I had a severe case of ringworm in 1959 when I was in the army. They gave me big pills of potassium permanganate. In the evening I dissolved one pill in water and soaked my feet in it for about 10 minutes. I did it every day, once a day, and it took less than 2 weeks to kill the ringworm--totally healed. It has never bothered me since.

Just so that everyone knows, ringworm is a viral skin infection and not an actual worm. L-Lysine is helpful as well for anti-viral and skin health. You can take a large dosage the first day - I take a few thousand mg, then one or two tabs a day after that.

Good luck with the ringworm. It can be tough. One thing to try is to rub an herb on the skin that seems to be working and then go buy waterproof bandages to put on top of that. Keep the bandage on as long as possible. Then replace the herb and bandage again until the ringworm is gone. You are trying to suffocate the ringworm and keep from infecting him again. I heard clear nail polish does this as well. Perhaps use both at the same time. Wash the all towels, sheets and clothes in vinegar so he is not reinfected...... Even when it goes away keep doing this for a month to make sure it doesn't come back if possible.
I am curious ... where on the Vedic birthchart would it say if someone would get ringworm?
Let us know how your son does....

Well, I think it would work to be safe is to get an old bullet like I had, and open it up like I did and get the bullet on line, if you can and the reason why is because the ring worm won't spread and their is no pain doing it this way, and I used a bullet that my dad had and that one didn't go back quite that far and it worked for my friend.

Hello,
I am new to this site. I was recommended to try Apple Cider Vinegar by my nurse practitioner for ringworm I have under my arm. I did some research on this site, and everyone says they rub the site very hard until they bleed. Is this necessary to get the ringworm to go away or can I just hold a cotton ball soaked with ACV over the spot briefly?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Dear Awk, I do not think it necessary or wise to rough up the skin before treating with apple cider vinegar. Breaking more skin is moving away from healing. We have treated ringworm on people and cats without further damaging tissue. If ACV does not work, we used olive oil with tea tree and lavender essential oils to treat ringworm successfully. ~Mama to Many~

Awk (Nola)---
I have used Turmeric powder for many years for ringworm on cats. It disappears within days. The area must be dry (on human skin) and the powder applied gently. Repeat during the day and wear clothes that can be washed and are not the best ones. When washing with laundry soap, there will be a deep pink which disappears with time or when exposed to the sun.
Doesn't even cost pennies. Namaste, Om

You need to attack ringworm internally as well as externally. I have had 2 bouts, the first was on the inner thigh, not nice. Timodine got rid of that.
The second bout happened about 2 years after on my lower back, timodine did a little but it seemed they were more resistant. I remembered when I had the first bout I started drinking home made garlic and onion soup, this may have helped get rid of it internally.
It is slowly going away, ACV can sting but the sting soon goes away. Soak a face cloth (to only be used for this purpose) in a slightly diluted mixed of water and ACV and allow to soak for at least 20 mins. One big tip is to have a hot bath first, open the pores of the skin to allow the Apple Cider Vinegar to get right into the skin. This approach is working better than any OTC or prescription I have had for this bout.
I have also started drinking Apple Cider Vinegar as mentioned in the replies. Remember to continue the process well after you think it has disappeared, because it is basically waiting to come back again if you don't.
Good luck.

