Just wanted to say for the record, (and not to dampen spirits, that's not what I'm about) a few things about my Chronic HCV in general. I'm 29 and tested positive for Hep C at 16. Being Canadian (access to free health care) I've monitored my condition over the years. It has been all over the map, and my blood work results quite often don't match how I feel. It's very difficult to tell what helps and what doesn't. For example, for two years I was homeless, living in a tent, using drugs, and everything that goes along with that. My levels etc. Seemed to show a marked improvement in liver function during that time, which baffled me. All in all, I go by how I feel, and now that I've been drug free for over 2 years I feel alright. The 2 biggest improvements I made to my health tho, were quiting smoking (constant lung infections have stopped completely) and cutting out salt and sugar, especially sugar. Another important step for my liver and overall health was getting off all the prescription meds doctors told me I needed. My life is so much better without them. Everyone beware Quetiapine/Seroquel! It's being handed out like candy to the addicted, the mentally ill, and people with sleep problems (tho it hasn't been tested for sleep).

I am interested in this BHT, wondering if it helps HCV, or if it has ever cured it. I will research it, but any info from anyone who's been "cured" of HCV by BHT would be greatly appreciated. Enough accronyms for one night!

To Sasha from Canada, BHT cured me of chronic hepatitis C with liver failure. But for it to work you need to keep it simple. By that I mean NOT mixing it with other treatments including milk thistle and such. The dosage used depends on how much you weigh and other things. Start with no more than 250mg of BHT per day. If you weigh less than 130 pounds that may be plenty enough. Vitamin B12 helps in a dose of 1mg wich is the same as 1, 000mcg [ micrograms ]. Vitamin E supplements should be AVOIDED, not taken. Do NOT drink grapefruit juice with this treatment. Do NOT take lysine supplements. It has worked very well for many if taken as recommended. Check out this websites archives about it here: https://www.earthclinic.com/remedies/BHT.html

I can attest to the fact that since I quit taking Milk Thistle, the BHT 350mg per day is working better. My Liver Function Tests have returned to near normal values, they were in the 300 range. I would also like to add that people who are taking Coconut Oil for the Monolaurin content need to be cautious as it can build up plaque in the ateries. I have since reduced my intake and am not feeling as sluggish. The simple use of BHT 350mg plus 1-4mg of B12 and Vitamin D3 500mg are helping as well. I also take Chanca Piedra 500mg with breakfast and it has drastically reduced the pain I have in the lower right lobe of my liver. I do take Oxycontin 10mg 3x in the night for pain for another condition and am surprised that my Liver Enzymes are near normal range and the GGT is 23.

This BHT is wonderful stuff, but I am noticing that the people with Chronic Hepatitis are having trouble compared to Acute Hepatitis but for the most it just takes longer to heal.

Art.

HI THERE....

Twelve month back I had shingles on my left chest and left shoulder blade.... The lesions went away in their time but I was left with horrendous PHN which has gone on for last twelve months...

Nothing has any affect on the level of pain which now ranges from 3/10 to 6/10 .. Fortunately it now spends most of its time around the 3/10...

I believe the pain is now finding its way through my lower back and legs.... I also have type two insulin dependant diabetes and thought this may also be neuralgia associated with diabetes rather than the shingles..

Can BHT be of any affect for this pain as in eradicating it or just as a preventative measure should I suffer another attack of the virus...

Dear Imready, Only trained chemists with access to some very expensive devises can test the purity of BHT or any other compound. It is NOT something a do it yourselfer can do.

Aside from that: How have you been doing ? I know you had a serious issue with ammonia build up in your blood. Have you experienced any improvement or not with the BHT treatment ? ...Oscar

We had to create a NEW Yahoo group because we were unable to add new moderators to the original group. This new group is essentially a continuation of the original group with the added ability to add new moderators.

We have made important new discoveries as to how best use the BHT treatment. Supplements and foods to avoid and NOT take include: Milk thistle and its extracts, Vitamin E supplements, and grapefruit juice.

Things that help with the BHT treatment include vitamin B12 and vitamin D and maybe the lipid monolaurin.

