I stumbled onto this site to find a cure for my gout. I had a bad attack recently that lasted about 4 weeks. When I felt the gout returning I decided I needed a cure that I could take straight away and not have to go to a doctor. My last doctor could only tell me I had a sore foot and charged me 60euro for the privilege.
All the people on this site were raving about ACV so I said I'd give it a try. About an hour after taking it there was a marked improvement and I had stopped limping before the end of the day. I couldn't believe the results myself so I didn't take it the next day and the gout started to return. The following day I recommenced the "treatment" and it went away again. I'm taking it at regular intervals till the stiff feeling in my toe is completely gone. I have also phoned my father to tell him as he suffered with gout for years too.

I have gout very bad, I'm a amputee and I depend on good leg all the time. I ended up with gout because of this. I do drink a lot of apple cider vinegar for last 20 years. I use it for other things too, but it has help a lot. Make sure it is vinegar from health food store.

I've been taking organic ACV with mother for 2 days now, with no relief at all. I think it might have even gotten worse. The first day I tried 2 tbs of the ACV in 8 oz of tart cherry juice, once in the morning and then before bed. Today I up it to 4 tbs and no relief whatsoever. I even tried 1 tbs of baking soda in 8 oz of water, no relief. I don't know what else I can do?

Hi Donna, As a New Zealander I am a big meat eater. Meat does not cause gout with me but citrus juice, especially orange juice and vitamin C in any form will cripple me in a matter of hours. I have found that ACV will neutralise the uric acid very quickly.
Good luck, gout is not pleasant.

I've been using ACV as a daily regimen for a few years now. Recently I ran out of ACV and even though it's relitively inexpensive I could not afford to replace it. Within two days gout appear in my big toe and my blood pressure soared. It took me 4 days to realize why. Landing on this page made me realize.... It's the ACV! Now I've scraped up every dime to go out and buy a bottle of ACV. This stuff definitely works to keep gout away. It has other good properties for your health as well. Thank you Earth Clinic!

I have had gout for the last 8 years. First half of 2010 the attacks grew more intense
with several attacks pr months. The pain circled position toe-leg-hand-left and right side. After reading these reports I started to take ACV daily from mid June 2010. The pain slowly ceased and after three weeks it totally stopped.
Now 7 months after I have experienced no attack at all. THIS IS FANTASTIC. Every day two times I take two spoonful of ACV dissolved in a glass of water. I feel it important to take the right type of ACV, I take the organic type. As outlined, it works perfect with me, and I recommend strongly the treatment. I will continue to take the "medicine" the rest of my life.

I've been reading your post on Gout attack rescues. Read with interest about the use of ACV. I've been a gout sufferer for the last 3 years and it now attacks frequently in the feet.. I'm usually a very active 51 year old who attends the gym on a regular basis but because of the gout attacks I'm unable to attend.. Tonight I'm trying the ACV remedy for the 1st time.. I've eat some blueberries and strawberrys as well.. Also 3 tablespoons of ACV with water.. I'll keep you posted. I 'm currently on Aurinpol and took the pain killer prednisone tonight because of the pain.

Add me as another success story. After thanksgiving dinner, I woke up on Friday with a lot of pain on my right toe. I know I have a somewhat high level of uric acid but my doctor told me I only needed to reduce my red meat intake (which I've been doing for the last year). What the doctor didn't tell me is turkey meat is also associated with uric acid. I've been consuming a lot of turkey meat to make up for the lack of beef.
After reading this thread I decided to visit the grocery store and get the ACV. I drank about three glasses of a mix 10% ACV, 90% water and went to sleep. Next morning, no more limping. It's Monday and I can move my fingers no problem. I can even jump. I'll keep drinking ACV with water, orange juice, etc The taste is not too bad. I'm also adding it to my salads. I'll be ordering ACV capsules soon. Of course, I'll reduce my meat intake. It seems only fish is safe to eat.
Give it a shot even if you haven't had a gout attack.