I have a similar problem going on for almost two years. It started on my right leg and not having a clue about skin issues I ignored it and moisturised a bit more. It got worse and larger and I had no idea what it could be. I obviously went through what a lot of people do. Wrong diagnosis, wrong treatments etc all making it worse. Just recently after an acupuncture treatment it spread to my other leg and both thighs. The acupuncture must have activated the skin. I had had a few breakouts on both thighs which would then dry up after a while. I came to the conclusion myself that it had to be ringworm by reading this site and gradually studying dermatophyte behaviour.
I used ACV and everything else under the sun but nothing would get it off my right leg. Having looked at some electron mocroscope pictures of dermatophytes I just went to war. I discovered that clove bud oil seemed to bring one of the new spreading patches to the surface and dry it out. I researched clove bud oil and sure enough it turns out to be one of the best fungus killers available. Result!
OK so far but leg and old infection must be dealt with. The skin had built layers and layers of protective covering and lumps so no wonder nothing would reach it. It had also been in a constant state of inflammation. I sandpapered in the bath before filling it with water which removed a few dusty layers but not enough.
So I got some bentonite clay and made a paste with ACV. Painted the complete leg thickly with this mix, wrapped it in cling film and left on for 24 hours. Stung like hell but I dealt with that by imagining each sting as a dermatophyte screaming and fighting for its life. Another one bites the dust. Fantastic result. All I had to do was take a smooth knife and scrape the skin off revealing for the first time the extent of the fungus. Oh boy! ACV soaked cotton wool rubbed in vigorously seems to have killed it off. The spots are dark red brownish so it looks pretty dead.
Back to the other leg and thighs! Tried rubbing clove oil all over instead of just on the outbreaks. That was a revelation. They are literally covered in fungus. The clove oil seems to bring to the surface fungus you don't know is there so you can see the extent of the actual infection. It seems to pretty much kill it as the rash it creates is rough to the touch and red at first.
Clove doesn't sting unless the skin is broken and then it's mild compared to ACV. When clove oil is absorbed after an hour or two I smother everything with Aloe Vera Gel. That is one of the only substances which penetrates to the hypodermis and so carries the clove oil with it. Fungus doesn't stand a chance LOL! When I can take more stinging I alternate with ACV spray just to keep things going! All out attack! To help the skin along I occasionally mix the aloe vera with coconut oil.
For the final stage I have ordered colloidal silver spray. Salt and vinegar in the bath first of course. Forever!!
I feel great because I know I have it licked. The inflammation in the leg has cooled off which means the skin's immune system doesn't have living fungus to deal with. Skin is gradually looking healthier.
Still a way to go but at least when I do get rid of it, it will be ALL of it with nothing left hidden and I will have new skin. I am 70 years old so that can't be bad.
The only thing I didn't learn here was the clove bud oil trick. I just happened to have some on hand and tried it. So thank you everybody for all the input and maybe my method might just help somebody else.
You are all terrific!
Ps I think I picked this up from a friend's dog who was chewing at his paw forever! He would leap into bed with me in the morning for a play session while I was on a three month visit a couple of years ago.

Ringworm help please. I have what the doctor says is ringworm. It seems to be fading (slowwwly) with clotrimazole. However after reading everyone's posts here it seems it always comes back or becomes resistant? What can I do right now to aid the healing process. I am going crazy with this, afraid to touch my own face etc. I have three spots, all on my legs.
Also, if you see a pimple like bump what can you do right away to keep it from developing/getting worse?
Can anyone speak to there being any truth that you need to take on an anti candida like diet :S seems extreme

To Naturalrush/ Canada:
Greetings...the joys of killing a fungus. Not.
Know what you're going thru. Ringworm is persistent and I've used a lot of different things to counter attack: Success with Epsom Salts... Disolve the mag sulfate in water leaving it graney and take the paste and rub vigorously if you like on the infected spot. It sure feels good too if itching. Just let it dry. Again a few hours later. Then apply borax; as in 20 Mule Team Borax, which has boron in it. Let dry. Again apply an hour later and let dry.
That is a three day protocol. If the fungus is in the system then you'll see the infection re emerge at different skin locations as ringworm seeks the skin and I'm thinking (maybe wrong but I think not) that the fungus if in the blood stream will seek out its favorite "home" which is the skin.
So to kill it system wide; colloidal silver taken daily over a two month period with alternating doses of bentonite clay or charcoal... You can get the clay in health food stores in pill form and also the charcoal in powder form. I know charcoal is in powder canisters also but I've only used it to take internally by pill. Either way, powder disolved in water or in pill form it's a good cleanser.
By the way, you might try using charcoal and clay... Either one... Topically too if the epsom salts/boron aren't doing the trick. CS also topically might work. I'd combine CS with DMSO if you are going to use topically to get it deep into the skin layers to the root system of the fungus.

