On the acv and baking soda page, Katie from Santa Ana was asking about her chronic shoulder pain and what to do. I had a severe rotator cuff injury about 3 years ago. I could not even lift my arm. Initially I took glucosamine and chondroitin, which helped a lot with the healing and the pain. I was taking two pills per day for about 2 years, and then 1 pill a day for the past year. If I stopped taking the glucosamine and condroitin the pain would return. I found this site a few weeks ago and have begun taking molasses with my morning coffee. I read (on a different page) that it helps with inflamation and pain. I have not needed the glucosamine and condroitin ever since!!

This is g8 stuff .I had a big problem with carpal syndrome some nights i could not sleep cause of the pain. Searched on the internet for any ideas came across this site and read reviews. Next day brought some BSM (Black Strap Molasses). Took a tablespoon before i ate every morning and another before i slept. After a few days the pain in my arm was not so severe. Within a month the pain disappeared. Also my husband noticed that i had lost weight. Maybe this was due to taking bsm (black strap molasses) . i continued to take it and in 6 months i have lost 3 stone. I think the bsm stopped my craving for sugar and also i didn't feel hungry. So overall, a wonderful medicine with loads of vitamins and minerals. recommend it to anyone.feel g8, hair is shiny. nails strong and skin glowing. This would be g8 for someone who is pregnant as it has calcium and iron in it.

I've recently become aware of a promising therapy for pain (for me it's an arthritic knee) and would like to know whether any EarthClinic users have any experience with it. It's called Bowen Therapy, named for the Australian healer who developed it and there is lots of info on the web about it.

What is Bowen Therapy?

This method of muscular and soft tissue release originated in Australia in the 1940's by way of Tom Bowen. Although it is world renowned, surprisingly few people know about it.

While laying on a massage table while fully clothed, your practitioner will gently roll your muscles-tendons-ligaments in different directions and orders. He or she will leave the room for two to five minutes to allow your body to process the reflexes that take place.

Many of the moves are made over the meridian points and along the meridian pathways, so the Chi is stimulated and moved. Additionally, the reflex arcs, which are the opposite of a knee jerk reaction, initiate the muscles to release rather than contract.

Since the meridian points contain many chemicals including endorphins, these are released during the treatment. The meridian points are also direct current transformers.

The sum total of the Bowen moves are; muscular relaxation, energy stimulation, nervous system balancing, and postural re- alignment.

It is effective in the relief of a number of medical issues.

Castor Oil & Pain:
Call it what you wish, Voodoo, Witchcraft, "BS", whatever, but it DID work for me. Having recently torn the cartilage in my left knee, simultaneously diagnosed "with a little arthritis" in the same, and swelling behind the knee. My Sport's Ortho said that the swelling was common with the torn cartilage but should go down in time. I began searching on the Web for a magical pain relief remedy (other than my already supplementation of Glucosamine Sulfate, Chondrotin, Taurine, Collagen, HA, Cats Claw, Bromelain, MSM, etc., etc., etc - .all of which I have been taking for years due to 27 yrs of cycling but at almost 68yo, something had to give). One subject that kept surfacing on the Searches was an old time remedy of Castor Oil. I'm not in terrible pain, but it is a 24/7 aggravation, as anyone who has similar discomforts can attest to. I decided to give it a try; purchased a package of ladies' cosmetic, cleansing pads (~3"x4") and a small bottle of Castor Oil (CO), I placed a pad on a saucer, saturated the pad with CO (not dripping) and popped it into the microwave for about 35 secs. I, then placed the (105F) warm pad on my knee; wrapped my knee-pad with plastic wrap (to keep the CO from staining the heating pad) and then applied a heating pad, set to Med. heat. I left it on for about 1 hour and when I removed everything, I did a "test walk" -not only was my knee not stiff, and the swelling was 95% GONE!! I could walk with 100% less discomfort and this was 10x more effective than the Cortisone or three Hydraluronic Acid injections I had received in a two months period. The other nice thing, is that you don't have to throw the saturated pad away; place in a Ziploc bag for the next application and just add a little more CO.

