Honey is not sugar, nor does it cause bodily reactions like sugar. In fact, honey is actually an antimicrobial agent. Honey will not affect your body adversely like sugar does when trying to cure an ailment. If anything, honey would do you more good than harm.

Apple Cider Vinegar - as far adding the honey in the mix... yes, it's ok as long as the honey is not processed in any way. get the local thick stuff from a health food store or farmer's market.

I used ACV to manage the pain from my urinary tract infection (not cure the actual infection).
I had a urinary tract infection (UTI) for about three days. On the third day I was in excruciating pain. I went to the doctor and was given a course of antibiotics and started taking them right away. Unfortunately the antibiotics, although killing off the bacteria, do not help to manage the pain and discomfort in the meantime. Plus, using over the counter remedies to manage the symptoms, such as the Ural sachets, is not an option as they prevent the antibiotics from working.
I had heard ACV helped many women suffering from thrush infections feel better, but was sceptical. Still, in total desperation and unbearable pain, I added two cups of white vinegar (as this was all I had on hand) to a warm, ankle-deep bath. The white vinegar helped a tiny bit. It was enough to help me hobble down the road to pick up some ACV. Again, I added two cups to a warm, ankle-deep bath and sat in it for about half an hour.
The relief! I have no more soreness or burning! I still feel like I desperately need to pee (which is a symptom of the UTI), but I suppose the antibiotics will help that. ACV worked so well in managing my UTI symptoms - I have no idea what I would have done without it. I am so pleased now that the pain has gone and I can concentrate on other things again. I will definitely tell my friends about this one. I also plan to keep a bottle of ACV in the first aid kit for times when I may need it.

For a few years, I was getting terribly painful urinary infections. I would need medication and I would be off work for at least 3 days and in pain for at least a week. I am talking screaming pain here. It was horrible.
I woke up in the middle of the night with another infection and knew that I would need to go to Emergency. I did not want to wake my husband up for another hour or two so he could take me to Emergency and go straight to work. So in desperation, I went to my books to see if there was anything I could do to relieve the pain temporarily. In a book on Water Therapy, I found instructions for an ACV/water douche. Fortunately, I had a set as part of a hot water bottle kit.
I tried it; the burning pain left almost instantly and I fell asleep. In the morning, the infection was completely gone. I didn't even have discomfort. I have not had a urinary infection since then (more than 30 years). At the first sign, I use ACV solution. I take it in my first aid kit when I travel or go backpacking in the bush. It is remarkable. Under those circumstances, when I travel light, I just use a facecloth soaked in the warm solution.
You are right; ACV is probably the most amazing of all remedies.
My father began taking it with honey in his 50's and never had another cold despite the cold MidWest winters.

I went to the local health food store and I bought [...] apple cidar vinigar [...]. I have just drank two teaspoons in 10 ounces of water and I have tested my urin PH level and it went from 5.8 to 6.8 and I have no more uerthera burning.....I will see if this makes thing better I will keep at it tomorrow as well, I had posted earlier about the old wives tales, having much TRUTH I believe. I hope this continues to work, like I said I will continue with it tomorrow too, and I have also started eating raw carrots and celery and apples, which are all great too, to help this problem.......and some pure cranberry and dandelion and juniper mixed together for a natural light diuretic effect to help flush the out everything. ACV, also is a natural buffer which helps relieve the body of toxins to my understanding and has GREAT anitbacterial effect in it and strong sertilzation effect too, so in other words makes for a wonderful bacterial killer, GOOD thing....I hope keeps working!

But one thing I saw was to eat lots of celery and cucumbers for the bladder infection. So this morning I drank a huge glass of water with ACV - Another plain glass of water, ate celery and cucs and drank lemon water AND I took marshmallow root which is suppose to be good for a bladder infection too. Then the rest of the day I drank lemon water and I am fine as I sit here and type this out! YAY!
As always - thank you Earth CLinic readers with your advice!

I have large scale retention problems causing bladder infections. ACV worked very well. But to fix the underlaying cause which is retention, I am heading for surgery next month. I was informed that with a high level of retention I'm facing deterioration of bladder and it's function and that extended backpressure due to inadequate urine flow or blockage may eventually lead to kidney problems. I decided not to let that develop. Hope my experience gives you some useful info.

A lot of Water as well as cranberry juice (no sugars) mixed with Apple cider vinegar works very well, but you have to drink a lot of all of them. It was gone within 3-5 days. (If you are bleeding do this still, I've bled with the infection and this really helped me. Be persistent with it.)

