Pinworm Connection
Posted by Geraldene (Adelaide ) on 10/17/2017

Sometimes people overlook that the itching can be caused by pin worms. It's not only children who suffer from pinworms.

A simple one off tablet at night can illuminate the itching.

My friends have put up with anal itching and all sorts of medications from the Doc for years..they all denied it could not possibly be pin worms..

Well after trying the medication for pinworms. They are itch free!

Their answer was..."why didn't my Doctor tell me this? And I hàve put up with this for years and it has cost me a fortune in medications for other diagnosis.

Liquid MSM with Vitamin C

Liquid MSM with Vitamin C

I bought this formulation for my eyes. It is a liquid combo which can be used as eye drops. Well, it sure came in handy elsewhere on the body as well in my case. Due to repeated use of moist wipes after using toilet paper, I created a damp condition which worsened into what can best be likened to diaper rash. It was very painful, itchy and irritating. I tried ACV & paramicrocidin and got some relief. I tried olive oil and got some relief. I tried straight DMSO and got some relief [after some increased pain such as occurs when applying DMSO to the site of a burn.] However, the best, most long lasting relief I experienced was with the MSM & Vitamin C formula. I wonder how many crying babies wish they could ask for this? I'll tell you, it hurt enough that it made me want to cry like a baby, too ~ very annoying.

Probiotics

Probiotics can also help with itchy bum. I find it works very well for the duration that I am taking it. Different strains may work better - I use multi-strain probiotics, usually about 8 or more strains.

Should help if you have an underlying gut flora imbalance that is causing the itch, as seems to be frequent with people who have other inflammatory issues (asthma, dermatitis, eczema, allergies, etc).

Probiotics won't help, however, if your root cause is worms/parasites.

Onion, Garlic and ACV Enema

I found a great remedy for anal itch, mine is caused from a mold virus.

I cut up half an onion a few fresh garlic - I use lots of garlic, I then soak these two in apple cider vinegar over night, the next day take an enema with this solution and you will see great results. Do this as often as you feel the need to do so. Because I have a mold virus I saw an awful lot of puss or inflammation coming out onto the floor. What a big surprise but also a huge relief. The sad part is not one doctor can or could treat me. I ended up handicap because of the lack of. But the best results is I feel a whole lot better. God Bless.

Posted by Larry (Shingletown, Ca Usa) on 08/26/2015

I wet a cotton ball with ACV and stick it at the anal opening. It will sting a bit at first. Leave it there for a minute or so. Relief is almost instant. If it has a blood stain on it, when you remove it you probably have a hemorrhoid. You will have to repeat as necessary. But works rather fast for me.

Or you could get some Extra virgin Coconut oil and give the area a good paste after washing. If left untreated the anal itch can last for years. I don't see why you couldn't try a good antifungal cream, like the one used for athlete's foot.

There is a definite correlation between anal itching and anemia. I had it for several months and tried various topical solutions which only temporarily relieved it, but had bloodwork for annual exam and was low on iron, although not deficient. Once I started taking iron supplements and including more iron-rich foods in my diet the itching was gone and has not returned. Coffee and alcohol are irritants and also deplete you of iron.

I experienced this itching/irritation from excess acidity too; and I found that switching my coffee to a less acidic version (a milder or medium roast, and/or breakfast blend) helps greatly reduce/resolve this problem without having to give up my morning coffee entirely. I do love the strong dark coffees, so to quell my cravings, a few rimes a week I opt for creole coffee mixed with chickory, also known as Cafe Du Monde; or I add a cinnamon stick or (unsweetened) cocoa and/or carob power for that extra boost!

Eliminate Coffee
Posted by Stevesall (Renton, WA) on 08/15/2024

In most cases it's not the acid in the coffee causing the itching. It's been discovered that it's the caffeine causing the itching. So switching to a low acid coffee may not help. Switching to decaffeinated coffee might stop the itching but then it may cause withdrawal symptoms.

You could try cold pressed coffee - it's much lower in acidity (pH around 6.5, I think). Then you can still have the strong flavor without the acidity!

I have used ointment for this after showering. Just an amount the size of the end of your finger is all it takes. After drying real good with a towel I dry completly with a hair dryer then I apply a small amount of Ointment to the hemmoroid and anus area. Thats it. It's a very old remedy. I live in Michigan and can only find it at one Walgreen's store in town. Active ingredients: Camphor, 3.0%, anti itching. Phenol, 2.5%, anesthetic. Tannic acid, 6.6% astringent. Other ingredients: Petrolatum, Bees Wax, Lavender Oil The trademark is PBO and it's in a yellow container. could be in a tube or a small plastic jar of 3oz. My mother and Uncle used this preparation for years with success. Thats why I use it too.

