I am very glad that I found Earth Clinic Folk Remedies especially regarding the scabies cures.
I discovered that I have scabies last Saturday though I have had the beginning of symptoms for a couple of weeks. I totally agree with someone else that said that this is a disease from hell. My hands are a mess with scabby red blotches and red spots.
I have tried the diatomaceous earth with partial success. I find that it is quite effective at taking away or reducing the pain after I apply it to the red spots that are bothering me the most. Someone else mentioned the importance of getting the food grade diatomaceous earth.
I also tried the mixing bleach with water cure, mixing I cup with two cups of water. I burned my skin and caused my hand and forehead to swell up. This was because I used the wrong kind of bleach. It was Western Family, regular scent bleach, and it says "Kills viruses that cause colds and flu. " This kind of bleach is not based on hydrogen peroxide and is very toxic. It contains sodium hypochlorite.
The appropriate kind of bleach is hydrogen peroxide based. Sharon from Wesley Chapel, FL says that she found non-chlorine bleach at WalMart with a pink label. At my WalMart the label is a green-blue color, and it says GREAT VALUE Chlorine-Free BLEACH - Cleans and whitens - Scent free. In reading the label it says that it contains hydrogen peroxide, citric acid and water.
When I called the poison center I was told to be careful with putting more potentially harmful chemicals on my hands while they are recovering from the bleach (wrong kind) that I used.
I also tried the Citrus Listerine-mouthwash cure which follows up with orange oil which I diluted 1/2 with olive oil. This was after using the wrong bleach treatment. I did sleep very well for six hours last night after trying that treatment.
The skin on my hands have had a lot of stress with the scabies, the wrong bleach, the diamotaceous earth and the Listerine mouthwash.
I now have the right kind of bleach, (chlorine-free and containing hydrogen peroxide, citric acid and water). But I am going to wait a while before trying it to give my hands a while to heal from the previous treaments.
I have ordered an herb that I understand comes from India called triphala, which should arrive by this Friday, 18 february 2011. It has helped some to cure scabies. It comes in the form of a powder and is used every day in a 1/2 cup of warm water with a drink of water afterwards as a chaser because it is pretty bitter. I will give a report later on how that works out for me. I like the idea that it works from the inside out. Or in other words it is taken internally and yet kills the scabies mite.
I wanted to warn other readers on this site that it is very important to get the right products or to be smarter than I was and read the labels carefully.

Hi Courtney, yes you can put borax in a spray bottle and leave it on for as long as it feels good to you! Try maybe an hour before showering at first and leave on longer if need be next time. About maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the bottle borax, the rest water. Lily.

Thanks for all of the advice! Seriously, this is the only website that I have actually found useful advice on! I found Borax and want to use it on my skin but I do not have a tub in my apartment. Does anyone know of another effective way to use the Borax treatment without having to soak in it? Can I put it in a spray bottle and spray it on? I know you are supposed to leave it on but do you leave it on until your next shower? I'm literally going insane here! Any advice will help!! Thanks in advance!!

I had been suffering from scabies for over a year. I have had four doses of Perm, and three doses of ivermectum (one dose a week for three weeks) I did this all reluctantly and have about 75% success with the ivermectum. These things are resiliant as hell, don't underestimate their ablility to survive, they've been around longer as a species then we have. I did every home remedy known (neem soap, neem leaf, oral neem, tea tree, coconut oil, borax, etc. etc. ). I cleaned everything religiously, never wore the same thing twice no matter how tempting. Steamed all my clothing and bedding before wash with an industrial steamer. I will tell you right now the girl who posted here has nailed it right on the head. I found a post about three months back by a girl who said bleach was the cure. I did a 1 to 3 ratio of household clorox bleach to water in a spray bottle and sprayed myself down and left it on over night.
Bleach is the cure. It may be dangerous but totally worth it. It took three times of doing this with spot treating with bleach and a blow dryer but I am now scabie free. Mostly it's important to know that your dog having a parasite is much different and honestly you cannot relate. Heating a spot that has brand-new bumps with a blow dryer to just past the point of being uncomfortable will kill them. Doubling that with the bleach, you're basically good to go.