I generally apply this treatment daily, each time the knee feels better - I know it's not going to remedy the situation 100%, but has made my life much better.

I had a calcified bursa on my right shoulder that had become so painful that, after six months of physical therapy, it was no better and I was scheduled for cortisone shots. I did not want them because of the immuno-suppressant tendency of cortisone. One night I had the impression to try a castor oil pack on it, just out of the blue. So I did. I wrapped my shoulder and underarm (after washing it) and left the pack on all night. In the morning the problem was 95% better. I did it four more nights and have not had the problem since. About five years now.

Vision improvment

I have been taking 3 cayenne pepper caps a day and I cannot believe how i can see better. I am typing away without glasses this evening. My vision is +2.5 on the left and +2.00 on the right.

Also I suffer from a bad cocxyx (tail bone pain) since I started the caps my pain has halved. I read somewhere it heals nerves I think its true.

I am telling everyone about it.I take a capsule with everymeal. Its working. I had a brand new wart which became sore so I mixed cayenne pepper with a drop of water to make a little paste and put it on the wart. Put a bandaid on it and now its gone. Try it.

I've had a chronic pain in my teeth for some time now; had a few surgeries and no improvement so I suspected it may be neuro-related. I searched the net and someone mentioned that celery juice helped them to deal with fibromyalgia/chronic pain. I have been on celery juice for a few days now and it has worked really well for me. I usually juice two to three sticks in the morning (I add an apple or carrots as celery on its own is a bit salty) mix the juice with the pulp and drink or rather eat the mixture. I do the same in the evening. Celery contains all of the "B" vitamins, which are said to be essential in treating the nerve system, that's possibly why my pain is a lot less these days.

Chronic Ankle Pain Remedies

Posted by Kerry (Boston, Ma) on 08/14/2013

Dear Earth Clinic, My sister deals with chronic ankle pain. She has had this pain since she was 5 or 6, and has been to specialists numerous times, tried chiropractics, massage and reiki, with no positive effects. She did find short term relief from acupuncture (up to 2 days). She wore a brace for years, which did help but she ended up with significant muscle loss from it. About a year ago, she had a pretty major exploratory surgery with a specialist and they cleaned out debris, but did not find any major defect. The last year has been good, with very limited pain, until recently. The pain seems to be back full-force and it is so extreme she can not sleep. It hurts all the time, but the worst is sleeping and driving.

Up to this point, she has been able to resist pain killers, and I think she is pretty dedicated to living without them, but we are concerned that the pain will be too much as time goes on. She is now only 26.

With all that said, I am looking for some alternative options (more alternative then the avenues mentioned above). We have spoken about doing a cleanse (probably the Master Cleanse/lemonade diet), which we did once before and really liked. I would be interested in dietary suggestions, remedies, alternative doctors and anything else people think may be applicable. Thank you very much!

Kerry, two things that come to mind to try:

1. Epsom salt soaks.
2. Foot alignment as per KatySays.com at the alignedandwell website.

Turmeric and ginger reduce inflammation. BSM contains minerals and the B-Complex vitamins that reduces pain. Please note she will still have to watch what she eats because food is being engineered to last longer and has become difficult to digest. Raw fruits and vegetables are really hard to digest. A lot of that contributes to inflammation so finding the right balance may take some time. GMO's are in everything. Try to stay away from MSG, corn, soy and products that contain them. Sometimes I use aspirin that is not coated. It is the oldest remedy and I believe the safest.

Dear Kerry, So sorry about your sister's pain. I am seeing lots of good ideas from others here for you. I would agree with them. I had also been thinking about turmeric and Blackstrap molasses.

Topically, castor oil may be of help. It is good for pain and seems to draw out offending things at the same time.

Good quality peppermint essential oil topically is also really good for pain and can be healing.

