in a cup of rice milk or regular milk and warm it on the stove top. Add a little sweetener if needed. This remedy has helped the sick stomach with the flu when peppermint or chamomile tea just made it worse for me.

Onion Elixir
Posted by Iain Pickering (Glasgow, Scotland) on 03/20/2012

My nana always made up this dreaded mixture but to be honest it really does work. The remedy is simple yet effective. You need 4 items; 1 large glass jar with lid ( I use a thoroughly cleaned Yankee Candle jar )
2 large onions
Sugar
1. Roughly chop up the onion and place inside of your glass jar. 2. Pour in enough sugar to cover the onions. 3. Close jar and leave untill a clear liquid is formed at the bottom of the jar. 4. Pinch your nose and enjoy. Continue this for 1-2 days. Please note. You cannot overdose no matter how much you take.

Tomato Tea Remedy

I can't believe how well this works. I'm still in shock!

2 days ago, I started to become sick with the flu when I was on a 18-hour flight. On came the chills and fever, and then my nose kept running non-stop. To make it worse, the changing cabin pressure on the descent gave me excruciating sinus pain and made my ears clogged to the point where I couldn't hear out of both ears anymore. I can't take cold medicine because I have thyroid disease, and I am slow to recover because my metabolism is very slow.

Yesterday my sinuses and fever got worse. I remembered reading about this remedy on Earth Clinic and I was eager to try it. Luckily I had all the ingredients on hand. I used V8 Spicy Hot juice, lemon juice (bottled), minced garlic, a lot of tabasco sauce (as much as I could stand) and a dash of celery salt for taste. I heated it in the microwave for about 1 1/2 minutes and then sipped and inhaled the fumes as directed. About 10 minutes after I started to sip it I noticed an increase of nasal discharge. I had to keep blowing my nose over and over again, but this time when I blew my nose I actually felt like I was clearing it out, instead of the feeling of blowing your nose and feeling like it gets clogged up again 5 minutes later. The pressure in my ears released about 60% and I regained most of my hearing. My fever increased and for a few hours I felt pretty rotten, even though my nasal passages had cleared. But in a few hours I felt at least 60% better, which is amazing considering that it usually takes me 3 weeks to recover from a cold! I slept all through the night with no problem.

This morning I made another tomato tea. While drinking it, I felt my left ear "pop" and the pressure released. I now have full hearing in my left ear and a 70% improvement in my right ear. I then took a hot shower afterwards (the steam helps to open the sinus passages) and kept blowing my nose. My nasal congestion is about 85% gone, I don't have a fever or chills anymore, I got most of my hearing back and I don't feel groggy anymore!

It doesn't seem so crazy why this works when you do some research on capsaicin. Capsaicin is also the active ingredient of pepper spray. Capsaicin is an irritant, and when you inhale pepper spray, your body pushes it out by forcing your sinuses to clear themselves and making your nose run uncontrollably. Have you ever eaten a really spicy dish and had your nose start to run? That's the capsaicin at work.

I have Vietnamese friends who swear by a similar remedy that works in the same way as the tomato tea. They swear by eating pho (a hot fish/noodle soup) when you are sick. They put a lot of Sriracha (Vietnamese hot pepper sauce) in the soup and breathe in the hot fumes. The steam and pepper helps open and clear the sinuses.

I have also been drinking echinacea tea with a tbs of coconut oil and I've also been drinking some ACV throughout the day. (I don't take the ACV too close to the tomato tea though, because ACV is alkaline while the tomato tea is very acidic).

Thank you, thank you, thank you Earth Clinic for this wonderful remedy! I can celebrate my 30th birthday this weekend without feeling miserable :)

Magnesium Foot Bath

A little tip that helped me two weeks ago when I was feeling very ill with the flu. My legs were hurting big time so after dinner I made a hot footbath with nigari (the only kind of magnesium chloride we can get). Amazing, while before it felt like someone was cutting my legs off and my head was also feeling weird right afterwards I had no more discomfort. Worth trying..... I knew that a hot footbath can cure a headache because it pulls the blood away from the head and in this case it relieved me big time!

