Selenium, Coconut Oil

Selenium has reversed my hair loss. My hair started thinning in college. I'm now 41 years old. I used to have very thick, luxurious hair. But over the years, my part just got wider and wider and my ponytail smaller and smaller. Then in Jan 2009, I started taking selenium (1000 mcg) to reduce skin spots. Over the course of only a few months, I noticed my part filling in.

At first I thought it was my imagination because I didn't dare get my hopes up, but I kept taking the selenium. Now after a little over a year, I have a significant amount of hair so that my scalp doesn't show anymore. I also take B-complex 50 mg x4 and folic acid 800 mcg x 3. I've recently reduced the amount of selenium to 600 mcg since I noticed my nails flaking which is a sign that there may be too much selenium in the system. I also use coconut oil to moisturize my hair. I leave the coconut oil in my hair overnight and wash my hair in the morning. I do this a few times per week on alternating days. The other days, I use ACV as a rinse. I mix half cup of ACV with half cup of water to make the rinse. I pour this in my hair at the start of my shower and then rinse it out when I'm done showering. My hair is now healthy and shiny.

This reply to Laurie from Sudbury...

I used a combination of Biotine, Vegitil Silica, and Chelated Zinc to stop hair loss and regrow natural coloured hair on my head last fall.

A couple of points...
1...the Biotine I used was capsules of 5,000 mcg each. Possibly your 300 mcg caps are not enough for this purpose. Has the hair loss cause been removed?

2...the hair on the crown of your head grows an average of 1/2 inch per month, so if the rest of your nutrition is adequate, you should start seeing some fuzz on the previously bald areas at the 4 to 6 week point.

Hopefully this answers some of your questions.

Cayenne Pepper and Aloe Vera

Hello, I apologize for the late response. The first week, open one capsule of Cayenne Pepper, wet your hair a little, empty the capsule where you want hair growth and then add Aloe Vera on top of it. The amount of Aloe Vera will depend on how much hair you have. You will want to use Aloe Vera to "spread" the pepper. The gel also helps to prevent hair loss as well. The first week will be painful. Keep in hair for about 20mins, rinse it off with cool or cold water, and do not rub your eyes with your fingers as your eyes will burn.

It will burn for about 15-20mins later after you rinse off. Put on your hair for 2-3x/week. Week 2 should be not too bad as it will not burn as much. In about 2-3 weeks, you should notice some hair growth if you do it regularly. Also, on week 2 or 3, increase dosage to two capsules and keep increasing it to however you can handle. I hope this helps. My hair has helped a lot due to this remedy!! It forces blood to your scalp and cleans whatever it needs to (like Acupuncture except this remedy is a little painful at first).

EC: Thanks for the update!

Edgar Cayce's Hair Loss Remedies

I am female, 58 years old, and I always had thin, fine hair that became thinner as I got older until you could easily see my scalp throught the hair in the front and the crown of my head. About 3 years ago, I started using Pennsylvania crude oil per Edgar Cayce's protocol and I am still amazed as my hair just gets thicker every month; new growth is constant. I have never had hair like this, even as a child. I was always self-conscious about my hair (vanity?)and used any means possible to make it look thicker; perms, coloring, teasing. I feel great about the way my hair looks for the first time ever (I can remember sending nightly prayers as a child for pretty hair). I just want to tell everyone I see with thinning hair about it! I don't very often, though, unless asked. I have told several hairdressers so that they could share it with their customers; suprisingly, only one of them showed any interest. There are about 6 recommended steps to the protocol, including an herbal tonic and massaging with petroleum jelly. I started with just the petroleum jelly for financial reasons, and I saw rapid improvement in just a few weeks. Then I added the crude oil and the herbal tonic and I have been using those three since then. I use the oil followed by the petroleum jelly once a week and the tonic once a day. The instructions on his site are clear and you can also see the products if you look on his website for companies who make and sell products made with Edgar Cayce formulas. I had to write because I have used many remedies from this website and I am very grateful that you are here, all of you!! Namaste.

Joyce's Remedies

Hello Deirdre,

I have been visiting my favorites since answering Cindy's email and thought I would give you some information found to pass on to all EC'ers with hair loss problems. I will e-mail you the articles I gleaned the information from in case you want to read them afterwards, but I will give a short shot of helpful hints that I think will be all that most of our EC family will want. Going to the plant database I found several chemicals listed as anti-alopecics (anti-baldness).