just over a month ago I went to the ER with chest pains (I have an irregular hear heat) and what I thought was a painful blood clot in my right foot. Turns out I had a real high level of uric acid. I was told by my family doctor who I saw for a follow up to lay off all red meat, chicken, turkey. I only eat red meat once a week now and take ACV twice a day with 10 oz of cherry juice. I went back to the doctors office a month later and was retested for the uric acid level and was found to be in normal range. I use the (_____s) brand. This has been wondeful. Arrhythmia
I also noticed that my acid reflux has almost gone away completely! I used to take pepsid ac two to three times a day. now I am lucky if I take it once to twice a week.
Since starting this diet my arrhythmia has almost gone away. I feel so much better then I have felt over the past year. I just need to lose some weight now.

As you can see from my email below, the ACV helped me 90% but not completely. However, while ACV was helping, it's interesting to note that INITIALLY, my big toe swelled more for about 3 hours with throbbing and some pain before it finally subsided and got it 90% cured quite quickly.
I suspect that the increased throbbing (with some pain) was the ACV sorta "dissolving" the "hardened" uric acid crystals in my toe and later eliminating it from my system. Maybe in your husband's case (15 years) there was just so much uric acid deposits that the dissolving/throbbing/pain process was more intense and takes longer than the 2-3 hours it took for me.
Just a guess; I'm no doctor.. but then again, doesn't seem like conventional doctors know about the true physical effects "earth medicines" either! lol

At first my results were the same as yours, but when I added more it worked great, my father in-law had gout all over his body and i swore he was about to meet his maker the other day, but i took cloth and soaked it in a pan with 8oz of water and 6 tablespoon of ACV, now he worships me as the puffy fat body i seen earlier has gone away and to be cautious i gave him two glasses of it as well and again he is so relieved and the tears of pain are now tears of joy, don't give up on it yet, try it again. goodluck

What can I say. This stuff is the bomb. I have suffered from gout for what seems like ever, and prior to taking ACV had what I thought was a gouty knee ( sure enough it was ) which had been sore and swollen for almost two months. At my wits end ( the wife's nagging finally made me go to the quack ) I went and had my knee x-rayed and blood tests taken etc, only to have the Dr tell me that my blood pressure was 192 / something......HOLY CRAP!! Having too many drinks during the week was not contributing to my health, plus not having been hiking for some time was driving me nuts as well. Either way it was a wake up call. So, one night while I sat with my knee up, I surfed the net and found something about ACV. So I had a crack at it. What could I lose? Two days later, my knee was no longer hot to the touch, was feeling better ( but I was still looking at it dubiously ) and I wondered if there was something to this vinegar cure. Well, bugger me. It works. My wife was amazed as she watched my knee slowly lose the swelling ( as was I ) and my tenancy to retain water in my ankles while sitting at work stopped. Just like that. Stopped. My joints in general feel so much better. My skin feels better too. I seem to have more energy and I noticed that when one drinks ACV, well my wife and I anyways, I start to feel hot. If I exercise I start to sweat 10x quicker than I use to. This to me shows that my metabolic rate has increased. Yesterday, we bought a Blood pressure monitor at Costco, and when I got home I gave my wife and myself a hell of a shock. 3 weeks ago, I was 192/ ? ( forgot ) and had the wife almost comatose with worry at how high my pressure was. Last night - 137 / 80 ( taken average of 3 tests ) and considering I had gout that was on the start as well ( left toe ) which had developed just prior to taking ACV - plus a stressful day at work, I was STOKED! So was the wife. I decided I should check this morning though, as its an ideal time to check your true pressure as one is still relaxed etc. Hows this....
127/78- Bloody hell. Its awesome.
My toe with its gout, is on the mend as well and my knee is basically at the 98% mark. All this after only three weeks. I drink a shot glass ( 2 ounce that once hosted my Tequila ) in a glass of Lemonade ( Paul Newmans or any other half decent brand ) with a little diet sprite flung in there as well. Makes a nice tangy spritzer type drink. That's it. We are both sold. It has now become our daily regimen. To the ancients out there that cottoned onto this cure......THANKS!

