Oh my goodness! I found this site last week for a DIFFERENT ailment. Last night I was microwaving potatoes (to have a baked potatoe faster than normal). The microwave is on top of my fridge. They were in, on high, for about 10 minutes. I pulled out the bowl to add more water and spilled the water down my left arm. INTENSE PAIN!!!!! WORSE THAN HAVING MY 10 LB. BOY 13 YEARS AGO!!!!! After holding freeze pops on my arm for about an hour I finally remembered this site. I was VERY SKEPTICAL. I only had 2 eggs. Very carefully, I used my pointer finger and put a thin layer on the burns which covered about 75% of my lower arm. Instant relief. I tried to lay down but they dried and the pain came back. I took 1 paper towel and soaked it in my only 2 egg whites. I covered the burn, wrapped it in saran wrap and went to bed. This morning there are NO RED MARKS, NO PAIN, IT'S LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!!! I am shocked and so VERY VERY VERY THANKFUL FOR THIS WEB SITE! I LOVE ALL OF YOU! PLEASE DON'T STOP SHAING YOUR HOME REMEDIES!!!!!

While using a crocheted pot holder, I pulled a cast iron skillet out of a 325° F oven, set it on the stove, then needed to move it. I'd forgotten to ensure the entirety of the handle was covered. The kind of burn that results in a blister happened. Hubby suggested that I run cold water over it to take the heat out. I don't know about everyone else, but that only works while the burn is in the water. My hand would've felt as if it were on fire the second I stopped.

Instead, I searched for burn remedies in case there were some I didn't know about. The first one that made any sense was egg whites. Two went into a saucer, my hand soaking until I could lift it with minimal pain. For now (roughly 45 mins after the incident), I'm leaving the dried egg on. It hurts in proportion to how much I move my hand. At least I'm not stuck at the sink! I plan on using some honey (raw, unfiltered) once I feel the whites can be washed off.

Thanks for the advice! It never blistered; possibly thanks to the eggs. I used honey, a paper towel, & an ace bandage to keep the honey in place/allow it to breathe. By the end of the day, it only hurt when touched. Today (the day after the burn), it only hurts when rubbed/scraped. This is definitely a remedy I plan on using again! By the way, I only burnt a small portion of my palm, so it's not a big wound.

Editor's Choice

I had a crock pot full of hot soup that I was putting in the fridge. Just as I got to the shelf the crock broke in half. Luckily I had an oven mit on my right hand. No so lucky I only had a pot holder in the left hand Well my left hand got toasted I immediately put it in a ice bath for some time. I then applied home grown aloe I applied the aloe for a couple of days. Then hurricane Irma hit I kept

The wounds covered with antibacterial gauze and antibiotic gel and wraps while doing yard work the next 3 days. The pain level was high Then Thursday after Irma hit Ft Myers FL a friend told me about egg whites I thought ok why not. So glad I did, the healing process has been quick. Not totally healed yet but the pain level has gone down greatly and healing seems faster than the antibiotic gel.

I'm a waitress so I have to put bandages on the affected areas They're not pretty. But now using two bandages instead of three. The top of my left hand, three fingers and the bottom of my wrist were affected. I only have to bandage the top of hand now. Love natural cures! Stiil have some time to heal as I believe 3 Rd degree burns were incurred. I thank my friend for the advice. Wish I had known a few days earlier.

Egg whites:

My mom used this as a remedy for me growing up. It absolutely works for minor kitchen burns. It forms a nice "fake" skin over the area too, protecting the burn from the air. Just separate yolks and fill a small container with the whites.

EGG WHITES, REALLY? YES!!! REALLY!!!

Hello, all....I'm sure you are aware of the multiple postings on here for egg whites, I have read them all......so let me save you some time. It does work!!!!! I am typing this with my left hand soaking in a bowl of egg whites and absolutly no pain or burning sensation at all.

Earlier this morning at 7am (it is now 10:45am) I burned my hand with scalding HOT coffee, by accidentally pushing the button on our automatic dispensing coffee maker. Mind you this was 1 minute before walking out the door to drop the kids off at school. I screamed (thank goodness the kids were already in the car), cried, ran my hand under cold water (which really didn't help too much), told my husband what happened, then walked out the door with a Spiderman ice pack we had sitting in our freezer. I kept the ice pack on during the drive and for a total of 2 1/2 hours once back home.