Hi, my husband and I have been doing the peroxide / borax baths for 2 days now. When we started he had no hair on his chest, legs and face, along with red bumps all over. Since we have been doing the baths he looks horrible! I want to cry everytime I see him. He has scabs and sores all over him, he is lethargic and smells. The oozing has stopped and they look like red scabs all over a bare body. Is this normal? is this a its going to look worse before it gets better? He had this problem a few months back and I gave him a couple baths with the peroxide and borax and he healed right up. But not this time..... Please help! We are struggling to put food on the table for our kids, so right now a vet is not an option.

This did not work for me at all. As a matter of fact, I believe this caused the mites to spread. After having rashes in one area for four months, within days after starting the soaks, I started to get bites on my back and sides And even on my face. I also did not see any improvement with my original rash.

I am writing to thank you! I and my boyfriend has Scabies, He had it very badly and I had only a little of it, because I followed your directions! I never took a remedy from a pharmacy! He did take the pills and use the cream, but that DID NOT really work for him, he was reinfected after using the pharmacy remedy, only when I arrived with the Borax and citrus soap did we finally get COMPLETELY CURED and we have seen nothing since.
We also covered the mattresses with plastic bags and spayed prior with anti-parasite spray from France, but the black plastic bags worked wonders, used gloves to cover them.
We put just about all of our clothes in plastic bags and put them away and we did not reuse anything for almost one month/few weeks (luckily we have many clothes).
I want to share what really did work though. After my boyfriend was reinfected the situation was fa worse for him. It looked like a real mess, then I came and we used the Borax (with a hot bath as best we could since in the Caribbean there is not hot water) as a scrub to scrub of all of the tops of the sores even on penis and it hurt him but it surely got rid of the eggs. I read in the Paul Pitchford Healing with Whole Foods book to cook the Borax with oil and we made a remedy which was still really a scrub and after the bath we applied it to every single sore and left it sit there for a few hours. After we removed this we put on Orange Oil and Tee Tree oil that I bought in Philadelphia PA. Then we let it sit and I swear that within 2 days ALL SORES WERE GONE LIKE A MIRACLE>

Use the BORAX to SCRUB THE SORES AND THEN MAKE A PASTE WITH a light cooking of olive (or any oil) not a long cooking just to mix then apply to sores and leave on few hours follow with the oils, be careful.

I just recently figured out that I have scabies, so my boyfriend and I have been doing a slue of things both to ourselves and the apt to do a full cleanse and it has been going great. We've seen a significant reduction of bites, itching, and all that jazz.
Cleaning house/apt. we've been using a mix of bleach and water on the mattress, borax powder on upholstery that we vacuum off after letting it set for an hour or 2, anything small enough and un-important enough has been bagged and will remain sealed for at least 5 days, and as far as cleaning the floor we've been using rubbing alcohol and water. Rubbing alcohol kills the mites when they're host-less. As far as your other inquiry about how long it takes, well, we've been doing all this stuff for a few days and have seen significant improvements (sulfur scrub in the morning [Brimstone salt scrub from lush] followed by calamine and lotion, tbls applecider vinegar at breakfast and before bed, borax bath at night along with an anti-histamine. Itching less, fewer bites, and it's only been a few days.

