Apple Cider Vinegar Dosages
Posted by Montcat12 (Monterey, Ca) on 07/12/2012
I think the reason Michelle S. lost so much weight has nothing to do with the ACV, but rather the 20 oz. of water in the morning and before dinner.
Many times, people eat because they mistake thirst for hunger, they overeat in response, and therefore gain weight. It has been shown in studies that people are normally functioning in a dehydrated state, more often than not. Additionally, if you are drinking 20 oz. of water right before you have dinner, it has nothing to do with the ACV but you taking up 2. 5 cups of volume in your stomach. Therefore, you feel full faster and eat less calories.
Bravo on dropping some pounds and getting hydrated, but if you really want to get healthy and not just "skinny, " I would recommend losing the junk food. Those are just empty calories with little to no nutritional value and if you have been that successful with your ACV regimen, you should be able to easily and slowly change your eating habits for incredible success.
Good Luck!

I had been feeling unattractive and tried every diet pill you can think of. I started to google around for natural methods of losing weight and stumbled on this site. That was back in March 2012 and it is now June 27 2012. Anyhow I started at 219 and I am now 192 which is a 27 lb drop with NO EXERCISE!!!
What I decided to do was 2 tsp of vinegar with 20 oz of water when I wake up and right before I eat dinner as well. I didnt change the way I eat, I dont exercise at all, and as a matter of fact ive been eating more fatty foods because the weight has been dropping like a miracle so I feel like I can pig out more. I wonder if I really eat right what will happen. I will report back when I decide to eat right but I am enjoying my mcdonalds, pizza hut, cinnabuns and all that stuff as the weight falls. I want to thank you for this miracle!! I use the apple cider vinegar from whole foods but you can use whatever u want... Also it was giving me a funny odor out of my skin so I bought some Perineal Cleanser Spray from walmart for 1.98 and ur supposed to spray it on but I just poured it in my body wash and shook it up and if some of you are getting a funny skin odor from using this stuff try that spray, im serious it works. Ok thank you im outta here!

Hi Cat - Obviously, I wouldn't expect ACV or any other product to help me lose weight on its own. That's just common sense.
I actually eat very clean - no sugar and no processed foods. I put about a half teaspoon of raw honey in my morning coffee, and that's it for the day in terms of anything sweet. And, I was drinking tons of water every day a decade before it became popular to do so.
I have always struggled with my weight (10 pounds, give or take). I am the type who gains five pounds just walking by a bakery. It seems it's a genetic-type curse. I had my thyroid checked years ago. Everything was normal, according to my MD. And, I certainly don't live a sedentary life either. I am always on the go.
My point in posting to the previous thread, was that I found it interesting that when I didn't take the ACV for a couple of days, I lost a bit of weight. (Keeping in mind that I'd taken the ACV every day for a year or more.)
I'll continue with the ACV for its other benefits, but my posture concerning its weight loss properties remain - I feel they are 'greatly exaggerated'. But then, as with many things, what works for one may not work the same for another.

Kelly from Cambridge, Ma - Kelly, I don't even think the fantastic apple cider vinegar will help our weight (and other health issues) unless our diets change in ways also. So many people these days consume what they consider 'food' and it comes out of a box, goes into the microwave etc when we all know this highly processed, high sodium 'food' is not really FOOD! You didn't say what you eat or go into any details but could this be the problem? Are you consuming plenty of fresh fruit/veges and drinking 2L water each day or eating processed goods?

I have used ACV every single day for about a year now for aches, pains and lowering my blood pressure. I haven't lost an ounce (unfortunately) during all the time I've taken it. I believe its weight-loss claims are 'greatly exaggerated'.
In fact, one week when I skipped two days, I lost 2 lbs! It made me wonder if it has the opposite effect on me.

re: SlimFast - the reason it didnt work for me is the 18 grams of sugar in a single can of it. Check the label. I am referring to original, regular slim fast and its competing store-brand products. Check the sugar grams.
To migrate toward healthier shakes and smoothies, switch to the high protein variety, then the same-brand protein mix after that, then step by step toward making your own blender creations at home. It will be less shock in the taste this way, and you will be able to know exactly what is in it.

You will have a winner if you swap the sugar in your sweet tea for local, raw honey. Refined sugar cancels out many health benefits. Tea, honey, ACV and lemon?? = a real health powerhouse. At the store or health food store, choose the raw honey that is made nearest to wherever you are, even if a neigboring state or bordering country. As a bonus, you are supporting nearby honey farms doing this instead of a giant corporate food conglomerate. Enough people do this, and it will catch on what the "buzz" is all about!

