I would like to ask Ted from Bangkok about keloid scar please

Dear Ted, I had hypertrophic scar on my nose for 5 years, from a cystic pimple. Microdermabrasion 3 years ago flattened it a little bit. Scar was still bothering me, so I massaged it month and week ago with castor oil, which improved and worsened the scar, since there was worsening, I decided to keep the oil within boundaries, therefore massaged it with qtip, which was a bad idea, because it made scar swell up, scab turned on half of it, scar became bigger and wider.

On New Year's Eve (2,5 months ago) I have been observing changes, scar has been raising up a little bit more, and widening more, mainly it grows in line (you could call it either flat or straight keloid I guess), I am afraid that I may have created keloid, because it went further than where damage occured. I have visited dermatologists (2) and plastic surgeons (2), they all said that I have either normal or hypertrophic scar, but believe me, I had some before, and none of them behaved this way. This is definitely something different than what I had previously, and in my opinion it definitely is keloid.

Btw, I have seborrhoeic dermatitis, not sure if it is related somehow to my scar or not (perhaps pressure due to oil is pushing the scar tissue up? Or that oil makes it seem like there is continues damage taking place under the skin?

During last month I have been eating a lot more veggies. In the morning I eat only fruits (mostly oranges and apples, or kiwi, or banana from time to time), and then I have at least 1 salad, where I put ALWAYS broccoli, kale, and spinach (I steam them for couple of minutes of course), carrot, and then rest of the vegetables vary, but mostly it is kohlrabi, red radish, olives (either green or black), cucumber. I also put olive oil or other kind of oil into salad, along with either apple cider vinegar or balzamico vinegar. I also try to drink 1 tea a day, drink lots of water, and take B6, zinc, D3 each day. Scar has still been worsening and spreading unfortunately :(.

How should I treat it please?:(

Thank you.

I had a keloid scar on the back of my ear that developed when I attempted to remove a mole some years ago. The scar grew to about the size of a large pea and was painful and unsightly. As time went on I became more and more self-conscious about it. Even though it was on the back of my ear I was always nervous about it whenever standing in front of people.

After reading a lot of comments about different solutions in removing these types of scars (ACV, rubber bands, tylenol, etc) I tried each one. First I tried tylenol. I ground up a pill with a little bit of water to make a paste and put it on the scar. I did this for about a week and it didn't do anything. Next I tried the rubber band method. This was incredibly painful and I gave up after one day. I even contemplated getting the scar surgically removed but read that scars often come back after surgery.

Lastly I tried Apple Cider Vinegar (organic with the mother). I soaked a cotton ball with the ACV and held it against the scar for about an hour. I was unable to tape the cotton ball to my ear because of the awkward location so I just held it there. Some people have said they had normal skin 'burn' from the ACV but this didn't happen to me. I merely held the cotton ball against the scar. I noticed after a day or 2 the scar started turning a little bit white and opened up a little. Once the scar opened up I could only hold a cotton ball on it for 15-20 minutes at a time because it stung. The stinging was tolerable though and it felt more like it was healing the scar. After another day or two a scab formed. I'm a scab picker so I couldnt resist pulling the scab off. This was a little bit painful as it felt like it was also ripping part of the scar tissue off.

I didn't put ACV/cotton ball on it every single day. In fact, there were times I would go a week without doing it to let the skin heal a little bit. When I would apply the ACV and hold it on my ear it would only be for about 30 minutes. Each time, a new scab would form a couple days later that I would peel off. After a couple of weeks of this I noticed the scar had reduced in size dramatically.

Now the scar is nearly completely flat and just about unnoticeable. It was a virtually pain-free process and I'm so glad to have found such a great remedy. I am even drinking the ACV twice a day with water now. I haven't really noticed much benefits since drinking it but will continue with it. Thanks EC!