I ordered sulfur cream and sulfur soap and it works when you are trying to kill scabies, it does not kill the eggs, but if you keep using it you will be cured. You can go to your local drug store ask for sulfur powder and make your own sulfur cream. This stuff works. I have tried almost everything else, and it was horrible, the horrible smells, the burning oh god it was bad. Sulfur is non toxic and it does not smell bad and it works. It is very gentle. Think sulfur and you will be thinking cure scabies no more sleepless nights. No more dreading the night, sulfur is the cure, nothing else has come close to sulfur.
I tried permethian from canada and mexico you get more from mexico but they use formaldehyde as a preservative its 5% perm and 1% forma so that is not good I used the stuff and got some relief but it did not work, I ran out of it, and it was less and less effective. I do not think sulfur will ever lose its effectiveness. Thank god for sulfur. I spent 60 dollars for about two and half pounds of sulfur cream along with 10 bars of sulfur soap. You can make your own sulfur cream and its much cheaper. If I need more sulfur cream I think I will make my own its so much cheaper.
I have found the best way to use it is sulfur cream applied to the affected areas rub it in, it is very gentle. At this point I usually feel sand like particles on my skin. Leave the cream on for an hour if you can. Get in the bath wash with sulfur soap if you have it regular soap if you do not. Get out of tub dry off put the sulfur cream on again rub it in leave it on. Do this upon rising and before going to bed. There are different methods of using sulfur soap/cream. Good luck!

How long does this cure take to rid one of bird mites? I've started in the last 5 days. I also need to know how to rid them from my car and apartment. I have bamboo floors and can't use borax on them -- landlord wouldn't be a happy! I've been spraying windex in the car, but I still have them.
Any help would be appreciated. The two people I've tried to tell this about don't really believe me. They think I'm just stressed out. Who would make this up?

After trying borax for another 2 months, laundry, bathing, etc. For the outbreak of mange in my area, and finally I developed scabies myself in the first week of December. I'm glad of it because I have found a better way to heal mange and scabies (cured 1 dog that was completely blackened and hairless and myself).
I read Peter Morell's PSORINUM http://www.homeoint.org/morrell/articles/pm_psori.htm and followed his protocol of 1 dose of psorinum 30 and to wait 2 months.
The first 5 days the itching was intolerable but within 9 days the scabs dried up. I got patches of scabies around my joints throughout the first month but without much itching.
I recommend this cure since it healed me and a dog already (he's already got most of his hair back) and please read to the end about surface cures, topical creams and aggravations.

Im a single guy that is working hard and dont have that much time at home. So when I get back and get bitten all night Im going crazy RIGHT NOW on my laptop reading your cures. Well, after using those dumb bug bombs from home depot Im going with the borax. As soon as I get up in the morning Im going to do what you suggest. For 2 months now I have bumps everywhere and am GOING crazy so hopefully tomorrow night I can stop being the bug buffet. I hate these M##!! &% bugs. Thanks again

I have recently purchased for curing scabies diatomaceous soil, permethrin 5%, enzymes from kleen green, and finally most recently I purchased sulphur soap and sulphur cream from some where in oklahoma. The sulphur soap and cream work!!! , nothing else has worked. When I rub the cream into the affected areas where the rash is, after I rub it in for a few seconds, well it begins to feel like sand appears I can feel it I guess that is the dead scabies. Any-who the sulphur soap and cream especially the cream, kill scabies.
I have been using the soap and cream for 5 days and am almost completely free from. Please look into and order the cream and you will see that it does work its really quite amazing I am so happy that after 3 years I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think that generally you can purchase sulphur powder locally and mix it with oil of some kind. Maybe you might consult a pharmacist about the sulphur powder and or products.

I have had scabies for about three years, on and off im not sure if I have ever completely got rid of them. They come and go. I have tried many products and spent a lot of money. Recently I tried sulfur soap and sulfur cream it is inexpensive and it works. Results are fast although you have to keep up the regimen for a while. Sulfur works and I urge anyone with scabies to look into the use of sulfur to cure scabies.

You said you saw 2 bugs. Where were they? On your body? Or on furniture? Also scabies mites are teeny tiny. This might be bedbugs, which is a whole different, disgusting, can of worms. Clean all your clothes, change your sheets, use the hottest dryer setting, and use a hair blowdryer to get at the seams of your mattress if you are actually worried about bed bugs.