They are linoleic acid, palmitic acid, inositol, oleic acid, linoleic acid and zinc.

Zinc is found in meats, seafoods, dairy products, nuts, legumes, whole grains and you'll even find 23 parts per million of zinc in turmeric or curcumin, and 13-17 parts per million in the coconut. If you take zinc supplements it is recommended that you not take more than 50 mgm. per day and stay with zinc gluconate as it consistently holds the lowest amount of cadmium which naturally occurs with it. (Cadmium is that toxic metal in the news now because it is being found in children's and adult jewelry made in India and China). Zinc has many other functions besides preventing hair loss, but this what we are concerned with today. You can easily search them on line to learn the others.

Inositol is "vital for hair growth", also combines with choline to form lecithin and reduces cholesterol. It's calming effect on the nervous system is thought to have an effect on depression, panic attacks obsessive-compulsive disorder and bipolar affective disorder (used to be called manic-depressive disorder), plays a role in preventing and treating cancer, improves nerve conduction velocity in diabetics, and used in constipation therapy by improving peristalti action. Inositol is found in dried beans, calves liver, cantaloupes, citrus fruits (except for lemons), garbanzo beans (chick peas), lecithin granules, nuts, oats, pork, rice, veal and whole grains. The resin, exudate and sap of the coconut palm has 690 parts per million of inositol.

The coconut (seed) also has 584-18,694 parts per million of another anti-alopecic chemical called linoleic acid. Our lovely, tasty coconut also has 770 parts per million of magnesium in its seed which adds another long list of anti-chemicals to this coconut. The coconut hull husk also has lignin 294,000 parts per million which is antibacterial, anticancer, anticoronary, anti-diarrheic, anti-HIV, antioxidant, antitumor, antiviral, chelator, hypocholesterolemic, laxative, and pesticide. Over consumption of caffeine products (carbonated beverage drinkers may be getting more than the coffee drinkers) or prolonged taking of antibiotics can decrease the body's supply of inositol.

Fatty acids in foods are incoporated into complex lipids such as triglycerides, cholesterol esters, and phospholipids. Our bodies can synthesize some fatty acids in adipose tissue and the liver. It cannot synthesize some essential fatty acids: linoleic acid (Omega 6) or alpha-linoleic acid (Omega 3). Both Omega 3 and Omega 6 are found in vegetable oils like corn and canola. Walnuts are also a good source of alpha-linoleic acid.

Pork has 40% saturated fatty acids (SFA)
45% monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA)
15% polyunsaturated faty acids (PUFA)
Olive Oil has 14% SFA
74% MUFA
12% PUFA

Good old avocados are also rich in antialopecics. So to all of you who want more hair, improve your diets and if necessary, supplement with the above nutrients.

Hello Ted, I was reading your remedies for hair loss and use of Maganese Sulfate. I couldn't find it @ Vitaminshoppe, they had all other kind of Maganese but not sulfate. Also, on the internet I read that Maganese Sulfate is harmful if swallowed.

Absorption of inorganic manganese salts through the lungs is poor but may occur in chronic poisoning.

Blackstrap Molasses, Biotin
Posted by Vm (Dayton, Ohio) on 01/01/2010

I have had great success with black strap molasses and later biotin in regenerating my thinning hair. I am a 58 yo female and noticed my hair thinning on top of my head.

I started taking 1 to 3 Tbl molasses and my hair started filling in and getting thicker.

Later I started taking biotin from 1000 mcg to 3000 mcg a day and it also helped my hair get thicker.

Both the biotin and molasses separately help my hair grow. I took molasses for about 6 months and quit taking it and then started in on the biotin for around 3 months and have hair that is about 2 1/2 inches long. I part my hair in the middle and there is new growth about 2 1/2 inches long all over my head but most noticable where I part my hair as the new growth is all the same length and the rest of my hair is shoulder length. My hair also does not fall out like it used to.

Both products worked.