Apple Cider Vinegar didn't work for me. I tried it and the gout just kept getting worse. I am not doubting the experiences of others or saying the ACV was a contributor to the situation, just offering the caution that it doesn't work for everyone. It has taken an initial Prednisone treatment and sustained Amlodipine to get me back on my feet (literally).
I wish the ACV had worked! I like apple cider so I didn't find the taste of ACV in water objectionable.

I found your site today while researching possible cures for Gout. My first bout with gout was 6 years ago and the doctors put me on Allopurinol. Let me tell you worst medication I ever had to take, side effects were misrible. Then I remembered what my Mother said, "ACV may not cure the common cold but sure takes care of most body aches" so I started taking ACV in water. The taste got to me so I decided to try ACV tea and low and behold it still worked, FYI 1) 16oz water bottle (take a couple of drinks out to make room for ACV) mix well and pour into a tea pot/coffee maker 2) pick your favorite tea (mine is Bengal Spice by Celestial Seasonings). Once the tea is made I place it back in a water bottle and go back to doing whatever, sipping the tea throughout the day. If I run out I make myself another bottle, but only do two bottles a day.
It controls my gout and I quit taking the med 4 months after I had started it.

Finally a Magic Budget.Thank You Apple Cider Vinegar I have been dealing with gout for around 5 years now. I have had small episodes, along with some massive ones. 10 days ago I started feeling a gout attack in my right foot. I ignored the small pains until they were no longer small. I had a full blown attack. My right foot swelled up like a football and was red with fever. The allpurinall is so hard on my stomach that I usually try to wait out an attack, rather than try to fix it with man-made drugs. This attack seemed to be the Gout from Hell. I was miserable, my wife was ready to ship me off to some foreign country (just to have me out of the house).
To make a long story short, I started googleing gout and found this forum. What a blessing I started reading all the testimonials about ACV and hobbled right down to the supermarket and bought me a bottle of ACV with mother. I tried the ACV with honey, I tried it straight, I even mixed it with orange juice. I just wanted to get as much of it into my system as quick as possible. The results were amazing. I didn't see anything the first evening (I started taking ACV at 7:00 pm) however when I woke up the next morning the swelling had gone down at least 50% along with the redness. 24 hours later I put the crutches away (O' yeah I was on crutches for 4 days) and each day after the swelling and redness subsided. I have now been taking ACV for 5 days. I am a believer and will continue to take my 3-4 tbs of ACV every morning in my Orange juice. Thanks again for the helpful information. And good luck to all you fellow Gouters.

Can gout flareups be caused by an over abundance of iron in your blood, and then if you compound that iron with something with more iron in it like Molasses Honey, or maybe ACV, could that trigger an attack. Or is it strictly a uric acid buildup. I have had gout for number of years but not as severe as now, it always seemed to go away by itself. Recently I tried an old remedy of blackstrap molasses and warm water, but the gout got worse after the second day, then I happened upon the ACV, Honey and water regimen tried it for 2 days now; but gout is still here and getting worse, is there an issue with iron and this remedy as well, In defense of both cures I inadvertently have had more purine rich veggie foods and even haddock lately, mybad I just wasn't paying attention I guess, I'm just asking to see if anyone else experienced any thing like this. If iron is the culprit does anyone know how to diminish iron overload in the body. Thanks to all for any advise

Has anyone tried this soak for Gout? Please advise as soon as possible, my gout is killing me, does anyone have a remedy that could draw out the gout crystals?
Boil 3 cups of water and pour it into the container. Let the water cool just enough so that you can safely touch it with your foot. Pour 1 cup of apple cider vinegar into the hot water and stir to combine thoroughly. Lower your foot into the bath and let it soak for as long as you want. You can add more water and vinegar in the same proportions of three parts water to one part vinegar.