I doubt that this would manifest a 'cure' for scabies, but it could make them leave your body. When you take Apple Cider Vinegar it detoxes the digestive system like Drano and cleans the system so rapidly WATCH OUT I've used it when I am really ill. It can cure things because it makes you an unwanted host. I suggest fasting off of sugar (even take less fruit) and spices. All inner parasites look for a negative terrain to run rampant. Use the Cider Vinegar! I just went for mine and I'm out. No funds for it or else I'd be on it now.

Try using Eno salts and Glyco-thymoline. The ENo will alkalinize the body, a teaspoon in a glass of water every morning before breakfast for 6 to 7 days. Then take a cotton ball soaked in Glyco-thymoline and put that on the parts that are affected. When it has dried, put 2 ounces of Camphorated oil (which is just camphor and olive oil) and 1/2 ounce of lanolin in a bottle. Bathe the body with a sponge or massage this into your skin. It wouldn't hurt if you drank a little bit of Glyco-thymolie in water once or twice a day either, 4-6 drops in water.

I have a 9 month old grand-daughter which has had blisters on the bottoms of her feet for over 3 months now. It started out a blister on the mouth, which was diagnosed as Foot-Hand-Mouth disease. After a month of the blisters moving from her mouth to her hands and feet, her pediatrician decided it wasn't FHM disease and wanted to treat her for Psoriasis. After another month of treatment for Psoriasis, no cure. The blisters were still there and new ones coming on a daily basis. She even had one huge blister in her head. Her pediatrician treated her for scabies, yes the perm cream. Not only did I treat her, but I treated everyone of the family members that are around the baby and have any contact with her. Yes I bought the meds for all family members on both sides of the families so she wouldn't suffer. It didn't work. I even had my white carpet steam cleaned along with my sofa. Still blisters were popping up on a daily basis. The dermatologist also treated her for scabies, even though the scraping test came back negative for scabies, he wanted to treat her for them. So another perm treatment and still blisters popping up overnight.
I came to the internet for research on scabies and found this site. I read for a treatment on the critters and found the Peroxide and borax treatment. Now, I'm not sure if it was scabies or not, but my 9 month old grand-daughter sure loves me for getting rid of her itchy, red, infectious blisters on the bottoms of her feet and bosy. I used about 1/2 cup borax and 1/2 cup peroxide in as warm water as she could stand, and I soaked her in it for about 5-10 minutes once daily for 2 days. Afterwards, I let her air dry in a very warm house and left it on her for about 2 hours and then gave her a bath in olive oil soap, which I had purchased because the dermatologist said she was allergic to coconut oil. Which she is not. After the bath with theolive oil soap ($1.50 a bar), I rinsed her off with fresh water and patted her dry, and then rubbed her down with extra virgin olive oil and proceeded to pat her dry again. Her blisters are now all gone and her skin is soft without any harm to her body as those poisonous creams the doctors were prescribing for her.
An old lady probably in her 90's had mentioned to me before I came here for help about using virgin olive oil on her and all of her ailments would disappear. I was skeptical, Not anymore, Thanks old lady from wal-mart check-out line. I appreciate you and this site for the cure of my granddaughter's feet!!! I was careful to not let her get any of the bathing solution in her mouth and eyes too. She has an appointment in 2 days with the doctor and the dermatologist on the same day. I will mention this solution for whatever it was ailing my baby...

Ok my question is this, if scabies are microscopic how did you see them come crawling out of your skin after applying the oils? I was told that the only way to see scabies was on a microscope?

I filled a 10 x 14 plastic laundry basin with a half inch of full strength laundry bleach-- then stepped into it-- then I rubbed it in to my skin--it stung--small white grains of sand started to come out-- these were the larvae of the crusted scabies--i intend to repeat daily for two weeks to kill them at all stages of development--then took shower--finally I applied the second tube of the 5% permethrin cream--slept with no crawling sensation!!! At least I know that bleach will kill these critters.

