Avoiding bitter taste of grapefruit seed extract

Years ago I took so much GSE that I purchased it by the quart. That was before the prices increased. My best advice to anyone who takes it orally is this: fill a 00 gelatin capsule with as may drops as you need and swallow with lots of water. No bitter taste, provided you swallow quickly, before the capsule starts to melt!

Citricidal = 60% grapefruit seed extract and 40% vegetable glycerin. The above is what is stated in Nutribiotic, Maximum GSE Liquid Concentrate 'Citricidal' is a certain strength of GSE (60%), mixed with 40% glycerin. That's what it clearly indicates in the Description of it, on the company website: Https://www.nutribiotic.com/maximum-gse-liquid-concentrate.html

ON THE OTHER HAND ... NutriBiotic Vegan Grapefruit Seed Extract Liquid Concentrate contains a lesser percentage of GSE: Grapefruit Seed Extract 33%. -and- vegetable glycerine (67%). Https://www.nutribiotic.com/gse-liquid-concentrate-2oz.html.

BOTH products DO contain Grapefruit Seed Extract! One is stronger than the other. The lesser strength is what I purchase to use with small children & small animals, because they are to receive no more than one drop of it per serving ... and if I were to use the stronger strength, I would have to divide a drop of it each time I want to use it for them!

To Linda -

GSE has been successfully used in a nebulizer to heal lung and bronchial infections. Some have had symptoms unaffected by doctor-prescribed antibiotics, disappear in less than a day.

Use 1-2 drops GSE in 1 oz saline water in nebulizer.

I have been in agony for almost a week and my GSE doesn't seem to be working. Many thanks in advance.

For Pavla - I buy my GSE from Amazon - both tablets and liquid. The brand is Nutribiotic, and we use the 250mg tablets, one twice a day for most minor ailments. The liquid is trickier since you have to ensure that it contains Citricidal to be useful - only the Nutribiotic Maximum liquid contains Citricidal. I use the liquid to stop oncoming sinus infections.

What I do is: 1 drop GSE in 2 fluid ounces of distilled water (I boil water for 5 minutes, then pour into a mason jar, cover and let cool before screwing the lid on).

Use one full eye dropper of the mixed solution per nostril. Do this over the sink - Tilt your head back and release half the solution from the dropper into your right nostril and the rest in your left. Swing your head forward and down (head is now upside down) to force solution up into nasal passages. Return head to the normal upright position and allow nasal passages to drain.

Do not inhale through the nose during this process. Don't forget to always, always dilute!!!

I want to share with you a discovery that has changed my life. A few years ago I realized that after brushing when I rinsed with one drop of grapefruit seed extract (must have citricidal in the ingredient list) and a mouth full of water that all the pain in my mouth went away, my gums stopped bleeding and I never had morning breath. When I ran out of the extract I ordered more and noticed right away that the product tasted different and in a few weeks all my pain and issues returned, I went online and low and behold everyone was complaining that they had reformulated it and it was no longer effective.

Lucky for me, I found that the old formula was still available in a maximum strength version with the all important godlike ingredient citricidal in the product. I ordered it right away and was relieved to find my teeth pain went away again. I think this is hands down the best product you can get for tooth pain and dental health in general. I've spread the word to family and friends and they all have had the same results that I have discovered. I have not had to have a single cavity filled in three years now and that is an incredible change for me considering how things had been before this discovery. If I eat a lot of sugary snacks and start having pain again I have to completely cut out all sugar, sometimes I have to rinse with the extract three times a day for a few days to a week before I get control of the pain again but miraculously it always works.

If you add glycerin free tea tree oil toothpaste and a few drops of trace minerals to your toothpaste or mouthwash and your bottled water, stop eating sugar and grains and eat lots of fresh alkalizing fruits like kiwis and grapefruits and fresh vegetables and quality protein your teeth will start to remineralize and those little cavities will fill in. But in the meantime even if you have some gnarly cavities the extract seems to completely kill all the bacteria in the mouth that is causing the pain in those sensitive areas.