Apple cider vinegar, my friend. I am a firm believer in the stuff. I have been suffering from gout for 5 years. The ACV (with Mother)will help reduce the Uric acid in your blood. Everyone suggests to take 3-4 table spoons with honey, with 6 oz of water. I like to mix 4 table spoons of ACV with 6 oz. of orange juice. I think it is all the same, you just need to get it into your system. It has worked miracles with my Gout, I wish you the same success.

Answer to Greg from Prairie Du Chien, about gout
The best thing I found for my gout was when I learned about pH balance. Gout is caused by accumulated uric acid crystals. A big portion of uric acid is eliminated by the kidneys. However, uric acid will be eliminated mostly if the urine is near pH 7 (neutral). You can verify this fact by yourself by measuring the urine pH with pH paper designed for this purpose. Look for EC alkalizing formulas, or some of my posts for some suggestions. Changes in diet will also help. Eat the least processed food as possible. Recent research have also shown that fructose will cause uric acid. Check those process food with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). This stuff is almost in every processed food. A quick test to increase the pH (less acidic) of the urine is to take ACV with baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). If you have water retention, half of the baking soda should be replaced with potassium bicarbonate or potassium citrate.
See: www.earthclinic.com/remedies/alkalizing_formulas.html where you will find these 2 formulas.
Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda Formula
1-Two tablespoon of ACV plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Take this two to three times a day on an empty stomach. It is supposed to give you more energy. The pH of this formula is about 7. 2-For People with Sodium Issues and Want to Alkalize
1/8 teaspoon of baking soda 1/16 teaspoon of potassium bicarbonate 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid. Add water to 1/2 glass of water. Take this twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening on an empty stomach. This is done to avoid diarrhea problems, if taken along with food. You may also consider adding a pinch of EPSOM salt to you drinking water, meals or the formulas above as magnesium will also help to alkalize see this post "
Lithiasis - Uric Acid Diathesis. Magnesium Treatment"

I have a simple question.. Gout is created by excess uric acid , so how come that drinking ACV which is acetic, can cure it??
Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines) on 02/25/2011
Hi Guy... In order to understand how ACV is handled in the body requires that you understand a little about human digestion. Digestion begins in the mouth where the saliva juices and enzymes (alkaline) begin to digest only carbohydrates. The food then reaches the stomach which is an acid environment and then moves into the small intestines or duodenum where bicarbonates are secreted from the liver as bile and from the pancreas as enzymes in bicarbonates to neutralize the acid chyme. The digestion environment in the duodenum must be alkaline to neutral otherwise the digest the food and enzymes cannot do there job. Also, the necessity to neutralize the ACV wastes body bicarbonates which are critical for both proper body/blood alkalization a well as for respiration and human energy itself.
So if you ingest ACV as the acid form -- it will pass into the duodenum and must first be alkalized to citrate and malate salts(more alkaline) which is how it is best absorbed into the body. This neutralization process wastes your alkalizing body bicarbnates unnecessarily.
This is why Ted always insists that you should always neutraize the ascetic and malic acids with Sodium Bicarbonate(Baking Soda) from ACV FIRST, before you ingest them -- in this way you will not waste your essential alkalizing body bicarbonates on just neutralizing these acids.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines) on 02/25/2011
Hi Guy... I forgot to add that when the ACV's malic and ascetic acids are converted to their citrate and malate salts and are absorbed into the blood -- these salts are somewhat alkalizing which again helps to dissolve out the excess uric acid crystals causing the gout
Since gout is all about blood acidity, an equally useful remedy for gout is simply to take 1/2 tspn of Baking Soda(sodium bicarbonate) in a 1/2 glass of water 2 or 3 times a day. This remedy directly alkalizes the blood, which will help to easily dissolve out the uric acid crystals causing the problem.
Yet another remedy for gout which I have used very successfully is to take about 1000 mgs Chanca piedra(capsules) twice a day at mealtimes. Chanca piedra is alkalizing and is also a diuretic which acts as a wonderful liver and kidney protective and balancer.