So please do join the NEW group if interested here:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/The_New_BHT_Cures_Group/

Please do NOT join the original or old group because you be instucted to join that NEW group I just posted a link to above.

As always I encourage all people trying the BHT treatment to post their results here at the EARTH CLINIC. This is the BIG forum where people are most likely to read what you have to report....Oscar

Has anyone had serious side effects from BHT?

BHT Overview
Posted by Oscar (Syracuse, New York) on 12/15/2012

We people over at the BHT cures group have come up with some important discoveries regarding the BHT treatment for hepatitis B and C. From the feedback available here at the EARTH CLINIC and over at the BHT CURES GROUP:

1. Do not mix or use other treatments and supplements including: milk thistle and it`s extracts and also do not drink grapefruit juice for best results. Taking vitamins in moderate dosages seems to be helpful. I know that may sound screwy to many people out there but that is what the feedback indicates. That grapefruit juice interacts with a very many drugs or medications in sometimes fatal ways. Most especially with statin drugs and many pain medications. The list of things grapefruit juice negatively impacts is amazingly long. And, the milk thistle seems to make the treatment not work very well.

2. The people showing the most dramatic improvement are using a dose of between 200mg and 350mg taken twice a day, in the morning and at night with water on an empty stomach. Not every one can tolerate that much but most adults can. For those that can`t the treatment simply takes longer but still works with smaller dosages.

For more information about BHT to treat hepatitis viruses go to: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/BHTcures/

But please do report your experience with this treatment here at the EARTH CLINIC.

Also and importantly: Anyone wishing to try this treatment needs to test themselves regarding sensitivity to BHT. Start with very low dosages and see how it effects you. Generally most people tolerate between 200mg and 700mg of BHT per day well, but not everyone. Those capsules can be easily sperated and smaller doses created by removing some of the contents of those capsules....Oscar

Dear Oscar, I am very new to this forum and having read all the posts I cannot belive that there is a cure for Hepatitis B. Over the years I have been told a number of times by many doctors that I have to live with this virus for the rest of my life. I have been diagnosed with acute Hepatitis B in 2003, so it's been now nearly 10 years or more as I really do not know when I cought the virus. I would like to try the BHT treatment but do you think I have chances of clearing the virus having been infected for so long? There is a lot mentioned about possible side effects but what are these? Is there a specific diet I should follow while taking BHT? Is it recommnded to tcombine it with other supplyments like Chanca Piedra And lastly, how long should the treatment last? I would much appreciate some advise.

BHT Overview
Posted by Truthbetold (Madison, Alabama, Usa) on 04/01/2013

I have been following the BHT threads and find them interesting and hopeful. I am trying to determine which is better to fight; Cirrhoris or the Virus. I have HCV (over 30 years now) 1b and I have Cirrhoris (early stage). My Liver Enzymes are AST-100 ALT-150 and they have fluctuated mostly down and then back up within this range for years. My platelet count has remained between 126 and 136 for years. My PT and INR run above range also. I am 60 years old, 220lbs weight, 6'5" Tall, and can be considered in generally good health, EXCEPT for HCV and Cirrhoris.

The VA (Veterans Administration) has tried to get me to go on the Inteferon and now the new treatment for many years. They say I am a good candidate but I feel they say that to everyone. My situation puzzles me because my viral load has never been above 225, 000 and has gone as been as low as 63,000. Currently it is at 175,000. I was told that viral load in my case has nothing to do with the damage to the liver.

The VA (Veterans Administration) wants me to consider starting their treatment with the new 3 drug therapy in August.

So question: I noticed you indicated that Milk Thistle hinders the BHT effect. That was disappointing to me because I was using Milk Thistle to protect the liver along with Alpha Lipoic Acid and some Selium. Now if BHT is to kill the virus and it takes patience and awhile to do so, AND if Milk Thistle is very good for the Inflamation of the Liver, then how do I handle this dilema.

I need to get the inflamation under control in the liver yet I need to kill or significantly control the virus to stop the inflamation! It is like a catch 22, UNLESS there are options I have not thought of.