I'm a super busy graduate student with very little time to work out, and too much time spent sitting and reading notes/writing papers. I try to work out when possible, and to eat healthy, but time constraints and very limited funding keep me from doing so consistently.
I've decided to try ACV to see if I can yield any positive results to help me shed the weight I've gained from years of sedentary study.
I have been sipping the recommended 16 oz of water with 2 tsp of ACV (the B* organic raw-unfiltered apple cider vinegar with "the mother") with honey in it for a week and a day now (I started Monday April 24).
Almost immediately I noticed that my appetite shrank, I'm eating smaller portions, not having cravings for sweets. According to a calorie tracker I'm consuming less than 1400 calories a day, and only over the weekend did I have anything sweet. I also pee a lot but that isn't entirely unusual for me, so I'm unsure if it is related or not.
I don't have a scale, as they tend to breed more insecurity in me more than anything, so I can't track my progress that way. I may look into a cheap one soon. So far I haven't lost any inches, but it has only been a week so I'm still hopeful!
I'll try to post any progress, any advice would be welcome!

Caitlin, thankx for your inspiring post! Your food sensitivities and the stuff you needed to do spoke to me. I am 5'11", about 80-90 pounds overweight, hypothyroid, and currently trying to do many of your same things. Because of my size, I am supposed to drink 130 oz. Of water each day. It is easy to get the first 4-16 oz bottles down, but the second four bottles are a lot harder. Since finding out that EC is recommending drinking the ACV mixed w/water throughout the day, I need to switch my doses from morning and evening to sipping slowly throughout the day. Because of work and commute being 12 hours, getting the walking in is an effort, but anything in life worthwhile will be a bit of effort. Just wanted to say thx. And thank you EC for hosting this site for everyone. It is a wonderful place to come in very confusing (meidcally) times of our life.

Have you heard of Stevia? If you search Amazon you can usually find flavored Stevia, I am sure they would have grape (especially since they have flavors like root beer). It is healthier artificial sweetner, thus without all the bad press. I currently have cherry flavor and vanilla flavor; the former I add to lemonade, and the latter I add to coffee and some tea.

Fransisca from Zug, Switzerland, "The Mother" is referring to [organic] Apple Cidar Vinegar, it's raw and unfiltered which is why you have the floaters. I know it's available on amazon and a million other online shops, I'd send you a link but I'm in the U. S. and doubt that any sites I use would be helpful to you. I'm not sure if it's available in Europe if not just look for the same parameters: organic, raw, unfiltered and it should do the trick.

Janet, I have read a lot on this site about ACV with the mother and if I understand well "the mother" is something that floats in the vinegar. Well, here in Europe I have never, ever seen it anywhere and I travel to quite a few countries. ACV is sold in the supermarkets, pharmacies, health food stores but... Nowhere have I have seen any "mother". So, what are we to do? I just use organic one as it is either that or else the regular one, I assure you! Is the "mother" so beneficial... No idea as I have never seen it but when you don't have the choice either you ditch the stuff either you make do with the second best! Why we have no "mother"? My guess is as good as anyone else's, maybe here they think that the "mother" it is something highly dangerous.... That is usually now the reason to ban something!

First let me say that all apple cider vinegars are not equal!! The only one that "heals" is: ORGANIC RAW-UNFILTERED APPLE CIDER VINEGAR WITH "THE MOTHER"
This might sound rather strange.... But this is the real stuff... Trust me! You can buy it at a natural food store or at hip supermarket. I have found it at chain stores as well.
Having grown up in Woodstock N.Y. in the 1960's, I was part of the pack that used this to cure everything from sour stomach to losing weight to getting rid of yeast over growth as well as healing your gums and as a healthy hair rinse. It is also great for dog and cat hot spots and other pet skin problems. Plus... it will actually benefit them if they lick it!

