Hi Sunny - I have not bought a PH tester yet... But was looking also. I looked on Ebay to see what was out there, get ideas of different models... and what they were selling for.

THEN I went to a search engine and to Amazon (dot) com to see what they were selling them for.

I still have not decided on one, but I do believe that Ebay is a good place to research an item.... but not necessarily to purchase.

Good luck!

~Carly :-)

Hi Sunny/Carly, On Ebay and elsewhere you can find the Hanna "pH Checker" digital pH meter. It's about $30.USD. Mine came off Ebay.

I think you will find this meter perfect for what you are trying to do. I wound up returning 2 other meters with larger, wider, way deeper (requires a very large testing sample), more unwieldy electrodes before I found this one.

If you are wanting to check pH of Urine/Saliva, the pH Checker has a small, easy to clean electrode and is quick to use and very accurate. The small electrode means it is able to work with a smaller sample in a smaller container, and is also much easier to clean than the models with larger, wider and more deeply recessed electrodes.

I have found the "small sample" capability most valuable when checking the pH of saliva. The sample-container I have found most useful for checking Saliva pH is the plastic snap-on protective top cover which fits over the spray head of a Mane n Tail Brand 'hair detangler' spray bottle. This top is just about the size of a small thimble, and the pH Checker electrode tip goes right into it easily. The bigger pH meters won't fit into such a tiny sample container at all, and made checking saliva pH way too hard to do.

Trust me, at 3AM (or on the road) it will make a great difference how easy your equipment is to use :-).

Just line up your containers (Clean, upside down, on paper towels) on your way to bed, 1, 2, 3... and Done.

Hi Sunny, If you are intending to test saliva, I wouldn't use that one- The electrode is too huge. you'll have to have a lot of spit worked up to get a dependable reading with that one.

Check my post on this thread ref the Hanna "pH Checker", it will explain why.

Linda thank you for your advice.

If the checker rang 0-14ph, what buffer calibration solution I need to buy? 4, 7, or 10 ph?

Hi Sunny, I have this meter and it is great for testing urine but as Linda says not easy to test saliva.

Hi Sunny, Sorry I did not see your question until just now- Since we are interested in greatest accuracy around a pH of 7.0, I'd get the 7 solution to calibrate your meter. It will likely arrive pre-calibrated, mine did. It was fine.

Don't worry, it's easy. Other than that, just follow the easy maintenance instructions that should arrive with your meter.

Borax
Posted by Chiangmaisue (Chiang Mai, Thailand) on 01/10/2012

(Note to Earth Clinic folks - I have been greatly helped by Earth Clinic. This is my first time to post. I live in Thailand and it is very hard to find some of the remedies posted on the site. If you won't be able to post the Good Karma info, I understand. But I hope you might for the sake of desperate foreigners like me who live in Thailand. They also carry Epsom Salts and Bentonite clay! )

Good news for those living in Thailand who, like me, have had a difficult time finding pharmaceutical grade borax. Good Karma (supposed to be Thailand's only online health store) now carries it. http://www.healthfoodthailand.com/index.php

Thanks,

Chiang Mai Sue

Probably find it at any farmer's co-op. It is a very soothing and healing cream.

Speaking of bag balm reminds me, any of you following the current information on dairy products made from the milk from the cows shot full of BGH to make them produce more milk causing breast cancer in women, and causing more udder problems in the cows themselves. Wonder what else we will eventually learn it causes.

You can find it just about anywhere these days; Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS. It's in a square tin vs. a jar or tube.

Hi All, I have been reading your questions and comments and thought I would contribute.

For those looking to purchase bloodroot and black salve for their pets (it is illegal to sell for human use here in Aust) try http://www.centreforce.com/ or http://www.bevanpotter.com/

For those desiring things that reduce scars, assist in detox and other alternative health products see http://www.ntshealth.com.au/ and http://www.nutri-tech.com.au/

I have used products from nts health and they work, especially TamuSkin (for scars, burns...).