Pack all layers of steps 1 through 4 all at once. This method takes care of the first treatment. It must also be maintained. I found sulfur soap for ($1.37)look on-line first because not all stores have the Hispanic isle. And Salicylic Acid for acne should help reduce the bumps that still appear after the mites die. Hope this helps!

Mix 1tsp powdered sulfur with 1tbsp melted Vaseline to make a salve. Apply frequently until scabies go away. Wash all bedding, washcloths and towels everyday with hot water to reduce possibility of reinfecting yourself or other family members. This remedy was passed down from my grandmother and my family has used it successfully for many years. Powdered sulfur can be purchased from a compounding pharmacy.

Do you mean apply all of them one right after another? or one everyday? and you said they literally crawled off? were you serious or just making a point?

In ruling out what could be causing the terrible itching that I've had for the past month I came across this website two nights ago. I was sure that I had seen Apple Cider Vinegar mentioned as one of the cures but after going thru three pages of posts tonight was unable to find Apple Cider Vinegar mentioned in anyway when talking about scabies. Does anyone know how it might be used for a cure? Have used the borax, peroxide soak three times so far and still itching almost if not as bad as I was when I realized I have scabies and have had a new outbreak in the last few minutes.

I recently treated my 8 year old son... IT WORKS! My son was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and we learned Permethrin DOES NOT WORK. So I researched for 2 days and found this website. Here is what I did:

I need help I took my 2yr old to the hospital like 4 months ago and the doctor said that she just had allergies I dint see it worsen after I put a cream on her but then I notice that I was itching alot I thought it was because I was close to giving birth its when you'r belly starts itching but then after I gave birth and was sent home with my newborn child I started itching more and then I started noticing red bumps on my body I didnt think of anything but the itching started to worsen and the bumps started spreading on my legs, my arm, my back, my bottom, and my inner thighs and my daughter started to be itching alot and I started to notice the red bumps on her she would wake up in the middle of the night crying because it itched soo much so I finally went to the emergency and the doctor told me that me , my daughter, and my 2 month old baby had scabies. They gave me permethrin cream 5% and betamethasone valerate cream and im also taking cetirizine tablets and I take me and my household two baths a day and apply all the creams but it feels like itz worsening. Please help me I cant deal with going to 5 months with this itchin it bothers and I just started working and I cant go back to work until im cured.

The runs could have been from the epsom salts, as they are magnesium, which can cause diarrhea if overdosed.

When I had scabies about 3 years back, I went to the doctor - she gave a script for premarin - after using it twice, my skin kept itching so I told the doctor and she said you will still itch even though it was gone - well I believe it so I never used anymore premarin. Needless to say, the doc was right. The scabies were gone even though I had itch for about a year then it finally stopped. Then 3 years later, I got scabies again - this time I looked on the internet for a natural cure. I found that Tree Tea Oil (about an ounce) along with Olive Oil (about 3 or 4 drops)- pour this into bath water and soak (your entire body and head) in the bathtub for about a half hour. It works but you have wash your bed sheet, etc. And clothing in hot water. Also need to clean your furniture and anything else that you touch.

I have been without symptoms of scabies for about 3 months. I had them mostly on my calf's my inside forearms also my face, eyebrows and hairline on my head. Mostly on my lower legs. My treatment was baths with one eighth cup dish soap plus one cup borax or baking soda or salt. I also used in the bath super washing soda which is something called sodium borate it is by far the strongest and can really burn. Also I used coconut oil a small amount goes a long way. And I got great results with the coconut oil or I seemed to. I would massage the coconut oil into the affected area. My recommendation start with massage coconut oil into affected areas run bath put dish soap in plus the amounts will vary baking soda up to 2 cups borax up to one and one half cups super washing soda (sodium borate) up to one cup and that is alot. Always start with a smaller amount and see how it goes.