Warning, always rinse with this highly potent extract after brushing and never before and never use it on your toothbrush as it is highly acidic and could temporarily soften teeth enamel for 30 minutes or even longer after use and always only use one drop in a mouthful of water or it will burn a little on your tongue etc.

This might be the best kept secret in dental care, I have tried everything, salt rinses, clove oil etc. Nothing compares to the instant relief that I get from this extract. My mouth has that acidic feeling, stretched out pain in my cheeks like I've just blown up ten balloons sometimes. And my whole mouth tingles and feels absolutely perfect for many hours, even waking up in the morning with no morning breath. I also do oil pulling with olive oil which I believe is the most soothing of oils and also the most anti bacterial and is the best choice for oil pulling, add a few drops of trace mineral drops to the oil to help remineralize, for the first time in my life I think I may never have to have a tooth filled again.

After suffering with chronic dental issues my whole life, this is saying a lot. Unfortunately grapefruit seed extract is controversial, some claim that it is not a natural supplement at all and that the citricidal is a strange bi product of the processing of the seeds and that it is closer to a medicine that should be regulated, this is probably the reason that it has been reformulated unfortunately making the new formula sadly not effective. I trust my gut on this one. If you are lucky enough to have found this review, do yourself a favor and order yourself some of this stuff and spread the word. Tooth pain is one of the worst things humans experience in this existence, lets spread the love and share this remedy with everyone we know.

Some say all disease starts in the mouth, much love to you all and I hope you have many days of good health ahead of you.

I recommend putting like 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract in a spray bottle of very warm water, shake it up and spray any hard surfaces. It is great for sterilizing make up brushes and utensils, etc. you can put it in your laundry too.

I put grapefruit seed extract dilluted with warm damp cotton pad.

Today I used 6 drops GSE with spoonful coconut oil and a capsule of activated charcoal on a flat cotton pad and taped it to my neck on what I thought was a spider bite, but the level of itchiness has me mega concerned and additional bumps around it. I'm catching it VERY early, so I will continue this until its gone. I recommend this combo for your grandma's knee. Do it everyday until its gone. Change it often

FWIW, sea salt, any kind will also give instant relief to acid reflux. I stumbled into a few years ago, and brought a small container to a weekend seminar in Albuquerque in 2012, and folks seen me using it and they wanted to try it too, lol, but it was good for all interested. I carried it in a small 15-ml nalgene bottle on the ready at a moments notice. I no longer need it, cuz I got a hold of some of my dietary issues. Anyways, others had relux and needed the salt and so were grateful, and I was glad to share.

My 1st instance of hearing about diverticulitis, was at the nurses office at a company I worked for in the 1980's, her reco to my complaint of burning in gut area was to eat more roughage and she was right. Adding apples to the diet got rid of the burning and pain, I was un-yet wise to the natural ways of eating to rid the body of its' ills, but never the less it was very good advice, no recos for anything chemicals from the nurse, and so good for her!

I started taking GSE for a UTI after nothing else had worked. For 2 weeks I took 6 tsp a day of D-mannose, about 700 billion cultures of probiotic a day (very high, not recommended if you are toxic) and 6 tsp a day of alkalising salts (very high, I built up to this level over months during an alkalising programme).

Miraculously, the GSE started to heal this very stubborn UTI infection that had been causing me a fair amount of pain and discomfort. When I started the GSE, I was desperate to heal the UTI so I took 40 drops every 2 hours and began to see a difference within hours. I upped the dose to 80 drops every 2 hours and within 24 hours I was completely pain-free. Then I gradually reduced and started intuitively dosing using muscle testing and came down to 50, then 40, etc and, after a week, am currently on between 2-5 drops every 2 hours.

The (very happy! ) side effect of all this GSE is a lump on my arm that I'd had for 8 years (it was an ingrown hair bump that had swelled up and never gone away) is now completely flat after just 8 days of taking the stuff.

The skin on my face looks amazing - clean, clear, fresh.

My head feels amazing - I no longer feel groggy in the mornings (this must be that the candida have been reduced). To put into context, I eat a mainly vegan, grain-free, sugar-free, high raw diet, so didn't think I had that much candida to start with but I must have done, since the difference after a week or so of GSE has been amazing and I feel wonderful now.