I have been taking BHT for about a month or two (350mg twice a day - nothing else but a big gulp of water) I did notice that my platelets went up from 129 to 136 but then the darn labs moved the reference ranges up again. So now where I would have been in the low range I am now below the low range.

Other than being tired from time to time, I feel rather healthy, but the thought of Cirrhoris that I have and the inflamation in my liver is what concerns me.

In summary, your opinion (and anyone elses) on which of the two I should focus on most [Killing the HCV virus OR my Liver Inflammation?] It would be great if I could work on both and I suspect someone can provide experienced input.

Lastly, often in the posts, people do not indicate if they had Acute or Chronic HCV. Maybe I overlooked some of the references, but since Acute can come and go over various time limits, it would be helpful to understand the success with Chronic HCV, in my humble opinion.

Thank you for your past input, as I have researched many of your referenced files and links and have found them helpful. I am supposed to go in another 6 months to the VA for my next lab work and I will post what happens. I am hoping that I can get some valuable input before the next scheduled treatment at the VA in August to help in my decision.

You efforts are appreciated!

Dear Truthbetold from Madison, Alabama, I do remember you for sure. It is good hearing from you once again. I often do wonder about the different people I have been in contact with and hope they are well. I am NOT a doctor. As your doctors have told you your viral load count is very much in the low range. I notice some small improvement in that viral load count. All I can tell you is that taking milk thistle and or it`s extracts DOES make the BHT treatment much less effective. Why not give the BHT treatment a try without said milk thistle and see if that works or not. If it works you should see a dramatic drop in that viral load count in a very few months. You are relatively healthy. Stop taking milk thistle and lets see what happens. Also do NOT take vitamin E supplements. Vitamin E supplements have been proven to enhance the hepatitis C viruses` ability to replicate and should be avoided by people with hepatitis C for that reason.

Give that a try for say 3 months and if the hepatitis C is still showing up with little or no improvement then it is time to consider the NEW treatments that are in the pipeline and due to become available this year.

The good news is you are still quite healthy and have those 3 months to try the BHT treatment as recommended. If it does not work those new treatments will still be there for you. You seem to me a very strong and generally healthy person and need not be frightened. One way or another, with or without the BHT treatment you will find a treatment that works for you. I know you are a good man and will get through this one way or another....Oscar

Thanks Oscar, I will do BHT daily and see what happens without Milk Thistle. I will continue to do the ALA and Selium unless someone indicates otherwise.

Inquiry: Is there more information on the impact of milk thistle on bht results from your other referenced yahoo group? I will go there if there is more current and practical results, pros and cons, being discussed by the group.

I am still interested in results from those with Acute versus Chronic HCV, that is if the people seaching this out know this about their own case. Many people may not even know. I will keep searching various sites to see if anything comes up. I have not seen anything yet.

I will keep posting and following what's going on and if I can be of any assistance please let me know. I will do what I can.

Oscar, I forgot to address the liver inflammation issue. Do you or any other readers of the post know of a "good and proven" substitute for Milk thistle that will help with inflammation and liver cell regeneration? Like Boldo, Dandelion, Artichoke, etc. I just want to minimize cirrhocis damage while giving bht a valiant effort. I want to be nice to my sick liver :).

BHT Overview

Dear Truthbetold, I try very hard to provide the most up to date and reliable information available regarding BHT as a treatment for hepatitis C. This information is based on the feedback available from people trying this BHT treatment and a Univresity of Naples study regarding vitamins that help with this treatment. The vitamin B12 in daily doses of 1, 000mcg [ micrograms ] and the those that harm [ vitamin E because it was proven to ENHANCE the hepatitis C viruses` ability to replicate ]. Now you NEED some vitamin E. Just do not take vitamin E supplements. You get plenty enough vitamin E in a normal diet and have no need for the supplements.

Now, you have shown some small improvement with the BHT treatment while using milkthisle and or it`s extracts. You have held your own against this potentially dangerous hepatitis C infection and showed some small improvement. I do think using the BHT treatment as recommended has to be at LEAST worth a try. This milkthistle stuff greatly degrades the BHT treatment.

