I understand that biotin helps to strengthen hair and if you are deficient that deficiency can represent itself in hair loss. I have also read that it can help maintain your color, slowing down graying hair. It is also good for strengthening your nails to prevent cracking and splitting.

I want to thank you for posting this, and affirm that this really worked for me! As another poster mentioned, it may not be a hair growth remedy, but it sure does slow or halt the hair shedding. This regiment should be a must for anyone with a certain length of hair. I saw a dramatic decrease in the amount of hairs that I shed while washing my hair, and it is now down to 1 or zero! I had read about brushing with a boar bristle brush on a Long-Hair web forum, in order to decrease the shedding and clogging in the shower, but they did not list this technique and I only tried this after reading it here on earth clinic! Thank you so much!

Coconut Oil

how do you tell the difference between good and not so good coconut oil. I've searched online and the prices are varied. Does that mean that some of them are not the real stuff?

Regarding organic virgin cold pressed coconut oil, I internally take 3 tsp daily, as well as oil pull with it, and for skin, it is a great makeup remover as well as facial cleanser and moisturizer. For hair, once a month; I saturate my hair (dry hair) with the oil, then wrap in saran wrap and cover with a warm towel for no less than 2hrs.; then wash normally. It is IMO, one of the better oils to use externally, since it absorbs so quickly, and is less damaging than all those nasty chemicals.

L-Lysine, Biotin, Blackstrap Molasses

I am writing to let everyone know what has finally worked for me after dealing with thinning hair for 20 years now. My hair has always been very fine, but starting thinning in my mid 20's.

My thinning hair has been a source of embarrassment and concern to me for many, many years. Although I eat very healthy, use all natural hair products for the most part and take supplements, nothing has helped.

I tried Nioxin which made my hair nice and shiny and healthy but did not stop the hair loss or thinning. My hair loss was so bad that it plugged the bathroom drain and I had to put a snake down the drain to clear it. When I pulled up the snake there were handfuls of hair that had been lost over time. I was really upset at that point and decided to go to the doctor and have complete blood work done thinking that I must be very low in iron. My tests all came back normal although my iron was in the low normal range.

I did some reading on this site (stumbled across it) and read a testimonial from one member who said that she had started taking Lysine, biotin and iron pills for her hair loss and she had great results. I bought the biotin 5000mcg, lysine 500mg, but decided to take 1 tablespoon of blackstrap molasses instead of the iron pills (they upset my bowels).

After only 1 month I can see any incredible difference already!!!! My hair is thicker, healthier, and is filling in nicely. More importantly, it does not seem to be falling out at the same rate it used to. I had almost gotten to the point that I had given up on trying to find a "natural" cure to my hair loss and was ready to consider a hairpiece or transplant when it thinned a little more.

I had been struggling with thinning hair and the lack of self confidence that goes with it (you can spend a lot of time trying to cover all the thin spots) for years. Please give this an honest try even if you are fed up with all the things that never worked. It is worth one last try and the supplements are reasonably priced and won't do your body any harm.

Good Luck to all!

Actually Joyce I'm not. I used to use regualr shampoos but lately Ive been using organic ones. I cant explain it. I mean I remember I used to take hydrocut to lose some fat in my stomach, years ago. I dont know if that might have cause my hair to fall out slow. Its been 3 or 4 years that my hair has been thinning.

I have been taking Coconut Oil for my hair loss as well, for the past month. My hair seems much thicker. My body temperature is much better too. I Love it! I feel like a new person. I have so much energy. In fact, I have to take my three tablespoons in the morning, or I have trouble sleeping at night.

Hello Al,

Are you using a dandruff shampoo such as Head & Shoulders, Zincfrin or any other shampoo with the same active ingredients.

When I was using them, I found myself losing hair until it suddenly dawned on me that it had started a few weeks after switching shampoos. Worked fine for the dandruff, but the hair loss stopped when I threw out the dandruff shampoo. I know several other people who lost hair from the same products. I find the dandruff problem was corrected by using 50/50 apple cider vinegar and warm water final rinse after shampooing.

hey AR447 from Austin, TEXAS -- have you seen hair growth after taking acupuncture and chinese medicine? And on what part of your head have u been losing hair? Have you been doing the acupuncture for 6 months? Do you eventually stop?

