Niacin

I tried numerous suggestions from Earthclinic and other sites to stop hair loss and none helped, but happily found something simple that works.
While searching for hair loss treatment shampoos I found many pleased with Argan oil, but that seems to be a fad now and the $30.00+ price tag, to me, supports that. I kept searching and discovered Niacin and caffeine shampoo by OGX (sold online and at Ulta Beauty stores) for $7.00. They also carry a conditioner with same active ingredients plus I found a $3.50 off coupon if I spent $10.00.
I thought, why don't I just take some niacin (not niacinamide)? There was a partial bottle of 250 mg niacin with 125 mg calcium I had for lowering cholesterol, I believe. After taking one per day for just 2 days my hair loss stopped. This is what I am taking same brand/dosage but mine is not the prolonged release just plain old niacin and calcium: http://www.swansonvitamins.com/21st-century-niacin-250-mg-110-tabs (and NOT the advanced formula either. they sure like to mess with stuff).
I didn't buy online, but from the corner pharmacy.
Previously, after running my hand through my hair I would find 5 or more hairs in my hand every time and all day finding hair fallout on the clothes I was wearing, in the sink etc. and a massive amount after washing my hair.
I have a disclaimer. I was taking Armour Thyroid and thought that was the hair loss culprit so I switched to Nutri-Pak Thyroid (get online) which has the same exact active ingredients and dosage per 130 mg pill as the armour 120 mg pill. I switched only 2 days before taking the niacin. (I phoned my doctor's office and told them I'm doing it so they would have on record.) I could not determine if that made a difference and I have often read that the thyroid med stays in one's system for days or longer.
I believe the niacin is what helped and am interested in knowing if taking niacin to reverse hair loss will help others. My Google searches support the benefits of niacin for hair, skin and circulation.

Hi, I have been using Black castor oil since March of this year but I think the results are good. my hair has gotten fuller, I have mixed in a bit of olive oil into it as it makes the consistency less thick.

Food grade diatomaceous earth for hair loss! Start with a tsp and mix into smoothies, oatmeal, mashed potatoes or even water, juice or tea/coffee. Work your way up to a TBSP. LOTS of vitamins/minerals and a great detoxer.

I am a licensed beauty professional as well. ACV is not what made Mary's hair fall out, it was most certainly the peroxide. But I will say, unless it is a conditioner, I don't recommend leaving any product on overnight. Everyones skin is different, including your scalp, and will react different. Also, vinegars are cleaning agents, as are baking sodas...mixing these products together is essentially stripping the hair of anything. Salons use baking soda to strip the hair. ACV is a great product, but should not be applied to the hair in full strength (more is not better in this case). In fact, (I did not see it so I cannot be sure) but I would be willing to bet that Mary's hair did not fall out, but actually broke off. Am I saying not to use it, absolutely not, I love ACV, I use it all the time...use it in moderation...equal parts with water, do not leave it in overnight.

Dear Sue,
Castor Oil has been used by many to help with hair growth. I try to do this once a month and it seems to have made a difference for me, though it has taken some time to be noticeable.
About once a month, I put castor oil (cold pressed or expeller pressed, hexane free) on my scalp. I use a small squeeze bottle and apply the oil to just my scalp and massage it into my scalp. I wrap my head in a towel and leave it over night. In the morning, I wash my hair twice.
Some use Black Castor Oil the same way.

Hi,
I'm in my fifties now but experienced major hair loss from my late 20's to my early forties. After a lot of research (supplements, OTC treatments, doctors, naturopaths, articles) I came to realize that hair fall for most men and women comes from the after affects of Candida and leaky gut syndrome. Sugar of all types (even fruits) accelerates it. The candida/leaky gut comes from too many antibiotics and not enough Probiotics to clean up the mess that they leave and/or simply eating very poorly and causing bacteria proliferation in different pockets in the gut over a period of years.
Try this if you're losing hair in the shower-
FAST for 24 -48 hours on water or broth. NO SUGAR. If your hairfall diminishes significantly or completely then your answer is there.

I have been losing hair for the last several years and I am slowly balding. I started taking a coconut oil supplement lately and hope it will help. I stopped using iodized salt several years ago too. Could doing this create an iodine deficiency? Also, I use to eat shrimp quite often, but have eaten very little in the last couple of years.

WARNING!
Today's crude oil is very different and would be corrosive to the skin, the eyes and more delicate areas. This was discussed some time ago on EC.
Just ask people who have been overcome in oil spills. In short, please research first. Fifty years ago many things were harmless in comparison.