I still had severe pain and my ice pack was completely melted. After calling all the moms I knew for alternatives, I couldn't stand the pain any longer....so I opted to jump online and look for home remedies. Praise God that I ran across this site and tried the egg whites which stopped the pain immediately. Even when I take my hand out for a few seconds to do something, the layer or coating of egg whites on my hand keeps the pain from coming back.

Not sure how long the burn will take to completely heal (I will comment again when that happens), but all the redness and pain are gone and it LOOKS like it will heal fine, without blistering or peeling. WE'LL SEE :o)

****There is one piece of information I would like to share: The temperature of the egg whites determines the soothing level of the remedy. Occassionally the pain or burning feeling would come back once my hand warmed the liquid, so I would add another egg white to the bowl to cool it down. The colder the egg whites, the less pain you feel.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH EVERYONE FOR YOUR FEEDBACK!!!!!! I WOULD NOT HAVE TRIED IT IF THERE WEREN'T SOOO MANY COMMENTS LISTED.

I have been using egg whites on my burns for years. It is a miracle cure. my pain subsides almost immediately and it almost never blisters. When you put it on allow it to dry and dont wash off. it seals the burn and I believe that is the KEY. Try 1x and you will never use anything else again.

Last week I was in the kitchen draining noodles and lost my grip on the pot. I poured the still boiling noodles all over my right hand. I screamed and immediately let cold water run over it for about a minute and a half. I didn't know what to do for burns so I got some organic aloe vera gel out of the fridge and poured it over my hand which was very red and very painful. I put the gel in a bowl and kept my hand in it for about 5 minutes, but everytime I would lift my hand out, the horrible pain would return. My husband ran to the computer to see what the top cures were for burns. EGGWHITES. He cracked and seperated about six or seven cold egg whites into a bowl, and I put my burning hand it that instead. It felt immediately better! By this time, my hand was swelling a little and still very red and painful. I left my hand in the eggwhite mixture from eight pm to eleven pm, keeping my hand coated. By that time the pain was pretty much gone. I was tired and didnt want to sleep with my hand in the egg white bowl, so I coated my hand in the eggwhites and let it dry on my hand like a glove. I did that over and over til I had about three or four coats of dried egg whites on my hand, and then went to sleep like that. By morning I didnt know what to expect to see unter the egg white glove. I went to the bathroom to wash it off carefully. As all the egg whites disolved under the water, I quickly realized, there was no pain, no redness, no swelling and no scarring of any kind!!!! I use my right hand for everything for work and for making jewelry. This cure was a Godsend! Thank you earthclinic!!!!! God bless each of you who keeps this website up and running. My family loves you from the bottom of our hearts. I always tell everyone I know about you. They are believers too. Keep up the amazing work! Jennifer

Tom, have to disagree with your warning. Not long ago I spilled boiling/scalding water on my fingers. Really sore. Ran cold water over them for a minute or so while I tried to think/remember what to do. Pain was awful and I could see the fingers beginning to swell. I remembered the egg white solution. My fingers felt like they were being bitten by about 50 piranhas at this point. I separated the yoke from the white of one egg and put the white into a bowl and put my fingers into the cold -eggs were in 'fridge- egg white. Instant relief, and within minutes my fingers were getting their normal color back and the swelling went way down. I then soaked up the egg whites in a paper towel and wrapped that around my fingers and left that on for a few hours more. By evening there was no pain, no swelling everything was perfect. I know I would have had a very different outcome if I had not used the white of the egg.