Well bleach and water worked 4 me too, but I also used antibacterial soap with aloe and very hot hot water and soaked for about 20 minutes. The hot water open the pores of the skin, the bleach kills the nest, and the aloe cures the skin from itching. When you get out the tub you must air dry.

I've had scabies for over 2 months. I've had 3 full body treatments with permetherin cream 5% from the Dr. It didn't work for me. I also tried one of the online treatments with enzymes and oil. It got better, but didn't go away. I started that after the 1st permetherine treatment failed. The combination didn't work either. I tried the borax/epsom salt/hydrogen peroxide bath suggested above - now that seemed to work, but I think the person who mentioned it could be toxic was right. I got the runs the next morning. I kept using it and it got much worse. I started vomiting too. I think it would work, but that was way too strong for me. I missed almost a week of work recovering. I found another one online that is the enzymes only and less expensive. This one also seems to be working, but I'm not getting sick from it. There was a big difference the first time. Hopefully, I'll be able to tell you in a week or so that it's totally gone. Another tip that someone else mentioned - avoid sweets. I'm borderline diabetic and when I ate a dessert or something, I noticed they were a LOT more active, and the # of bites went up. I felt like I was being eaten alive. I stopped eating any sugar, and it went down. So, that's my experience. Good luck.

Bleach can irritate your skin even more and is probably less dangerous to the mites than other chemicals which aren't as toxic to humans. My most effective solution to this problem was to treat my dog with flea treatment that contains Imidacloprid coupled with Permethrin (only 1 or 2 brands contain these, check carefully). She sleeps on the floors, my bed, my couch, unconsciously treating my entire house, and every time I pet her I probably get exposed a little too. Then naturally, obsessively wash bedding in the hottest water possible, add an extra shower a day, change clothes as frequently as you can.

This made me smile. I recently found some raised, itchy pink bumps just under the waistline. Thinking they were heat lumps, I used some aloe vera gel. Next day, they had spread into huge, angry red welts. Used antiseptic gel and avc which eased the discomfort. The following day, the skin was broken and looked infected and felt painfully 'spiky'. I sprayed colloidal silver, tea tree oil, neem oil, castor oil, diluted h2O2. . . But each day, they worsened then yesterday, my husband said, "Oh, they're insect bites. You must be scratching them in your sleep. Spray them with very hot water in the shower. "
I did and soothed the area with tea tree oil in aloe vera gel. Today, they're recovering. I rarely get bitten so didn't recognise the lumps as bites. My husband gets bitten regularly. In fact, he was bitten in exactly the same place as me but a day earlier at work. . . Grrr
So, yes, I heartily agree with keeping infected clothes separate from other people!

I joined just to help.
I'm not sure what I had but I thought it was scabies. Instead of going to the doctors and having them tell me their not sure what type of rash I have,
I treated myself for the worst possibility. I tried a lot of things, citrus oil, a little neem, vasiline, borax etc.
What I found is this:
1) use really hot water with a removal shower head and spray all affected areas. I would do this twice a day.
2) use Tea Tree Soap after spraying the affected areas.
3) I used a Tea Tree ointment after showering all over my body.
4) Wash or soak all clothing and bedding everyday in hot water until all signs of scabbies is gone. Add about a cup of borax to the water. The reason for washing your clothing everyday is scabbies are mites and they spread.
You should also vacuum carpets, spray vinegar water on chairs that you've used. Place all possibly contaminated clothing or bedding in plastic bags until you wash them.
I found that hot water works the best. The more hot water the better. You can see the bite areas start to heal the next day. The itching stops almost immediately. It takes a while for the bites to actually go away but you will see new bites stop appearing and you will notice a difference in the color of the bites.
The soap and ointment assist the hot water treatments.The nice thing about using a removable spray head is that you can reach every part of your body.
I just wanted to share my experience with others to help you relieve you problem the quickest way possible.
Try it! It worked for me. And it is cheap. Lol

Tea tree oil really works on scabies! I had tried just about everything over a 3 month period and finally relief!!! I applied it to the itchy parts a few times a day and at bedtime and it took a few days to calm down and maybe 10 days to completely cure. I still had lots of scarring and weird patches over most of my body. I treated these with lavender oil and they cleared up like magic! So don't give up - there is relief!