Itchy but it's a sign of parasites in your organism, check that out! I remember reading an article about using natural remedies to deparasite the body wich said that we should use one remedy at a time for no longer than one week or ten days because the parasites develop resistence to it, always have them on an empty stomach, especially in the morning. There was a list of over a dozen of natural remedies, I remember only a few like bee products, garlic or pumpkin seeds, not salted or roasted, I think you can find more info. on this site or google if you are interested.

Alkalize
Posted by David (California) on 11/02/2014

It's very common and natural and called Pruritus Ani. Too many people suggest it's because you need to clean more but they are wrong and actually that makes it worse if you clean too much. It's the constant rubbing with toilet paper that removes the body's natural oils and irritates the sensitive skin. The best solution is to clean with water and little or no soap (as soap can dry the skin out also) and stop the wiping with toilet paper. Water is cleaner anyways and healthier too. The most convenient and efficient way to clean with water is not to take a shower every time or jumping up on the sink but with a Hand Bidet Sprayer. They locate right at the toilet and require no new plumbing. The itch will go away and not come back.

I have the type of itchy butt that's kept me up at night scratching, which of course, made it even worse. Well, I'm also pregnant so it wasn't letting me get the sleep I need. Well after hours of searching the net, I found this site out of desperation. I just tried hydrogen peroxide soaked into a cotton ball and applied quite a bit. Surprisingly it didn't burn at all, and to my surprise is working SLIGHtly. I am more comfortable than I was a few minutes ago, though the nagging itch is still there. However, I think I can finally fall asleep now.

I have a similar itch, a nagging problem, I have been dealing with for years. I had been washing with anti-bacterial hand soap with relatively good, but inconvenient, results. I picked up an old bottle of Watkins "Pain Relieving Liniment". It's mostly alcohol & watel, I think. But it's fine ingredients are Comphor, Capsicum, & Spruce oil. It presented me with a very warm glow down under for an hour. 4 hours later I'm cool as a cucumber, and a happy maggot, me.

I suffer with anal itching usually around my menstral cycle. When I gave birth to my daughter years ago, the hospital gave me a personal hygiene bottle. You fill the bottle with water and wash your rear with it. Ever since then I use it every time I go to the bathroom. I have ordered several bottles off of hospital supply websites and keep at least one bottle in every bathroom. I even take them with me when I travel. You can't beat them for cleansing. You don't have to further irritate the area by wiping to get clean. For severe cases I put castor oil on a cotton ball and keep it on the area for a while and it brings me relief.

If you take too much acidolphilus or any probiotic supplement you will definitely get an itchy butt--I guarantee it! That is one easy way to tell if you are overdosing. You will think you have pinworms as it feels like just like something is moving or crawling at the anal opening.

Ahhha..so I think that must be true about too much probiotics causing an itchy butt. I have never had this problem, despite having IBS, irritation...yes...but itching like crazy like this..never!! It's so annoying. I haven't taken any probiotics today to see if it will help. I just recently started them and then upped the amount. I will definitely cut back. As far as trying to get rid of the itch...some improvement with the tea tree oil on a cotton ball. Kept it on there for about 5 mins. Felt cooling and soothing, minor sting, not bad at all, but only lessened the itch. So I put some zinc oxide ointment which kept it under control most of the day, but now it's itching again. I just put some VCO to see how that helps. No change yet. But hoping it will stop eventually with reducing the probiotics!!

Went to the doctor and did a full treatment for worms(6 X meza*&&^ can`t remember the medicine name)anyway it didnt work. Went back and collected a sample for scan and the result didnt show any kind of parasites. So I found this BRILIANT article about the Apple CIder Vinegar which made me scream in the toilet :) but it felt good!! Oh yahhh. I have to say that sorted me out, but what`s happening now its that becomes itchy after using the toilet( after a shit).. Where I have to use the ACV again! Im wondering that could be my diet as I am very much into weight training(carb cycling at the moment). Could it be too much protein? considering that I eat every 3-4 hours.. 7 meals /day. Also did reduce the amount of whey protein that I was taking since last year( isolated whey chocolate flavour-again could it be from cocoa powder.. ??!! ) Appreciate any suggestions! :) Thank you Christine!! Also, I know what is causing my itchy butt. My doc put me on high dose probiotics to naturally get rid of a stomach pnemonia virus and then I started a 3-week cleanse that had probiotics in it. No wonder when I got off the cleanse I had itchy butt.

I am just getting over a stomach flu and was dosing up on my probiotics.... No wonder I've got such an itchy butt tonight. :-(. Ok, I'm off the probiotics until I'm not itchy anymore.

itchy butt: I found your site while searching for alternative treatment for hbp. In only 3 days my results have been nothing short of miraculous. Thank you earth clinic and to all of the people who contribute to your website. I'd also like to contribute a remedy of my own to the itchy butt ailment category. My line of work requires that I am exposed to extreme heat both from the sun and 400 degree asphalt which irritates or chaps my and my co-workers butt regularly. The best and quickest cure for this is rubbing alcohol! Yes, it burns like heck for about 15 seconds, but as soon as the burning stops, healed! A fan blowing directly to the area helps alot. I've tried getting my girlfriend to blow until it stops burning, but she just laughs too hard to make any wind.