To Natural rush in Canada re ringworm (fungus) cures:
I posted about using "clay" and incorrectly said you can take that by capsule... and was talking also about charcoal. NO. The clay you mix in water and disolve and drink or make a more solid paste to apply topically. Over the years I've used CHARCOAL in pill form not clay in pill form. You can also make a paste out of charcoal and apply topically.
So sorry. And I do proof my posts three times before sending. I'll have to start proofing four times. (Or stop writing in the middle of the night... Which is when I am most alert... I thought.)

Thank you for your reply! When you say let the epsom salt dry do you mean for a few minutes then wash off? I cant imagine just leaving it on lol. I have no clue what the heck borax is, will look into it. Will taking ACV orally help kill the fungus internally? I already have it at home (with 'the mother') Have you gotten rid of your ringworm successfully?

Hello again Naturalrush: In re Ringworm; you let the Epsom compress (just a thick mix of a tablespoon of epsom salts with enough water to disolve... But expect it to be a bit lumpy. Now apply as a compress, just spoon it onto the rash site and let dry for twenty minutes. You can leave longer until completely dry and then wash off. Hours later repeat as described in prior post.
Best to you,

For about a month and a half I had a rash that started mysteriously around Xmas, and I wasn't sure what it was or how I got it. At first it started as bumps then the bumps turned into rings... And then I knew it was ringworm. And it covered my arms, torso, and legs. Pretty much I was devestated. The first rememdy of coconut oil and lavendar oil didn't do too much. It seemed to dry out the parts of the rash which wasn't but didn't do too much to help kill it. I then went on to use Lotrimin which was fine, but something told me to search for more. I then found this site and saw the information on Menthol and Wormwood Oil ... Needless to say its been a day and I'm already seeing results as well as using tea tree oil on the affected areas. I'm amazed this is working so well, plus it seems to help with the itching which has been a huge bane. THANK YOU For this information. Ringworm on this level is very harsh to deal with and effects self esteem... I'm very certain this method will kill this issue. :)

My thick, lustrous hair has been getting thinner and thinner over the past two years, so much so I have had to cut most of it off. Docs have ruled out pretty much everything so I went for a complete body scan. The 'computer' picked up Microsporum Canis - a fungus that causes Tinea Capitis, or scalp ringworm. Anyone can contract it. Funny thing is that I don't have any of the other symptoms except thinning hair and occasional itching. What would you recommend? Borax? Or the AVC with Peroxide? Or the tea tree oil with lavender oil? I've heard that Tinea Capitis is very hard to get rid of. Please also include exact measurements and how many times per day/week.

To Ex-rapunzel from Cape Town, South Africa: organic extra virgin coconut oil is antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, antibacterial, and antiseptic. Massage into your hair and scalp before bed and shampoo out in the morning. Do this each night and you should see improvement within a few days. I suggest you coninue nightly until you see the results you desire and then reduce frequency to a couple of times a week. There are no negative side effects and coconut oil is very good for hair, scalp and skin.
False Ringworm