You asked about dandelion greens. As far as I know this has NO effect on the BHT treatment and should be OK to eat.

Now the fact that you showed some small improvement with the BHT treatment in spite of using milkthistle NOT because of it, is significant. You have been using the BHT treatment for about one year now. Most people with a hepatitis C infection get worse as time goes by, NOT in any way better.

Give the BHT treatment a try as recommmended at let us see what happens. I would be surprised if you do NOT show a dramatic improvement within a month or two. For a man your size [ over 200 pounds ] the recommended dosage of BHT is: 350mg of BHT taken twice a day, in the morning and at night with water on an empty stomach. Your freind and fellow veteran, ...Oscar

To Truthbetold, There is a doctor, Burton Berkson, curing liver disease, including cirrhosis, with ALA - alpha lipoic acid. Briefly, he stumbled upon it by accident giving it to a patient with only a few days to live. Completely restored his liver. Subsequently, he went on to administer it to others with cirrhosis and other types of liver failure, and it worked. His article was written in the Well-Being Journal Jan/Feb 2009 Volume 18, No 1. He added milk thistle and selenium as a support, calls the three items, his "cocktail".

Hi Oscar, Is it OK to take a coconut oil capsule instead of the tbsp of it? Thanks!

Dosage
Posted by Swfowkes (Cupertino, California) on 12/08/2015 46 posts
★★★★★

Carol, coconut oil is one of the most stable of oils. It is mostly saturated oil (the least peroxidizable oil there is), with some mono-unsaturated oil (pretty stable), and about 2% di-unsaturated (more reactive, but less than tri- tetra- and penta-unsaturated oils). So if you want oil in a capsule, coconut oil is a good choice. But coconut oil does not have a strong taste that most people need to hide.

Any oil can be poorly protected and go rancid over time. You can somewhat protect yourself from this by taste-testing the oil in the capsule. The first taste test is to puncture the capsule with a knife or the tip of a fork prong, squeeze the oil onto your tongue, and slide it back to the rear-center of your tongue. This is where the rancidity taste buds are located.

The second taste test involves examining your gag reflex. Rancid tastes trigger a gag reflex, so you can pay special attention to your gag reflex in response to brushing your teeth with the squeezed-out oil. If there is no aggravation of your gag reflex, and you cannot taste acridity, the oil is relatively safe.

I hope this helps.

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with HSV1 oral and genital just last month. My first outbreak was terrible and Valtrex (valacyclovir) had side effects which I would really rather avoid. thats why i've have been frantically searching the internet for things that could help and stumbled on this group through earthclinic.

its been 2 weeks since i've been off valtrex but i'm still tingling in my face and genital area. Scarily, I also have tingles along my spine and behind my eyes. I feel I need to be more proactive and have decided to try BHT as my best bet.

i'm an asian female, 5'4 and 110 lbs. I want to take BHT but I don't know how to go about purchasing it (i live in the Philippines) and am also concerned because I read (from Oscar's comments) that skinny people are more prone to neural side effects. well I am definitely skinny.

currently I am taking Lysine, ginger and garlic extracts and vitamins A, B complex, C and E.

someone please advise.

Oscar, I tried BHT two years ago and can't remember what I was taking at the time but do remember I was taking St. John's Wort, (hypericin?) which I'm not taking now. Now I am taking Vitamin C, Cayenne pepper, Bioflavonoids, Vit D3, Vit E, Vit B complex, Vit B12, Astaxanthin, Fish Oil and Armour Thyroid.

I take echinacea when I have an outbreak.

As I mentioned I did talk with Stephen Fowkes two years ago when I had the problem and he told me to stay on it and the reaction would clear up, but the reaction was so bad that I didn't want to take a chance he could be wrong and get myself in worse condition.

I really do want to try BHT again as I have quite a problem with herpes but am always responsive to natural remedies and believe it would probably work for me.

I so appreciate the time you are taking to answer questions.

Hi Oscar, I have tried to navigate the yahoo trip, but my email lists my name (unfortunate), and I don't know how to change that. This site is much easier, so I will try not to abuse the privledge in writing to you, specifically. I am also enjoying the EarthClinic group as a whole, very much.

