I experience a lot of pain in one of my hips...I have a femoroacetabular impingement, and associated bursitis and arthritis. It was becoming a major problem, and I was finding it painful to put any weight on the hip. I'm in my mid 30's. I've started swimming again and even though initially it made it worse, the effect after just a few weeks of regular freestyle has made all the difference. no pain, increased movement and range in the hip and most importantly, stronger gluteal muscles to support the area, as that's my best hope (surgery is not an option). Everyone, get moving!

Eliminating Tea

Tea can cause arthritis!

Why are the government of India and the state governments doing nothing to ruthlessly curb the rampant adulteration and massive contamination of common items of food like tea, milk, cooking oils, spices, etc? Adulteration and contamination of such common foods can cause coughs, colds, asthma, arthritis, cancer and many other diseases in millions of people.

How many persons will believe that I suffered from arthritis, which often caused pain in my knees, over a period of about 3 years, mainly because I was drinking tea? The tea must be containing harmful chemicals, which are used for giving flavor and color to the damned tea leaves during the time they are processed!

I was able to cure myself of arthritis only after I completely stopped drinking tea. I had tried many types of dietary treatments to control the symptoms of arthritis, but I was unable to cure myself of arthritis, as long as I did not completely stop drinking the darn tea!!

Even though I am 73 years old, I have again started riding my bicycle for about 40 minutes almost every day. People who know me are surprised to see me cycling again after a long time. They had often seen me walking slowly and uncomfortably on the streets of pune in the last 3 years. The discomfort due to the arthritis in my knees was obvious to those who had seen me walking awkwardly during that period.

Thanks for posting so many helpful suggestions, lots of different ideas for folk in pain and discomfort with arthritis. My husband's thumbs are very sore at times so I'm going to try the ACV/ginger/honey and include the Blackstrap molasses in his diet. Hope you continue to feel better.

Arthritis: . I started using manchurian mushroom tea (aka kombucha tea). . (real homemade), my sister turned me on to over 20 yrs. Ago. Works very well for shoulder arthritis. It worked very good, but as I'm older I need a larger dose, approximately 11 ounces. To start with u only need 4 ounces. It's not working as good on me anymore. I'm 64. Cold weather doesn't help. I'm in Colorado.

Dr. Rex Newnham was the person who pioneered the use of Borax/boron to treat different types of arthritis and one thing he figured out over time is that the worse your arthritis is and the older you are, the longer it will take borax/boron to work. He said that it can take up to 4 months to achieve maximum benefit.

Your one month trial may be inadequate to determine whether borax is effective for you or not. Even prescription drugs can take that long or longer to see maximum.

The borax cure didn't do me any good at all. My joints are still as stiff as they always were. I followed the recommended Earth Clinic cure, but didn't help. I drank four gallons over about a month's time, and nothing. So disappointed.

Elinor, regarding your experience with MSM, it is quite possible your pain was/is due to going off the prescription drugs. I'm assuming they were narcotics ...and people do become 'hooked' on these 'pain pills'.

Elinor, you are very inspiring!

Maybe you can try taking a LOT less at a time.

Elinor, I also had some issues with both. The msm I got off wheat gluten and then no problem. The turmeric it was the other ingredients. The most troubling ingredient [I was sick for nearly 2 months] it contained titanium dioxide. I have found many added ingredients to be troublesome. From what I have been reading the titanium dioxide is used in nano form, which means it penetrates more than it should and reactions are severe for some. Janet

Re: Turmeric and Arthritis/Joint Pain

I am 84 years old. Am I the only one that goes into a detox mode with turmeric? I had an experience with msm doing the same thing to me. Msm was like magic where the pain is concerned. no longer needed to take prescription pain pills. I was really a happy camper. Could literally break into a sprint while it was working so well. Then started to feel like I had the flu. layed in bed trying not to even blink my eyes.Years ago I took pycnoginol and was warned that it could cause detox like symptoms so I was ready for it. Not terrible...got over it quickly.. But the msm was awful .

Started on the turmeric instead. Now here I go again - pain in the joints worse... everything hurts.. so I stopped this one too...Is it just my age that makes me so vulnerable? I never read anything about detox being a side effect, or how to handle it if it happened... But I went to the computer and typed in.... turmeric and detoxing.... and there it was... lots of info on it.... I hate the real pain pills... The government is eventually going to stop them all anyway... I would much rather go the natural way..If anyone has a solution on how to avoid the detox or how to control it to some degree? I would love to know it.. I am still raising kids and need to keep the physical side of me together. Any knowledge or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks all,

Elinor, granma in Texas.