I agree. This site recommends apple cider vinegar as a cure for just about everything and it gives me very painful bladder symptoms. I thought I had a bladder infection after taking it. Doctors did a full scope and tested for any sign of infection and found nothing, but I was in severe pain. Thankfully I found a product (containing D-Mannose, Uva-Ursi leaf extract, Blueberry, Cranberry, Dandelion Root, Taraxacum o cinale, Goldenrod, Goldenseal, Hydrastis canadensis, Parsley juice) which cleared it up. I didn't connect it to the ACV, though until I tried it again about a month later in warm water with honey. Bam! Pain was back again, so I made the connection. This is the first time where I have seen anyone else reacting poorly to ACV. My nerve pain is from a slip and fall in 2009 and I think I have an entrapped pudendal nerve. Can't sit very long without nerve pain. Have had nerve blocks, PT, chronic pain classes and am on Topomax and hydrocodone. Could really use some relief. I'm afraid of any surgery as any error could make it worse. Boo hoo. Everybody's got something, right? God Bless!

The only question left is that when using catheders, the urethra does not "get flushed out" since in this case urin flows through a plastic tube instead - so could in this case an infection remain in the urethra.
So far no such indication.
In any case, I now continue with a mainteneance dose of ACV for the period of intermittant catheder use.

Just thought you should know that the antibiotic called Cipro causes seizures. My sister took it for a UTI & 3 or 4 months{yes, months!} later she had a seizure from it & spent a week in the hospital! If you look up Cipro online, you'll see all the side effects. They are trying to take it off the market and there are law suits pending. My sister has to take meds. for 6 months to prevent more seizures. I hope this helps...

UPDATE: In my case, ACV worked very well both to kill a 4th recurring infection and then, on maintenence dose, to keep recurrance away (in spite of higher risks due to self catherderizing). As a matter of caution, I checked the kidney area daily while curing, by bouncing the wrists into the back side where the kidneys reside, assuring no pain developed and and also checked temperature; the warning is clear: Bladder infections, if treated ineffectively, can lead to kidney infections (requiring immediate professional emergency actions) and may lead to kidney failure and even shut-down!
I'm glad I found this site and thrilled that for me ACV works so well, considering a reply from Christina regarding Cipro.

UPDATE on maintenence: Just before week-end I got sloppy with my maintenence dose intake and also got exerted physically. By early week I had the next bladder infection going as confirmed by chem strip test. This time it took more time and higher amounts of ACV than ever before to get the infection in check; it's still not totally cleared although most symptoms have subsided. So I am wondering if, by using longer term AVC maintenance doses, one runs a risk of developing an ACV-resistant bacteria culture! I now think more needs to be learned about maintenance usage.

Doesn't CIPRO cause fluoride poisoning?
EC: According to Jason Uttley, Cipro does indeed cause fluoride poisoning. Read his fantastic article on our fibromyalgia page.

One morning, I was in such pain, I could barely walk, and MY KIDNEYS HURT!(Lower back pain), and I had chills and felt like I was going to throw up. My Mom kept on pressuring me to go to the emergency room. I don't have insurance. Anyways, I consulted this blessed site, and decided to give apple cider vinegar a try. I took a lot, all day, I drank about 3 tbsp in a tall glass of water, several times a day. By the first few hours, the pain subsided, I could not believe it, it really helped me. I'm not exactly good about drinking a lot of fluids during a bladder infection, but since this was helping the (most uncomfortable feeling in the world), I was all about it. I honestly didn't think this would help, my advanced bladder infection, but it is. I'm on my third day, so far so good.

WARNING!
UPDATE. OK guys, I ended having to go to the hospital with a mild kidney infection, and getting Cipro- antibiotics. Now, I'm not saying apple cider vinegar does not work, I believe it does. It helped me with the pain, and staved it off for awhile, but my infection I think, had gone on too long, and was too much, and too advanced for the vinegar cure. Vinegar does work, (and I'm all about for curing yourself independently), for milder cases, but, if you really think you may be having a serious problem, like (Fever, chills), go to the emergency room, and get a taken care of.

I sat in an ankle deep bathtub of water and ACV while simultaniously taking a straight shot of ACV. It has been only 1 hour and while I'm still not 100%, there is significant improvement which I'm sure will continue as long as I keep the ACV coming. I was literally about to make the dreaded, guaranteed 2 hour wait to the Emergency room because my pain has been so unbareable all day long. I have sat on the toilet for hours because the sensation that I have to urinate was constant and it hurt so bad when urine actually did pass. I needed relief so I found this site online and got excited and hopeful. It really does work. I am sitting here typing this and not doubled over in pain in the restroom like I have been the rest of the day. I hope this is helpful for anyone else going through this infection. God bless! ! !

WORKED TEMPORARILY
I took ACV for a UTI within an hour of realizing I had one. The ACV helped with the symptoms (constant feeling of having to pee, major discomfort, pain) within hours, thank goodness. Kept the ACV up for 3 days. But ended up with a kidney infection and doubled over in pain. Got into the doctor ASAP, and am now on antibiotics. I will use ACV again for symptoms, but will get to the doctor as soon as possible next time to prevent spreading.