I am also young with no history of hair loss in my family, but had been experiencing hair loss, slowly and gradually since I was 20. I am now almost 30 and have been having success with monthly acupuncture and chinese herbs taken twice daily. My hair loss was a result of a kidney deficiency which is actually pretty common. western medicine refused to acknowledge other possibilities aside from anemia and hereditary balding. I was desperate too but am starting to see some results. It's only been 6 months but I am hopeful.

Hi, This is with regards to my hair loss problem. I am facing alopecia this problem since 10 years without any success treating the same. I have used all kinda oils, medicines.

The only product that has given me immediate relief is Olive Oil. Mind you , it should be Extra Virgin Olive Oil (First cold press). The other ones dont work so good.

I apply a tablespoon of olive oil all over the scalp and hair and leave it at night and shampoo the next morning with mild shampoo. (The shampoo should not be harsh or which causes hair falls).

Right after the first application, my hair loss the next day reduced and after a few days application it has reduced significantly.

Now I hope i get back all my hair...And hope this information helps those who are desperately in need of the same.

Faris Kadri

I have been losing hair for almost 3 yrs now. the process is slow though. it began a little bit behind my forehead line. It seemd rare that it began there b/c I've seen the MBP pics and they're not similar. And no one in my family is bald. I'm only 25 yrs old and have alot of hair for most part. I have been taking ACV with baking soda., for a month now. But I still dont see any results. I also put some ACV on my head but dont see much difference. Although the ACV did help with the dryness of the bottom of my feet. The bottom of my feet are smooth now. Can you help me out?? I'm really desperate.

Selenium, Coconut Oil
Posted by Dan (Bullhead City, Arizona) on 12/18/2008

I have found that taking Selenium nearly completely stopped my hair loss. With Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, I saw a little hair re-growth - not to mention a fantastic improvement in my overall skin and scalp health.

Mine is typical male pattern baldness, but it started when I was only 16 after a tough bout with Walking Pneumonia. I'm now 39 years old. Hair loss began early with me, most likely by way of an internal systemic fungal infestation that was allowed to flourish in the wake of the heavy antibiotics I was given for Pneumonia.

Read Ted From Thailand's comments on hair loss and causes. You need to detox and get heavy metals out of your body first, then treat with natural anti-fungal remedies and supplements.

When taking 400mcg of Selenium and two to four tablespoons of Organic Virgin Coconut (internally) each day, I saw some very modest hair regrowth. Just some; not a lot. I also was taking as many tablets of Acidophilus as I could to fight fungus in the body, since I don't think there's a way to overdose on Acidophilus.

Consistency is the key. I am not as consistent as I need to be, unfortunately. To see real results, I have to take the Selenium and Coconut Oil each and every day.

Scalp itching is part of my hair loss, and treating itching topically with coconut oil helps a lot.

It is my hunch that if you have dandruff, acne, hair loss, brittle hair, flakes in your eyebrows and crust around your nose or in your ears, you probably have a fungal infection. Again, read Ted From Thailand's recommendations.

I don't know if this brushing technique will grow hair back. But, I gotta tell you I have been doing it for 3 days now and I am hooked on it. It feels so good to me that I look forward to doing the brushing. I don't have a lot of hair loss but some thinning on top thought I would give it a try. Will let you know if my hair thickens up. Thanks

Brushing Technique
Posted by Shirley (Missouri) on 11/23/2008

Reply to; Julie from Sydney You have the idea, I think. There's nothing different about the way you would be brushing your hair anyway. Except you brush the underneath hair first without pressure on the scalp. Then you stand up and you will start to brush your hair as usual only with pressure being applied to brush at the scalp.

Brushing Technique
Posted by julie (Sydney, Australia) on 11/21/2008

Just to clarify - when I lean forward I hold my hair in one hand, start at base of scalp and kinda glide the brush through the hair to tips. Do I go round the side and front as well? So I'm not really touching my scalp with brush more like feeding my hair into brush at this point with not much pressure at all. More like I want to wipe my hair through the brush. I do this from base down to tip back, side and front. Then I stand up and apply pressure from front to back tips side to back tips and base underneath to tips. Is this correct? Thanks.