Great info on last post. Thank you. Our local DAV is pretty weak, and we can't even get a good phone #, and have tried many. We are in Modesto. Marv's agent at VA is making him wait for SS decision first, and is not returning repeated calls. It all starts with this agent. We do need DAV's help, as have been told it takes 12 months to get any VA disability. Way too long to wait! Big runaround. At least the disability claims don't cancel each other out, you think. Will know more very soon, and will try to get a good blood panel on him, too.

RE: myself... That antibodies test is the one that is now reported to the CFDC and insurers. Didn't use to be that way. (AID's people have total privacy?! But not us?! ) Hence, my concern. Pre-existing condition, blah, blah, blah.... With my private insurer. I am not married to Marvin. I have my own financial reasons why not, but it means I am not insured through VA, though I am a Significant Other, a status they do not recognize the same way.

I will have to just plot my own course of action, and my numbers may have to wait until I'm certain I am clear. Sorry, can't help others with my numbers. And, I do suspect I am not clear of the 'happy virus. ' Having dealt with many addict/ alcoholics, I have seen this virus jump pretty darn fast to the partner. I just don't need that albatross to deal with around my neck, with my insurer.

My local paper had a front page story that all people of the baby boom generation should get tested for it. I see it as an 'experiment' done on us somehow, but then I have a rather suspicious nature! --T.

I wrote at the group suggested, but got no reply in my questions about ascites... over five days. Plus, it was difficult to manuever my way on that site. Personality clash, with a... Big Eater. Much like a difficult day with my sweetie!

However, so glad to hear about the distilled water concern, as it may have potential to pull out the BHT as an inorganic solid. Did you use distilled water at the time of your recovery?

Thank you, again, and I really pray he can pull out of this. He let it get a lot worse before became at all willing to do anything to try to help himself. --Wayseeker

Oscar... what an amazing man you are. So helpful!!! I just started 250 mg 2 x day for herpes 6/ Epstein Bar Viruses. It's weird because they say I have GH and I have never had a break out near my genitals or my mouth. I have sores all over my body tho and they heal very very very slow. I had shownn for MSRA a while back and I believe that is what I am fighting! I pray BHT will help MSRA as well as I have read some successes in this area. Have you heard of BHT helping with it?

OSCAR!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much. Well, I started taking BHT in January 2012 and my viral load was way high, today is 9/13/12 and I went to the doctor for my annual bloodwork and viral load tests. The ast and alt are lower than they were a year ago, the viral load is 8 million units lower. I was hoping for virus free, but am still hopeful. I was taking one 350 milgram daily, now I am taking 2 in the morning...

An hour later I take Liver & Bile extract which is powder and has milk thistle, dandelion and other important ingrediants in it... That was purchased through iherb for 14 bucks... Hoping that next year things are even better. I am hopeful and feel good. I eat healthy for the most part and I rarely drink. My downfall is sweets, not all the time but when I start to eat them its hard to stop... Exercising more now too. Thank you so much for hanging in there with this. I had spent thousands on Liver Life which is 56. A bottle and I wasn't getting worse but couldn't afford it... Thanks to you I can have hope, health and not go broke... God Bless you and your work, Lana

Dear Lana, Thank you so very much for reporting back in with the EARTH CLINIC with your response to the BHT treatment for hepatitis C.

I do want you and others to know that those reporting the best results do avoid milk thistle as a part of this BHT treatment. In my opinion certain milk thistle extracts combine with the metabolites of BHT in such a way as to make the BHT treatment much less effective....Oscar

Dear Oscar; OK, I am now off of the powder and only on BHT 700 mg in the morning. I found if I did it at night my mind was whacky, intense etc.. Not normal feeling. I also take R-Lipoic Acid 300 mg 3 times a day, do you think I should continue with that? Thanks sooooooooo much for the hope and health! Lana

Dear Lana, Lower the dose of BHT used whenever adverse effects are experienced. Take no more than 350mg of BHT per day and maybe less than that. 700mg of BHT per is too much for you. Many people are having very good results with the smaller dosages of BHT for a hepatitis C infection.