I went through such a horrible experience with what I thought was ringworm, that I wanted to share my story in hopes to save people from what I went through:
My first spot appeared in August 2012 on my stomach, at first I thought it was a bad insect bite that just wasn't subsiding, but it slowly grew and started to look like ringworm. I had had ringworm earlier in my life from playing with barn kittens, and showed to the spot to my parents, who confirmed it was ringworm. I went to a CVS and purchased some lotrimin, as directed by the internet. a month in the lotrimin did nothing, new spots were apearing, on my upper thigh, back, but and 1 behind the knee.
When the over the counter meds weren't working, I finally decided to go to a doctor, who after a quick visual inspection confirmed it was ringworm, sent me off with a topical and oral fluconizole because it was so wide spread. No results after three weeks, so I went to another physician.
This doctor took scrapings to do a KOH test, and a live culture. Perscribed me oral lamisil (TERRIBLE for your liver) and another stronger anti fungal topical. 3 weeks later, the spots grew larger, continued to flake and occasionally itch. Both tests came back negative.
I decided to take the matters to a learned dermatologist- a supposed expert on skin conditions. Once again, diagnosed as ringworm, with a positive KOH test ON SITE. I was distraught- ready to try ANYTHING. She prescribed me "the strongest topical antifungal there is, there is no way this won't work- naftin cream"
Naturally I went on EC and read positive reviews for nail polish, bleach and ACV. I even started going to an accupuncturist. Bleach and ACV did nothing... I used 1:3, 1:1 or straight bleach on one spot behind my knee (it actually worked! ), but it was really painful, and I was afraid to use iton the larger, more sensitive areas affected.
Two weeks later I was back in her office, in tears, they had only gotten worse, the strongest cream in the world had not worked, I was ready to take a bleach bath. The doctor was puzzled and I ended up getting a biopsy. 7 days later the results were in - ECZEMA.
She prescribed me a strong steroid cream. the spots were 90% better OVERNIGHT, and 100%, with the exception of some minor skin discoloration in 1 week.
Prior to seeing all three doctors, I informed them that my mother has eczema, and if there was anyway this was some type of eczema, they all dismissed me.
I went through 3.5 months of absolute hell thinking I had incurable ringworm. I couldn't focus on anything buy ringworm, I tried naturasil, and neem products (all of which I was refunded for :) ). and spend hundreds of dollars on other remedys, creams etc etc.
If after a month, your "ringworm" isn't responding to anything, ask your doctor to "try" a steroid cream. They are often hesitant to perscribe them, because if it was actually ringworm, it makes it even worse.
Good Luck!

omg I feel ya, I had this blister big one, size tip of pinky about 1/8th of an inch deep, itched like crazy! Went to dr oooh for months, same thing over and over athletes foot, well, finally my mom took me to my aunts office a dr's office yeaaah!, well by this time I had blisters on both feet and it moved up to my hands, he said now tell me if this hurts and I'll stop but I need to scrape these for a culture ....ooooo I was in awwwhh, asking please don't stop! He laughed we waited in the office and he came back within minutes and said I've never seen fungus grow this fast it was white and spreading up the sides of the vile! In minutes!!! Diagnosis? well fungal infection that started due to living on a yaht and carpets get wet, dry, wet, damp, dry etc!
It took me 3 days shy of 1 year to get rid of it and to this day 30yrs later I still get these tiny blisters on the sides of my fingers, what was horrible is that these blisters where coming from inside out you could see them bubbling out of the little hole's eeww like beach clams!, and I now am allergic to all antibiotics except septra, I didn't care I took the last bottle of antifungal pills, that was their last attempt, what happened to add to it I had an allergic reaction to the infection which caused another, add-on which I had a severe allergic reaction on top of it was 3 high of reactions, my feet turned black! And I now have a ring worm ...which is a fungal infection and am terrified that it's turning into the same thing.
and to add to curiosity, my son's fiance is pregnant and the resulting hormones caused valley fever to surface, they induced coma, it went from one lung to another, in days I made her go to hospital, I knew she had pneumonia, when she said her chest hurt, she's been from one hospital then flown by chopper to stanford, last few days is first time, she's eaten, walked few steps at a time but it's a deadly disease most go unnoticed but she was litterally dying and its got a 60% death rate in AZ. in previous studies 1 year there was approx 2,200 cases, in the following year 22,000+ cases!
so I'm wondering if there is any relation tho is said not to cross or jump but the ringworm I got omg I've never seen chit like that but her kids have had it a few times, and think possibly I got it from their house. I actually was freaked out for days thinking it was an actual bug under my skin, theres my phobia BUGS! I've had bleach bath's doc said don't use this cream for more than 5 more days! So I didn't and the bottoms of my feet look like wax paper and then that itch if I had a black'n decker i'd be on high speed with one! Lol, but now ...omg this on top of everything else ...just ducky! I am in love with this site I've been reading for hours!
bleach and I'm making list of other remedies! Thanks!!