The whites of my eyes are whiter.

I feel calmer, more balanced, clearer thinking, cleaner inside somehow.

All in all I am a complete convert - it's brilliant stuff! I have just started my 15 year old daughter on GSE to help heal her acne and will report back on progress in a few weeks. She will be taking 15 drops 2 times a day.

Grapefruit seed extract is NOT entirely natural. There's a hidden ingredient that is toxic...Before balking and saying I'm wrong, look it up for yourself. Other forums are talking about it.

Just google "grapefruit seed extract is not natural it is toxic" to find the evidence you need. Most people who find this out stop using it immediately.

I have been using GSE in capsules for 2 weeks. I was putting 10 drops/capsule 2-3 times daily. Today I upped the drops to 20/capsule before lunch and felt even better than with the 10 drops. I always take with 8 to 16 oz of water that I also use to swallow the capsule with. I only use Nutribiotic(tm) GSE it only has glycerine(67%) and GSE (33%). I am using it for Fungus overgrowth. I had severe heartburn before beginning to use the GSE; now, not at all. I also put it full strength on toenail fungus and just started today to put it full strength on a wart I got a few months ago.

Grapefruit Seed Extract Toxicity
Posted by Prioris (Fl) on 09/30/2014
★☆☆☆☆

WARNING!

I don't want to scare everyone with a warning but this is something to be made aware of when taking GrapeFruit Seed Extract. It also explains why it may work or not work.

I was looking to see what the active ingredient in grapefruit seed extract is and I came across this.

"But a new review published in the American Botanical Council (ABC) journal HerbalGram claims that many, if not most, GFSE products on the market today contain synthetic preservatives, microbicides and disinfectants that are not necessarily listed on their labels.

The idea behind GFSE is that it contains natural antimicrobial, antiseptic and alkalizing properties that render it highly beneficial in a variety of clinical applications. Many GFSE users who take it internally say it has helped eliminate chronic infection, clear up colds and sinus infections, and even cure candida and other yeast and fungal overgrowths inside the body.

But the new review, compiled by Dr. John H. Cardellina, Ph.D., a natural product, organic, medicinal and analytical chemist, suggests that most commercially-available GFSE products contain synthetic chemical components that are the true active ingredients. Actual grapefruit seed extract, suggests the review, does not contain antimicrobial properties, and is not the ingredient responsible for the beneficial effects that users experience."

http://www.naturalnews.com/036125_grapefruit_seed_extract_chemicals_adulterated.html#ixzz3Epwb7k00

I have heard people say it contains toxins so one shouldn't take it too long. Now I understand just what that really means.

I did limit my intake to 1 week due to the warning of toxicity. Understand that we eat toxins every day from the foods we eat. There are toxins in Aloe Vera juice. This is why I can't take the juice. It doesn't stop people from raving about the wonderful benefits of the juice. I am more sensitive while others are not.

There are toxins within the herb Uvi Ursa that I took to knock out a idiopathic bladder infection in short time. I would take it in a heart beat again. So we need to put toxins in perspective. It comes down to making sure it doesn't build up in the system too long. A week is a reasonable amount of time to try it.

"It was discovered that the ethanol-extracted GFSE contained no antimicrobial chemicals, while many of the commercial GFSE products contained some or all of them."

This may be why it may work for some people and not others.

"In a 2007 study the main synthetic antimicrobial agent identified in commercial GSE samples was benzethonium chloride"

I would think you would have to look for a non ethanol extracted GSE.

Sinus Infections
Posted by Bdakne12u (Hawaii) on 02/20/2014

I am now trying GSE on my cat- that seems to have ringworm fungus on his ears. It is non poisonous to cats- where the feline has no enzyme to process the chemicals in essential oil- as in phenols& terpenes or limolene which is orange oil. I just read that oil of oregano is good for people and sheep with ringworm fungus- but a cat can't have the terpenes in oregano oil- the specific terpene is (? spelling? -thymisol) but that being in oregano, & thyme was good as an oil extract for people with ringworm or other fungus on the skin.