Magnesium
Posted by KT (Usa) on 09/07/2015

Well here it is Monday evening. I've been busy all day moving things out of the way and doing laundry so I can go to Lowe's tomorrow to get another washer and dryer. Last day for the Labor Day sale and can use a charge interest free if paid in 18 or 24 months.

I am not in any pain. My hand is not even stiff. I lifted, shoved and worked pretty hard vacuuming and moving things by myself (I have no one to help me). I would have never believed it if I hadn't experienced it. Just those 1/4 tsp. doses of mag powder last night and this morning was all I had to take to resume a pain-free hand.

Magnesium
Posted by KT (Usa) on 09/07/2015

Last night after I typed my post, the pain in my hand subsided but I felt a little pain/stiffness when I brushed my teeth. I am happy to report that this morning there was less pain/stiffness.

I prepared my first cup of coffee with milk and drank some (about 4 AM). I then dissolved 1/4 tsp. Magnesium Oxide powder in about 5 oz. (juice glass) of warm water and drank that. It still did not dissolve totally so I wiped my finger inside the glass to get the residue. It makes sense to me about the magnesium binding with protein to be absorbed and it worked well for my joint pain from injuries. I am impressed that it seems to be working now, for my hand. I guess age-related degeneration pain is different.

Any information I have shared on nutrition has been taken from a Nutrition Almanac, copyright 2007. I have recently read updated information that I feel is important to inform EC members with regard to magnesium. In the NA and on the bottles of Magnesium Oxide, the instructions are that it is to be taken with meals because it needs to bind with protein before it will be absorbed.

A 2014 report by a practitioner of natural therapies suggests that it not be taken with meals, but an hour before or after.

Even though I eliminated my joint pain (i.e., neck, spine, elbow, knees, and one toe) for decades after I had been taking it right after a protein meal, I recently (in the last few days) started to feel some arthritis type of pain in my right hand. I thought maybe I better read the article. I don't remember when I got it...I had intended to read it...I just kept moving it aside, to do later when I had the time. Now is the time.

The article recommends mixing the powder in 1/2 glass of water, which I used to do, but because it hardened and seemed to "coat" the glass, I wondered if it could be doing that in my veins. I started mixing it in about 4-6 oz. of OJ, slightly warmed (30-45 sec. in microwave) and it seemed to dissolve better.

If anyone is interested in the article, here is the link: http://www.vdk.com.au/ select "Colon Cleanse" then "Read More". Scroll down past "Magnesium Oxide", then PASS "Learn more about Magnesium Oxide" and select Magnesium Oxide Information". It should take you right to the article.

I just tried my first dose with water again (I ate about four hours ago so I don't know if it will do any good), I just don't like the way it mixes with water. I will let you know if my hand improves...or even if it doesn't.

I'll have to confess that I had also stopped taking the mag powder everyday and alternated using the tabs instead because it was easier and I'm running low on my powder.

The mag powder is 400 mg. per 1/4 tsp. and the tabs are 250 mg. per tab. Gee, that's pretty obvious. Why didn't I think to look at that before? Maybe this will help someone in pain.

I've learned so much over the last two decades. I had switched to the powder because I had reactions to the binders and fillers in tabs (hidden MSG) Maybe that's why, although "NatureMade" was supposed to be tolerated well by people sensitive to MSG.

It's taken me over a couple hours to type this and I'll have to say the pain in my hand is not as bad as it was earlier. Thank you for allowing me to "process information" as I dealt with the pain.

New things are being discovered all the time...KT

Chicken Cartilage
Posted by Dee (Tulsa, Ok) on 07/04/2015

Knox Gelatin is NOT chicken cartilage. Knox Gelatin is produced from pork. It will work to some extent (any gelatin is better than none), but there are better products out there. Real chicken cartilage gelatin is supposed to be the best because, as far as I know, it's the only was that has been used in scientific studies, so if you can afford it, by all means use that. However, there are plenty of reports from people who use pure beef gelatin with very good results. Also, pure beef gelatin is a lot cheaper.

Iodine

Got twisted bulging finger joints ...why yes how fun it that ? I was reading up on hair loss sites with Ted about how using Iodine causes so much die off symptoms and I tend to err on the side of caution because I hate pain.