Update - it wasn't ringworm after all. This was confirmed by a visit to the dermatologist's office. The nurse practitioner gave me a treatment to soothe the symptoms, and this is what really worked for me as I waited for it (pityriasis rosea) to fade away.
It was a mistake to self-treat, it only made things worse by causing scarring that took a very long time to go away. I think it can be wise to get a diagnosis and consult a doctor if you can before any self-treatment.

For ringworm I contracted at the gym or nail salon on my lower leg. Never having had it before, I had no idea what it was, at first I thought it was a spider or mosquito bite. But it didn't go away, then it became round and red, I saw pictures of ringworm online and it looked the same so I bought antifungal cream, used it for two weeks with no improvement, I went to the Dr and he gave me different antifungal cream, it also did no good after a week, and the circle got larger. I found this website by chance while I was researching the subject and I'm really glad I did. I've used several remedies suggested on this website and I want to add my experiences incase it could help someone else with this fungus. Absorbine jr. , apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil all worked by not letting it spread and for relief of itch.
Before I knew what it was, I was putting antibiotic ointment on it and covering it with a band aid and I think the moist environment strengthened the hold the fungus had on my skin. Anyway, I've been super diligent about disinfecting everything as well as loosely covering it at night with a 4''x4'' square of white cotton fabric and paper tape so it won't rub against the bed or sheets but is still able to breathe and stays dry. Plus I don't want to spread it to my husband or cat. I've been doing that for three weeks now, the first two with just the absorbine jr, then I started the tea tree oil, but it smells unpleasant so I went to apple cider vinegar, has been working great, I actually think it's almost cured. The vinegar made a layer of skin rub off after a couple days and it was pink and raw so I cut a piece of aloe vera off my plant, sliced it longwise and put it right on the raw part, then taped a piece of gauze dipped in vinegar over top the aloe and left it on all night, next morning it felt better and looked like the fungus is dying off and the healing is happening finally. I can't believe how difficult it's been to get rid of this, I hope any info I gave will help others. As others have suggested I'll keep treating the area for at least two weeks after it seems gone, I never want to deal with this horrible fungus again.

Kim. I would say you can use this on the scalp without affecting the hair because they make a product with the exact ingredients as the original Absorbine Jr, (Not Plus-new formula), for horses. Says it is good for shiny hair. By the way if you buy this it is about a 1/4 the cost for a lot more. 16 ounces = $10. I went to a local cattle store and bought it after they sent me absorbine PLUS in the mail by accident, and I could not wait anymore because it was spreading. The link can also help you find where it is sold by you.

When I was growing up whenever we kids got ringworm our mom or grandmother, whoever we were around at the time, would break off a leaf from a fig tree and apply the milky sap coming from the stem of the leaf to the lesion which would cause a temporary mild increase in the itching and it would be reapplied once or twice a day until the lesion dissapeared in a few days. Of course this only works during the part of the year when the fig trees have leaves on them. These are the kind of fig trees that have the edible fruit on them.

First I want to start off by saying this is the first site I came too for a cure for my ringworm almost a year ago and I am now ringworm free thank god and AVC!! I had my ringworm since june 2011 and I went to see my doc two days ago and my ringworm is finally gone!!! Yaaaay anywho if anyone is going through the same this is what I did, (1) wash ringworm (2) put tea tree oil for at least two hours (3) wash again then put rubbing alcohol on wait until it dries then put AVC ON A PAPER TOWEL MAKE SURE ITS SOAKED!! Put a sock over it, it might burn a little and let sit for a hour or two and if it dries put more AVC, It took a while for it to go away but it worked and make sure to use it 2wks after its gone! I don't know how long it's been gone because I thought I still had it because I now have eczema where my ringworm was But I can deal with that instead of a nasty ringworm;-) GOOD LUCK I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thank God For Absorbine Jr. This is my first time having ring worm. I have a quarter size patch on my left arm, near my elbow. It was very itchy and red. I came across this website, went to CVS and purchased Absorbine Jr. On my break. I cleansed the area with a baby wipe and applied the Absorbine with a cotton ball. I then held it in place until the tingling subsided. I am now back at work, the itchiness has stopped and the redness has calmed to a pink. After one application I am confident that this will work. I thank God and can now finish work and know I'm on my way to healing. Thanks earth clinic!!!!