FLAVOR, WEIGHT LOSS, ENERGY, PAIN RELIEF.
I never thought I could get used to the flavor of apple cider vinegar (GAG!! ). So I got a small juice glass and put 1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and fill it to the top with organic apple juice or apple cider. Funny thing happened. After a week I noticed the flavor not bothering me so much. I use a shot glass instead of a juice glass now and the flavor doesn't bother me at all.. In fact I kind of like it (and my daughter used to laugh at me gagging over it). You DO become accustomed to the flavor. In fact it just tastes like apple juice with a "bite" now.
I also have noticed another funny thing. I had a really bad night the other night during a thunder lightening storm and only got an hour's sleep. I woke up expecting to be exhausted all day. At midnight that night I realized had a super high energy day, got tons of stuff done and I STILL wasn't tired! I attribute my high energy (even with no sleep) to the ACV. It gives amazing energy!
And for weight loss: I was losing weight with it when I took it at LEAST 20 minutes BEFORE meals. When I started taking it AFTER meals, my weight loss stopped, I even gained a pound. So whoever wrote that if you take it BEFORE you LOSE, AFTER you GAIN.. Was absolutely right. I take my first shot with juice before I take my shower. Then by the time breakfast is ready, it's been 30 minutes or longer that it has had to go to work on the fat stores. And watch how your clothes fit, not the scale! I lost a full size, but only 4 pounds in the first week. If you watch the scale, you'll be disappointed... Fat doesn't weigh much, and you burn it off with vinegar.
My last benefit I noticed was my joints don't ache! I have rheumatoid and this stuff is just amazing. Flexibility and pain reduction. This is truly a miracle when you consider it is less than $5 a bottle and it lasts a long time. _____'s is the only vinegar I buy. Be sure to shake well before drinking and DO NOT refrigerate. It will keep for YEARS in the cupboard.

It is not healthy to drink Apple Cider Vinegar straight without diluting it as it can ruin your teeth. To see how dangerous try this experiment, pour vineger mixed with water into a kettle up to height of scale and leave overnight and then check the following day and see how sparkling clean your kettle is, all the scale has gone... This is exactly what can happen to your teeth, the enamel wears off with constant use of acv... so best to drink the Apple Cider Vinegar with a straw and then rinse mouth with water for safety.

When I first started using ACV back in 08' I lost 5 solid pounds. And that is where I sat for 3 years, jumping around 175-180 until this Oct, 2011.
I knew what my problem was: I was trying to lose 60 pounds without giving up the junk food I CRAVED. I was also eating everything I was allergic to that kept my weight on : nuts, milk, wheat, corn, oats, diet sodas, excess salt, sugar). The ACV just couldn't do it alone. Then suddenly, the coconut oil tablespoons I was ingesting on a daily basis (even knowing that I'm allergic to nuts) began giving me heart aches & high BP, a sure sign of allergic inflamation.
Sooooo... I did 5 important things this October and lost 19 lbs in 2 months.
1st: I read a book about wheat bellies and became inspired!
2nd: I stopped eating everything from the above list.
3rd: I cut my ACV down to 2 tsp morning and bedtime.
4th: I limited my daily diet to 9oz meat, loads of veggies, & 1 fruit (I have type-2 diabetes).
5th: I lightly exercise 15-20 minutes (stretching, exercycle, light weights) 5-6 days a week.
How do I look? WAY SMALLER, HEALTHIER & YOUNGER. Do I miss junk food? You betcha! Do I cheat? 1 meal with dessert, once a month and we don't take home the doggy bag. My mind is clearer and so is my skin. My waking blood sugar vascillates between 89-101. My blood pressure is 125/69 with a pulse of 58. Those numbers are fantastic! My sugar reading alone was once riding as high as 300.
Also, I only use the coconut oil on my skin now; I've come to the conclusion that digesting it just doesn't fit my genetics. I believe that there comes a time when we all must decide - healthy or not. Not is the worst way to go because being unhealthy, unfit, and fat can drag you down from how you feel about yourself when you just go to try on cute clothes, to how your brain thinks, to how you move, to being the worst example for your kid/s. So, my buddy (hubby) and I are DOING IT! (You should see him! ) The weight is finally, after 16 years (56 now), coming off. There's ways to go BUT, I'm staying on course because I'm so excited about what I see in the mirror and what I feel is going on inside of me.... POSITIVE LOOOOOVE! Peace out to all and Happy New Year! ....CAT

I copied this info from an article online....
The mother is the dark, cloudy substance in the ACV - formed from naturally occurring pectin (fiber) and apple residues - it appears as molecules of protein connected in strand like chains. The presence of the mother shows that the best part of the apple has not been destroyed. Vinegars containing the mother contain enzymes and minerals that other vinegars may not contain due to over processing, filtration and overheating. ACV ranges in color from a light golden to orange. You'll know you've found natural ACV if you see sediment, referred to as the "mother" on the bottom of the bottle. The bottle should be shaken prior to use.

