Fasting for Gout

I had my first gout attack 2 years ago on my birthday. After which I was fine for the longest time. Then, almost exactly 1 year later, the night before a weekend trip to Vancouver, I could feel the gout coming back. (Anybody who's ever had gout knows when it is about to come back. ) I woke up at 3am that night because my big right toe was getting worse. I knew by the next day I would not be able to walk just like the last time. However, since I was going on a weekend trip which cost a lot of money for the flight, I really did not want to spend it lying in bed! Out of desparation, I woke up the next morning and drank a ton of water before going to the airport. Then I did not eat a thing for the next 10 hours because I figured something in my diet must be the cause. Thankfully, the gout feelings subsided and I never experienced a gout attack that weekend.

Hi Theo - Orange Juice or any acidic juice will set off Gout big time - best neutraliser for gout? 2 teaspoons of Bicarbonate of Soda in a glass of water, nukes in no time. My husband and 2 of our geriatric flatmates all had gout, sharing their gout pills with each other in the spirit of brotherhood LOL! Pretty hilarious watching 3 middle aged men hobbling out the door on their way to work all with gout in the same foot - so I nuked the 3 of them with Bicarb and Voila - didn't make them look any sexier but it sure as hell stopped their collective moaning while watching TV! I was beginning to think I lived in a Retirement Village!! Cheers Marlane