Apple Cider Vinegar is also something we use for pain. Last night two of my children slept with an apple cider vinegar poultice - one to reduce the pain and swelling from a red wasp sting and another had twisted an ankle during a kickball game. Both were much improved today. I soaked a cloth in vinegar, wrapped the pained part, wrapped that in plastic wrap and then covered it with a sock. She could try wrapping her foot this way over night a few nights a week for a month and see how it goes.

Many find the Apple Cider Vinegar (raw, unpasteurized) to help pain when taken internally as well. 1 T. in 8 oz. Of water twice a day. With honey if desired.

Pete Escogue has a book called "Pain Free" which might be of help. Check out the reviews on amazon.

Please let us know how it goes!

I got to thinking that your sister's pain has gone on for so long it must be from something she is eating and/or drinking. Pain is inflammation and inflammation comes from nerve stimulants. Our food supply has been permeated with hidden sources of MSG that are nerve stimulants and can stimulate some nerve cells to death. There are also many things in our food supply that are harder to digest because they have been engineered to last longer (GMO's).

GMO grasses and grains are being fed to the animals we eat. GMO's are also being fed to the critters we get milk and eggs from. It is essential that you do not cook in plastic or buy milk in plastic jugs. There is no such thing as "microwaveable plastic".

Each of us are on our own as far as finding out what foods we can tolerate based on what we have eaten as we have grown up. Foods can be healing but at the same time they can be contributing to multiple ailments. Raw fruits and vegetables are no longer safe for me.

I've had to reduce my three extra large egg consumption to one or two medium. I've had to reduce my meat to only two or three ounces at a meal. I've had to reduce my grass-fed dairy cow whole milk in glass bottles to the two percent milk, in glass bottles. I sometimes dilute that, especially in the winter because the cows are being fed more corn to produce more milk. Cheese is made from this milk and sharp cheese has been reported to contibute to arthritis. I have to get butter without salt because the flowing/anti-caking agent contributes to pain. I use sea salt.

This is only a synopsis but I hope this gives you some help for your sister.

Lately I have been experiencing nasty pain down each side of my legs, coupled with chronic lower back pain I was hobbling around in misery. Came to Earth Clinic and read one of the posts about Coconut Oil being used for pain relief, I was sceptical but desperate so I used about a teaspoonful and rubbed into my lower back and the residue down my hips thighs and calves. I lay down after this thinking how can oil fix pain ?.. Within 5 minutes I was pain free!! It did'nt last past a couple of hours so I renewed the application. Same result. So far I have been rubbing in the coconut oil for three days and the effects are lasting longer each time. I am totally convinced. When I told a friend of mine who comes from the Maldives, she said it was used extensively there for massage. If you are hurting try it!! Be well and thank you Earth Clinic

I said I used a teaspoonful of coconut oil, but that is a heaped spoon of hard oil. (it's always hard in this climate except for a couple months in summer) Measurement was probably closer to a tablespoon of liquid oil. I am still using it, just night and morning gently rubbed into any hurting bits. Great stuff!!

My husband and I use coconut oil as a rub for aches and pains. Hubby had his right shoulder replaced 10 years ago and coconut oil keeps him pain free. I need back surgery but am too old so I use coconut oil to relieve pain. We also use it to rub arthritic knees, hips, elbows and hands. We were in Majuro for 18 months five years ago and were introduced to coconut oil by the natives when I stepped onto a red ant pile and was severely bitten all over my legs. Instant relief from coconut oil. We don't measure, we just scoop out a little and rub it on. It has to be 100% pure coconut oil to work.

Coconut Oil and Celtic Sea Salt

Editor's Choice

I found this pain reliever on YouTube. I was very skeptic, but tried it as I had both ingredients, yes two ingredients, in my cabinet.

Get one 14 oz jar of extra virgin coconut oil and Celtic Sea Salt. It has to be Celtic, no other sea salt works. You can find Celtic Sea Salt at a health food store or you can order it online.