People that have keloids should avoid foods and drinks that are acid, sour vinegar, limes, etc, excess salt, and excess sugar red meat. These things make keloids itch and grow much larger. Take vitamins E, C, D , CQ1O LIQUID, KRILL OIL, VIT B COMPLEX if care is taken the darkness will reduce and many times the color will get to be the color of your skin and keloid will become more flat overtime.

I also have keloids and for many years the itching was terrible. I got surgery on one which made it four times bigger. Then I started getting painful injections on another one, which did not help. I got four injections in total and stopped since I changed my diet. That is what made a difference. Also staying hydrated. I will start painting it with iodine. Good luck.

Dear Radhika, I would be very careful with the application of undiluted apple cider vinegar on your skin. It can burn your skin if you press it onto your skin for more than a minute. I know because I held a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar onto a pimple for about 10 minutes and it turned my pimple into a painful wound that was much bigger than the pimple. It scabbed over and took 2 weeks to heal! Be careful!

Well, maybe before. But now I have not really been using anything on the scar, and scar has been worsening by itself. It is widening, and raising on it's own :/. Sometimes I have a feeling like it itchces, but that may be my imagination due to reading so much about keloids and their symptoms.

Not sure if I have keloid or not, but it very well may be one :(. What should I use on it please? I am observing changes every 8-12 hours. It is near tip of my nose, VERY visible :(, and still worsening. It has been month and half now. Thanks.

I have a keloid on my cartilage from an ear piercing. It is about the size a bean. I have been using ACV for about a month. Sometimes I forget to use it and I only do it at night. It scabs over and It even gave me a black spot on it. It scabs over and it goes away. It creates holes in the places that I have my cotton ball on the most but, I think it is working. It hasn't gone down much (I'm not too consistent) but it has flattened and changed shaped which makes me believe if I continue it will flatten even better. I'm white so my skin seems to have turned a bit redder but it's not too bad. I cover my ear everyday anyways and if it flattens more I don't care if there is a red spot. Hope this helps someone figure out what to do. Goodluck and post your story even if the reply is late because if you found this someone else will too!! Like me!!

Salenai, could this be a case of "getting worse before getting better"? Is the Castor Oil pulling things up from below? You can back off a while and read up on other anti-scar remedies.

Dear friends,

One of the biggest problem of people suffering from keloid and my..is the way ortodox medicine and social background treat you. As the medicine have not, or do not want to search for right answer and disturb pharmaceutical capital , you are mostly case for psychiatrist .you are not able to work but your diagnosis is your fantasy, why? Because you are danger for doctors authority because you know much more about your problem than they because you was alone in it but have to survive and you use much more information from internet and your head, I am not prone to keliid as i am not black and I had a lot of skin injuries as it is normal for children.but i have never had keloid on such places. I have keloid on skin place where i got vaccine as a child .and i do not believe in being prone. It is obvious that my immunity is disturb by vacine as happened to many people and place where i got vacine injection is body part with start with fight against toxic and unfamiliar material in vacine. Thanks to my intelligent body that start with inflammation trying to move out enemy from me. I realy have objective feeling all my life that something strange and uncomfortable is in keloid. But i was young and my parents were not informed and we were manipulated by propaganda and brainwashing .my keloid was quiet for years and repeat inflammation after 25 years as I got more toxin from teeth covering. The point is....it is obvious that my and other keloids should be result of 2 variables immunity problem and toxic ingredients which have critical line to show bad symptoms. I want to tell you my very dramatic experience to be public for discussing and feed back. I have started with some kind of drainage beside dieting as i have seen that it helps me in detoxifying and helps me to breath normal and lost of lot dramatic symptoms. Whenever I left some little amount of blood to poor out of keloid I felt a strong metal smell in blood but I felt much better, after one year i have not metal smell .my blood from keloid was nearly blue violet at the beginning and now is normal red. My keloid still exist as my body use kelod to move toxin from many part of body system out through limpha and blood. I do not want to tell other people to do this because of possible infection . I did it with sterile needles and have not infection .but i want to say for those people who are thinking ...the point is detoxication and moving out toxin .all strategies that helps are good but do not use more chemical stuff that doctors give to you as your problem is that your blood and body have more toxin and specially chemical toxin that we can adapt to and that are not biocompatible with human. So, detoxifying is the point..you are not special rase or prone to keloid . You are full of toxin from experimental medicine like vacine, from food, global and local pollution and so...your problem is very objective and you are not psychiatric case. And please doctors leave your internet fobia and read and read and be more informed as this is the way to use medicine in human way because you and your children should be the victim. This is also appel for society to help people who are victim of mostly intended pollution by understanding problem as very objective. Remember people who has not keloid as a sign of body fighting on skin level maybe are full with cysts and other somatic changes and they ignore it as it should not be seen before they get problems with health "without obvious reason.