Thanks Juliette, I will do just that - I have cold pressed coconut oil. I'll mix it and try again. I have female hair loss on the front top of my hair. I just started a week ago to wash with borax and consume a tea spoon of the coconut oil. I've been taking Apple Cider Vinegar and Blackstrap Molasses and honey for 3 weeks now and I love it. I love EC and all of you. To come across this website has been a great blessing.

WARNING!

I am an aromatherapist - please never use undiluted essential oils on your skin or hair; they can burn (as you now know!) If you want to try the lemon grass oil again, dilute it in a carrier oil - anything you have around the house will do, the carrier oil will also have benefits so try to use a cold pressed, unrefined oil. A good rule of thumb is about 6 drops to a tablespoon full of oil. Essential oils are wonderful in healing, but they need respect - I should know - I still sometimes burn myself if I add too much basil oil to the bath; more is not always better!

I found lemongrass oil in whole food store in the oil essentials section. Tried to use it on my scalp (for thinning hair) a few drops and BOY Oh BOY! it burned my scalp so much I couldn't even hold it for 2 minutes. I had to jump in the show and wash it off.

It's weird, how some people post here and you never hear from them again.

EC: Yep, we googled this extensively too. We're guessing it's lemongrass oil. If you google "lemongrass for hair loss" you will see it mentioned on several websites.

Grass Oil

I am surprised this is not mentioned or known about much.

To cure hair loss and have hair regrowth, the Bedouin here use grass oil (like normal grass in your garden turned into oil... it is a very thick oil.. just a bit thicker than olive oil sometimes as thick, if you get one that is watery know you have been cheated and its mixed with water or other things)

It is so effective I am 26 years old and I could never grow a full goatee ( always wanted one :P ) so I used it for about a week on the empty area and hair grew where none was!

To use it on the head apply daily or once every other day with good enough amount to spread over your scalp and massage it in leave it in from 4 to 6 hours for about a month should be enough to notice real difference... I am not kidding this thing is WORTH the trouble, we don't have many scientists in this country if we did and they studied this i am SURE they would have extracted what ever is in there that makes it work so damn well and cured baldness already.

Warning though this stuff is green and it drips so make sure you don't stain your cloths :) but i promise you this is one mess you wont regret :D

EC: Hi Zk85. Is there another name for this grass oil? We see that citronella, lemongrass, and palmarosaessential oils areeach made from grass. However, lemongrass oil isthe one we seelisted asbeing manufacturedin Saudi Arabia.

Pine Tar Soap
Posted by Angie (South Pasadena, California) on 12/04/2009

WARNING!

Dear All: I wrote a few months ago that pine tar soap helped less hair fall out in the shower. That was true for a long time. Unfortunately though, after a few months I believe it has caused the clinical sebborheic dermatitis I now suffer from. This has only exacerbated my hair loss much further. So, I would try organic fragrance free shampoo and conditioner for hair loss in shower instead. I've read that sulfates found in most commercial shampoos can worsen hair loss and scalp conditions. Good luck all, I'm going to be tested for iodine deficiency because of things I've read on this site. Angie

Yes, this is a well-known remedy for hair-loss in Romania - boil a handful of nettles for a few minutes and use that water (while still warm) to wash your hair. You may want to keep the mixture in your hair for a few minutes, then wash it out. Do this at least twice a week.

You can apply the coconut oil to your scalp when it's dry, let it absorb for about an hour or two and then get into shower. You do not need to use the conditioner after shampoo. Coconut oil is a very good conditioner too.

On the other hand, you can eat/drink two to three spoonfuls everyday. But, I believe doing both is a sure shot way.

Saw Palmetto
Posted by T (Maryland, Usa) on 11/06/2009

Hi Al,

Everything I know about hair loss is pretty much in that post above ;) Your regular doctor can order you a ferritin blood test, or you can order one yourself online through various places. If I may say the name here, I have personally used HealthCheck USA online a few times for various bloodwork. It's a very fast and easy service and totally legit. You get the blood drawn at the same labs the doctors send you to (like LabCorp); the only difference is that it's WAY cheaper than going through the doc if you're uninsured and paying out of pocket as I was, and the results go to you directly.

Assuming by your name that you are male, if you do end up needing to supplement with iron due to low ferritin levels, get rechecked periodically to ensure your levels don't go too high.