Thanks for educating me on the digestion system, Bill. I was just doing the ACV because I heard so many bad things about baking soda. Just doing ACV my pH went from 6.5 to 6.2. That really confused me. Is it because I only consumed the ACV?
I also ordered the Chanca Piedra. If I take 1000mg a day of this, will I still have to consume the ACV and baking soda? It really upsets my stomach, I find it more and more difficult to consume.

Our body needs to be at a 7.0 ph level to be healthy Your ph shows that your body is acidic and you need to raise your ph.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 11/29/2011
High Buttercup37... Over 80% of your main blood serum macro-electrolytes (Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium) is Sodium. Your body needs sodium to balance the serum electrolytes. That's why sodium bicarbonate will not hurt you. It is usually refined salt that is the problem -- and its not the sodium but the chloride part of salt that causes all problems which nobody ever mentions.
That's why it's better to first neutralize the ACV with a 1/4-1/2 tspn of Baking Soda as Ted recommends. It also tastes much nicer and isn't acid.
When raw ACV is ingested and gets to the duodenum -- it uses the bicarbonates from the pancreas anyway to neutralize the acids in ACV before it is absorbed into the body. So why not neutralize the ACV before you ingest it. All you're doing here is just creating the post-digested form of ACV, so what's the difference ?
I'm also not sure why you are using ACV. ACV can be used in its raw form to help GERD problems where stomach acid is lacking -- because this increases stomach acidity. But if you are using ACV to alkalize and you are having problems with taking it -- then you should really be using the ACV and Baking Soda with half a glass of water as Ted recommends.

First I want to thank all of those who have contributed such useful information for all of the rest of us. Reading it all and using it have been very valuable. I received my first gout attack about 16 years ago. I thought I had torn ligaments in my left ankle, but had no idea how. I was prescribed the usual allopurinol and indocine. After about 3 or 4 months, I quit the "allo" and just used the indocine for pain if I felt an attack coming on. It worked for years. Over the course of the past 16 years, I have only had 2 or 3 attacks that I would consider to be "not caught in time", and none of them prevented me from going to work. I have been fortunate. All of the attacks were either in my left big toe or left ankle. Then, two weeks ago, I woke from a great night's sleep to find my left arm swollen from the elbow to the middle of the forearm. I thought that I had contracted some kind of infection or had been bitten or stung during the night by some insect. It was neither. By Day 2, I had been online and realized that it was gout. I never knew it could/would attack the elbow. Again, this wasn't a severe attack. It did not keep me from doing what I had to do that day, but my left arm looked like Popeye's left arm. It was uncomfortable and so hot I could have fried an egg on it. Not pretty. I'm not inclined to return to the "allo", so I started looking online and found this site. I started the ACV quickly. Once in the morning and once in the evening after dinner and before sleep. I take two tablespoons of ACV with a tablespoon of honey in a glass of water. It is working wonderfully well. I'm assuming that everyone just uses a dosage that works for them? I haven't seen any hard and fast rules regarding that. Also, for how long do you take it? Every day forever? I've seen one site that recommended a month on and month off. I have no qualms about taking it every day. It has even cut my appetite. Thanks again for a great site!