Glucosamine Chondroitin Sulphate

Here's something I have found that has NEVER failed me yet! When I feel something coming on (cold, flu etc) I take 4 capsules of Glucosamine Chondroitin Sulphate (900mg/capsule) EVERY 15 MINUTES (4 capsules each dose) for the first HOUR, then 4 capsules EVERY 30 MINUTES for the next FOUR hours, then 4 capsules/hr until bedtime. I use the ___ brand, but my son used another brand and it worked really well. The next day I am 80% better, and so was he. He was so impressed he now keeps it in his cupboard. I also used it when I had an infected tooth and the dentist said I would need a root canal (take the nerve out and you kill that tooth! ); I took this formula as stated above, and I never had that root canal and I am FINE!! I take one capsule morning and night on a regular basis, and at age 58, am almost as flexible as I was when I was 30! Comes in REAL handy as I play on two tennis teams! -- Granny

Flu Shots
Posted by Mollie (Riverside, California, Usa) on 01/08/2012

I have a friend (female) in her 80's. We were discussing my fear of flu shots and she told me that she and her husband who has had a triple-by-pass have been taking flu shots regularly for about 20 years and have not suffered from the flu in 20 years!

She lives in southern California U.S.A. This lady told me that not getting the flu is a must for her husband due to his triple-by-pass surgeries.

My husband and I have been terribly ill with the flu since November and are now just getting over it.

This makes me wonder if flu shots might help some people? This coming October my husband and I are going to get flu shots to see if it helps.

By the way we are seniors.

Vitamin D

I have found something to replace flu shots. I haven't had so much as a sniffle since I upped my vitamin D. Flu shots are approx 50% mercury and there is aluminum in there too. Not to mention the shot only covers a couple of specific strains and often the flu that comes around is a noncovered strain. They are a waste if you ask me. I take 5000 units a day. I started with a 1000 and worked my way up. My doctor tests my levels with a blood test just to make sure I need it.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Garlic

Realise I had a long lingering virus in my system. I pressed and munched several cloves of raw garlic and ate this with a little wholemeal bread and butter, hit the aspirin and VIT C and I am pretty sure that has done the trick! I also had the beginnings of a gastro attack and a strong drink of ACV and water stopped that in its tracks last Sunday. Reading ads for NZ Manuka honey I see that they are pushing the fact that it induces the body to produce more H2O2."

Ted's Remedies
Posted by Ted (USA)

I have received many reports of a fairly aggressive virus, which has similar symptoms, that if long term will result in pneumonia. This particular virus, reported all over the globe, is flu like, causes high fever, very weak, and it is chronic. If given its own course might extend well over a week or more. It's easy to tell for this virus as it is aggressive means once infected, is swift within a day leading to a very high fever over 102-103 F.

At least for this form of virus, it has some similar characteristics a fast form of virus invasion, similar in its speed in infection as in bird flu virus, or perhaps it's variant.

After long trials the single most important remedy is 1500 mg of Lysine taken every 3 hours. Even the first dose of 1500 mg of lysine there will be a marked drop of 90% of the symptoms within a couple of hours to a maximum of 6 hours. As for my own experience here in Bangkok I can see a marked reduction in about 2 hours.

The supporting remedies for the lysine are, 50-250 mg of aspirin, strong black coffee, and especially hydrogen peroxide 3% 10-20 (preferably 10 drops) drops per glass of water. In case of a dire emergency for me, if I cannot get a food grade hydrogen peroxide, I might get an ordinary brand hydrogen peroxide for temporarly use only to kill off the virus, just to kill it off. the effect of hydrogen peroxide may wear off within about 2 hours, so the frequency of dose is more important to prevent virus from overtaking the body. A strong black coffee raises the metabolism necessary by increasing the energy to ward of this particular virus. The aspirin, which is acetylsalicylic acid dissolves the virus coating which protects or gave them stealth where the white blood cells cannot detect them. So if aspirin were taken, the white blood cells were able to detect and engulf them, or at least the aspirin alone in the bloodstream dissolves the virus coating that protects them killing them.

In any event this high fever virus is worrying, but unreported in the media and I found it to occur, for any new strain of viruses at a tourist hub, as people from all over the world come into this one place to spread it throughout the world. As a result the best place to look and find a remedy for any new strain of virus I see usually comes from tourist places, hotel, pubs, where people from many nationality come see each other and go back to their home country to pass on the newer virus in their hometowns. This peculiar strain of virus first appeared about October or November 2008 and now seems to be widespread.