I suggest organic coconut oil swished in mouth and spit out after 10 minutes, after brushing teeth at night. Works to stop mouth and tooth smell and decay. It is lauric acid- so it is a bit drying to skin and hair. Sinus infections advice is why I found this thread- I liked the hydrogen peroxide and 3 drops GSE-grapefruit seed extract.

THE FIRST THING ABOUT GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT "GSE" you should know is yes, it is very acidic, so it should be diluted when taking it orally,

I have been using GSE for around 9 years now and was introduced to it by my friend when I was working on cruise ships. there was a flu bug of some kind going around or a parasite, and every time I ate I felt ill for about 2-3 hrs and felt generally unwell, after a few days of doctors remedies doing nothing I decided to give it a try, I took 15 drops 2x a day mixed in juice or water, (eventually I learned how to hold some water in my mouth and drip the GSE in the water and swallow quickly).... after about 3 days the symptoms subsided but I stayed on this regimen for 2 weeks, about a month later the other crew members were still suffering with those symptoms but mine never returned.

I also use it for keeping colds and stomach bugs at bay, like I said when you feel the symptoms start taking it right away, I am a big guy 225lbs at 6'2" so I usually ingest 20 drops 2x a day when I start to feel ill. Of course I will still get colds sometimes it works and I don't (it's not magic) ... but I do notice I am better much quicker than everyone else.

As for the mouth .. yes no more than 1-3 drops MAX on a toothbrush mixed with your toothpaste, 3 drops is the extreme and a lot of toothpaste is necessary, DO not overbrush it won't help.... rinse well after... Enjoy GSE try it for many things and be careful... I am NOT a doctor these are just personal experiences I am sharing, do your research and consult Naturopaths if neccessary... and see a GP if you have serious conditions.... Thank you, Dave

Diverticulitis and acid reflux: I want to thank each and every person that gave their experience on GSE and diverticulitis. My first attack was in 2009 terrible experience, from being a healthy and in good shape 60 yr. old, after this I couldn't even have a normal life. In 2010 had 5 attacks:3 were hospitalizations and 2 more attacks, since I knew the routine I asked dr's I would do treatment at home, 5 times taking terrible antibiotics and terrible pain. That's when Surgeon talked about having to have surgery. Then in December of that same year, read this site - sent from heaven- and even though skeptic about it sent for GSE liquid. Followed the 3 x a day 15 drops for 1 week. Pain and symptoms completely went away. Have not even seen a Dr. for this condition ever since. At the first sign of the discomfort I take 12-15 drops once a day for three, four or five days and that's it. It is worth every cent paid for. I also use the honey and vinegar every day- has helped me with my acid reflux-this plus eating papaya fruit, there is no need for me to take the "protonix" pill that I was prescribed and told that I had to have for the rest of my life. Thankful also to earth clinic and wishing the best to all, and thanking you dearly. God Bles each and one of you.

I need to praise this product, but where do I start.

I lost all faith in Doctors after having Breast Cancer and then a bad infection Cellulitis. I was given the most powerful antibiotics and was very ill. Even after I recovered I always felt slightly unwell and my breast was always tender. I put this down to Lymph Fluid build up in my breast. I mentioned this to my Oncolgist but I wasn't offered any treatment. I just tried to get on with my life and be grateful that I was still here.

I accidently came across GSE on the web and thought I might try it although I do hate taking even a pain killer. What a difference it made. In less than a week I felt so much better. I thought I must be imagining it (placebo effect) so I stopped after a month. Same symptoms reappeared. I now take one capsule every day and use it topically in liquid form. So far it has cleared in 24hrs my husbands cold sore. I put it on hang nails and any cuts and grazes on my damaged arm. It has stopped my husbands bad breath from gum desease 2 drops on his toothbrush every morning. I always take it abroad to calm upset stomachs. I would use it on anything and will never be without it. I have a 25ml bottle in my handbag now. I never see my G. P. I now cure myself. Thank goodness I found Grapefruit Seed Extract.

If you are using Grapefruit seed extract for candida, here's the formula that worked for me.

