i agree. high alkaline diet reduces asthma attacks. my son's attacks has not recurred in almost 5 years now since he changed his diet to 80% alkaline reacting food and 20% acid reacting food.

I was diagnosed with seasonal asthma, and have had the same brutal cough for about 5 years. It would last for about 3 months untreated. Advair worked but I hated the side effects. Read about mullein on line 4 days ago and my cough is 85% better. The first night I took the drops my cough almost went away and I slept great for the first time in weeks. This miracle plant worked for me. I have been taking the drops 4 times a day and drinking the tea twice a day. In fact... Gonna go make a cup now :)

Honey Steam, Lemons

I have grown up with severe asthma and while in the hospital for a collapsed lung, I decided to read up on the long term effects of using Advair. After my reading, I decided to wean myself from this prescription and focus on exercise and diet changes, which within a month I didn't use my Advair nor Albuterol. Until I had a reaction to my girlfriends dog last Christmas. I just couldn't breath so I rushed back to my Dr and the albuterol....and after a month, I backed away completely. Until tonight when I went to my now fiance's parents house....with the same dog. I am going add Apple Cider Vinegar to my diet, but since I didn't have any at home, I pulled out the honey. Added several teaspoons to a 1/4 cup of water and heated it up in the microwave for a nice Honey Steamer. It put me at ease for about 30 minutes. I was comfortable enough to try another suggestion from this site...so I just cut up a large Florida lemon and ate it, adding a little bit of the juice to my honey water...hmmm I am now breathing again, I think I will finally go to bed (6am)I think I might eat another lemon for breakfast.

Coconut Oil

My 9 yr. daughter has been on every asthma medication known to man. She was diagnosed before she was two and has been on numerous antibiotics, steroids taken orally and inhaled and of course albuterol. These medications just seem to help the symptoms but nothing ever made her truly better. I found your site and decided to take matters in to my own hands. I started giving her 2 tbsp of coconut oil per day and eventually was able to wein her off all her medications. The coconut oil is amazing!!! I wish I would have known about this years ago. I started the coconut oil about 6 months ago and in those 6 months she has had only 5 minor attacks.

H2O2 Inhalation Therapy

An asthmatic condition can be a number of causes, which is why no single remedy will work for each individual cases. Much of the time I spent is finding the cause, which is rather lacking in many emails.

For example, I was an asthmatic myself and was greatly helped with just vitamin A, and baking soda. My body at the time was acidosis and lacking in vitamin A and vitamin A helped increase the mucus reducing the resistance. Hence, I later found vitamin E to be helpful.

As to a high fever issue, HP shines well especially with fever, viruses, pneumonia and bacteria. It kills it.

Asthmatic is not a condition of pathogens in many cases, it is a reaction to a foreign toxins, in which case detoxification is a more useful way to reduce "reactions". In my books asthmatics and allergies has the same issue. In which case chlorella/spirulina, adding 5 drops of 3% H2O2, in a glass of water, and the use of baking soda such as 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 glass of water, or perhaps the use of 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.

Natural remedies and natural therapies are inseparable when we treat the cause, not the methods to cure a given condition. The cause is the foundation to proper use of natural therapies. Hence, asthma is often a toxins initiated by vaccinations, aspartame, toxic heavy metals, thinners, for example, being the most common of all toxins.

H2O2 Inhalation Therapy

I don't want to be the giver of false hope on any one remedy. I now realize that every child or person is different and therefore may respond accordingly depending on each set of circumstances they are given. To explain this further, my asthmatic as described in my earlier post is now back on steroids and albuterol b/c a cold that we all had exasperated her asthma and she was no longer responding to the HP inhalation therapy that I earlier treated her with. On the other hand, my baby was again coming down with something and had high fever for over a day. I put her back on HP inhalation and she cleared up right away! It's strange that these outcomes can't be more consistent but I suppose there's just so much more to learn. Still Seeking, kr

Apple Cider Vinegar, H2O2 Inhalation

After years of adult onset asthma, I feel "a lot" better since taking a tsp. of straight cider vinegar at night before bed. I hardly ever wake up wheezing anymore. Also, I have tried peroxide inhalation (50/50 mix of 3% peroxide with water in a spray bottle 2x a day.) Stings like heck at first, but I can breathe through my nose again. I also take 1500 mg, or more, of vitaman c per day. I feel great again!

Nose Breathing
Posted by Victoria Shepard (Santa Barbara, CA) on 09/29/2007

Nose breathing reduced my asthma-like symptoms considerably. About 8 years ago I was diagnosed with allergy related asthma. I ignored the symptoms for about 6 years as they were mild. They worsened, and I had to use an inhaler every day to control the coughing. This year, I noticed that when I laughed, sang, yelled or became stressed, talked too much (I am a teacher), I would cough. I knew my doctor would just give me more asthma drugs, so I began to research alternative treatments on the internet. I came up with the Buyteko program which requires an hour a day of breathing exercises and changing to nose breathing from mouth breathing. As I do not have an hour a day to practice specialized breathing exercises, I utilized what I could: In June of this year (2007), I became a nose breather. It was tricky at first. I had to learn to shorten my sentences and inhale only through my nose. I naturally exhale through my mouth slowly as I speak. This is okay. No deep breathes in or out through the mouth. No deep breathes in through the nose either. To prevent mouth breathing at night, in accordance with the Buyteko program, I tape my mouth with cheap masking tape. It took 3 months, but I have no asthma-like symptoms. I can laugh, shout, get excited or stresed and sing.

It has been over a months since I have used an inhaler.