Apple Cider Vinegar can & will increase your Stomach Acid causing Gerd/Indigestion so if it burns your stomach neutralize it with milk or baking soda & discontinue the ACV, the only people that benefit fully from acv are those with low stomach acid. So if you get a burning sensation it means you have too much stomach acid. You can take a splash of ACV in a gallon of water & sip it through the day, this will help not get the acid reflux. Or I have taken it with baking soda & that also works because baking soda neutralizes it. Acv also lowers blood sugar & that could be the reason your so hungry. Hope this helps.

I started taking ACV for what I suspect is candida. I feel better and I am also losing weight. I am 5'7, 148 lbs, 39 yrs old. I mix 2 teaspoon with water, and a small tsp of honey to help the taste, in the morning after breakfast. It stops the nauseaus feeling I've been having from candida, but also seems to curb my appetite. I don't have the urge to eat so much carb or huge portions. It just makes it easier to eat healthy and less. Also it seems my water retention problem is getting better.

I'd try to dilute the ACV with just water (2tbs in 8oz of water x3 a day). Adding cool-aid to me sounds counterproductive with all those empty calories. If anything try to add some honey to the concoction, but try not to go over 2 tbs. The key for weightloss for me is frequent meals high in protein low in carbs w/ lots of greens and water in between.

What worked for me and weight loss with ACV is this...
mixing 2 tablespoons ACV with mother in 8 oz of lukewarm water and sipping this through the day in between meals.
It helps you stay/feel full so you eat less during meals and hence lose weight.
It also is very good for your gut with bacteria, etc so it is beneficial in losing weight.
Additionally, I stopped eating rice, potatoes and friend foods. Stuck mainly to veggies and lean protein with occasional piece of fruit twice weekly.
You must change your eating habits to lose weight with ACV and incorporate some form of walking 45 mins daily to get the body moving.

I just wanted to be clear as I want to try this. Do you put 2 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in a 8oz tea, like green tea or 8oz of water and drink it like a tea? I was doing the cold or room temp acv/water mix as intructed on the b----- Apple Cider Vinegar bottle, but apart from burning and feeling nasty I saw no health benefits at all. I also started drinking tea throughout the day and this alone makes me urinate often. I wonder if combining my green tea with 2tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar would be beneficial. Hope you reply.

Hey Taaz, As a dental professional, drinking the apple cider mix is best ingested through a straw. However, while sipping understand that when sugar or acid is introduce into the body, it will continue to show it self through saliva that washes over your teeth throughout the day. You must brush no less than twice a day especially before you go to bed, thats when damage will occur due to (0) liquid flow in the mouth and always increase water intake throughout the day. This will decrease acid or sugar damage to the oral cavity

IF you do not seem to be losing much weight taking ACV then you have a build up of yeast in your system. You must get rid of the yeast before your body can function properly. NO SUGARS not even natural in fruits and tomatos and NO artificial sweetners either. No dairy except cottage cheese and very little if any butter. No Breads or anything like crackers or chips or anything coated with yeast. Read the label. Lot's of water and ACV taken reponsibly.
I also do a colon cleanse along with the candida diet and I have lost a total of 75 lbs. The weight continues to come off.

This is in response to Angelina from Toronto and Deborah from Houston. Are you both using organic ACV with the "mother" still in it? If you're using a pasteurized form of ACV or a filtered ACV, you're not using the right kind. Also if you put the vinegar in warm or hot water (above 118 degrees), you're killing vital enzymes. Furthermore, less is more. Cut back on your nighttime dose to back to 2tsp for the 16oz of water, Angelina. For Deborah, you should consider changing your dose to the same - 2tsp per 16oz of water. (Do not drink it with the tea unless the tea has cooled. )
Lastly if this doesn't work for you, not everyone's body is meant to consume vinegar. You might have other issues that need to be addressed first (such as Candida). Also, look up information about what foods to eat for your blood type. Some folks are not meant for vinegar (and alcohol).