If you have these creepy crawling things in your skin, believe me, washing everything over and over will be something you are willing to do to get rid of them!!!! Good Luck. We are still fighting. Antibacterial Soap

I just wanted to add a few more details to my previous post. I unfortunately got reinfected by mistakenly putting on a wool sweater that hadn't been washed. It is just so easy to keep getting this. Diligence and complete daily discipline to cleanliness are the only solutions.
Also, I found that having scabies really drained me of energy. My body was doing its best to fight it off, but it was exhausting and deprived me of any motivation. These beasties know how to make their host weak. I think it is important to know that so that you can fight it mentally when you are tired physically. You must get up and do that laundry, eat well, clean your body, no matter how hard it feels.
I have now managed to get rid of this horrid pest, but the residual itch still freaks me out occasionally.
Also I wanted to say that the 5% permethrin cream did work, but for a couple of days it felt like it didn't work and in fact made me feel like things were even worse. The orange essential oil has been a godsend also. I still put it on and in my bath just out of comfort because it definitely helps and calms me down at the same time.
You CAN get rid of this thing. But it may take a few repeated treatments over a few months as it did for me. I wish you all the best.

apply liberaly from chin and back of head from within the hairline, down to soles of feet 5 nights straight. hit your eyebrows and bearded areas too.
repeat this process every other week if itching persists until itching is gone (you have to understand how to clean your environment also)
natural, inexpensive and soothing. this worked for me and was like a miracle. good luck!