Asthma and Vocal Cord Dysfunction

Last year, I found a lot of very valuable information on your site, and as a result took several steps to improve my health. I had asthma as a child, and it still occurs occasionally when triggered by outdoor allergies. Last year I had major asthma problems all year, which was uncharacteristic for me. Allergy/asthma medications did not help - in fact I got progressively worse. After being diagnosed with reflux (which I now believe was caused by these medications), I tried reflux medicines, and again, continued to get worse. After viewing your site, I managed to get off of all the asthma and reflux medications, and have used ACV with good results. However, this year, I began experiencing asthma again, and have since learned about Vocal Cord Dysfunction (also called Paradoxical Vocal Cord Movement). I think your readers would benefit from considering this as a possible cause of their breathing difficulties. I've been told that it is actually rather common, and while there are specialists who know about it, it is not yet well known by the medical profession.

I'm having a mild asthma attack at work and looked up remedies and tried the black coffee, and it's working. It's a good trick to know since you can grab coffee just about anywhere.

Oil Pulling

About two weeks ago I was taking my inhaler about twice a day (two puffs total since I don't like using the inhaler in the first place). Then I started Oil-Pulling. You can draw your own conclusions. But all I can say is that the very next day I stopped having to use my inhaler. I didn't experience an immediate throwing-up of mucus. But what I did experience is a gradual coughing-up of mucus all throughout the day. Another thing that I've experienced at least twice is what happens if my chest becomes tight. Usually when my chest tightens it'll stay that way and gradually get worse until I take my inhaler.

What I'm seeing is that when my chest tightens , I'll go through maybe a three hour period where I'll slowly begin to cough-up mucus until my chest is clear again. I have NEVER experienced my chest clearing-up all by itself after it has tightened. I've ALWAYS had to take medicine in order to get relief. During that time, my nose was stuffed a lot of the time. Since I've been OP-ing, it hasn't been. I can only conclude that it must due to the Oil-Pulling.

Coughs, Acid Reflux and Asthma

Same deal here! My son was diagnosed at 3 with asthma...almost never wheezed, just nagging cough. He had reflux as a newborn that eventually went "silent" until he started having trouble with esophageal strictures at age 11. Fundoplication at 15, persistent esophageal problem, but no reflux. At 16 he began a 6 food elimination diet and 18 months later an allergy to milk was uncovered. No asthma ATTACKS since the fundo-, no asthma at all since elimination of the dairy!

Reflux is no joke!

Buteyko Breathing Method

Just focusing on breathing through my nose has helped my asthma soooo much. I had no idea I took so much air through my mouth until I tried to stop doing it! It's particularly difficult when eating, talking, laughing, coughing, exercising, etc. , but I would encourage anyone with asthma due to airbourne allergies to give it a try. I haven't had to take my rescue inhaler since I started it, and I feel so much better and have much more energy.

i infrequently get asthma attacks usually cold weather or allergens set it off- sometimes stress or pet hair. I forgot my inhaler and i got a very scary attack on a warm day in april that was full of pollen. I was in a van travelling to work and couldn't catch my breath for quite awhile- when i arrived i had two cups of black coffee (i usually put milk or soy milk in my coffee) and i think it helped. However in the future i will try mullein tea or another type of herbal remedyas i dislike relying on the albuterol.

Vitamin B12

For the past 2 years I have been going to an allergist and a pulmonary specialist. Neither has been able to cure my asthma which was getting progressively worse. All either doctor would do was continue to prescribe medication and keep upping the dosage. I then spoke to a holistic nutrtitionist and she told me to stop eating dairy and to take vitamin B12, Magnesium and a liver cleansing supplement. Within 2 weeks my symptoms began to subside and stopped my prescribed medications. I now feel better than I have in the past 2 years. I am still not 100% but I feel myself getting everyday. I can't say this will work for everyone but for some who prescribed medicine doesn't work I think it is worth a try. It worked for me.

I started developing asthma about a year and half ago... I couldn't even walk a block without wheezing. On the advice of my mother, I stopped eating all wheat products and have had no trouble breathing ever since.

Lemon

This was told to me by a Medicine Man from the Hopi tribe, Take a lemon and slice it into quarters, inhale the smell of the lemon a couple of times, then if you can stand it eat some of the lemon, rind and all, (it's not bad). Then drink a glass of water. Something in lemons and the rind greatly reduces symptoms of asthma.

Green Tea

i drink green tea for my asthma. i found this out by accident. a friend of mine gave me some spaghetti sauce and i had a reaction to it. my throat started to close up pn me and i was already having trouble breathing from my asthma and i didnt have my inhaler prescription filled. well i had some green tea made up that i was trying for the first time because everyone was saying green tea is good for you so i thought i'd try it. well i drank the tea and went into the other room to sit and try to breath and relax. i was in there a little while when i realized i was breathing well better than i had before i ate the spaghetti sauce so i was a science major at the time in college so i thought i'll just experiment and see if this is real so i went back out and ate some more spaghetti sauce. immediately my throat started to close up on me i drank some more tea and in a very short time i could breathe and my throat no longer closed up on me. ive been drinking the green tea for my asthma ever since. it works faster than provental for me and i very rarely ever use an inhaler. my doctor asked me what i was using to treat my asthma as i hadn't gotten prevental in a year and i told him green tea. you can imagine the reaction i got! LOL. well he said maybe all the water youve been drinking cut it for you. lol. i drink it every day for my asthma, especially if i'm having a hard time breathing. it won't cure your asthma but it will help.