The foot fungus and allergy issues you mentioned - have you looked into candida? That could possibly contribute to hair loss as well. There's a lot of info here on EC about candida.

Good luck!

The baby cannot get too much iron from the mother's breastmilk as iron levels in breastmilk are not effected by the mother's iron intake, even if she is anemic. The brown streaks could be caused by a number of things including tartar buildup, which caused significant brown staining on my oldest son's two lower front teeth. I would recommend the mother schedule an appt with a pediatric dentist for a checkup and teeth cleaning.

Brushing Technique
Posted by Kindee (Southbridge, Massachusetts) on 09/23/2009
★★★★★

I tried this brushing technique for hair loss and noticed a difference within a couple weeks. I really had my doubts, but truthfully I feel that nowadays I have less hairs falling than I ever have.

I always had really thick hair which I took for granted but over the past few years it had been shedding at a more and more rapid pace. It began to look thin, and I had a handful of maybe fifteen hairs nearly every time I ran my hand through it. Naturally I was panicked and self conscious at the age of 23, but was reluctant to use certain topical drugs and other unnatural "remedies." Since starting this technique once a day or every other day, along with decreasing my shampooing to two times a week (three max), my hair has looked great! Shiny, full, and I've had several unrelated unsolicited comments from people I know about the difference they noticed.

All I do is flip my head over and use a boar's bristle brush over all my hair until it's brushed (sometimes this requires pre-combing if it's knotted), making sure not to put pressure on the scalp, and I can feel the follicles being stimulated. Flip back over, brush it all down, and viola, treatment over.

No more clogged drains, no more hairy brush. I also quit eating beef; I wonder if this had anything to do with it? Either way, now I'm grateful for the hairs in my head, even though they're turning gray. Thank you earth clinic.

re: your dandruff, There may be triggers in your diet that could be causing the dandruff. For me coffee is a culprit. Fairly consistent in that a few days after a cup I will have flaking. I like to make up a tea of Rooibos & Peppermint & sometimes Nettles (though nettles are a diuretic). It seems to have a balancing, & hydrating effect & eliminates the dandruff.

this from Wiki...

Rooibos is purported to assist with nervous tension, allergies and digestive problems.[6] Traditional medicinal uses of rooibos in South Africa include alleviating infantile colic, allergies, asthma and dermatological problems.[7][8]

Okay, the iodine doesn't seem to be working as well for the dandruff anymore...still working, just not as miraculously. About a week ago I had a massive outbreak of flakes on the top of my head near my hairline. Having read that milk of magnesia is great for skin & itching, I impulsively doused that area, left it on for about 1/2 an hour, then rinsed it out--without using shampoo or conditioner, to make sure nothing else affected my "experiment". My hair felt like it was full of glue and baby powder (washed out fine the next day), but it seems that Milk of Magnesia really helps the dead skin slough off!!! I had to brush out lots of flakes but since then my scalp has been pretty clear, and much less itchy.

I also patted some Milk of Magnesia on my face and let it dry. My skin was SO soft afterwards, for days, and a couple of rough rashy patches are cleared up!

Hair Loss From Hypothyroidism

Hi, I am 37 years old. I started losing hair at age 20. Lost most of it due to hypothyroidism. Now I eat a well balanced diet and take thyroid medication. I have started seeing little thin hair, but they don't grow more than that. Is there any thing I can use to increase the blood circulation and thicken these thin hair. And will I ever have full head of hair again? Plz. help.

YEA for biotin (hair loss)
YEA for iodine & borax (dandruff)

After the birth of my son 15 years ago, I had more hair loss every time I brushed or washed my hair than I had ever had before. I always had long, almost waist-length, thick hair. After the birth, I became so distressed over the thinning, dryness, & split ends that I cut my hair to chin-length. I kept trying to grow it long but every few years "chopped" it again due to split ends. My hair is medium-coarse and never seemed thin to people who cut my hair but I could tell the difference.