ACV/"the Mother", Raw Organic Honey (ROH) and Alfalfa juice tablets relieved my 1st gout attack..Thank you!! I'm 54 yrs old. I had my 1st and (pretty sure) my last gout attack all within the past 4 days. I didn't realize the repercussions of leaving some form of gout untreated for years. My big left toe has ached on and off over the past 10 years, and wow this attack almost crippled me. I was in pain and hobbling. It took me a couple of hours to realize what was happening and I googled the internet for home remedies for gout...and I am extremely grateful I picked this website which posted exactly what I needed. Luckily, I had the ACV with "The Mother" and ROH, but didn't use your recipe until 2nd day: 1 tblspn of ACV & 1 tblspn of ROH in 4 ozs of hot water, stirred; I then added 4 oz of tepid water - it makes a great tea. I saw even greater relief using the recipe, while taking ibuprofen during the day and at night elevating my left foot with ice packs. The third day was when I started alfalfa juice tablets, stopped the ibuprofen. I was in the gym again within 36 hours on 3 different low impact machines for about 2 hours.

I have suffered from gout for about 9 years, it started in my toes, but about 4 years ago it moved to all my larger joints, ankles, knees, wrists, hands, elbows & shoulders. I was having attacks about every 6-8 weeks. Then I read about ACV & started trying that in hopes that something would work. I started the ACV on 11/29/09 & stopped it on 12/17/09 because I was having one attack after the other. The VA has me on Prednizone & allopurinol for maintenance & are starting me on Indomethacin for when I feel an attack coming on. I read about ACV with Mother & tried that for about 20 days, taking one tsp. with baking soda in 8oz. water twice per day. The gout attacks became more frequent ( 10 attacks in 90 days)they would last from 3 days to 14 days with the latest attack lasting a full 30 days. I would really like to be able to use the Organic ACV with Mother but I am now afraid to try it again. Any suggestions??

Answer to John from Sulphur Springs about ACV and Gout.
I read that 60%-70% of uric acid is eliminated by the kidneys. It would indicate that gout might be an indication of reduced kidney functionality.
Also, being an acid, uric acid may dissolve better if the urine pH is less acidic. It is said that uric acid dissolves 1,000 more times with urine pH of 7 (neutral) than compared to a urine pH of 5 (acidic).
Here are a few recommendations:
Read the following pages, they are related with alkalizing formulas -
https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/gout_questions.html#Question_1246

As a quick fix I would try the baking soda or BS ACV formulas to see if it helps. Careful with BS if you have water retention. But a better formula would be the [ACV or Lemon Juice or Citric Acid] [Baking Soda] [Potassium Bicarbonate or Potassium Citrate] [with a pinch of Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulphate)]. For the correct amounts see Ted's formula.
Drink a lot of good water to cleanse the system and help dissolve uric acid crystals.
You can also try these and alternate to see what may work. Soak a paper towel with ACV or Epsom Salt concentrated sollution or Milk of Magnesia, and wrap the painful area (then wrap with saran wrap plastic).
Buy yourself some pH paper and measure the pH of your urine. You should see that the pain will decrease as the pH of your urine will increase (I assume that your urine pH will show it is acidic). I recall that after using alkalizing formulas and drinking a lot of water of lot of pain disappeared after 10 hours. During that time, the pH of my urine went from below 5 to above 7.
BS formulas are quick fixes, some say they should not be done foe an extended amount of time. There are formulas that are more complete mineral wise.
I suggest you search the web for alkalizing diet. Seek food that are not detrimental to the liver and kidneys. Avoid alcohol (very acidic), processed food, sugar, synthetic sugar. Reduce red meat and shellfish ... Unfortunately it will probably mean a change in lifestyle, eating more natural. No soda pops, no coffee. When you will find alkalizing food charts you will know what is good and what is wrong.
Search my posts at earthclinic and see other web pages addresses I suggest for pH balance.
Finally good luck

Thanks for your quick responce, I look forward to trying your recommendations & I will keep you informed with my progress. I love the website, it's really nice to have a place that offers natural/alternative options for our health problems. All medications have such terrible side effects, I know the Good Lord gave us the herbs to heal ourselves with if we only would, but it all goes back to greed & money. Shame on the AMA & FDA!