I put a bandaid with one drop of iodine on it on a bad finger joint and went to bed and it was stained for two days golden brown, the color of the iodine .

Then I used a small sample plastic spoon 2-3 inch long including the handle and put one drop iodine on it and held to the joint until is got sucked into the joint .A few minutes time went by while I held the spoon with the drop to the joint . The joints seem to be heading back into the healthy direction . It takes hours for the iodine to dissolve into the joint and return to skin color again. Hope this helps someone .

MSM

Editor's Choice

Hi anyone with hip arthritis, I started using MSM 3yrs ago it helped with the pain but then I read that to get a significant relief if you take a higher dose, you need to take more than the stated dose on the package.

I was taking tabs 2gms a day. Now, very gradually, I take 9gms. Hey what a difference, wonderful, but I have rose hip tab as well,

I take 4 MSM with breakfast, 4 for lunch and 2 early pm with a snack.

My arthritis was caused by a very bad fall from a horse straight onto the back of my hips when I crunched into the road 18 years ago. I would hate to be without MSM. But go easy at first, just a low dose, also I take glusamine. I don't have any side effects at all and would consider taking more dosage if needed.

Borax vs. Boron
Posted by Bill (San Fernando, Philippines) on 03/23/2015

Hi Linden...It defeats me why people even bother to buy the boron supplements from the health shops because dosages of 3 mgs to 6 mgs are way to small and it's expensive. You are better to just buy the borax off the internet -- even technical or lab grade borax is dirt cheap and you will get more for your money. Taking 1/4 tspn borax in a liter of water per day means that you are taking 1000 mgs of borax. But if you work out the actual content of boron in the 1000 mgs of borax -- it only comes to about 115 mgs of boron. Similarly women should take 1/8 tspn (or 500 mgs) borax in a liter of water. That works out to a daily dose of only 57 mgs boron per day.

I've been supplementing borax regularly for about 9 years. I now usually just add a pinch of borax(same as a pinch of salt) to my coffee or tea twice a day. I do this because the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for borax has about the same toxicity level as common table salt. More info on borax for you here.

Best Regards,

Bill

Borax vs. Boron
Posted by Rebel (Somewhere Usa) on 03/22/2015

I know that there is so much info on this site it can take months of reading and research to find your answer, so I will do the best I can remember.

Seems this was asked to Ted on here and his response was, that the Boron Pills seem to be full of Fillers and not as easy absorbed by the body. Unlike the Borax Twenty Mule Team with is all natural and no fillers making it more easy for the body to absorb. This is what I remember to the best of my knowledge.

Borax vs. Boron
Posted by Linden (England) on 03/22/2015

Hi there, Is there any reason to take Borax powder rather than boron supplements, other than the price? (The Borax powder is loads cheaper, obviously.)

I have arthritis. Boron supplements seem to come in no higher dose than 3mg capsules. I'm thinking of taking 4 x 3mg capsules daily (I have read that 10mg plus daily is recommended for curative purposes, then drop down to 3 - 6mg daily for maintenance). Will this give as good results as taking the diluted Borax powder at the recommended dosage? (I intend to take magnesium citrate at the same time - how much is recommended?)

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Felista, I have arthritis in my knees and they are always popping when I walk upstairs and bend my knees to sit down. I'm trying to cut out meat as I don't think we are supposed to eat meat? I have had raw veg & fruit, replacing meat with avocados for the last 3 days and my knees have stopped popping already. It's incredible :)

Oregano Oil
Posted by Janis (Boston, Mass) on 01/28/2015

I believe I have the onset of arthritis in my hands, however that is not how I stumbled on to this remedy. One evening I woke up with a terrible throbbing pain in one hip. It would not stop with Ibuprophen, ACV or Tiger Balm. I've been using essential oils a lot in the past year and I also have strong faith so I said a prayer and sifted through my essential oils. I landed on oregano oil, I know it has strong medicinal value because it is a staple in thieves oil that I make. So I put 6 drops with a carrier oil (almond) and rubbed it directly into the area. Later I researched it and sure enough there were many articles on the effectiveness of oregano oil with fibromyalgia, arthritis, bursitis, joint pain. The pain went away rather quickly, 20 minutes. I put another dose before I went to bed and woke up with no pain. Funny thing the hand that I used to put on the ointment had no joint pain. The night before I had excess oil that I rubbed mostly into one hand. The other hand I did have pain in my joints. So this is definitely a keeper in my home remedy journal.