About a year ago I started taking biotin. I take 5mg per day, and I get a bottle of 300 capsules (10 months' supply) for $12, so this is a very affordable, no fuss remedy! It took a month or two to notice a real difference, but my hair loss became minimal. My hair is now so thick, and has grown past my shoulder blades for the first time in 15 years! Also, there are very few split ends--even though this doesn't make much sense, as only the new growth would be affected by the biotin, but it's true (a few months ago I bought some very sharp scissors and trimmed my split ends, but they haven't come back). And my hair is growing a little faster; it used to grow no more than 1/2 inch per month (I color my hair 3-4 times per year, and occasionally measure) and now it is growing almost 1 inch per month.

Another hair problem I had for about 20 years was dandruff. This started when I was 16. I tried many, many supplements, diet changes and topical remedies over the years with no results (except for a liquid zinc treatment for excema--this helped but didn't cure). I eventually tried a dandruff shampoo, which would give me relief for no more than 24 hours. I really didn't want to do this, but if I didn't I would actually get scabs in addition to incessant itching & painful inflammation.

A few weeks ago I bought a "liquid kelp" iodine supplement, took a dropperful twice a day in water and within 48 HOURS I had ZERO FLAKES! This is after 20 years of discomfort, self-consciousness, and not being able to wear black or use nicer shampoos! I recently found another supplement that has 150mcg iodine per drop, and I take 2-3 drops per day.

About 2-3 weeks after starting the iodine, I had a VERY slight return of the dandruff. But now I am not using dandruff shampoo at all. I shampoo, douse my scalp with a borax solution (1-2 tablespoons in 2 cups of water), let that sit for a couple of minutes, then condition. My scalp is super clean, I can go several days without shampooing (when I had the dandruff I had to shampoo every other day), and my hair seems softer & less frizzy.

Red Raspberry Tea, Kelp
Posted by Noelle (Minneapolis, Mn, Usa) on 08/23/2009

Lorraine: There should not be any reason why you can't use Red Raspberry Leaf tea. I don't think it affects the thyroid per se. It just fixes some of the problems caused by hormone imbalance, and adds minerals and B vitamins that might be depleted due to glands not functioning properly. It's the kelp that affects the thyroid and stops hair fallout cold. Raspberry Leaf grows the hair and makes it shiny.

As for my adrenal problem, it's not entirely fixed. Underlying infections can pull adrenal function down. I had a huge double abscess tooth removed last year, but I was disappointed that my energy did not increase. I seem to be carrying a virus that we cannot identify and have allergies that occasionally fog my head so much I walk into walls. (Claritin-D cuts that one right quick!) I was tested by a hematologist for everything they could think of. Allopathically, my bloodwork was normal. I ran the results by a naturopath: two indicators pointed to either parasites or low iron or both. Nobody seems to want to believe I have parasites! I'm currently using Bill Munro's H2O2 inhalation method. Its been two weeks; my energy is a little better, but I'm not seeing spectacular results yet. So . . . I'm still working on it!

Saw Palmetto
Posted by T (Baltimore, Md, USA) on 08/22/2009

Hair loss can be hormonally or nutritionally caused, or possibly medicinally or environmentally caused, or a combination of any/all of these. Figuring out why you're losing hair will help you determine your own course of action. That said, here's a few observations.

Herbals for hormonal causes - I don't personally recall seeing that saw palmetto shouldn't be taken by women, but I've read that it can *potentially* cause weight gain. If that's a concern, an alternative to try could be nettle root and pygeum. And take with lysine, as lysine has been shown to boost the effectiveness of DHT blockers. Ensure adequate zinc intake as zinc is also a DHT blocker, but keep in mind that it is very important to balance zinc with copper (2mg copper to every 30mg of zinc).

Nutritional - Top of the list in my opinion is to have your ferritin levels checked, particularly as low ferritin is common in thyroid problems, which you mentioned having. Ferritin is the stored iron in the body, and is present in hair follicles. You can actually have normal serum iron but low ferritin, so it's the ferritin you want checked for this. Low ferritin can result in hair loss, and if you're low you won't successfully regrow much no matter what you do until the levels are improved. Ferritin levels should be at least 70-90. I wouldn't suggest iron supplementation until you know your status for sure (especially for men), as excess iron can be dangerous. In your diet, have some orange juice or something with vitamin C in it when consuming iron-rich foods like red meats, spinach etc., as vitamin C aids iron absorption. Avoid tea for awhile after iron intake as the tannins in tea can block iron absorption - same goes for wine.