There are tons of remedies I for one currently have it... I have been studying the body for 5 years. This is horrible. Most common places to get ringworm a NEW animal... Cats, Rabbits, Puppies, Horses. Other places such as a public restroom with still water, dirty swimming pool, let's not forget a locker room. Ringworm is a tenia most common tinea is tinea pedis (athletes feet) if you have a new animal take them to your trusted vet just because you don't see it does not mean they do not have it. I bleached the entire house, got the medicine Ketoconazole it is in a tablet and a cream in the anti-parasite family (ringworm is a skin parasite), Hydroxyz for itching! The Itch Stopped There!! Get if in your case it's from an animal a LiME dip treatment bottle! DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON PRESCRIPTION PET MEDS!!!! Dip the pet use the cream and pills in just 2 days the infection starts to disappear! The meds are good ESP. If you are one allergic to a lot of medication this only side effect is drowsiness. And the line dip wear gloves, don't wear rings!!! I know this may be long but trust me more details the better.. Ifffff you are using at home remedies do NOT USE THE SAME FINGER TWICE ON DIFFERENT RINGS THAT HELPS THE INFECTION TO SPREAD!!!! USE DIFFERENT FINGERS THEN WASH HANDS THOROUGHLY!!!! I hope this helps!!!! Oh and lastly WASH BED CLOTHES IN HOOOOOT WATER!!!!

I'm thinking of trying spray Ketoconazole on a small area of my problem as an experiment.
Menthol and Wormwood Oil

I had a spot of ringworm on my inner thigh in the groin area that I treated with CVS brand lamisil for a month. It went away and came back. I kept applying the cream twice a day for two months or more, and it never went away. Then I saw another spot on my left leg. When I switched to another cream, it got angry and more red and larger. Then I got desperate, imagining this nasty stuff spreading like wildfire.
I have been using absorbine Jr. four times a day for almost 2 weeks now. There was a lot of flaking and scaling within the first week, and the burning was fierce on the raw areas. But now on day 12, things are looking 70% better. I hope with another week of treatment it should be gone. In researching ringworm, I am making sure to cover it lightly with bandages so it can breathe but not spread. Also, I am only wearing pants one day and washing all of my bottoms separately from tops etc with Borax and clorox for colors, along with my regular detergent so this stuff doesn't infect me elsewhere. Yuck.

I noticed I had a red circle on my outer thigh but just thought it was dry skin, until about 2 weeks later when I researched it and found out it was ringworm. I don't know how I got it, but I bought some Lotrimin to put on twice a day (It's hard to wear jeans with it on because it will rub off, so I have to wear pajamas so the ringworm can breathe). I also have been putting on Melaleuca's tea tree oil on it as well (2-3 times a day). It's been one full week and the ringworm is already looking much lighter. I figure about a week or two more and it will be all the way gone, but the Lotrimin says to keep using it for 4 weeks.

Try patting milk of magnesia on the ringworm and letting it dry for 20 minutes then washing it off. This remedy worked for me when I had Cheilitis on my lips when steroids and anti fungal cream did not! Thanks to Ted and this site for this wonderful natural remedy!

I've been doing this for a few days, I also use an undecilenic acid cream mixed with Vicco Turmeric cream at night (the infection is in my hand, so the cream would gets ashed away if I apply it during the day), and it seems to be working very well.
I'm amazed at the results, and I'm hoping that after several years, I can finally get cured.
Thank you for sharing.