Mix the two ingredients together then let it sit for 72 hours. It needs to marry/blend together. Then put it on an ache or pain.

This has worked for all but one person I have recommended this to. I have recommended to many and they have passed it on to their friends and family. It's AMAZING. If you try this I pray it works.

It's cheap compared to other remedies. My friend told me I had saved her $80 a month on CBD oil and the coconut oil worked better.

Healing PORES on bottom of feet....Y E S, Amen!

I got the large bandaids( that have the tape part all around the edges of the cloth part) and put coconut oil on the cotton part and sprinkled activated charcoal powder on top of the oil and put on bottoms of my feet and went to bed. I also ate a capsule of activated charcoal at bedtime for a couple weeks.

78 and do not have or know a doctor. Healthy and pain free, now. Its no secret. Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C). but that is another story. In my 40's I was playing a lot of tough basketball and had many aches and pains. I had been taking stress B and other multi-vitamins and minerals for years. I added cod liver oil. Surprise. Most of my pains were less. I told a neighbor and he told me of a book he had just read by a doctor who worked with arthritic Patients for over thirty years. He found that most ate a lot sugar, white bread and pastry, which he refer to as poisons in his book. His therapy was Diet, exercise, vitamins and minerals. No white sugar or white flour. What he found to help the most was cod liver oil. This is his regimen I followed. Three Tblsp a day for six days, one day without, then another six days at the same amount. Then one tblsp a day six days a week until pain and arthritic was controlled. It worked for me. I do not take the liquid, the taste was to much. Capsules I can handle. Natural medicine doctors now believe in treating the whole body, not the disease. I have done this for over 60 years. listen to your body.

I discovered vitamin C thorough the internet surfing for my health. I am never satisfied. I found some papers By Dr F R Klenner. Died 1984 His story of discovery is incredible. I shed many tears reading his discoveries and what he did with them. samples: Cured completely, 60 of 60 polio cases he saw. Brought to term 300 perfect babies with no or minimal problems for the mothers, some with health problems, and had been warned not to. Cured every virus he came across, some I never heard of. I am ten years younger than I was last November and going to stay that way. Read Dr Klenners papers at: doctoryourself.com

Cold Showers

I am very delighted to read all the good positive stories about cold water shower healing. Allow me to share my story.

I am a Moslem (from Indonesia), and the month of Ramadhan (fasting) was just over. For those not familiar with this, Moslems fast for 30 days during the Ramadhan month, every day, wake up at dawn (around 3 AM), have meal, fast during the day (no drinking no eating no sex), and break the fast at around 6 PM.

I have this problem with my right leg knee, it gives me pain when I bend during a prayer. For one month of Ramadhan, I "practiced" the cold water shower each time I wake up, at around 2:30 AM. After that, I pray (the so called "night prayer"), and have meal. To the best of my knowledge there is no reference in Al Quran about taking shower at "night", although there is the so called "night prayer" which is not obligatory, but very strongly advised for Moslems, and it takes time somewhere between 2:30 and 3:30 AM. We call it the "last one-third of the night".

I just felt I had to heal myself this way, because I heard many times especially from elders and those "natives" coming from rural villages, of cold water shower "healing", which normaly takes time between 2 and 4 AM. Many people here say, it's not healthy to take shower at night, before 12 AM, but it's healthy if taken after say, 1 AM. Some martial arts practitioners here do take shower after evening/night training, at around 1-2 AM or later. I had a friend who literally couldn't walk, not paralyzed but pain in both his legs (thigh), was eventually healed, Praise Allah, could walk (and run) normally again after spending about a month or so taking cold water shower from a well (using bucket / dousing) every night (at around 3 AM).

Back to myself, Praise Allah, after 30 days of night cold water shower, I do feel better now. I can bend my knee again, with less pain.

Perhaps someone have an explanation about the "state" of water during the night, especially between 2 and 4 AM ?