With your thyroid you might also check into whether you have adequate selenium and iodine intake as these are vital to thyroid function. There's a vicious circle with thyroid and ferritin problems, so you'd want to address all sides.

Let's not forget that the basics count here too - a good overall diet, stress reduction, organic shampoos, etc. And TIME! Hair can take awhile to show changes.

Best of luck, and please let us know what you find works for you!

To Melinda re: Saw Palmetto for hair loss... forget Saw Palmetto. Saw Palmetto regnerates tissue. There's some conflicting information out there, but it does not appear to be safe for women to take, especially if you have fibroids or endometriosis, and most especially if you don't know it!

I went through nine years of hell with hair loss, which started at perimenopause. I would be out to dinner with a friend and hunks of hair would fall into my plate. I'd wash my hair and would fill up the toilet bowl with the hair that would come out. (And yes, I originally had a ton of hair, below the shoulder in length and very thick.) This wasn't just a general thinning, but patchy fallout and breakage. Every winter the hair would change texture, get hard as a rock and break off at the roots at the left side of the crown and at the nape of the neck. When I couldn't hide the damage, I wore wigs. I wore wigs for five out of those nine years. Doctors and herbalists couldn't find the cause. My thyroid checked out normal on blood tests; I did not have a fungal infection of the scalp. I tried everything I could think of: MSM worked for a little while, so did Black Walnut Hull tincture. I had some luck with Black Cohosh for a year, then it rebounded on me and I had to stop.

Finally, in 2006, a friend of mine sent me to a lecture on adrenal fatigue. I later had myself "spit" tested for levels of estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, thyroid hormones, cortisol and DHEA. Well, it turns out that at 5PM each day, I had no cortisol. Zip, nada. My adrenals were in trouble and there was no way they could take over and compensate for the lowered hormone output of menopause. The protocol for raising levels of cortisol is to take DHEA and Pregnenalone (sp?). Unfortunately, between slop bucket hot flashes, extreme fatigue and flipping out, I was too sensitive to take those "precursor" hormones.

Four months after this, I got very sick with Bronchitis and could not get rid of it for three months. A herbalist I was seeing for the Bronchitis decided that my problems were nutritional and prescribed a herbal mix that I was to take as nutrients and not as medicine. Well, my body didn't react too well to that, either, so I decided to buy the herbs in bulk and try them one by one to see which one was disagreeing with me. One of the herbs was RED RASPBERRY LEAF, WHICH ALONG WITH KELP, GAVE ME MY HAIR BACK!!!! It was noticeable within days. I started the tea in March; by early May my hair had filled in enough that I was able to cut my hair in a short style and ditch the wig. Red Raspberry is known as a female tonic and mild alterative that tones the uterus, stops hemorrhages and diarrhea, reduces fevers, cures mouth ulcers and stimulates hair growth. It's delicious, inexpensive and you don't need much of it.

Purchase Red Raspberry Leaf in bulk at any reputable herb store or coop. When buying Kelp in bulk, get the granulated kind that looks like pepper. The fine powder Kelp is too clumpy and doesn't mix or sprinkle well.

Formula:

Put 1/2 teaspoon of Raspberry Leaf in infuser or strainer.
Pour boiling water in cup to cover. Steep for 10 minutes, or if you like, to lukewarm.
Drink a cup of this twice a day. When your hair is recovered, reduce to once a day.

Kelp: 1/4 teaspoon twice a day; once in AM, once in late afternoon. Just put it on the spoon and follow with a big glass of water, or sprinkle it on your food. Can cause sleeplessness if taken in evening. Can also take 1/2 teaspoon once a day. Adjust dosage depending on how it effects you.

Another thing that's helpful -- switch to an organic shampoo and conditioner. Especially conditioner! You'll notice a difference right away. My hair texture really changed; it became much more elastic! Some "organics" are really organic and some are not. If you email me, I'd be glad to tell you what I used. If you go to Organic Consumer website you should be able to find a link to a list of products that are NOT AUTHENTIC or are contaminated with toxins, so you can screen any hair products you are interested in against the list.

I realize this is long, but I thought the story needed to be told. It wasn't until last year on an annual physical that it was discovered that I had hundreds of tiny cysts on my thyroid, yet all my numbers were still normal. Red Raspberry might work for you. Good luck, Melinda.