Peace

I have to strongly disagree as well. I wanted to pour boiling water in my warm bottle and pour it over my fingers, it hurts so badly i put myfingers under the water with no relief at all, screaming to my husband to crack an egg and pour the egg white in a bowl. My nail start to peel, that was a bit scary. The moment i put my fingers in it, i had such a relief, nothing to compare with water. I left my fingers there for an hour, i was really scared to take them out, i thought it was going to blister anyway. I kept reading what else i could do, and decided to put aluminum foil over them. This morning no sign whatsoever that something happens. Amazing, i'm glad for the tip. Thank you

Egg Whites for SUNBURNS! Today my 11 year old daughter was attending a bday party at a waterpark and decided sunscreen wasn't that important. She is VERY VERY fair skinned (like her mom) and came home with a severe sunburn (already starting to blister). I had her bathe in cool water but I know from a few months ago this is a short term solution. A friend mentioned egg whites, I was thinking it might be a little crazy but decided to try. I used a basting brush to apply several layers and put a damp towel covering her back....out of ALL THE YEARS I have used Aloe Vera, you could STILL feel the heat rising off of the skin. Her skin is COOL TO THE TOUCH!!!! And her pain is VERY MUCH relieved compared to other times when other remedies didn't last!! The only reason I'm here is because earlier I figured I should at least look up this egg white idea to make sure it wasn't something that would cause further issues. So, for all of you who need a remedy for a SUNBURN, THIS IS THE BEST ONE SO FAR FOR US! :) THANK YOU!!!

Was so pleased I had read the egg whites remedy when yesterday I burned my finger on the side of a very hot frying pan. Had just cooked my last egg but there was still a residue of white in the discarded eggshell, I smeared this on and YES amazingly the pain stopped instantly. I smeared finger a couple of times more over the course of the evening and this morning just a smooth pink seared patch on my finger, no blister, redness or residual pain. I have been telling everyone about this miracle first-aid burn treatment!!

About HONEY for burns..a couple of years ago I poured boiling water into my hand instead of my tea-cup (go figure!) I did the ice water thing immediately to help the pain, then put a big blob of honey on the scalded surface of my palm, covered this with a cloth and put an ice pack on top. The ice helped with the pain but I had to keep renewing it. After 2 hours when the pain had finally subsided I removed the cloth and there was no sign of the scald at all. It was as if it had never happened. The honey was wonderful for the healing the skin, but the egg white is fantastic for the pain of a burn.

My Daughter who is 7 accidently back into my Husband's moped yesterday and burnt her arm she ran in to the house and put a rag on it and in the process she tore away the blister that immediately formed. The burn is about 4 or 5 inches long and about 2 inches wide. Half of it is exposed new skin because of the blister being torn away. She was in pain and saying it was stinging I went looking for advice for her and found your site. I opted for using the egg whites as it had the most replies and seemed least painful for her. I cracked and separated an egg and tore out the membrane of the egg placed the membrane over the burn and applied the egg whites covered it and she was out of pain almost immediately we continued to keep it wet and when she woke up this morning I took off the bandage and it still look gnarly but she is in no pain. Thanks for all the great help and my daughter thanks you also. I sure would have never thought to us egg whites I just wanted something that would not hold in the heat.

I burned the three fingers on my left hand by touching the lawn mower muffler and the pain was very intense I couldnt stand it anymore, pulled up this web site and tried the egg thing. I used 2 eggs without the yolks, like Madge would say "your (I am) soaking in it right now" And typing w/one hand. Still stinging a little but major difference in the pain, only been soaking for 10 minutes or so, Time will tell. I would def recommend this. The only way I could get out of pain was cold water and then I would be ok for about a minute or two then I would haft to go back under the cold water and it was getting pretty annoying. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TRY THE EGG WHITES IT WORKS.

Egg Whites: Great healer for a scalding burn

I burned my hand while holding a thermos bottle and pouring boiling water into the thermos bottle. For whatever reason the boiling water exceeded the mouth of the thermos and burned the back of my hand, between the fingers and the inside of the hand. Got the hand under cold water ASAP and left it there to cool it down which really helped prevent blistering, though the tissues did swell. Once the hand could leave the running cold water for a bit, I applied egg white to all of the burned area and then some. Let it dry and went on with the chores of the day. Within 1/2 hour of having the egg white on the horrible intense pain was gone and all that remained was very tender tissue. Needing to wash my hands a few times with the chores of the day I continued reapplying egg white for the rest of the day so that the hand remained with egg white on it for a good 8 hours during the day. Come night, there was still some very tender skin across the knuckles that attach the fingers to the palm of the hand and I opted to apply more egg white, let it dry, put a glove over the hand and go to bed for the night. Come morning the tenderness was still there, but less. With the immediate cold water and putting on egg whites as often as I felt was required, there are no blisters and the burn is healing quickly.