The extract MUST be organic, AND without alcohol... Non organic versions do not cover the full spectrum of anti-fungal/biotic/parasitic properties... on average it is 70% less effective.

15 drops 3 x a day 20mins before food.

Diet.
standard anti candida diet for 2 weeks, strictly.
the next 2 weeks, 3 days on the diet, 1 day off
the next week, 2 days on, 1 day off
final week, 1 day on, 1 day off.

After you're clear, for maintenence, take 10 drops first thing am, and 5 drops last thing pm and have 1 strict anti-candida diet day every week, but really try to keep your daily diet alkaline. As candida thrives in an acid environment.

Courtney I have just read my post and it sounds harsh so my apologies for that. The regulations that our governments want to bring in are not going to help us to make our own free choice as the regulations will limit small makers of products. In Australia you buy supplements and we don't even know what added ingredients are in them. It is the same with food if the ingredient is less than 5% and not a know common allergen then it does not have to be listed. The only regulation I would like to see is all the ingredients listed so we know what we a taking into our bodies and puting on our skin, which after rereading your post I think that is what you are talking about also. Sorry for my overreaction.

The only regulation that will help us to know whats in the products is 100% truth in labeling, this should also include food, medications and body products. Unfortunately this is not in the regulations you talk about.

... Which is exactly why regulation is a GOOD thing. No one would have to "wonder" what ingredients are present, not present, good, bad, etc.

I certainly don't favor regulations in general, but for what we are putting into our bodies, HELL to the yes - that should be regulated so that we can make informed decisions.

I know that there are some scary articles on the internet about grapefuit seed exctract. Difficult to know who is telling the truth! Sometimes sites demonize other supplements only so that they sell their own. As I said here before I bought it after talking to the lady in the pharmacy who told me that a friend of hers, a biologist, told her that if she was going to a deserted island and could take only one item she would take GSE. This is the second bottle I bought, always in the pharmacy. This one says that it is a source of bioflavonoids and Vitamin C. It also says that it is of natural origin. The contents are vegetable glycerin, water, Vitamin C and GSE. The bad part is that GSE is the last ingredient, meaning that it has more glycerin and water than GSE. To be honest one has no way of knowing who is right and who is wrong!

Hi Ds, I am as confused as you are, don't worry! It is true that begining of this year I had high liver enzymes. After that I took GSE for a while, 10 drops a day, without knowing of any connection with liver enzymes. A short while ago I went to the doctor and my liver enzymes were good. Will it have made a difference? I noticed that GSE calmed my sinuses. According to a book I have on the subject it is a great supplement. I read some bad things on the Internet but I asked the lady in the pharmacy and she told me that a friend of hers, a biologist, told her that if she could only take one thing to a deserted island she should take GSE. That is when I started to take it. I finished the first bottle, stopped for a while and was intending to take another bottle in a while.

But well, this seems to go on and on, no one seems to know exactly what is good for what, it is complete chaos! One says drink more wine, another says don't drink any wine, another says drink a lot of water, or eat a lot of fibers, or a lot of whole cereals, another one says not at all.... Eat fat, don't eat fat, eat fruit, don't eat fruit... What kills you today seems to save you tomorrow but will kill you again the next day! Funny that our ancestors knew a lot of stuff without researchers and they were sure about what they did!

Hi Francisca, this is all new to me as well--I've been using GSE in my homemade liquid soap for years (which I've used often--head to toe). And I also occasionally take GSE (1 or 2 drops) internally, so hopefully this is just some misleading information on the GSE. Or at least that it's not as bad as some are making it sound. I'd like to hear more opinions on it. I just found this article, which sounds very much against GSE, but the real "juice" is in the comments. A guy who seems to really know what he's talking about, stating that much of the article is inaccurate.