Saw Palmetto

Melinda, Saw Palmetto is definitely safe for women to take. It is one of the top ingredients in a lot of herbal breast enhancement formulas for women. I have taken Saw Palmetto for months at a time before and never had any side effects (never got bigger breasts either!) ;-)

Help! Does anyone out there know if it's harmful in any ways for women to take saw palmetto? Thyroid's done a number on my hair. Looking for ways to hopefully get it back. Always thought SP was a men's herb. Any info regarding this would be helpful. Please feel free to email me about it. Thanks!

Blackstrap Molasses, B Complex, ACV

Yes! Those brown streaks are more than likely because of your mixture, especially if she did not have this condition before. I would be very wary of using so much iron while you are breastfeeding your daughter. Babies do not need THAT much iron. When I breastfed my daughter, I noticed that anytime I ate garlic, she would have garlic breath. Also anytime I drank cow's milk (I'm allergic to milk protein) my daughter would have excruciating stomach pains. When I stopped drinking milk, her pain disappeared. PLEASE, be very careful of what you give yourself while you breastfeed. Loss of hair is common after having a baby due to hormone adjustment and stress. I would suggest y9ou simply eat as healthily of food as you can while your body adjusts itself; don't stress over your hair so much right now. (By the way, a good stress soother for you and the baby is stewed apples with cinnamon. Just heat 2 sliced apples in pot or microwave until soft and add cinnamon and eat when warm. I found that my baby would sigh with pleasure whenever I ate this before or while breastfeeding; we both felt calmer and it safely soothed her stomachache) Please go on line and check what excess iron can do to babies and their brains. If it was me, I would wait until I finished breastfeeding before putting such potent (toxic for the baby) concentrations into my body. Please check before going further.. Best wishes for you both...

Blackstrap Molasses, Gluten-Free Diet

I too have been losing my hair.

I'm 58 years old, have COPD and celiac disease. I have for the most part quit eating gluten foods, but every now and again I binge on them. I just did this. When I did, I noticed my hair falling out much heavier than normal. I stopped and the abnormal hair loss stopped.

I take two tablespoons of blackstrap molasses every morning with hot water. I've also started with a teaspoon of honey mixed with ACV as well, morning and night, and notice right away that the hair loss stops.

I have low energy so I began yesterday by adding cinnamon to the ACV/honey mixture. I'll see how that works for the low energy. Also, with the BSM, I've noticed a change in color in my hair. Where it was once almost all gray, it is turning back to the original dark/almost black, that it was. It's a miracle! Especially in my condition. Check for severe allergies; they might be the culprit to the hair loss and you can eliminate them then.

Also, if you've gone through trauma of any kind and/or are high strung, try the honey, experiment with dosage, as it is a relaxer. It will help you sleep, too. Look for honey that is local to your area as it can also help with outdoor types of allergies.

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Many thanks to all who are contributing to this great site. I have been using 1 Tbsp of BSM in milk first thing in the morning for past two months,Vitamin b complex for 2-3 weeks and 1 tbsp ACV 2-3 times a week in glass of warm water for hair loss and gray hair problem. I am 29 yrs old breastfeeding mother of a toddler.

The remedy seems to work for hair loss as i have much better hair now. Gray hair problem is still there, no effect. But my daughter's front teeth have developed brown streaks. Can this be because of the treatment i am using. I do not want to stop as it is working for my hair loss. Please advise.

Pine Tar Soap

Hi All. Neither one of my older sisters have had any problems with hair loss so I think my hair loss is due to some necessary medication I am taking. Anyway, the problem started once I started taking this medication. I tried the acv rinse and it didn't help. I also tried a lot of supplements but they made my acid reflux worse. Although I didn't expect much, I bought a bar of Pine Tar soap and used it to wash my hair. Ever since the first night, and it's been about a week and a half now, less hair has been falling out in the shower. The one exception is if I've been really stressed out in the twenty four hours since last washing my hair.

The only two complaints is the very strong scent of the soap and that it leaves a residue on your hair since it is made with coconut oil. My hair doesn't look greasy but it looks like it has less volume. Just today I went a step further by installing a shower filter. Even less of my hair fell out tonight in the shower and I am really pleased. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the two people who recommended these two remedies.