Rubbing Alcohol
Posted by Alma (Sparta, Ga) on 06/21/2009

The request by the boyfriend to have someone "blow on his butt" is not something you should do. If he has a pinworm infestation, the eggs are deposited by the females during the night on the exterior of the buttocks and will become airborne resulting in the person doing the "blowing" becoming infected. To see the pinworm go to Google and type into the search block "pinworm image" without the quotation marks.

Witch Hazel, Diaper Rash Cream
Posted by Heretohelp8 (London, Ontario, Canada) on 08/05/2012

I have had a problem with my anus being itchy for about two weeks now. I'm not completely sure as to the cause of this horrid and embarrassing problem but it does seem to occur when I have a loose, watery bowel movement. My mom believes it is due to the acidity in my diet, which burns the sensitive skin around the anus and causes irritation, but I can't be sure. I will work to actually curing my problem in the future, but for now, all I crave is a remedy. In the beginning my mother suggested icing the area. I agreed and felt relief soon enough. I lie on my back and wedge a half inch thick hard ice pack between my cheeks and it seems to do the trick within ten minutes. I make sure to keep a piece of clothing between ice and skin, and make sure not to ice for to long or you will get frostbitten. But who carries around a frozen icepack with them? So I needed something portable. And on top of that I am still horribly itchy for those ten minutes.

So I read online in multiple places about witch hazel, and asked my mom to pick me up some. She did and I began using it. It didn't work at first, but I don't believe I applied it properly. I just used it again, accompanied with an ice pack and it seemed to do the trick within five. When I applied it this time I soaked a thick piece of toilet paper in it, sat on the toilet and held it to the area. It did sting a tad in the beginning but it gets better. I still have doubts about witch hazel used on its own or as a cure, but it would certainly work in a pinch or coupled with ice. Hope this helped!

I have been suffering since last January. All of a sudden, if I drink coffee I have diarrhea and really harsh burning and itching of the butt. (I have been drinking coffee since I was a child). I stopped coffee and started drinking tea. That was OK for a few months now I can't have more than 2 cups of tea or it starts hurting. Now, tomato sauce, veggie burgers, a glass of wine - anything with high fiber! I went to a gastrointerologist who suggested I get a colonoscopy. Afterwards he said there was nothing wrong except that I had some diverticulitis in my upper left colon. I stopped all the foods that irritate me. Last night I had a veggie burder (I haven't had one in about six months so I thought I'd give it a try). My butt itched all morning and when I went into the bathroom, my butt had "leaked" and there was a mess in my pants. I need to tell you that I am in very good physical condition. He couldn't believe that I knew what he needed when he explained the problem well enough and I put him on a good probiotic. He found after that, just wiping w/tissue fixed the problem instead of his having to leave a wet washcloth in the floor for me to wash every day. But, he'd always had to wash well w/water to keep from itching terribly. Sure smoothed out a rough spot in our marriage! Lol

I used it for like a couple days and the itch never returned again I mean rarely like its been two years now. The doc gave me like four refills on this stuff but I barely used a few days of it, it comes in a 1lb jar 453. 6 grams all I know is the itch has never came back if it does just put a little cream on it and its gone instantly. anyways the cream was "Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP, 0. 1%" This stuff worked I think the stuff only costs me like 4 dollars at most so its cheap and it works. Back in 2008 I had a bad itch not only on my Butt but also on my anus, upper thighs between the legs, both tesicles and the tip of the penis. From what I now believe it was most likely a male yeast infection or some type of severe jock itch. Even though I used tea tree oil and aloe it came back with a vengeance. I then found using 91% Isoproply Alcohol on cotton rounds or on cotton pads applied to the areas that itched took care of ALL of the itch problems. It will burn like Heck and you will question if this should be happening but it is killing either the yeast, fungus or fungi. How if I could just get rid of the white tonuge... But no more burning down below and that was a couple of years ago. It was driving me crazy... G/l

Once you've ruled out thread worms you have probably got Ani puritus, which is really common in adults. Unfortunately there isn't a definite cure, you will remain susceptible to problems, unless you manage your diet, health and hygiene. Rubbing too hard with toilet paper or not cleaning properly are both culprits. There's now help on the market that lubricates and aids cleansing. Hope you get happy relief.

The most common cause of anal itch (Pruritus Ani) is the continual rubbing and irritation of the sensitive skin with toilet paper. Nuts definitely cause it. I just started a workout program that advised nuts for protein. I've been eating almonds like crazy. Then I started getting the itch! I can stop taking them and the problem goes away. I think I can also get used to it after eating them for awhile?

I thought maybe there were little undigested pieces of the almonds causing the problem, but who knows maybe there is some kind of reaction.