Magnesium Chloride
Posted by Rudy (Lucena, Quezon, Philippines) on 12/10/2011

From Rudy of Lucena City, Philippines to Bill of San Fernando, Philippines

Hi Bill, where can I buy magnesium chloride flakes in Manila, also is it bad to use magnesium chloride oil transdermal therapy for people with high blood pressure? I often have leg cramp every night and have high blood pressure.

Magnesium Chloride
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 12/11/2011

Hi Rudy... You can maybe try to get magnesium chloride or Magniesium Oil at Megamall SM or Mall of Asia SM at their Healthy Options stores there. If you can't find the Magnesium Chloride, get the Magnesium Sulfate(Epsom salts) from Healthy Options -- it is very cheap to buy and only costs 99 pesos per large milk carton. I take the Epsom salts orally and I also put it into a small garden flower sprayer as a solution and spray it all over my body after showers and it is transdermally absorbed similar to the magnesium chloride. This is also a good way of getting alot of magnesium into your body more quickly than the oral route. You can also directly spray over areas that have cramp problems and this will also help to reduce BP.

I do have chemical grade Magnesium Chloride crystals as well, but I bought this in Thailand and only use it for more major problems if and when they arise. Other forms that you can buy for oral use are Magnesium Citrate or Magnesium Gluconate -- which are also definetely sold at the Healthy Option stores.

For high blood pressure there is a herb that is quite useful called Tinospora cordifolia -- called Makabuhay in Filipino -- and you can purchase stem sticks quite cheaply at Quiapo Market in Quezon. This market sells herbs and they will have Makubuhay.

Preparation of Makabuhay Decoction

* Cut three 15" sticks into smaller three inch sticks.

* Bash the smaller sticks and open them up.

* Throw the sticks into 2 liters of water and simmer on low heat until the liquid is reduced to 1 liter.

* Cool, strain and store in fridge.

* Take a third of a glass of this decoction twice a day with any fresh, non-processed fruit juice(makabuhay tastes very bitter).

Makbuhay helps to thin the blood and reduce BP by diuretic action, helping to remove excess cholesterol from the blood and it also helps to remove excess calcium. It is also advisable to take a mineral supplement while using this decoction over the longer term because of its mild diuretic effects.

Also, try and reduce vegetable oils, sugar, dairy products and refined salt in your diet -- these are all causative factors in high blood pressure conditions. Use VCO, stevia(safe herbal sweetener) and sea salt instead in your diet. This will all help to reduce high blood pressure.

Iodine
Posted by Nattakit (Bangkok, Thailand) on 10/22/2011

I've found a pharmaceutical factory in Thailand producing Lugol's 5% solution. They produce for veterinary use. I talked with the pharmacist and managing director and was told that though it is meant for veterinary use, human use should be O.K. As the production standard is equivalent to human drug. Besides it's a B.P. Formula that is accepted the world over. You may contact them and ask for small bottle with dropper (not offered in their standard size bottle). The email address is [email protected].

I have just come across Manuka Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar (with mother) in Boots chemist. It is said to be all pure from New Zealand.

Has anyone tried this or is there anyone who will say not to try it? From reading many posts on many different sites regarding ACV I know the mother is very important and together with honey it goes well.

If anyone has any feedback or anything to say on this, please get back to me as I am thinking about giving this a go ( I suffer severe muscle /joint pains, with it likely to be beneficial to my family).

Ted,

I am in Bangkok. I am looking for borax to cure my dogs mange. Please, where can I find it? And secondly where can I find Epsom salt for myself. Thank you much much. My dog is itching all the time. Derrik

Borax
Posted by Nattakit (Bangkok, Thailand) on 08/12/2011

I think you can try finding at Vidthayasom located at Rajdamnern Ave. They open Mon. -Fri from 9. 00 a. M. - 5. 00 p. M. Call and ask first at 02-3817100.

I had the experience in dog mange. I used hydrogen peroxide, the normal grade 3-5% that you can find at any pharma shop. Do not select the clear bottle, use only the brown one. Mix about a half a red bull cap with the food twice a day. The smell will recede within a few days together with the itching and hair will eventually grow.

You won't find Epsom salt in Thailand, it is known in Thai as "Dee Klua Farang" available at most of Thai and Chinese herbal medicine shops.