I have just sent you letter with my case and my way of thinking about keloid and much more. I have found your site the only one that connected tags keloid and detoxifying which means to me so much as this support my way of thinking. I am here alone as our medicine treat keloid as an esthetic problem and is not interested in reason or causes and if it is - the reason is connected with being prone to or hurted by ..no more- all other conclusions that I made by reading a lot and thinking a lot were nearly put to scince fiction or psychiatric case. When I saw your site and understanding the connection between keloid and toxins and your suggestions about treatment I feel that I have friends, able to run away from manipulation, to treat problem with open mind and to treat people with problem in democratic way with communication. I have read a lot from your site and at the moment i am gathering information about detoxifying people with keloid. I sent you my experience. For me actual problem should be many conflict information about antioxidants like garlic, onion, some oils, some vegetables and eg coffe .so i have decided to make decision with help of my sense for good and bad and my body reaction in this conflict information.generally i am using natural food as it possible with lot of vitamins and minerals, trying to avoid! "bad food" and drinking enough water and using showers few time a day , ....but no chemicals .....not teeth paste, not cleaning chemicals, not food staying long time with chemical support, not parfumes , not ear rings, no magnet and so so...I am feeling better as I am not still able to work as I have sometimes some signs coming back and I fall in depression as I am not like others and I still depend on my mother money as our sooial help is not to be mentioned , it is enough for three day eating healthy food and nothing else, so I would like also to see some articles about social treatment of people with such problems

If some puss came out and it scabbed over and healed, it was not a keloid scar. Keloids are fibrous scars, not infections. I've had keloids for 50 years and the only thing I have found that fixes them is eating soy products, like soy veggie patties over several years.

Doctors have tried a number of things to deal with them, like cutting one off, which only resulted in an infection and a worse keloid when that healed. I also endured 300 injections of cortisone into the scars themselves when I was young, in college. You can imagine how painful that was, with no results.

Vitamin E is the only thing that makes a difference at all. I imagine that the soy patties have a lot of Vitamin E, and who knows what else. But it makes the scars go flat, and has even reduced the discoloration to the point where many of them have become invisible.

Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil
Posted by Mama To Many (Tennessee, Usa) on 11/08/2013

Dear Reshma,

Lavender and Tea Tree are usually safe to use on the skin. However, most find Tea Tree to be a little strong used straight. You could diulte it a little (1 part tea tree, 1 part lavender and 2 parts (or more) coconut oil or olive oil.)

Wheat Germ Oil is supposed to be good for scars, but I haven't done that personally.

Comfrey is also a good herb for the skin. It has been known to help heal old scars. You might be able to find a comfrey salve for this purpose.

I have recently been learning about Serrapeptase, which is supposed to dissolve fibrous (scar) tissue. You take it internally. But I am new to using it, so I do not know if it would work for this, but it might be something to research.

Please let us know what helps you. I hope you find your solution soon.

I am a 37 year old male and have had keloids on my back and shoulders for about 15 years and on my chest for about 10. According to the doctor these were formed as part of the healing process for acne that I had in these parts. Aside from surgical removal, I have tried steroid injections and multiple scar removal creams. I recently read the posts I tried the baking soda/hydrogen peroxide remedy as mentioned on the earth clinic site. It has been over a month but has not had an effect on the keloids.