Antibacterial Soap

Antibacterial soap was a good help for hands and other exposed areas. I did not get red bumps on my hands at any time during my scabies outbreak. It also made me feel a little more secure knowing that the scabies was less likely to be passed along after I had washed my hands with antibacterial soap.
WASH HANDS OFTEN!
Some other things I did were:
- I used permethrin. Although it didn't completely work, it did lessen the problem slightly giving me an edge on it. I did two treatments overall in three weeks
- I washed everything I touched/wore with 1/2 cup borax and the regular amount of laundry detergent in hot water. I then dried clothing bone dry (very important).
- I kept clean laundry in separate containers from all other clothing and only used clean clothes. This may mean that you will end up washing everything in your wardrobe eventually, but it's better than having scabies.
- I put anything that couldn't be washed in the freezer for a minimum of 4 days or you could dry clean. I live remotely, so that's not possible here.
- I did not wear clothing more than once and changed sheets/pillow cases daily being very careful in how I handled everything, gloves are a good idea. Consider anything unwashed as toxic and deal with it accordingly.
- I did not sit on any soft furniture for minimally 3 weeks, I sprayed it with bleach water and covered it with diotamaceous earth. If you must use yours, try to sterilize it then cover it with a fresh sheet and change that regularly. I don't have a vacuum, so I will wait to deal with it when I believe all scabies are dead. I am only sitting on vinyl or wooden chairs at the moment.
- You may hear that scabies live for only up to 72 hours, but I think it is a good idea to assume they can live for up to 3-4 weeks and proceed accordingly. It's better to be safe than reinfect yourself the way I did.
- I disinfected bathroom and other surfaces every time I used them - don't forget the toilet seat, hard chairs, computer, telephone, driver's wheel, books, etc. Wipe down anything you touch regularly, even being careful with the toilet paper. Remember, everything you touch is a potential site for reinfection
- I covered my mattress with a plastic sheet which I sprayed down daily with bleach and let dry. I also sprinkled diotamaceous earth on it before sleeping there. In the morning I would remove all bedding and put it directly into the laundry basket and then go clean myself.
- I slept just with a sheet and a hot water bottle to ease laundry woes.
- I turned the heat up in the house. It helps with drying out the critters and also lets you wear less clothing, therefore less laundry
- I made a spray bottle with water and used a mixture of at least 3 essential oils: peppermint, citronella, tea tree, eucalyptus, oregano, neem oils (approximately 20 drops of each to a regular sized spray bottle). The ones most recommended for scabies are: tea tree, neem, orange, citronella, lavender, ginger, or black pepper. I just used what I could get.
- I bathed twice a day with approx. 10-20 drops of tea tree oil in my bath. make sure you soak your hair and head as well.
- I covered my skin and even my hair with diotomaceous earth at night before sleeping. I just sprinkled it on and rubbed it in while being careful not to breathe it in.
- I washed floors at least twice a day with bleach or vinegar water and also sprinkled diotamaceous earth around the floors.
- I rolled up and put outside all carpets. I will deal with these in a few weeks by sprinkling with diotamaceous earth, leaving them for a couple of days and then shaking them out, or preferably, vacuuming them. I will then wipe them down with bleach water or essential oils.
- Steam cleaning is recommended for carpets and furniture, but i don't have access, so I have to resort to other ways
- I sprinkled diotamaceous earth in my shoes and also sprayed them with essential oil mix or bleach water
- I also sprayed down all coats or put them in a hot dryer for 20 min
- I sprayed down curtains and anything i touched, ie light switches regularly
- I always wore clean socks and tried to keep all my skin covered to prevent reinfection from my environment ie long sleeves, long pants, long, thick socks
- I have been drinking 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar daily in order to alkaline my body, other suggestions are green tea, neem tablets, 8 glasses of water a day with a few drops of peppermint oil, cloves, garlic, onions
- I put neem oil cream or tea tree oil directly on my body wherever i felt an itch and at night I would use it all over my body.
- stay away from eating sugar
- take magnesium/calcium supplements
I have been EXTREMELY DILIGENT with all of this and it seems to be working. It has been a few days now of being pretty much symptom free. Wish me luck! I wish you luck. Enzymes for Scabies

To those of you who think mites cannot be transferred between humans and animals, I'm sorry, they can. We got our initial infection from some chickens-not a scabies mite, but a rat mite according to the lab at University of Texas who tested ours. There appears to be some mis-labeling due to the spread of different kinds of mites. Also, keep in mind that your local vets and docs do not know how to deal with the unknown mites- they are only used to what their books tell them. You cannot see them without the aid of bi-focal glasses a good magnifying glass. This type of rat mite lived in some washed blankets I had stored in my huge closet for over a year! When we got them out the next winter,we were all itching like mad in less than 30 min. and had to get up, strip everything and take a shower. They have killed my mom's parrot (ate thru his ears into his brain), and my sister's dog (infested a cat bite in his throat and the vet said it looked like a tumor, only 2 months after the bite). When my mom got tested, they sliced a piece of her infected abdomen skin. Under the microscope it only looked like many bits and pieces of mites, but mites. We infected our 4 pomeranians, even tho the vet said they could not get them as they were taking Revolution treatment once a month. We do not have scabies, according to the books, but it looks like scabies. Its itches like scabies, and it spreads rapidly. On the dogs, it looks like mange around the eyes and mouth. If I had not had two adult males in denial, I could have already rid myself of them. Ps, I am currently taking 2 tsp of curry powder each day to keep them from biting me as I am extremely allergic and break out badly. If I get into an infested area, they will get on and crawl around and itch a little until I go shower them off with borax and H Pero. At least I am sleeping nights and no more sores, boils, infected areas. I am taking curry because it has a high concentration of turmeric and was all I had around the house. Started working after the second day. One website for spices said turmeric has been used topically (on the skin) for scabies. Best Wishes, and thank you Ted for your kind advice.