I think it invariably circles back around to a matter of balance and trusting one's own experience and "intuition. " Something from nature that is clearly beneficial in certain amounts and duration of use, but harmful in larger amounts, is trying to teach us about that all-important balance. Look at our world, we do tend to go to extremes. I think it's generally good to try to wean ourselves off of anything we feel compelled to rigidly use every single day. Focus on giving the body the rest, the change/variety and moderation it seems to very much need. But I think the ultimate in obtaining and maintaining health is to learn to trust one's own experience and choices (as well as tending to emotional stuff, inner issues). I do best when I study up on the facts, try to release all the freaky frazzled fear (ha) by getting still and asking myself if something is right for me. If it "feels" right, I try to trust that, and then observe my experience with it, and then apply that balance thing above. Our extreme dependence on the all-mighty docs all these years has stunted our growth in that "trusting ourselves" thing. And I think that's one of the reasons for our long journey to healing--not just to get healthy, but to learn to do that. We "don't need no stinkin'" docs ;)

Francisca. Just don't take Clove or Grapefruit(juice) with pharmaceutical meds, or if you have any history of liver problems. I haven't read of any danger with grapefruitseed, other than some initial die off reactions from infections.

My God, everything is so complicated to the point that one doesn't know anymore what is healthy and what is not! I took Grapefruit seed exctract for a while thinking that it was a great thing..... The thing is that other than the name seems to show grapefruit seed exctract is not only made from the seeds but from the whole pulp. Still.... I have a book about it and it doesn't mention anything about liver enzymes. As far as cloves go I also thought that they were great for example to rid your mouth of bacteria. Lately I got used to much on one or two at a time once in a while and yes, my mouth felt very clean afterwards. I had no idea that there could be side effects..... I also use a few drops of clove oil once in awhile with OP. Again... Never heard of liver enzyme inhibition! Sometimes I despair.... The more I try to learn the more I come to the conclusion that I don't know anything and that more or less everything can be bad for you!

Elly. Wait, hello everyone @ EC. Have been surfing here for some time in the attempt to regain health. Back to Elly's post on the danger of grapefruitseed on liver enzymes. I have long been aware of naringin's (compound present in grapefruit) liver enzyme inhibition, but have never read that naringin is present in the seeds. I tried two caps of seed extract today (for my first time), and didn't notice any liver inhibition (I have depressed detox for yrs so I can always tell if something agonizes or antagonizes). Adding to this, clove is also known for it's liver enzyme inhibition through the compond Eugenol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenol

I've taken Grapefruit extract pills for tooth pain and swelling and it takes care of the pain right away and by the third day all seems well. I take it most of the time at night time for several ailments, however I miss some as well and can notice the difference. Last night I had menstral cramps and normally have to take three advils for severe pain, however I did not have any so I popped two grapefruit ones instead and took care of the pain. I slept through the night! Now the only pain I had left was my hubby; cracking his knuckles! ;] if only the extract could silence him!

GSE can be added to orange juice. Even my kids can't taste it in OJ. No other juice disguises the flavor like it does.

For over a month I had a white coating on tongue diagnosed as thrush. Was given 2 doses of nystatin. Didn't work. Was told to get Grapefruit seed extract as acts as antifungal. Took internally for one week. The next week I emptied the capsules and put it directly on my tongue. After 3 days the white coating was definately better. Been 6 days now & almost completely gone. Will continue for another week to take internally & put on tongue to make sure gone.. Notice I feel better now also. Not as tired & my bowel constipation has cleared up. I think this is a wonderful cure & it works!!!

Diverticulitis

I originally bought GSE for my husband's feet, he has plantar faciitis. We haven't seen much difference in his feet, but I take 7 drops moring and evening in a half glass of water. I have suffered chronic hard stool for several years. I'm going to be frank, I would have one BM a day and my stool was rocky and light in color. Since starting GSE about a week ago I am now having two BMs a day and the color is a normal brown. Now, if it would just do something for my acid reflux.

Sinus Infections

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

Ive had sinus problems for years but mainly on the right side. Ive been trying a lot of different combos to find anything that may help with this problem from ACV to Coconut oil to Grapefruit Seed Extract. I was doing nasal rinses with Sea salt and a pinch of Baking Soda and I tried putting 5 to 7 drops of Grapefruit Seed extract in the bottle. I found this to drain my sinuses a lot but after the drainage stopped my sinuses became very clogged or inflamed. Would this be from the Grapefruit Seed Extract being too harsh or the amount too much.. Thanks for any suggestions...