Any further suggestions would be really appreciated. The keloids don't hurt much but do itch and sometimes sensitive to the touch. Thank you.

Do Not Use Hydrogen Peroxide on healing tissue!! It will break the new tissues down!! Also it has to be Food Grade Hydrogen peroxide, not store bought or Pharmacy bought, as these contain additives. You dilute the Food Grade using only DISTILLED WATER, do not use any other water, dilute it to 3 percent. You do this by putting one measure of Food Grade to Eleven equal amounts of Distilled Water, that will make 3 percent. Be careful to avoid new tissues, and I certain ally would not recommend putting it on scar tissue, 3 percent is ok for carefully cleaning a new wound out carefully avoiding any area's that are not damaged, I prefer to use Lugol's iodine for wounds. You can Purchase the Food Grade and Distilled Water, or buy a Distillation unit and make it yourself. Hope this help's you, Love Andrea C xxxxxx

I actually just started using this on both ear keloids. I'm using SSKI which is a saturated iodine that is clear instead of staining your skin. It will take up to a year but worth the wait. I searched many sites and this is the best I could find. I'm hoping it rids me of these ugly scars. 2 or more drops of sski rubbed in to the keloid twice a day or more. May take a few months to see a change. The more you put on the better and faster results! I'll keep you updated. Before and after pics soon to come somewhere..

My daughter's keloid was probably 6 months or older. Her room mate, as I have stated, was very prone to getting keloids quite frequently. It was her doctor who recommended the Tylenol. It was approx. The size of a dime. She would make a paste of tylenol with a few drops of water and leave it on for a short period of about five minutes. It would start to feel like it was burning but started to immediately feel it changing. The colour went from dark to red to lighter as it started to respond to the Tylenol. On about the third application it broke open and oozed a pus like substance and than scabbed over and shrunk about 2/3s.

But, I ask myself the question, which one was it? The ACV taken daily or cleaning & moisturizing my skin with the VCO? Perhaps a combination of both! The VCO has really gotten my facial scars better and ACV has brightened my face up.

I am booked for a surgery for this in August where my doctor will shave the keloid but the products that will be used to prevent from coming has been suggested as cancerous later in life.

In doing some online research for keloid treatments, I found the following:

Dr. Tirgan in New York City has started the Keloid Research Foundation. There they are attempting to obtain funding for research on this condition. There are several surveys that those people with keloids can take to provide them with more information regarding this condition. You can also sign up to be a member. Although I am not certain there's much reason to do so, I did. Dr. Tirgan has a specialized website for his private practice, also, and one dedicated to keloid information. He sells a topical panax ginseng cream for keloid treatment. Anyway, I would encourage ANYONE who is seeking treatment or information regarding keloids to get in touch with the foundation! The more people willing to participate in the surveys, etc, the more they'll learn about this condition.

I'm trying the scar treatment cream along with lugol's iodine solution AND Kelocote silicone gel. Not sure, but it seems my keloid scars are reducing just barely. I plan to continue this course even if over the next year and hope to see noticable results!

Hi Teegurl... The remedy I would use for keloids is Ted's lugol's iodine and DMSO (Dimethylsulfoxide) in a 50 - 50 mix. Apply this twice a day to the keloid area. The DMSO helps the iodine to efficiently penetrate deep into the sub-epidermal layers which is where iodine does its best work by helping to regenerate new skin while pushing off the old keloid scar. DMSO is also useful for the skin. Your pain or inflammation problem may well also be caused by pathogens -- this is where lugol's iodine is also highly useful -- because it kills most pathogens in less than one minute.

After topical application of the DMSO/LI mix it would also be useful to apply aloe vera oil afterwards -- this will help heal the skin too. If you have difficulty finding lugols iodine then potassium iodide is fine to use as SSKI (Saturated Solution of Potassium Iodide).