A baking soda 1/2 teaspoon in a glass of water ever 3-4 hours reduces the pain by neutralizing the lactic acid that is found whenever the virus infects the system, so any acid causes pain and the baking soda neutralize the acidity. If a person lack zinc, then he might take one, but currently zinc is in vogue in killing off the virus, thus reducing their effectiveness to a certain extent, but at least two major remedies the lysine and the hydrogen peroxide were most effectively ward off with this particular strain.

Next year, or the end of this year - who knows? I have to find another new remedy for that one! In the past for each year certain supplements were effective depending on the kinds of viruses such as BHT, zinc, potassium, aspirin, clove oil, etc. I have to make changes from year to year as much as what authorities do to determine the "next year's vaccines". The differences of course is the ones I used don't have the assoicated risk of heavy metal poisoning from mercury and other strains that may have "accidentally" introduced such as the Simian viruses found in certain vaccines.

Multiple Remedies

Hi there,
I wanted to thank everyone on this site for some great remedies. I am 5 and half months pregnant and I suffered with a very long and vigorous sinus and chest flu. My symptoms were a mild high temperature (37.5 -38) not high fever but enough to make me feel horrible. Coughing, sinus pressure with no ability to breathe through my nose. The symptoms lasted for 5 days until I decided to take serious action. For 3 days after 5 days of suffering I did the following steps 2 to 3 times a day until my symptoms disappeared!

Step 1:
Boil 3 cups water
Peel 3 large cloves of garlic and cut in half and add to water. Take water off heat and add half cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add half cup of honey. Let mixture sit for 20 mins and then strain and drink.

Step 2:
Nasal irrigation
Buy a neti pot or Neil Med saline nasal rinse. Make sure not to make your own salt water solution it's not as balanced at the one you buy specifically for nasal irrigation. This helps soooo much but after 3 days of constant use.

Step 3:
Apple cider vinegar steam
Get _____s original apple cider vinegar
Take one cup of vinegar and one cup of water
Bring to a boil and breath the steam with a towel over the pot. Make sure the mixture is not boiling while you breath the steam. This may burn while you breath through your nose, make sure to keep your mouth and eyes closed. Breath the steam for 5 min intervals. If it burns a lot them lift head up higher. This works the best!!!!! It just takes a few days of patience!

Step 4:
Take extra vitamin c. Preferably the powder that you can drink. Do not exceed more than 2000mg. Do these steps every day for 3 days and I promise you will feel soo much better if not totally healed. Cheers,
Kasia

Echinacea

This is to address generalized immune issues: colds, viral and bacterial infections. I won't go into our long and drawn out medical history but, believe me, when your doctor says to you that there are only two remaining antibiotics left to try - something goes "boom" in your brain! I took extreme issue with our doctor as to medication over prevention practices and, to his credit, he took a big risk and did, finally, step up to the plate. he told us that we were not to tell anyone where we got the information he was about to pass on to us and, to this date, I have not (and I will continue to never divulge his name) but I tell everyone I can about echinacea. we took a. vogel echinacea tincture and have never - N. E. V. E. R. - been sick since. we took the maximum dose everyday until we stopped getting sick - around a year then we took the maintanence dose for about two years afterward. when we realized that we were not getting sick at all anymore we slowly stopped.

I also agree with eating foods that keep the body in an alkalized state. that's all I have to say on the subject except maybe that everybody's system reacts differently to mainstream as well as alternative therapies and some therapies may not have been stuck with long enough to show results.

Cinnamon, Ginger, Cardamon

I found this home remedy in Vasant Lad's "The Complete Book of Ayurveda Home Remedies". My whole family, including my 4 year old grand-daughter, have benefitted tremendously from this. It has become a "must have" product in everyone's kitchen.

Mix together:

3 parts cinnamon
2 parts powdered dry ginger
and a touch of cardamom powder.

In 1/2 glass warm water, put 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of this mixture and 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon honey.

Provides immediate relief from cold, flu, cough, congestion.