I knew I should've bought those non-organic caged chicken eggs… Minor steam burn and egg white layers did nothing. I took some Arnica by mouth and that helped some.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

Egg whites for burns -.similar to another poster from 2008, the initial burn and the unbearable pain in my burned fingers and wrist by hot splattered oil, the hours with just minimal icing.... The eggw hite from 1 egg did soothe, but did start to burn again a little as the liquid warmed up from my burning hot fingers, so yes, depending on the amount of burn, do add more eggwhites or chill them if you can. I tried to resist adding more eggs and just kept on reading the comments to motivate myself that it´ll go away while I kept on soaking my hand in the mixture for an hour. THEN, I wrapped it in ALUMINUM foil as so many have suggested (each finger individually so that they don´t transfer heat to each other in a mitten manner) and while it burned a bit for the first minute, then, miraculously the pain almost totally subsided (if I don´t poke at it and just keep it still, which an hour ago was unthinkable, as it burned like hell! ) :) YAY

EGG WHITES!!! I burned both my hands with hot oil while I was cooking. The burning would not STOP, after about 7 hours of constantly running to the ice water bowl I had created, I decided to try some home natural remedies as I desperately needed some relief of the awful burning stinging sensation. I read about egg whites and to my surprise it was working!! But it really worked, it took the stinging pain out right away, and I was able to then put on cream and a bandage. Thanks everyone for your experiences. I hope my review can help someone too!

Hi, in burns it is best to use cool running water not ice water as this causes vasoconstriction in the vessels too quickly... With associated complications and side effects. Also most proprietary creams are not suitable for burns as they are oil based. 'Bandages' tend to be fluffy so should be avoided.. Best option is film wrap or non adherent burns dressing.. Glad to hear you recovered using egg white.. And that's no yolk.. eh joke! keep well, keep safe.

I burnt my left hand with boiling water on the palm and through the fingers through to the front of my hand. I tried to cool it down with a jug of cold water for about 2 hours but the pain just came back everytime I took it out of the water - and then I found this site. I would never have believed it but the egg whites have done the trick - I soaked my hand in them for half an hour and the pain is gone!! Unbelievable!! Thank you everyone who posted here - I would never have tried it if it wasn't for all these posts.

The egg whites worked to cure my burn! I read the aluminum foil reviews but got the impression with that method the pain is pretty bad for a bit before it gets better. It seemed to be that the relief is more immediate with the egg whites so decided to go with that remedy instead. Well it worked like a charm... Right away I had his cooling sense and the pain subsided. I put the whites of 2 eggs in a bowl and just immersed my finger in there. If I took my finger out the pain would be back in seconds but as soon as I put it back in the whites it would just dissappear. So I kept it dunked in for an hour while watching tv and by the time my show was done I could take it out with no pain. No blister formed at all. I'm a believer! Try egg whites.

WARNING!

This is not true... If you go and do some research you will find that you must cool the burn first with cold water, not ice, cold running water and this is only for 1st and 2nd degree burns. 3rd degree burns, keep them breathing, cover with wet clothes but DO NOT immerse in water.

Egg whites can contain salmonella and can cause infection and even death. If you insist on using them as mentioned in one medical reference in the late 1890s... cool the burn with water first...

I got a burn on my arm from taking some food out of the oven. I tired using ice to relieve the pain but it is very short term. I looked on Earth Clinic and found egg whites, so I slightly beat the egg white, applied to the burn and put a small piece of paper towel over to hold egg whites to the skin. Surprisingly, the pain went away. After it dried, it came off the burn and I began to feel pain again, so I reapplied the egg white.

The next day I began applying Vit. E oil several times a day and it healed with no scar, just very light skin. Once spring came around the light area tanned and it's not noticeable anymore.