If you go to the Foxfire book, volume 3, there is an old folk remedy that my father used - burnt car oil, on dogs who had skin conditions. Dad used it on several dogs back in the late 60's and 70's. The dogs would stop itching and their hair would grow out. Back then, the dogs ran all over the place....country life. We didn't have money or resources so, the Foxfire book was the go-to for old time remedies and cures. This oil method always worked for the dogs. My point? Edgar Cayce's crude oil treatment most probably works very well for hair loss. Good luck!
Accutane-Related Hairloss Remedies

I've recetly started taking Diatomaceous Earth for my joints but read up on it first and was surprised at how many other things it clears up; parasites, hair, nails, blood pressure AND ACNE. Plus more.
I hope Nickodactyl reads this 'cos I think he's getting carried away with the science. Remember Occams Razor; simpler is best. You've been tackling the symptoms rather than the cause which is what most doctors do. Spots on the face, or anywhere, is the body telling us to take care of it. We've all got toxins and parasites and imbalances so chucking a pharmacoepia of supplements at it ain't going to fix it or lengthen your telomeres unless you clean it up first.
And you should NEVER screw around with hormones!!!! I've had thyroid problems and you don't want that, I can assure you. I never took contraceptive pills but there are probably thousands/millions of women out there who are experiencing a myriad problems because they did. They were the easy option, of course, and I guess you thought, when you used Accutane, that would be too. We are all prone to the temptation of the quick fix or instant gratification, particularly at eighteen. Been ther - done that. My Gran used to say - Lazy people take the most pains. - and it's true.
If you are still reading, first do a cleanse, then eat what is most nourishing with good protein for the hair and for vitamins and minerals do juicing. And try the diatomacious earth; tasteless, cheap and easy.
Nickie
PS. When your hair grows back, please wear it long or longish. Hair does so much for a guy. Michael Bolton is rubbish now.

Acupressure on Nails

I have had hair loss due to fungus. I read a book on hand reflexology about rapidly rubbing the fingernails across one another (face the 4 fingers toward each other, then rapidly buff against one another, hands going in opposite directions--up & down, or back & forth) to prevent hair loss and cause it to grow back. 5 minutes, 3 times a day. Since I have a delicate condition in my neck and can't handle the jarring, I use a hand massager, and set my fingernails, one hand at a time, on it. My hair is now growing back, although I have to keep it up every day, so I am also beginning to try the ACV also. I'm not usually on this site, so I may not respond to questions. The reflexology book is very old--can't remember author's name. Hope this helps.

An incredible benefit of drinking wheatgrass (the juice powder) is that it has made my hair incredibly smooth, silky, and fuller than it ever has been before. I was thinking it may help those who are suffering from hair loss. I noticed a difference in my fine hair right away.
Onion Juice

In 2002 The Journal of Dermatology had a study on the use of Onion Juice for hair growth in Alopecia Subjects. 80% of subjects grew hair within a week of using onion juice as a treatment. The allicin in the onion actually stimulates the hair follicle and pulls the blood supply up to the follicle roots encouraging growth. You just take basic dutch onions and put them in a blender, puree to a juice, can take out the pulp if you wish. Massage mixture into the scalp before bed, put a shower cap over it at night while you sleep. In the morning rinse off. This remedy also works for male pattern baldness. You can google this study. Also use till you have the desired length of hair and then use once a week for maintenance.

Hair Loss: The remedies that have helped my hair grow faster, thicker, and shinier are herbal teas (all different types! Most of them work! ), Glutathione capsules and nebulized, but the capsules alone also work to help my hair despite the fact that Glutahione generally has a low oral absorption rate. MSM is great, too for hair growth. There is a ton of info on the internet about these remedies. You just have to research and try for yourself.
Accutane-Related Hairloss Remedies

Same exact thing happened to me. Accutane definitely causes hair loss, among hundreds of more serious and even deadly consequences. Do NOT even consider taking Accutane! It is not worth it! There are tons of natural supplements and dietary changes you can make (like eliminating high fructose sugars like in fruit jucies, and dairy products from cows). Sorry to get this topic off track.
Onion Juice

Onion juice will regrow hair. The Allicin in the onion juice stimulates follicle growth and draws blood supply up to the root. Blend one medium onion in a blender, you can add 2 tbs honey and tbs olive oil. Put into a squirt bottle. Massage onto your scalp before bed and wear shower cap, wash off in morning. There was a study in Journal of Dermatology, 80% of subjects showed hair growth within one week. You can use nightly until you get the amount of growth desired and then use once a month for maintenance.

WOW Borax. I would try it but I use baking soda already and it has made my hair grow full! Can't see that huge spot that has been there since I was a teen! Sounds like borax would have been good too. If I'm out of one I can always get the other out. Thanks for info.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Hydrogen Peroxide
Posted by Mellberg (Co) on 11/04/2013
I'm sorry for your experience, however I would like to make a few notes. I am a licensed hair professional and it was not the apple cider that made your hair fall out, it was the peroxide. I wouldn't necessarily recommend ACV for a hair rinse regularly. I do use it on myself and have never had a problem with it. However, leaving peroxide on the scalp will cause breakage. It's a shame that you are having to deal with this issue because hair loss is such a delicate issue. Please look into a deep conditioning treatment which will help to preserve your hair and prevent further damage due to the peroxide.
Best wishes.

Drugs of any knd will destroy your liver and cause many side effects. If you want beautiful hair and skin just simplify your life and diet. Eat fruit, veggies, nuts, seeds and beans. Lots of water. Your body needs nutrients and you can't get those from pills or creams. Coconut oil is very good for your hair and skin and so is carrot juice. Flood your body with live juice and carrot is the best. Try to find organic if you can. Peace and love to all.....