Please lower that dosage now....Oscar

Dear Alicia, Lower the dosage of BHT taken any time adverse effects are experienced. This dosage issue is different for each person and may change over time for each person. Whenever adverse effects are felt LOWER the amount of BHT taken....Oscar

This is to Oscar from Syracuse, New York: I would like to ask a question, I have plan to use BHT for the GW, but the problem is I can't find BHT capsules in my country. But I can get access to the bulk of BHT like pounds of it... funny!

Is there a simple way of measuring it like for 250 mg or 350 mg, for instance using fraction of teaspoon or so? Thanks for helping.

Dear Dimahfromme, If you live in the USA the measured capsules of BHT should be available. But I will answer your question: 1/8th of a TEASPOON of BHT = about 350mg of BHT. Now for all those buying BHT in bulk you NEED an accurate measuring device. Here is one company that sells them and I am sure there are others. Here is a link one such company: http://fantes.com/measuring-spoons.html

Hepatitis B as it was with C? I already bought a bottle of 250mg 500 capsules from Amazon.com. How much dosage/capsule(s) should I take per day. How long before I can get the undetectable results? Also, I brew my own Olive Leaf Extract water which also is effective against the virus, can I take BHT and push it down with OLE instead of regular water or does it really have to be water? Also, can I drink OLE right after BHT or do I have to wait an hour? Thanks for the feedback.

Hola oscar, cuando una persona va a camino a una recuperacion completa de HC, o sea el virus no es detectable, por cuanto tiempo mas una persona debe seguir usando bht, o puede discontinuarlo, cual es tu sugerencia. gracias.

EC: Hello Oscar, when a person goes to a full recovery way of HC, ie: the virus is not detectable, but how long a person should continue to use BHT, or may discontinue it, what is your suggestion. Thank you.

Dear Alicia from Syracuse, I am NOT a doctor. I still take BHT 6 years after I was told I have no testable indication I ever was infected with hepatitis C and B. I take 350mg of BHT per day. I do so because I have good reason to think it will protect me from many viral infections. What you do is up to you, not me....Oscar

EC: Hello Oscar, I'm very worried, what is the correct way to decrease the dose of BHT, I'm ordering capsules 200mg, if I have to lower the dose which is the right way, for all the times is the same extent as is 180mg in teaspoons, if I have to lower my dose, low dose has the same result, I want this virus out of my body, thank you.

Dear Whomever, If you wish to you can open these BHT capsules up by gently twisting and pulling the two ends apart. Then tap out a small amount of the BHT and push the capsule back together.

But this may not be necessary. One 200mg capsule of BHT per day is likely to be a safe dosage for most adults. You do want enough BHT to destroy those viral particles. You have to find a dosage you are comfortable with. I think 200mg of BHT per day is not too much for most adults, but if it is for you, you can open those capsules up like I just described. I want to see you get free of this disease very much and the BHT seems to work very well for many people....Oscar

Dear Joe, Yes, I do NOT even mention the other benefits of BHT including maintaining youthful appearing skin because I think people will think I am full of crap. I am now 63 years old. Within the last year I have been ID`d two times when buying alcoholic beverages. This was after I had dyed my hair that is grey now. Anyway, I laughed and told the sales persons: You HAVE to be kidding me. No, they said, I need to see your driver`s license. I showed them my driver`s license and bought my beverages. Now this only happens when I dye my hair. I think I look at least 40, but I am 63. And NO, I never had any sort of cosmetic surgery or treatments and do think those sales clerks must have had bad eyesight.

Anyway, yes: This BHT stuff will go a long ways in maintaining youthful appearing skin. It prevents free radical damage and cross linkage in skin tissues and that underlying fat layer of said skin tissues. The preservation of oils and fats was what BHT was engineered to do in foodstuffs and fuels and rubber. Things that have a high hydrocarbon content. It works in non-living entities and living entities with said high hydrocarbon contents. It is GREAT stuff. GET BACK and GET SOME!!! ... BHT ...Oscar