Sincerely, Angie

thanks Joe for your detailed remedy... I would like to add that of course heredity plays a big factor in hair loss.though by follow much advice from EC one can perhaps minimize it.....Also about Spirulina, or blue green algae, people should take caution since these have neurotoxins which can damage health..Chlorella is a better choice though still in some doctors minds (Andrew Weil) a waste of money.

Coconut Oil

Hey Laurie! I see that no one has answered your post and thought I would. Coconut oil is really good to grow back your hair. It's really easy. Just get some virgin coconut oil and just lather it up on the scalp. All you have to do is to make sure you rub it on the scalp. Also if you want to double it up I like to also use aloe vera for my hair to make it nice and shiny and for hair lost. I hope this helps! As far as how often I think it depends on the person. I've only done this maybe about five or 6 times in the past year and my hair is a lot fuller. I would try maybe once a week on the weekend or once a month. Also make sure to leave it for an hour or two so it really is absorbed by the scalp.

Hey Jose from the UK- just make sure that the coconut oil you get says that it's virgin coconut oil or unrefined. You can find coconut oil in health food stores. I know in America they even have them in GNCs. If you go to a store and look at all the different kinds that there are look at the bottom and get the one that is pure white. Some are yellow at the bottom or greyish etc. The purest white one will taste the best and is simply the best to use. If you can't do this. I hope this helps!

Hydrogen Peroxide, Vicks Vapor Rub
Posted by Ted (Bangkok, Thailand) on 03/02/2009 392 posts

The vicks on skin or scalp helps with getting a skin rehydrated -as vicks major component is vaseline, while eucalyptus oil have some limited antifungal as it also degrades to hydrogen peroxide also, so it kill both bacteria and fungus. Borax used a shampoo has the same property in killing off the fungus, but not retnetion of moistue. Also a borax with 0.5% hydrogen peroxide as a shampoo, can also helped, but I used a vaseline, instead of eucalyptus oil (the vicks) as some people are too sensitive to use this kind of remeay over a week. In excess that may also kill off the hair roots. We just use enough to kill without harming the hair. My own application of tea tree with lavender or alone on scalp is only once or twice application only so much less then a week's time to do its job. Vitamin C is important in basic hairloss as it helps collagen formation and makes the hair roots more stronger.

As to the h2o2 drops taken internally helps rid of fungus and pathogens in the blood, as well as oxygenate teh blood, so this helps with hair loss.

However, I also believe tin deficiency is one of the causes, a tin supplement isn't easy to acquire either and the dose is quite low, such as 1 mg. The only way I see to get an amino acid chelated tin is to get a real tin can, or a tin metal and soak them in a soy sauce. A soy sauce is actually amino acids which will chelate them in very low amount and use them as a food flavoring added for soups. Tin deficiency is relatively low in Asian perhaps because of the use of tin in cups and cans, while tin is a deficiency since the switchover to the use of aluminum cans and plastic lined canned, which by they way are the source of estrogen, in the form of bisphenol A, which I believe is unhealthy for hair growth and weight loss also. Also Western culture use a lot of carpets, which is a mjaor source of fungus, that also leads to hair loss too.

I have found woman who take progesterone help with hair loss, but it becomes an addiction. If discontinued, hair loss gets worse. So in men, one other common cause is hormonal imbalance, which in some instances magnesium and boron (from borax) supplementation often helps normalizes this condition and helps with hair growth. Peroxide cleans the blood increase oxygen in the blood also. This can be proven through medical examination where blood's oxygen capacity does increase after taking peroxide drops. Hydrogen peroxide is amazingly stable and don't degrade easily in low dilution where water is also free from free heavy metals. If it is high, they tend to degrade quickly into numerous air bubbles which came from an old rusty faucet, or a old rusty water filter. Luckily today Iand unlucky at the same time), most water filter are now from plastics, but certain water filter again may generate bisphenol A if the wrong kinds of plastic were used. There's no way we can find out without proper analysis on that one and water filter companies don't even have to disclose whether some of the water filter are bisphenol free, or other contaminants from it's production. In any case, I think its still better then the metal filter ones.

Ted