Hi all. As mentioned before the required dose for weight loss is 2 teaspoons in 16 oz of water which is to to be sipped over the course of the day. My question is, since the Apple Cider Vinegar can cause damage to the enamel when do I rinse/ brush my mouth after taking the solution. I haven't started the remedy as yet, however I do understand that it is recommended that the solution be sipped through a straw. Hello! I ran across ACV for weight loss last year when I was desperately trying to lose weight before my trip overseas. I read tons of testimonials and went right out the next day and bought the ACV. A little about my weight: I'm female, 23, and in decent shape. I am 5'7'' and at the time weighed in at about 160. I have never been obese but am VERY curvy and had a spare tire I wasn't proud of. I was pretty active, but a total slouch at an exercise routine (usually I just walk places, or bike)
Either way, I was a teacher, and I showed my friend at work this site. We went on the ACV together. We first tried the 2 teaspoons in 16 oz cold water (I drink NOTHING but water!!! ) but found it to be a little too gross. Since we're both fans of tea, we tried around 2 teaspoons in 8oz, with a bit of honey, served warm. Delicious! Tastes a bit like warm apple cider. The pounds started dropping off. It wasn't that I tried, but I was subconsciously eating less, of healthier foods. I found more energy as well! I lost eleven pounds the first month!!! One of my favorite stories is the "candy" story I like to tell skeptics of ACV. I am a HUGE fan of candy and eat it waaaay too much. During my "slim down for Sweden" I used to eat my favorite candy (won't mention the name but it's our favorite peanut butter mixed with chocolate cup! ) all the time. I had a teacher friend who would give me this treat in exchange for watching her class--I could never turn them down. Well, one morning I hadn't eaten breakfast yet (while on the ACV breakfast was always something healthy; fruit or an egg, etc) this morning I didn't eat anything but was sipping my usual cup of ACV. When the friend brought me my chocolate and peanut butter cup, I gobbled it down. And immediately felt barf. I couldn't believe it. After the "flushing" effect of the ACV, the sugars, the fats, the oils... Everything in that candy suddenly had a whole new taste.
ACV is amazing for awakening your senses to what you put in your body. I usually ate both "cups" in less than a second, but I found myself unable to finish the first one, and gave the second one to one of the kids in class. By the time Sweden hit, I had lost 20 pounds and looked SEXY!!! I wrote this testimonial to re-motivate myself (slacked off this year on ACV) and to hopefully motivate others. This stuff really does work! And you don't even have to be patient to see results, just give it like a week and you'll feel clothes fitting better. Oh, and I am an extremist and overdo EVERYTHING, so I've since doubled the amount of ACV I use. Sometimes I pour a nice tall glass of OJ and put about 2 tablespoons in that. The acid of the OJ completely obliterates the taste of ACV. And boy, the combo REALLY gives you an energy jolt in the morning. Try it as an alternative to coffee or an energy drink! And good luck in everyone's efforts. :)

★★★☆☆WORKED TEMPORARILY
I also experienced weight loss with ACV (about 10-15 pounds, I'm not very overweight), but then noticed the weight loss stopped, and I have gained a bit. I'm wondering why. I know the ACV has other benefits too, but wonder why the weight issues after a year's use.

This is in reply to "Ank" from Virginia regarding ACV & weight loss. As with any new supplement, the results will vary from individual to individual. In the case of ACV it is a slow process that changes your metabolism which encourages weight loss. Typically one would expect to yield results in 3 - 6 months for weight loss. It is the long term benefits that you should desire by using ACV, you know that stuff you dont actually see. If you are looking for a quick 7 - 10lb drop then ACV is probably not your best choice. Best of luck to you.

I could not handle it in water either it made me want to vomit. I started taking straight shots of it until I read about someone adding it to juice. I will add 2tbls to about 16oz of grapefruit or orange juice(only juices I like) & you can't even taste it. My husband drinks it in Apple so I'm assuming any juice of your choice would work. Make sure you use a straw to get past the teeth as it does break down enamel. Hope this helps!

Hi Dr...
If you do that, it will work, but most people take a couple of tablespoons at a time, 2x a day. After prolonged exposure, your teeth and throat might not like it. If you put 2 tablespoons of ACV in the bottom of a glass, and add 1/2 of a TEAspoon of baking soda to it.... And let it sit until it stops foaming, then add water (about 8 - 10oz) and a splash of Orange Juice or Apple Juice, (or any type of juice - about 2 oz) I swear you will not even notice the ACV! Just give it a try.... Oj is best for masking the taste in my opinion.
It is really worth the effort. I don't even really measure anymore, I just dump this and that and all good. Been taking it for about a year, and loving it.