I started losing my hair when i was about 18 .i t became a natural thing after a while , i was introduced to Shu Wu Pian which is a chinese herbal supplement .after taking regularly for a few weeks i noticed that the hair lose completly stopped and all the gray hair went away, told my dad about it and he had the same result . Shu Wu Pian can be found at any asian market .Oh did i mention it makes you feel very young as well :)) good luck !!!!

EC: Read about potential side effects (rare liver reactions) here: http://www.itmonline.org/arts/hsw_alert.htm

"The four published reports cited in the alert all mention Shou Wu Pian; this is a product manufactured in Shanghai; there are also several manufacturers who have more recently copied the product. It is reputed to contain 100% Ho Shou Wu, but the actual content in the Shanghai preparations is not known. The report also mentions the recent cases involving Shen Min—a product made of several ingredients (including vitamins), with extract of Ho Shou Wu as a central herbal component—and Shou Wu Wan, which is a formula that is said to contain Ho Shou Wu plus a dozen other herbs."

Response To 08/19/2008 Sad Ger from Singapore:

Answer,
I hope I can to be clearer about the way this brushing should be done. When you start to brush your hair while you are bent forward and have your hair toward the floor, you start at the scalp but do not put pressure on the brush at the scalp. At this point you don't want to be brushing the scalp but just the hair. From the scalp you brush your hair down to the tips.I use one hand to push the hair into the brush and brush all the hair starting from the back of my neck down to the ends.

When you're finished, you would stand up straight again. Let you hair fall back away from your face and brush from the forehead towards the back or from the crown down the sides. When you begin this brushing, you hold the hairbrush firm onto the scalp and beginning brushing from the scalp with pressure on the brush, and brush the hair towards the back, sides or whatever feels right for your hair.

Hope that explains it more correctly. If not you may send me an email for more info.

I've been using this liquid cayenne (in a dropper) for about 3 weeks now and my hair feels a lot thicker. I have diffuse thinning in the front, not very badly tho. just enough that i can notice and that i want to do something about it. anyway, i've been using it and i've noticed LESS hairloss. DHT covers and suffocates the hair follicles from blood and all the nutrients in the blood (vitamins b, a, c, e, etc etc). the cayenne helps BIG time with circulation. all i know is that it is def. helping!!!

Cayenne Pepper and Aloe Vera
Posted by Vinny (Atlanta, GA) on 05/16/2008

Not only does Cayenne Pepper & Aloe Vera prevent hair loss and help in its growth, it also SUBSTANTIALLY diminishes and/or gets rid of acne where ever it is applied. I would suggest not to use the household cooking spice (if you can help it) only because I believe the Cayenne Pepper tablets are much stronger.

I mix Cayenne with Aloe Vera and put it on my face and after application, I get more Cayenne Pepper to mix it in just to make sure there is enough C.P

Be cautious that it does not go in your eyes as it will burn! In fact, after application, it will burn but you have to be strong! I usually keep it on my face for about 20mins so I try to leave it on there. It will burn but after you rinse your face with COLD water (carefully making sure it does not go in your eyes), you will be glad you did.

After an hour or so, you should see a huge difference, if not right after your rinse.

EC: Vinny, can you please tell us how you apply the cayenne and aloe vera to prevent hair loss? Measurements, application process, etc. Thanks!

Remedies for Hair Growth:

1. Mix as per your hair length, castor oil, olive oil and coconut oil in equal measures. Warm and massage on to your scalp. This will arrest hair fall and promote hair growth.

2. Soak methi (fenugreek) seeds and curry leaves in coconut oil, overnight. Next morning warm it a little and massage it on to your scalp. The massage should be gentle, yet it should leave your scalp tingling. Rinse off with a herbal shampoo. Alternatively you could rinse it with the juice of crushed red hibiscus leaves.

Follow this regularly for best results. It will keep your scalp healthy and prevent hair fall.

3. If you can tolerate the smell of mustard oil here's a remedy. Boil mustard oil and while it is boiling, keep adding fresh henna, basil and curry leaves to it. After the leaves are burnt black, switch off the gas. Cool, strain and use twice to thrice a week for best results.

I have used coconut oil for many years. I learned this from my aunt who was noticing her hair was falling out more than usual so she starting using it on her scalp and hair and it not only stopped her hair loss, but actually made her hair grow strong, abundant and shiny so I started using it myself. Needless to say I have really thick strong, to much hair actually.
